!! Alex Noah
!!! Voiced by: Creator/KikukoInoue (''JP'', ''The Silver Star''), Creator/AkiraIshida (''JP'', ''Silver Star Story'' and ''Harmony''), Ashley Parker Angel (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/YuriLowenthal (EN, ''Harmony'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarssalex_8855.jpg]]
-> The main protagonist of ''Lunar: The Silver Star''. An ambitious young boy from the village of Burg on Caldor Island, who dreams of becoming a hero just like his idol, Dragonmaster Dyne.
----
* AscendedFanboy: He is a fan of the late Dragonmaster Dyne and dreams of being a famous hero. His fanboy-ness is particularly pronounced in the novels, where he rattles off lists of Dyne's expoits.
* GenreBlindness: Walks around with an ObviouslyEvil BigBad and is none the wiser, even with said villain's very obvious tells that he is a villain.
* GodWasMyCopilot: Pulled ''twice''. His girlfriend is the Goddess Athena('s reincarnation) and his mascot companion becomes the new White Dragon.
* TheHero: Noble and pure of heart.
* HeroWorshipper: For his idol, Dragonmaster Dyne.
* JumpedAtTheCall: Because what else is a brave young aspiring adventurer going to do?
* MarriageToAGod: Technically, post-game.
* PlayingWithFire: In the Sega CD version, he has an affinity for flame magic before he comes upon Dragon spells.
* PsychicDreamsForEveryone: He dreams of Luna after she is kidnapped.
* SilentBob: He barely spoke in the first game (he only had ''two'' voiced lines, one of them right at the end, and about two or three dialogue boxes) and only spoke at important moments in the ''Silver Star Story'' remake. He's much more chatty in ''Harmony''.
* WhatBeautifulEyes: In-game, people tend to remark on his rare green eyes, usually foreshadowing his future as the next Dragonmaster, but some remark on its beauty based on its rarity. Those who knew Dyne note it as a significant point of similarity. One particular worker in Ramus' shop flirts with Alex by calling him "Green Eyes."

!! Luna Noah
!!! Voiced by: Creator/KikukoInoue (JP, ''The Silver Star''), Creator/KyokoHikami (JP, ''Siver Star Story'' and ''Harmony''), Rhonda Gibson (EN, ''Silver Star (Story)''), Creator/DanielleJudovits (EN, ''Harmony'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarssluna_8156.jpg]]
-> Alex's childhood friend, who has lived in Burg with him for as long as she can remember. She is well known for her extraordinary singing voice.
----
* AscendedExtra: In the Sega CD game, Luna leaves the party before the trip to Meribia, returns home, and doesn't have a role until she gets kidnapped and turned into evil Althena. In ''Silver Star Story'' and the other remakes, she stays in the party for longer but the outcome is much the same.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Happens to her in the middle of the game by the Magic Emperor.
* BrownNote: Two of her songs in the Sega CD version, Supersonic and [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Destruction]], are attack spells. Outside of gameplay, The remakes have her sing songs that brainwash the Four Dragons when she becomes Althena.
* ClingyJealousGirl: In the original version, she is prone to fits of jealousy. She seems highly possessive of Alex.
* GuestStarPartyMember: Luna doesn't stay with the party for long, but spends more time with Alex in the remakes.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: Her costume switch after being kidnapped and brainwashed by the Magic Emperor. ''Eternal Blue'' references it in haiku: "''Heavenly bodies / Eyes gaze upwards in rev'rence / Goddess in a thong''"
* IAmWho: Her true identity is that of [[spoiler:the goddess Althena.]]
* InformedAbility: Her singing, at least in the English version, is not nearly as good as the game would like us to believe.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDmncfwu9zs Thoughts Far Away]]. Normally sung by herself, though it's also played by Alex on the ocarina both in-game and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-fRNCXJ4f4 in the BGM]]. It's the song you're going to hear peppered throughout the game the most, besides the theme for the game itself. [[OlderThanTheyThink The song actually first appeared in the original Sega CD version of]] ''VideoGame/LunarEternalBlue''.
* MagicMusic: Her songs have magical effects.
%%* MysteriousWaif
* HatOfPower: She gets some awesome headgear when she awakens as the Goddess.
* PrettyInMink: The white fur trim on the hem of her skirt isn't quite this, given she grew up in a village where it's the norm instead of a luxury. What does fit this is the fancy silver fur cape she drapes over her shoulders on the back of the original Sega CD game case.
* ShyBlueHairedGirl: Averted. Luna can be coy with her feelings, but she's generally more grumpy and willful than shy.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: When in Goddess form. A stark contrast to her human form, which is never seen in anything but modest clothing, even in bromides.
* TeamMom: In the ''remakes'', constantly reminding the team to mind their manners and be on their best behavior.
* {{Tsundere}}: Very slight tendencies.
%%* VictoriousChildhoodFriend
* WhiteMage: Plenty of healing and status-affecting songs.

!! Nall
!!! Voiced by: Creator/ReiSakuma (JP), Jackie Powers (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/SpikeSpencer (EN, ''Harmony'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarssnall_784.jpg]]
-> A baby white dragon that hangs around Alex.
----
* BerserkButton: Calling him a cat.
%%* CaptainObvious
%%* CuteLittleFangs
* AngelUnaware: [[spoiler:Nall had no idea what species he was, much less a dragon.]]
* ExpositionFairy: Mostly in the original game, where he was someone to vocalize the goings-on in Alex's stead.
* IAmNotWeasel: See BerserkButton.
* ImageSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iuazd0gQwgY Les Miserables]]
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: As a child he resembles a flying cat.
* SnarkyNonHumanSidekick: Most conversations with [=NPCs=] end with Nall making an offhand joke about the situation.
%%* TeamPet
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Fish.

!! Ramus
!!! Voiced by: Creator/YasuhiroTakato (JP), Nancy Davis (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/BrycePapenbrook (''Harmony'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarssramus_3668.jpg]]
->Another of Alex's childhood friends, though he's not quite as big on adventure as he is with dreams of making money. This doesn't sit well with his father, who is the village elder and hates the fact that Ramus always has his head in the clouds and never goes out and actually ''does'' anything.
----
* AdamSmithHatesYourGuts: Played straight until the very end right before the final battle, when Ramus finally lets you take what you want from his store for free.
* BigFun: A portly lad who knows a thing or two about how to enjoy himself.
* CallToAdventure: He's the caller for Alex.
* CrutchCharacter: He's literally just there at the beginning to give your party another front-line fighter to help divert attention away from [[SquishyWizard Luna]]. Once you get to Meribia, his usefulness is utterly shattered, which the game underscores as he stays behind to run his new shop.
* GuestStarPartyMember: He hangs around the party until Alex has to venture to Vane. Since Ramus can't use magic, he decides to hang up his adventuring boots after the Dragon Diamond theft and open up a shop in Meribia.
* IdenticalGrandson: His descendant, who appears one thousand years later in ''Eternal Blue''. He's completely identical to Ramus the First, down to the name and clothes.
%%* LovableCoward
%%* MiserAdvisor
* {{Muggle|s}}: Ramus is the only playable character in the game who can't use magic, and he gives this as the reason why he stays behind in Meribia when Alex and friends travel to the magic city of Vane.
* WealthyEverAfter: Becomes one of the richest merchants in Meribia after gaining his store.

!! Nash Rumack
!!! Voiced by: Creator/DaisukeSakaguchi (JP), Lief Huckman (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/SamRiegel (EN, ''Harmony'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarssnash_1802.jpg]]
-> A student at the Vane magic academy. He believes himself to be one of the best, but his cocky attitude turns off his peers quite often. He is attracted to Mia, daughter of the guildmaster.
----
* AnimeHair: That silly oversized cowlick he sports.
* BlackMage: Nash specializes in offensive magic. Unlike Mia, his expertise is limited to lightning-based spells.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Problem with specializing in thunder magic.
* FaceHeelTurn: In the remakes his belief that Ghaleon is unstoppable drives him to pull one of these just before the group leaves for the Frontier. The rest of the group is less than pleased.
* FakeDefector: In ''The Silver Star'' only, this is the case. He is easily brought back to the fold when he returns to them and reveals that he was actually trying to spy on Xenobia. While escaping her, he stole the Dragon Helmet back from her for good measure.
* FragileSpeedster: Compared to Mia as a caster, he lacks her raw firepower but makes up for it by being the fastest character on the team (whereas Mia is one of the slowest) and is almost always the first character to act in battle.
* HeelFaceTurn: Does this after getting slapped by Mia and pounded into the ground by everyone else.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Hinted through the series, and [[AllThereInTheManual his bio in the Silver Star Harmony official site]] notes that "he's simply a person without any confidence in himself". And it ''shows''.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite his often very abrasive behavior, deep down he wants people to think well of him, and he regrets it when his actions cause other people harm. That regret is what makes him join Alex's fight against Ghaleon.
%%* TheLancer
* ImageSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlKMp3J5BeM Magical Weapon Nash]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mkq32f7VE_s Modern Boy]]
** During his brief switching of sides, he also gets [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udN_t01WnJE Magical Weapon Nash]].
* LoveMakesYouEvil: He says that he did his aforementioned FaceHeelTurn in order to protect Mia.
* TheMole: Late in the game, Xenobia turns Nash against the party. He claims to have done so [[LoveMakesYouEvil out of his love for Mia]].
* OptionalPartyMember: In the original game, when Ghaleon sends you to deal with the fake Dragonmaster, Nash doesn't ''have'' to come along, although there's really no benefit to leaving him behind.
* ShockAndAwe: Nash's talent lies in his command of thunder-based magic.
* SquishyWizard: He is not useful in melee combat, and is best situated near the back of party formations.
* StatusEffects: Some of his spells inflict paralysis.
* SmallNameBigEgo: He thinks highly of himself, and to a degree looks down on people that can't use magic. The fact he's not as good as he thinks he is even reflected in gameplay where, in both versions, he's widely regarded as the least useful of your major party members due his useless status effect spells and being the least reliable source of damage since he only uses thunder magic, so he's pretty useless against anything resistant to it.
* TeamPrimaDonna: He is eager to try to throw his weight around as an "elite member of the Magic Guild", though the rest of the party isn't impressed. As Ghaleon's apprentice, he really does hobnob with powerful people, but as Ghaleon's plot is revealed the game hints that Ghaleon picked him ''precisely because'' he is an easily manipulated schmuck.
* UselessUsefulSpell: Has a bunch of status effect spells. Too bad they're useless as you can kill the enemies faster with attacks.
* TheUnfought: He isn't fought as the Magic Masher in Lunar Legend. His boss role is taken over by Taben after exiting the dungeon.
* WelcomeBackTraitor: After Nash defects to the Vile Tribe, the party is willing let him back in, no questions asked, when he sees the error of his ways.

!! Mia Ausa
!!! Voiced by: Creator/YokoAsada (JP), Jackie Powers (EN, ''SSS''), [[Creator/HeatherHoganWatson Heather Hogan]] (EN, ''Harmony'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarssmia_8557.jpg]]
-> The shy daughter of Lemia Ausa. Nash has his eyes on her, but she doesn't tend to think of him as a love interest.
----
* AnIcePerson and PlayingWithFire: Yes, she is both.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Let's just say Mia can get scarier than Jessica if she’s angered enough.
* BlackMage: A better one than Nash, as she has a variety of useful fire and ice spells.
* BlowYouAway: Has the Tornado, Wind Blast, and Sand Spike spells in ''The Silver Star''.
* DishingOutDirt: Has the Landquake spell in ''The Silver Star''.
* GlassCannon: Her magic is powerful, but she is physically the weakest of the main characters.
* ImageSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDGTz725n38 Fairy Rain]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krvEhlFNtkw Fairy Rain]] in-game instrumental version.
* NiceGirl: Extremely polite and well-mannered, and she almost always has supportive things to say to her companions.
* NightmareFetishist: Let her mold the clay in Damon's Spire and learn she finds the game's monsters to be ''adorable''. Nash is left utterly dumbfounded.
* NonElemental: In ''The Silver Star'', she has a few spells whose typing might be difficult to determine, such as Spillter, Trouble Bubble and Byebye Air.
* TheOjou: Mia is treated like royalty in Vane, and she practically is - as Guildmistress Lemia's daughter, she is expected to become the leader the Magic Guild eventually. The Magic Guild students idolize her, but fear that she is too delicate to stand up against the Magic Emperor. She proves them all wrong.
* ShowerScene: [[http://lunar-net.com/merchandise/allthelunar/media/MiaBromide2.bmp One of her bromides.]]
* ShrinkingViolet: Her upbringing in the magic city of Vane was very sheltered, making her awkward around people she doesn't know.
* TheSmartGuy: Very knowledgeable on matters academic.
%%* SquishyWizard
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: With Jessica. Again, guess which one she is.
* TookALevelInBadass: Aside from the slap, she musters up enough power to destroy the shield surrounding the Grindery.

!! Jessica de Alkirk
!!! Voiced by: Creator/HarunaIkezawa (JP), Melissa Gulden (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/MichelleRuff (EN, ''Harmony'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarssjessica_6818.jpg]]
-> A priestess-in-training at the Shrine of Althena, but a bit more hot-headed than most. She and Kyle are in a SlapSlapKiss relationship of sorts.
----
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: With Kyle. She's fed up with his womanizing, insensitive behavior, but talk to the non-playable characters around the Nanza Barrier with her in the party. She still vows to protect him despite their many fights.
* BetaCouple: She and Kyle.
* CombatMedic: Don't let the White-Mage robes fool you--she packs a mean punch. She has higher melee damage, speed, and defense than the other spell casters in the party and up to four attacks, assuming you level her up to level 99.
* CuteLittleFangs: These are a sign of her half-beastperson heritage.
* EpicFlail: Often wields clubs and flails.
* FacialMarkings: In Lunar, the facial markings are a characteristic shared by female Beastmen.
* GenkiGirl: She is cheery and outgoing, but temperamental.
* HalfHumanHybrid: The other half being the series' DemiHuman race, the Beastmen.
* ImageSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHBJjsnlkfM Pretty Girl]]
* InTheHood: Averted. She's wearing a hood, but it's part of her [[WhiteMagic White Mage]] look.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--QzZIM4AjU Pretty Girl]]
* LethalChef: According to Kyle in Damon's Spire, Jessica once made cookies with laxatives due to mistaking them for chocolate chips.
%%* PimpedOutCape
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: With Mia. Guess which one she is.
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards Kyle.
* WolverineClaws: She can occasionally use them, and the Silver Claw is her best weapon in ''The Silver Star''.

!! Kyle
!!! Voiced by: Creator/TomokazuSeki (JP), John Haas (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/TravisWillingham (EN, ''Harmony'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarsskyle_1971.jpg]]
-> The leader of a gang of bandits that "protect" the Katarina-Marius border. Like his girlfriend Jessica, he's a bit of a hot-head.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: He has the darkest skin tone of the party.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: With Jessica. When you first meet him, he's in a drunken stupor because he upset Jessica and misses her after she walked out after a verbal fight. He's also the only person to break out of Royce's petrification after an illusion of the stone Mel tricks the whole party to snap Jessica out of her saddened state.
* TheBigGuy: Most HP and strongest physical attack in the game.
* BoisterousBruiser: Loud, boastful, and hits like a truck!
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: The first time you meet him, his own lackeys have locked him in the Drunk Tank; he's completely toasted and basically comes across as a big joke. The second time however... Well, okay, he lures in a bunch of monsters by wearing an ugly and unconvincing WholesomeCrossdresser disguise and pretty much hamming it up. THEN he drops the act and proceeds to mop the floor with them.
* TheDrunkenSailor: His girlfriend storms out after a shouting match; he goes on an epic bender. The party nearly drowns; he gets into a drinking contest (it has plot significance, though). Alex goes off on a solo quest; he's sloshed when everyone reconvenes. The end of the world is imminent; he intends to go out in a drunken haze (until Jess convinces him otherwise.)
* HandsomeLech: One of the main points of contention between him and Jessica. He's popular with women and has a bad habit of flirting with any good-looking women, most of the time right in front of Jessica.
* ImageSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM8tb_alshI Killy is No. 1!]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He'll grumble about the logically selfish option being better, but will always help out the rest of the gang with their morally softer options.
* LoveableRogue: The head of a group of bandits in the Nanza Barrier who offers free protection to women and children. [[DoubleStandard But he also charges double for men.]]
* MartialArtsHeadband: The only time we see him without it is when he's DisguisedInDrag.
* MightyGlacier: He's slower than Alex, but is physically stronger.
* MonsterProtectionRacket: He and his band of rogues leads one of these.
* SnotBubble: One appears in his introductory cutscene in the remakes.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Allies]]
!! The Goddess Althena
-> The primary deity of Lunar. After the Blue Star was laid to waste by a battle between Althena and Zophar, the goddess gathered what was left of humanity and moved them to the Silver Star, a dead world until it was brought to life by Althena's power. Since then, she has been watching over this new world, which was named Lunar, with the help of her four dragons and her champion, the Dragonmaster.
----
* FantasticNuke: Althena's power is what laid waste to the [[EarthThatWas Blue Star]].
* ImageSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlOmfxLknQQ Althena's Song - Distant Journey]]
%%* MagicMusic
%%* PhysicalGoddess
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Her eventual decision to stop her cycle of reincarnation (and, by extension, her immortality) is based on this.

!! Quark
!!!Voiced by: Creator/YusakuYara (JP), Hal Delahousse (EN, ''Silver Star (Story)''), Creator/{{David Lodge|AmericanActor}} (EN, ''Touch'')
-> The White Dragon of Althena, and the last surviving (and sane) member of the Dragon Tribe (until Ghaleon kills him).
----
* SparedByTheAdaptation: Ghaleon kills him in the Sega CD version. In every remake, he's captured along with the other three dragons.

!! Tempest
!!!Voiced by: Creator/YasunoriMasutani (JP), Chad Letts (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/RogerCraigSmith (''Harmony'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarsstempest_914.jpg]]
-> The chief of the Prairie Tribe. At first, he doesn't get along very well with Alex for having mercy on a liar. After Alex proves his skill as a warrior, however, he becomes an ally who is willing to offer his assistance whenever the party needs it.
----
%%* BraidsBeadsAndBuckskins
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Has to be beaten in order to convince him to trust Alex.
* GuestStarPartyMember: Tempest only joins Alex for one quest.
* HappilyMarried: To Fresca.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfOL9XscTCg Lone Wolf]]
* WeaponSpecialization: In the original game, he fought with a whip. In the newer versions, he uses a bow instead.

!! Fresca
!!!Voiced by: Creator/SakuraTange (JP), Melissa Gulden (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/KateHiggins (''Harmony'')
-> Tempest's lover, rarely seen apart from him. The two are already planning on starting a family: Tempest wants a dozen kids, but Fresca would prefer a modest eight or nine...
----
%%* BraidsBeadsAndBuckskins
* HappilyMarried: To Tempest.
%%* MartialArtsHeadband

!! Myght
!!!Voiced by: Creator/YusakuYara (JP), Dean Williams (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/ChristopherCoreySmith (EN, ''Harmony'')
-> A genius inventor who lives as a recluse atop a tower. Laike is one of his closest, or perhaps only, friends.
----
* DemiHuman: He's a Beastman, or at least he's got the ears of one.
%%* GadgeteerGenius
%%* GrumpyOldMan
* ThePigPen: In the English releases, Creator/WorkingDesigns wanted to explain his reclusive lifestyle. So, they gave him a bad case of body odor.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Four Heroes]]
->A four-person team of warriors who stood against the minions of the Vile Tribe to protect the goddess Althena long ago.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: In the PSP version: ''Silver Star Harmony'', you can play as them in the prologue.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVuWj-Gw9WA Four Heroes]]
* PrecursorHeroes: Celebrated heroes well before the game begins.

!! Dragonmaster Dyne
!!! Voiced by: Creator/AkioOtsuka (JP), Blake Dorsey (EN, ''SSS''), [[Creator/LexLang Joe J. Thomas]] (EN, ''Harmony'')
-> One of the original Dragonmasters and Alex's idol. Believed to have been killed. He is introduced to Alex as "Laike", a traveler whom Alex and company frequently meet during their journey. He is an extremely skilled swordsman, and saves Alex's bunch once or twice from a couple of sticky situations.
----
* BadassNormal: He doesn't have any magic or fancy weapons. This especially notable in the original, his equipment is substandard by the point in the game he joins, and it doesn't hold him back in the slightest.
* BroughtDownToBadass: He gave up his Dragonmaster powers, but retained his extraordinary swordsmanship.
* {{Determinator}}: Once fought Hell Mel for seven days straight until it finally ended in a draw and the two became best friends.
* EccentricMentor: He seems mercurial and almost incapable of taking anything seriously, but he does have good advice to offer.
* GuestStarPartyMember: A rare case of a late game example. He's maxed out, is really powerful and tough despite his equipment being garbage for that point in the game, and can make four moves/attacks in one turn. In the remakes he's just maxed out with no special tricks.
* PosthumousCharacter: Dyne is believed to be dead long before the game even began. Subverted as it's revealed that he faked his death and took up the identity of Laike.
* RecurringTraveler: As Laike
* RetiredBadass: Surprise! He's Dyne. That speaks for itself.
* SmallStepsHero: Surviving members of the Four Heroes tell stories about Dyne's dedication to doing what's right, no matter what...to the point that he took time out to ''save a drowning puppy'' while his band was on their way to save a town from invasion.

!! Master Mel de Alkirk (Hell Mel)
!!! Voiced by: YusakuYara (JP), Keith Lack (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/ChristopherCoreySmith (EN, ''Harmony'')
-> The mayor of the great city of Meribia, and probably one of the physically strongest people in the land. Father of Jessica de Alkirk.
----
%%* BoisterousBruiser
* DefeatEqualsFriendship: Or rather, "a seven-day duel with Dyne that ended in a stalemate equals friendship."
* DemiHuman: Probably the most beast-like example of Lunar's Beastmen.
* FangsAreEvil: More intimidating than evil, but they're certainly less cute than his daughter's.
%%* LargeHam
%%* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
* TakenForGranite: Becomes a victim of the Vile Tribe's magic. In ''SSSC'', his stone form becomes a boss battle (as "Plaster Mel").

!! Lemia Ausa
!!! Voiced by: Aya Hara (JP), Dixie Garrett (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/KateHiggins (EN, ''Harmony'')
-> The chief maiden of the Vane magic guild and mother of Mia Ausa.
----
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: The real Lemia was captured by Xenobia, brainwashed and spirited away. Then Xenobia took on her likeness in a bid to ake over Vane.
* BroughtDownToNormal: It's heavily implied (if not outright stated) that her extended brainwashing/imprisonment at the hands of Ghaleon and Xenobia has pretty much completely sapped all of her magical powers, and very many (Lemia included) are unsure she'll ever even recover ''any'' of them for as long as she lives. Her resulting physical health was also implied to be pretty dire, though that at least seems to have taken an upturn. Still, ''harsh''.
* ForgivenButNotForgotten: Her attitude towards Nash at the end. Although she still cares about him, she makes it crystal clear that he will have to work his butt off to earn back her trust.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: The instruction manual mentions that she's been acting a little out of character. It doesn't, of course, give away the reason but to quote the English language manual: "Could it be menopause...or madness".
* AnIcePerson / PlayingWithFire: Like mother, like daughter.
* ItsAllMyFault: Lemia is a little too hard on herself. She feels that she's to blame for the fall of the sky city Vane from the sky. This is what convinces her to resign her position as mistress of the guild and quietly go into retirement.
* LadyOfBlackMagic: The main BlackMage of the Four Heroes.

!! Ghaleon

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarssemperor_3068.jpg]]
-> A powerful magician who once fought alongside Dyne, but now works in the Vane magic guild with Lemia. He is revealed to be the Magic Emperor, a man clad entirely in black armor who plans to rule Lunar.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: In the remakes, where he's turned into a WellIntentionedExtremist, as opposed to his motives being RageAgainstTheHeavens, and also cuts some of worse KickTheDog moments such as kidnapping villagers to work on the Grindery, and then tests its weapons on them when its finished.
* AllEncompassingMantle: Both on his final boss armor for ''Silver Star Story'', and the armor he wears when he returns in ''Eternal Blue''.
* TheArchmage: Noted as one of the most powerful magicians in the world, with various highly destructive magics in his command.
* BigBad: He is the boss of the Vile Tribe who aims to rule Lunar as their new god.
* CardCarryingVillain: As the Magic Emperor (at least, in the Sega CD version).
* {{Determinator}}: In the original. He is seemingly killed after the first fight, left in a puddle of his own blood. Then he gets back up for the final boss fight, injured, but refusing to bite the dust.
* EvilLaugh: When acting as the "Magic Emperor".
* {{Expy}}: Of [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV Golbez]], just more purple and with looser-fitting clothes. [[spoiler:Like Golbez, he sends one of minions to impersonate a famous, beloved leader who turns into a complete jerk, kidnapps the love interest right after revealing himself and uses a Black Dragon to weaken the party before finishing them off. He even has a giant tower that extends to the heavens!]]
* FallenHero: He's one of the Four Heroes and presumably lived up to the "hero" part in the past (particularly seen in ''Silver Star Harmony''). [[BigBad No longer.]]
* FinalBoss: In both versions of the game.
* FlamingHair: His demonic form in the original game, rendered much more abstractly in his introductory cutscene, and then shown more traditionally in the following boss fight.
* GodhoodSeeker: Ghaleon did try to become an omnipotent being by hijacking the power of Althena.
* GuestStarPartyMember: All versions, when you get him briefly. He's maxed out, so he has a ton of HP and deal more damage with or without his magic staff than Alex can with his current weapons at the point in the game you have him, and his magic will pretty much end a fight instantly.
* HopelessBossFight: The first real fight with him in the remake. There is no way to defeat him.
* {{Jerkass}}: Big time. You oppose him, he'll mock you to no end, especially if you're losing.
* LargeHam: Of the EvilIsHammy variety. We wouldn't seem him surpassed until Zophar came around.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK9q4ZqLQGQ Magic Emperor Ghaleon]].
* LightningBruiser: He's the FinalBoss so he has the most HP and does the most damage of any enemy in the game. Since he moves by teleporting, allowing him to travel to any point on the battlefield, he's also extremely mobile.
* NotSoStoic: When he's first met, he comes across as quiet and aloof, and is always wearing an unreadable expression. Then he reveals himself to be the Magical Emperor, lets out an EvilLaugh, and from that point on, acts loud and bombastic at every opportunity.
* ObviouslyEvil: Toned up in the remakes with a ScareChord following his introduction, despite him being significantly less evil in the remakes.
* OneWingedAngel: In the original, after you defeat him the first time and leave him for dead in a pool of his own blood (seriously), he comes back five minutes later and turns into a demon.
* PainfulTransformation: His OneWingedAngel transformation in the original. After giving a speech about how he isn't beaten yet and will kill the heroes, he screams in agony while transforming...and then the screaming seamlessly transitions into a [[EvilSoundsDeep deep]] EvilLaugh once he finishes.
* PetTheDog:
** He has a garden of pixies, who think he is a genuinely good human. [[http://lunar-net.com/merchandise/allthelunar/media/GhaleonBromide.bmp Doesn't it just warm the heart?]]
** The pixies themselves mention the garden is a GildedCage and think he's out of his gourd. In the remakes, one or two of the pixies state that Ghaleon still had them kidnapped and locked up, albeit in a pretty garden. One notes that he treats them like prized trophies in a display case. Though on the other hand, one mentions they didn't think good humans existed until they met him.
** In the GBA version, it shows Ghaleon meeting with a man who just trapped a fairy and freaks at Ghaleon's presence... and Ghaleon offers to buy the fairy and immediately releases it.
* SanitySlippage: Big time in the original game. RageAgainstTheHeavens is one thing, but he's so pissed that decides to involve numerous innocent lives in what basically boils down him having a personal grudge. Most anybody that doesn't work for him notes he's crazy.
* ShouldersOfDoom: His final boss outfit.
* TeleportSpam: The final fight with him in both versions has him move via teleport.
* TinTyrant: Despite the fact that he specializes in magic.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: As one of the Four Heroes he initially has a good image among everyone, main characters included. Then he reveals he's a villain.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: In the remake. He believes humanity can't survive without a deity watching over them, and he sees Althena's choosing to give up her powers and become mortal as abandoning the people of Lunar to inevitable ruin. His plan is to either become a god himself, or failing that at least force Althena to resume her role.

!! Xenobia
!!! Voiced by: Aya Hara (JP), Kathryn Kirk (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn (EN, ''Harmony'')
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunarssvilesisters_4574.jpg]]
-> A powerful sorceress who leads the Vile Tribe and assists the Magic Emperor. She and her followers were banished to the Frontier for standing against Althena.
----
* TheDragon: To the Magic Emperor.
* TheHecateSisters: Crone
* MasterOfDisguise: She poses as Lemia after robbing the guildmistress of her memories. Her ruse is finally exposed once the heroes find "Lemia" in the Crystal Tower and Mia uses the Mirror of Truth on her.
%%* {{Stripperiffic}}

!! Royce
!!! Voiced by: Machiko Toyoshima (JP), Jennifer Stigile (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/KateHiggins (EN, ''Harmony'')
-> A remake-only character. A fortune-teller who works out of the BazaarOfTheBizarre in Meribia. She and her "sister" Phacia are actually refugees of the Vile Tribe, working directly under Xenobia.
----
* FeatherBoaConstrictor: Seen on her battle sprite [[http://lunar-net.com/merchandise/allthelunar/media/RoyceBromide.bmp and her bromide]].
* ForTheEvulz: She seems to enjoy making others suffer a bit too much.
* FortuneTeller: She poses as one when the heroes first meet her.
* TheHecateSisters: Maiden
* InTheHood: Before unveiling her true identity.
* PlotIrrelevantVillain: All she really serves in the plot is a boss fight at the end of the game and takes some scenes Xenobia had in the original game, and in the end isn't even needed for the story.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: How is that top piece even staying on?

!! Phacia
!!! Voiced by: Creator/SakuraTange (JP), Paula Angel (EN, ''SSS''), Creator/MichelleRuff (EN, ''Harmony'')
-> Another remake character. She is a priestess at the Shrine of Althena on the Katarina region of the mainland. She, along with her "sister" Royce hold their jobs to disguise their true nature as members of the Vile Tribe.
----
* AntiVillain: She sincerely wants to improve the lives of the Vile Tribe, who were banished long time ago to the barren frontier.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Phacia's HeelFaceTurn happens because she witnesses Alex and the party help an injured member of the Vile Tribe during their trek through the frontier. That act convinces her that her people will be more likely to see their lives improved if Alex wins than if Ghaleon does.
* TheHecateSisters: Mother
* HeelFaceTurn: She later betrays her sisters to let the heroes fight against the Magic Emperor.
* HeroicSacrifice: Surprisingly averted, despite the very blatant set-up for one at the Grindery. Shortly before you reach the top, Phacia appears, injured, to help break the seal on the door leading to where Luna awaits, revealing she believes Ghaleon has used them and wishes to aid Alex's cause. Royce and Xenobia appear as well, and express their disappointment in Phacia, who urges you to press on ahead while she holds them off... and disappears with them in a noisy flash of light. Except, after you've defeated Ghaleon and rescued Luna, you later run into her in Meribia - with no explanation of how she survived, or mention of her now-dead sisters - where she discusses her plans of helping the Vile Tribe find a newer, happier life somewhere on Lunar.
* SensibleHeroesSkimpyVillains: Notice how she's the only one of the three sisters who isn't wearing something {{Stripperiffic}}. Now, which one do you think ends up doing the HeelFaceTurn?
!! Taben
-> An inventor working for the Magic Emperor. He is working the Vile Tribe to death to finish his masterwork, the Grindery.
----
%%* GadgeteerGenius*
* PlotIrrelevantVillain: Well, ''mostly'' irrelevant. He does create the Grindery, and pits you against Magical Weapon Nash, thus reuniting Nash with your party. Still, he contributes virtually nothing else to the plot, to the point where Ghaleon or Xenobia may as well have been responsible for that.
* TheUnfought: Never fought except in ''Lunar Legend'', where he pilots a humanoid robot to fight the party, and is killed.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Shows up when the Grindery starts moving and ''vanishes from the plot without a trace''.
