'''Julie Magilligan'''

->''"The power of friendship cures light wounds!"''

Julie is the protagonist of the story. The story begins with Julie working as a waitress for a bar in Huckleton called "The Wayside". Then one night, she gets a prophetic dream from a powerful shrouded figure she affectionately calls "The Palm Tree Ghost". The figure explains to her that she will save the world by getting the pendant and collecting the broken magicant pieces. How she will save the world with them will probably have to do with battling the Souballo Empire and using the Magicant's power to fix other problems.

* BrainyBrunette: Though sunnier than normal brainy brunettes. Revealed to be subverted when the Palm Tree Ghost suggests to Julie to [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0134.html go back to being a blonde]].
* BigBrotherWorship: Julie and Alfred are shown to have a great relationship.
* CharacterDevelopment: As the story progresses, Julie becomes a bit less uptight and less foolishly idealistic.
* CheerfulChild: Just [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0248.html look at Julie]] while she's getting a piggyback from her brother.
* TheChosenOne: Played with. Julie is the third person the [[TricksterGod Palm Tree Ghost]] sent on this mission.
* CoolBigSis: As subverted as you can get with Angelika.
* ExpoSpeak: Almost compulsively in the beginning. Even in universe those around her are annoyed with it.
* FanservicePack: Inverted. As shown with the picture, she wore some kind of chain shirt leotard. Her updated character design doesn't show off her legs anymore.
* HappilyMarried: To Lenny, the group's fighter.
* TheHeart: Usually is the kindest and most altruistic member of the group. This also makes her TheHero.
* HiddenEyes: Played straight when [[spoiler: Pauline dies]]. Julie [[HeroicBSOD did not take it well.]] It also happens when [[spoiler: she loses, or thinks she loses, other members of the party]] and for some reason, when she's affected by a ''confusion'' spell.
* FiveStagesOfGrief: When [[spoiler: Pauline dies.]]
* TheLeader: The others don't want the "responsibility".
* LoveFreak: Throughout book 1. She seems to be growing out of this during book two.
* MagicMusic: She is a bard, after all.
* TheMedic: Up until Jordie joined, she was the only member of the group with healing magic.
* MissingMom: As Angelika explained, their mother died when Angelika was a baby and when Julie was a child.
* NeutralGood[[invoked]]: Though the others think she's a bit [[LawfulGood too uptight]] to be simply neutral good.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Thanks to Julie, Umbria/Zaedalkaah has been freed.
* ThePollyanna: Julie's happy-go-lucky most of the time, but she has some emotional baggage.
* QuirkyBard: Her character class is Bard. Averted in that she is the most sensible of the group, mostly.
* ReluctantWarrior: She doesn't like fighting nearly as much as the others, and hates killing humanoid creatures.
* SiblingYinYang: Julie is the sober, responsible half.
* SickeninglySweethearts: Invoked and played for laughs during a date she had with Lenny in Autumnson.
* StandardizedLeader: Averted. She has changed and developed as much as the rest of her team during the 350+ pages of comic.
* TalkingInYourDreams: She gets advice about the quest that way
* TeamMom: The comic is invoking this as it progresses, especially when she's dealing with Angelika.
* WideEyedIdealist: Especially in book 1.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Angelika Magilligan]]
[[quoteright:170:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Angelika_2404.jpg]]
'''Angelika Magilligan'''

->''"I just USE the spells. I don't know anything about them!"''

Angelika is Julie's fifteen-year-old sister. She bumps into Julie right after Julie quits her job at the bar and decides to join up with the quest. Angelika doesn't seem to care too much about Julie's mission and is only in it for the gold and to help keep her big sister safe. Angelika is very different from her sister, in both personality and the skills she uses.

* BlackMage: To complement Julie's friendlier type of magic.
* BlackMagicianGirl: Has the personality and powerful offensive magic.
* BookDumb: It's revealed Angelika doesn't know much of anything of the spells she uses.
* BrattyTeenageDaughter: The comic isn't a DomCom but all the bratty self-centered traits are there. She also has nothing but contempt for her father, who [[spoiler: [[MaternalDeathBlameTheChild blamed]] her for her mother's death.]]
* CharacterDevelopment: She's getting a bit less self-centered and rude as the story progresses. She's also warming up to Emily, though this may be due to [[FireForgedFriends coming through for her in combat]] and bonding over mutual disdain for Rocky.
* ChaoticNeutral: [[spoiler: ultimately confirmed when we see her in the afterlife]] [[invoked]]
* CuteWitch
* DeadpanSnarker: Duels with Rocky for this title.
* DoNotCallMePaul: If you call her Angie, she'll cut your hair off and force-feed it to you.
* EpicFlail: Angelika briefly used a magic morningstar she won in a combat, then switched back to a magic spear. In the Magicant Temple she loses that spear, and is now using another morningstar she found in a chest.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: Averted as Angelika isn't evil and doesn't become evil with the costume switch, but Norveg lampshades this trope.
* FanservicePack: Zigzagged. Angelika's first outfit showed a lot of skin, but her second one was more conservative and dark, the third one has her in a skimpy rat costume that looks a lot like [[Manga/SoulEater Mizune's teen form.]]
* GirlishPigtails: And she holds them in place with ''tiny skulls.'' She loses them when she gets her costume change.
* HatesBeingTouched: Jordie [[TheGlomp hugs her]] and she states this to him.
* IceQueen: Uses snarkiness and humor to keep others at a distance.
* InformedAttractiveness: Angelika is supposed to be very, very attractive but this drawing style [[GenericCuteness doesn't really show it.]]
* IrrationalHatred: For Emily when Angelika first met her, and much later when Emily joins the team. It may be due to Emily being a [[UnequalRites wizard]], or it may be due to Rocky [[GreenEyedMonster really liking Emily.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: One of the reasons she annoys those around her.
* {{Jerkass}}: She's a bit of a pain in the butt, especially in Book 1.
* MissingMom: Angelika never knew her mother as she died when Angelika was a baby.
* NoodleIncident: It worries Norveg that she won't tell him what happened to her last familiar, though she might have been trolling him.
* NotThatKindOfMage: She's a sorcerer, not a wizard.
* PaintItBlack: Subverted and spoofed. When she put on a Cloak of Charisma she gets a DarkerAndEdgier costume like this.
* ShortTank: Very much so.
* SiblingYinYang: The wild, irresponsible half.
* SkewedPriorities: She doesn't show much anger toward Coumadin and his wraiths for nearly killing her, until she finds out he looted her gear.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A.
* UnkemptBeauty: Angelika isn't too shaken up about not bathing if it can't be helped.
* YoungestChildWins: Played with. Angelika has powers of her own, but Julie is the big heroine of the story.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Norveg]]
[[quoteright:215:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Norveg-ola_6058.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:215:[-Outsmarted by a rodent.-] ]]
'''Norveg'''

->''"You'll never get very far if you behave like a simpleton and never listen to reason."''

Norveg is Angelika's new rat familiar. Despite numerous references, no-one will tell him what happened to her [[NoodleIncident previous familiar]]. The rat and the blonde girl met in huckleton and have decided to travel together since then.

* BalloonBelly: After binge eating.
* {{Familiar}}: For Angelika.
* HeadPet: Angelika hates this too, but Norveg usually does it to escape from things that want to eat him.
* LetsGetDangerous: [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0230.html When Angelika give him a touch spell.]] Norveg being all badass is also [[ThisIsForEmphasisBitch quite]] [[BadassAdorable cute.]]
* MeaningfulName: Norveg is probably a play on ''[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fancy_rat Rattus Norvegicus]]'' which is the latin name for a Fancy Rat.
* MoralityPet: Subverted initially as Angelika starts off mean to him. Played straight as the comic progresses.
* NonHumanSidekick: For Angelika. He is Angelika's familiar, and also a {{Foil}} for her.
* ParrotPetPosition: In the beginning, but for a while Angelika had a baby snuggly to keep him in. Other times he's [[HeadPet on her head.]]
* [[StraightMan Straight Rat]]: Often has this role, usually for Angelika.
* TalkingAnimal: In ''D&D'', the master and familiar have their own special language, but in the comic, Norveg can talk to any human.
* TeamPet: Seems to have this role.
* TrueNeutral[[invoked]]: Norveg's a lot less chaotic than [[ChaoticNeutral Angelika.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lenny Magilligan]]
[[quoteright:152:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Lenny_3340.jpg]]
'''Lenny Magilligan'''

->''"It figures some random bad guy knows more about this quest than we do..."''

Lenny is Julie's husband, and for those who don't know, he took ''her'' last name. He has been dragged into the adventure by his idealistic but silly wife, but he doesn't mind too much. He originally worked as a mercenary and met Julie when hired to guard her carriage. The two fell in love and eventually wed, though details on their story are still fuzzy. In the group, he is a fighter and is the group's meat shield and skullbasher now.

* AmbiguouslyBrown: Much darker-skinned humans than Lenny have been seen. [[ShoutOut Medlii the harpy]] commented on his caramel appearance when she fought the group. Lenny even got angry with her when he heard her singing a Confederate anthem.
* BadassNormal: He's got no magic powers, only kickass fighting skills.
* BigFancySword: His weapon of choice is a Bastard Sword.
* BoisterousBruiser: Subverted. He's actually quite calm and laid back, to the point of being a bit passive.
* CharacterDevelopment: Since [[spoiler:Pauline's death]], Lenny's been in the spotlight a bit more and has not only had more jokes to deliver, but has had some chance to grow a bit ballsier.
* ChekhovsSkill: More than once he's shown off his knowledge of rocks and minerals.
* CloserToEarth: Usually quite rational and sensible compared to his idealistic wife.
* GentleGiant: The strongest member of the group physically, but very laid back and gentle when not battling enemies.
* HappilyMarried: To Julie, the group's bard and leader.
* HenpeckedHusband: He frequently bows to Julie's wishes.
* MoralityAdjustment: He joins Julie's quest out of personal loyalty, but shifts from TrueNeutral to NeutralGood[[invoked]] as he comes to care about doing the right thing for people in general.
* NiceGuy: He's laid back, soft and unassuming.
* SatelliteCharacter: For Julie in Book 1. He develops more during Book 2.
* StraightMan: Has few jokes himself, but often sets up other group member's funny moments.
* TrueNeutral[[invoked]]: In book 1. Word of God stated he has become NeutralGood as of getting to [[CharacterLevel Level 7.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Rocky Jones]]
[[quoteright:181:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Rocky01_1915.jpg]]
'''Rocky Jones'''

->''"I'm gonna sell the swag. Don't worry, I won't steal ALL of it..."''

Rocky's a sullen, unpleasant red haired teenage boy. He is also the group's rogue, specializing in picking the locks, disarming the traps, and shanking dumbass opponents from behind. Originally he worked for his father's flower shop, but got into trouble with the law over his flower selling techniques. While on the road somewhere along the line he met Angelika. The two decided to work together conning people out of their money and shiny possessions. While on their travels they met Julie and Lenny right outside of The Wayside, and now the four work together. Rocky may or may not regret this decision.

* AntiHero: Rocky's not above using indecent tactics to achieve a decent goal.
* BackStab: Rocky's sneak attacks can be pretty damaging.
* BadassNormal: No magic powers, just underhanded (but effective) fighting skills.
* CombatPragmatist: Rocky is a rogue after all. He uses all sorts of "dirty tactics" when fighting.
* CrazyPrepared: Ever since getting his [[BagOfHolding magical handysack,]] he seems to like stuffing it full of inexpensive but useful items.
* CrushBlush: Emily produces this in him.
* DeadpanSnarker: Competes with Angelika for the title.
* FatalAttractor: Of the two women he shows interest in, [[spoiler: one turns into a tentacle monster and the other happens to be a vampire who promptly [[HypnoticEyes Dominates]] him]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's not as bad as Angelika, in fact Rocky's not such a bad guy once you get to know him.
* PerpetualFrowner: Rocky hardly ever smiles, and when he does it's usually a [[PsychoticSmirk smirk]] of some kind.
* RealMenWearPink: His father owns a flower store and Rocky did help with it, including making flower arrangements.
* RedHeadedStepchild: Though he isn't a stepchild, he does catch some flak over his red hair, especially from Angelika.
* SourSupporter: He's cranky yes, but he usually gives Julie and the group his best.
* TheSmartGuy: Since Lenny's moved into [[TheLancer Lancer territory]] in the group.
* TooSpicyForYogSothoth: Nearly. The party's faced undead that drain LifeEnergy several times, and they've all complained that his tastes like rotten lemons.
* TrueNeutral[[invoked]]: Also the least fettered of the group, though Emily's also pretty unfettered.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pauline Mikado]]
[[quoteright:153:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Pauline_8426.jpg]]
'''Pauline Mikado'''

->''"Less talky more stabby, guys!"''

Pauline is a barbarian, a melee fighter that relies on rage, passion and two-handed weapons to win battles. The group met her in a small town on their way from Huckleton to Everwood, after defeating her underlings in a bar fight. They also defeated her in combat the next day and she decided to join them on their quest. Pauline may be a girl but she's practically one of the guys and has some pretty nasty hygiene problems to boot.

* ActionGirl: More so than Angelika or Julie. Pauline actually likes to fight melee.
* ActionMom: Played with. She didn't become action-oriented until [[spoiler:after her husband and son were killed.]]
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Maybe an Asian-esque character. She's got black hair, brownish skin, and her last name is Mikado (which is Japanese, though Manjulias is not Earth).
* BackFromTheDead: Asks that she not be Raised, and [[spoiler: refuses to return when Julie tries to anyway. She later changes her mind and lets her old gang resurrect her.]]
* BadassNormal: No magic, just axe combat and raging.
* TheBigGirl: Type 4 or maybe type 1.
* BoisterousBruiser: Played fairly straight, contrasting Lenny.
* ChaoticGood[[invoked]]: Pauline hates lawful things, but is more ethical than [[ChaoticNeutral Angelika.]]
* CoveredInScars: They're her distinguishing feature.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: When Pauline was beaten by Julie and her group, Pauline joined the adventure.
* DiedHappilyEverAfter: [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0192.html Deduced.]] [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0200.html Then confirmed.]] [[spoiler:Then subverted, as she came back after all.]]
* GoOutWithASmile: Because she has a dead son and husband to meet again now that she too has passed on.
* IWasQuiteTheLooker: When Pauline talks about her past, it's revealed she used to "wear a dress and everything". [[spoiler:[[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0200.html And she opted for it again in the afterlife.]]]]
* KilledOffForReal: When she dies from the Minotaur she told Julie not to raise her. [[spoiler:Ultimately subverted, as she eventually let someone else raise her.]]
* TheLadette: Obviously. She's boisterous, often gets drunk in taverns and is pals with a group of warriors in the town Julie and friends found her in.
* LethalChef: Pauline's cooking is terrible, as you can see with the picture above.
* ThePigPen: She's pretty nasty in the hygiene department. She invoked it later in her life. She was originally a GirlyGirl before [[spoiler:her husband and son were killed.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: As the [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0142.html story of her past]] will tell.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Emily Wellis]]
[[quoteright:201:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/EmilyWellis_5012.jpg]]
'''Emily Wellis'''

->''"Fortunately I learned how to make magic arms and armor that DON'T scream obscenities at their wielders."''

Emily is a pleasant [[BitchInSheepsClothing (appearing)]] but reserved wizard who has joined the group when they were in Llanadario. Emily was a magic student from Everwood, but is now on the road to learn about magic and document [[IrrelevantSideQuest various different types of fungus.]]

* ArtificialHuman: [[spoiler:She is a clone of one of the Souballo Empire's victims. This was part of a project by Angelo to artificially mass produce an army of {{Super Soldier}}s, each bonded with a PuppeteerParasite. She chose to sneak out. Nevertheless, other Emily clones remain in the Angelo's cult.]]
* BitchInSheepsClothing: [[spoiler:Surprisingly [[FantasticRacism racist against Elves]],]] and can be downright sullen and snarky when she wants to be.
* BrainyBrunette: Played straight. As her [[AllThereInTheManual character sheet]] will tell, she has the highest INT score and she's helped the group with some decent combat tactics in some of the enemy encounter they've had.
* CuteWitch: She's pretty attractive and is seen cleaned up nicely during her and Rocky's date. Part of her low-ish charisma comes from being somewhat reserved.
* EarlybirdCameo: Introduced 200 pages earlier in the comic, [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0052.html way back]] when Julie's group was in Everwood.
* EvilAllAlong: [[spoiler:Seemingly. Though she turns out to have actually been a MeatPuppet]].
* FantasticRacism: Not to the same extent as the Souballo Empire, [[spoiler:but she doesn't think very highly of Elves, referring to them as tree-dwelling baboons. Which is due to the fact that she was created by one of their projects]].
* {{Foil}}: For Angelika, but Emily's shown not to want to participate in that.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Angelika hates her because she's jealous of her relationship with Rocky, Julie doesn't trust her because she caught Emily spying on her, and thanks to her low charisma, Emily never really bonds with Lennie or Jordie. The only member of the party to really like her is Rocky. As a result, [[spoiler:most of them get over her apparent betrayal and death pretty quickly]].
* HumanoidAbomination: [[spoiler:Specifically referred to as one after the parasite inside of her takes full control and reveals its own form.]]
* AnIcePerson: She states that she really likes ice spells while [[KillItWithIce freezing four Kobolds to death.]]
* ItemCrafting: Emily has the ability to enchant weapons and armor.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:She gets killed off by a PuppeteerParasite and the parasite gets killed by one of the magicant's guardians. Seeing little difference between her and the treacherous parasite, Julie's party doesn't bother making any effort to raise her.]]
* MeatPuppet: [[spoiler:Turns out she was infected and controlled by some manner of PuppeteerParasite loyal to one member of the BigBadDuumvirate. She gets killed when it takes full control]].
* NerdGlasses: She is a nerdy witch, and has glasses.
* NoodleIncident: She would not go into detail about why the school sent her on this strange fungus mission.
* TheQuietOne: She's had a few jokes, but she's even quieter than Lenny in this regard.
* RealDreamsAreWeirder: She contrasts hers to Jordie's TalkingInYourDreams.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: Invoked sometimes when attacking something with magic or when she's about to do something questionable.
* ShrinkingViolet: Subverted. The group's first impression was this, but Emily's reveals herself merely to be mild-mannered and somewhat aloof.
* SixthRanger: Technically the fifth, due to the [[spoiler:original fifth member being killed.]]
* SixthRangerTraitor: [[spoiler:Courtesy of a PuppeteerParasite.]]
* SquishyWizard: Emily is a wizard and has less constitution than Angelika.
* TheStoic: Emily isn't very emotional, and seems much [[TheUnfettered less fettered]] than other group members.
* TransformationOfThePossessed: [[spoiler:When the parasite inside of her takes full control and kills her, her body is warped into a HumanoidAbomination]].
* WizardingSchool: Emily was training at the Everwood Magical University.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Jordie Kent]]
[[quoteright:188:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Jordie_589.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:188:[-Loves giving hugs.-] ]]
'''Jordie Kent'''

->''"I'm supposed to go with you on your journey!"''

Jordie Kent is a Cleric who found Julie via divination magic. Apparently it is destiny that bound him to her, though Julie and the others seem a bit skeptical about it. Julie met him in Autumnson while she was at a temple gathering info on an Erinyes that attacked her. It was originally after Jordie, apparently.

* BecauseDestinySaysSo: His supposed reason for seeking Julie out and joining her.
* TheChosenOne: [[spoiler:He's the next "Paragon of Unity", a title which has not yet been elaborated on.]]
* CuddleBug: Seems to love hugging people; some react to it less happily than others.
* DistressedDude: [[spoiler: Jordie gets kidnapped by an Ice Devil and is briefly removed from the group.]]
* FantasticRacism: Dislikes and distrusts TheUndead, which is admittedly a fairly sound survival tactic.
* GenreBlindness: Justified as he has had no experience doing the adventuring thing. It's often lampshaded by the other group members, though.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: Jordie is a Cleric and wears said colors.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Made good on his threat of cramming Holy Smite [[http://danielscreations.com/ola/comics/ep0354.html down the throats of evildoers.]] Double as a TalkToTheFist.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: He's sweet, kind, doesn't like violence, and is the most innocent group member who has joined with Julie.
* HeartBeatdown: What his Holy Smite spell takes the form of.
* HolyHandGrenade: Jordie wields Holy Smite, an attack spell using the power of good.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: And it's gold as the sun.
* TheMedic: One of the main jobs of a cleric.
* NonActionGuy: He's good at divine magic, but he's terrible at actual fighting, [[TechnicalPacifist if you can even get him to]].
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: And Angelika calls him on it.
* ShelteredAristocrat: His gear was paid for by his parents, and from what he said it doesn't sound like they would approve of his being called to adventure.
* ShipTease: With Warren the fighter. [[spoiler:After being abducted by the Souballo Empire, then released and sent on an all expenses paid date by way of apology, they get a RelationshipUpgrade.]]
* TalkingInYourDreams: Mom tracks him down this way.
* TechnicalPacifist: Got his character levels doing non-combat Cleric things and has stated to be non-violent. This doesn't extend to the Undead or Evil Outsiders.
* WhiteMage: Has the look, personality and powers.
* WhiteMagic: Jordie uses magic that heals and protects, as well as destroy those with evil in their hearts.
