-->''"Despite the Underworld invasion, the people haven't given up hope!"''

The Goddess of Light and the ruler of Skyworld. Palutena goes to great lengths to protect her people, and those who dwell on the surface lands below. She's benevolent, kind, playful, and a massive {{troll}} towards Pit, but still gives him advice and provides him with the Power of Flight when it's needed.
----
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: Her ''Brawl'' redesign, which itself is a more glamorous look than both her original appearance (which still made her look divine) and her appearance in ''Of Myths and Monsters'' (where she appears more homely than the first game). It would later become her official appearance in subsequent games, undergoing some subtle design changes to make her look more youthful in them.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: In the American version of the original ''Kid Icarus'', which replaced the original Japanese [[MultipleEndings Bad Ending]] with a new GoldenEnding. So instead of there being a chance of her [[AndThenJohnWasAZombie turning you into a specknose]] if your run was especially awful, there's a chance she may grant you a SmoochOfVictory.
* AndIMustScream: She suffered under the Chaos Kin's control for ''[[FateWorseThanDeath three years]]'', being unable to control her body while her soul was constantly under threat of being consumed.
* AttackDrones: Her boss battle has her summon two orbs of light that follow Pit around and fire lasers at him.
* BadassAdorable: She's a gorgeous, yet powerful goddess who has a dorky personality.
* BadassBookworm: Going hand in hand with her role as [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Girl]], Palutena is the most knowledgeable god in the game (outside of Dyntos, that is). She also experiments with magics and technologies, sometimes creating new ones.
* BadassInDistress: Throughout the course of the series she has an unfortunate habit of being caught off-guard...
** At first she was a straight up DamselInDistress in the original ''Kid Icarus'', being held captive at her own palace by Medusa and requiring Pit to help her.
** In ''Of Myths and Monsters'', she briefly becomes distressed at the end of the game when she gets [[TakenForGranite turned to stone]] by Orcos.
** Finally, ''Uprising'' has her become captured and her soul under threat of being consumed by the [[PuppeteerParasite Chaos Kin]]. ''For three years.''
* BathtubScene: In the beginning of ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner, Pt. 2''; [[http://i.imgur.com/5hfz2.jpg she's enjoying a hotspring bath]] as she waits for Pit to return with the rest of the food.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: The Goddess of Light, the BigGood of the game, and very beautiful.
* BerserkButton: ''Don't'' call her [[MaamShock ma'am]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Palutena's one of the more pleasant gods in the game for the most part, and is probably more GenkiGirl than goddess. However, as Medusa can attest to before being banished and as Hewdraw learned the hard way, if forced to take a more direct approach, she'll happily remind you ''why'' she's the Goddess of Light.
* BeyondTheImpossible: During ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner'', when she discovers that the Vegetable Monster is vulnerable to water, she uses her Power of Malestorm to create a storm ''indoors''.
* BigEater: Judging by her banter with Pit, during which she'll randomly talk about everything from the great meal they could make out of the Kraken to Phoenix eggs making wonderful omelets. Likely where Pit gets it from; Viridi has to snap the both of them out of ordering a pizza during the [[AlienInvasion Aurum invasion]] of all things.
* BigGood: The Goddess of Light, the ruler of Skyworld, and the one to give Pit his Powers throughout the game.
* BlackAndGrayMorality: In a sense; Palutena is less soft than Pit at punishing evil, so while she isn't evil by any means, her hinted darker side to her may as well be true to form.
* BluntMetaphorsTrauma: She insists she always gets those sayings correct, so maybe not.
* BossBanter: In ''Uprising'' with Pit, and when he's busy either Viridi or Hades. Especially shown in her boss fight, where most of her attacks are telegraphed by a specific phrase.
-->''"Time for a sacrifice!"''\
''"This might sting!"''\
''"Poor you!"''\
''"Cover your eyes!"''\
''"Fly away now!"''\
''"Come out!"''
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: During the [[PuppeteerParasite Chaos Kin]] arc in ''Uprising''. The catch is you have to beat her up without killing her or else you fail the mission. Luckily, you can win the fight without hitting her at all, as knocking down the Chaos Kin causes her to stagger.
* BreakoutCharacter: Her redesign in ''Brawl'', being well received, stayed with her come ''Uprising''; and both the special episode of ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner'' and the game got her so many fans, she got [[PromotedToPlayable promoted to a playable character]] in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' from ''3DS/Wii U'' onward.
* BreakTheHaughty: Possibly. The Chaos Kin's threat to eat her soul must have worked wonders, as after she's revived, Palutena [[HumblePie lacks much of the arrogance she started the story out with]].
* ButtMonkey: ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner'' puts her in this position, getting hung upside-down, attacked by carrots, and having giant pumpkins explode in her face, all because she was distracted while adding a potion.
* CainAndAbel: The Abel to Medusa's Cain. See {{Foil}} below.
* CaptainObvious: Most of her dialogue revolves around her stating the obvious in the Japanese version instead of teasing Pit. Lampshaded by Viridi in Chapter 15.
-->'''Viridi:''' All hail the goddess of obvious.
* CharacterDevelopment: Starts off as [[TheGadfly the largest source]] of Pit's ButtMonkey status and, though benevolent, with escalating hints of arrogance when she gets called out by the other gods — her actions ultimately cause her downfall thanks to the Chaos Kin. Following the events of the Chaos Kin arc, Palutena is [[HumblePie far more humble]], stops teasing Pit as much after he [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifices himself to save her and Dark Pit]], and finally concedes to Dark Pit in Chapter 22 to just how destructive her actions were, when he chews her and Viridi out.
* ClassicalAntiHero: One hell of a [[TheGadfly gadfly]] towards her most trusted servant, and [[NeverMyFault arrogant]] to a fault, but means well, is benevolent and also pleasant compared to many of the other gods.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Can often come off as this, due to her tendency to change the subject and bring up food at random times.
* CoolCrown: A golden laurel crown with a red jewel embedded in it.
* CoolSword: Does not use one, but the Palutena Blade is modeled after her.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Green hair and green eyes.
* DeadpanSnarker: Her snark is usually light-hearted when she talks to Pit, but her deadpan side is most commonly seen when talking with the more morally ambiguous/villainous characters, such as Viridi, Dark Pit and Hades.
-->'''Pit:''' Is that a switch?\
'''Palutena:''' That's what it appears to be.\
'''Pit:''' [[CaptainObvious I'm guessing it does something.]]\
'''Palutena:''' ''They usually do.''\
'''Dark Pit:''' Hold on a second. Your math is a little off. You might want to break out the [[VideoGame/BrainAge Brain Age]], pal.\
'''Viridi:''' I have a brain age of 24!\
'''Palutena:''' ''And that's relevant because...?''
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Of ''Uprising'', even if she's not physically involved that much in the story.
* DubPersonalityChange: In ''Uprising'', Palutena messes with [[TheChewToy Pit]] '''''far''''' more often in the English dub than the original Japanese.
-->''(Chapter 4, Japanese)''\
'''Pit:''' The only ones talking this time were the two of us, right?\
'''Palutena:''' Ah, ''the fact both of us have so few friends is puzzling'', isn't it?\
''(English)''\
'''Pit:''' Even though I almost died, I've really enjoyed our time together.\
'''Palutena:''' ''Aww, you poor guy. You really need to make some friends!''
* EatTheCamera: Two instances of the camera zooming in on Palutena's mouth this way occur in the tie-in short ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner''. Once when she discovers and approaches the now-sentient carrots (which [[ExtremeOmnivore she still intends on eating]] despite having been accidentally brought to life by her rejuvination potion) and again when she's comedically fleeing from the [[AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever giant vegetable monster]].
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Myth/ClassicalMythology Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom]]. Both are [[{{OnlySaneWoman}} among the saner]], more rational and pleasant gods, and are [[TheSmartGirl full of wisdom on almost any topic]], though they still have their [[GoodIsNotNice not-so-nice]] moments. Combined with DivergentCharacterEvolution as her character was fleshed out in ''Uprising'', she has developed into a unique design of its own and is much less a direct interpretation of Athena nowadays and more her own character, even if she remains her analog in-universe.
* ExtremeOmnivore:
** Like Pit, it's implied she'll eat anything. She may have even rubbed off this on him. She makes jokes about how the idea of Pit being turned to a crisp from the lightning might sound delicious, but that she would pull him out of the area where the lightning struck.
** It's also demonstrated in ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner'' where despite the fact that the carrots have been overdosed with her rejuvenation potion and are now ''sentient'', she ''still'' intends to eat them.
--->'''Palutena:''' Well, aren't you all just the cutest? ''But you're all on the menu'', so slicey-dicey and then it's time for a nice, hot oil bath!
* FanservicePack: During her own short in ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner'', she gets a nice view of herself [[BathtubScene enjoying a hotspring bath]]. Later, her trailer for ''[[VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosforNintendo3DSAndWiiU Smash 3DS/Wii U]]'' shows a pair of [[MaleGaze male gazes]] of her hips and chest, the changes in aesthetics for both this game and ''Ultimate'' accentuate her curves more than in ''Uprising'', and she even gets a taunt in-game where she twirls around her staff, not unlike a pole-dance. Each successive game since ''Brawl'' seems to have pushed her a little bit further into MsFanservice territory.
** Funnily enough, subverted in ''Ultimate''; her design depicts the [[SexySlitDress slit of her dress]] being shorter, so as not to reveal so much leg.
* FantasticNuke: Her [[HolyHandGrenade Palutena Glam Buster]] —or [[SophisticatedAsHell Sacred Goddess Clobberlaser]]— which she uses to finish off Hewdraw should Pit take too long defeating him.
* FashionableAsymmetry: She only wears a stocking on her left leg, her dress has a slit on her left side and her sandal is accompained by a leg wrap. Meanwhile, she only wears an anklet on her right leg.
* FatalFlaw: [[NeverMyFault Arrogance]]. It starts out subtly, until many of the gods point out how her actions to defend her land haven't been scrupulous, such as turning Medusa into a monster and then banishing her to the Underworld, hypocritically pointing out how humans bought Hades' Wish Seed plot easily when she also falls for it, and her, Viridi and Hades leaving so much destruction on their wake during their war. All of these instances finally backfire ''really hard'' on her when the Chaos Kin possesses her for three years. Fortunately, she finally [[CharacterDevelopment concedes to her wrongdoing]] in Chapter 22.
* FlunkyBoss: Her boss fight has her occasionally summon Centurion Knights to aid her.
* {{Foil}}: To Medusa and Viridi.
** Both Palutena and Medusa used to rule Skyworld together, but [[CainAndAbel the two are quite literally as different as night and day]]. Palutena is the benevolent [[GodOfGood Goddess of Light]], Medusa is the vindictive [[GodOfEvil Goddess of Darkness]]. Palutena has [[LightEmUp light powers]] to contrast Medusa's [[CastingAShadow dark magic]] and her clothing is {{gold and white|Are divine}} to contrast Medusa's purple dress. Palutena cares for humanity and wishes to protect it, while Medusa despises humanity and wishes to see it destroyed.
** Palutena and Viridi both help Pit out during the game (the latter to ''help'' Palutena), and both of them have similar powers, but their stances on humans are polar opposites of each other. Viridi believes that humans are inherently evil and destructive and incapable of change, and [[KillAllHumans wishes them to die]], while Palutena is aware of their flaws, but believes that humans can grow and learn, and wishes to protect them. From a design standpoint, Palutena is tall, curvy, and has more realistic eyes, while Viridi is short, petite, and has rounder eyes.
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: [[DiscussedTrope Discussed]] in her guidance for VideoGame/{{Bayonetta}} in ''Smash Bros.''; she and Viridi assure that angels and goddesses can look like anything they want to, and that their true forms [[YouCannotGraspTheTrueForm don't look like what humans are seeing, but rather only the aspects they can comprehend]]. How much of that is true or otherwise is never stated — Pit's an angel, and he's not particularly aware of any such ability. It's also entirely possible that [[TheGadfly they were making all of it up just to mess with him.]]
* FounderOfTheKingdom: According to [[AllThereInTheManual the manual]] for ''Of Myths And Monsters'', she is the founder of Angel Land.
* TheGadfly: ''Uprising'' has her messing with Pit a lot (especially [[DubPersonalityChange in the English version]]). Her pranks include teasing Pit with jokes and puns, not warning him when she's going to speed his wings up, squeezing his head by tightening his laurel crown, and so on. Hell, there's a little comic for the post-game option of turning off all dialogue:
-->'''Pit:''' I'm in trouble here, Lady Palutena!\
'''Palutena:''' ''([[DissonantSerenity serene smile]]) You can do it, Pit.''
* GenkiGirl: If ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner'' and her constant teasing with Pit are anything to go by, she's likely like this. Of course, the fact she's like this makes her look less heavenly than previously envisioned.
* GodIsFlawed: This is why she takes a strong stance on protecting humanity. She's fully aware of [[HumansAreFlawed how flawed humanity can be]], but also knows that gods can be just as bad, if not worse than humans and when they fight, humans are innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.
* GodOfGood: She's the Goddess of Light who helps Pit protect humanity from evil. Though she is hinted to have a darker side to her; given she chose to be good when the darkness goddess Medusa chose to be evil, it's likely that they are not inherit qualities.
* GodOfLight: She is the Goddess of Light.
* TheGodsMustBeLazy: [[InvokedTrope Invoked]]; Magnus outright accuses her of "sleeping on the job" on Chapter 2, much to her annoyance.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: Her outfit is predominately white and gold, and she is of course the Goddess of Light.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Unsurprising, given she's based on Athena. According to some of the other gods, Palutena isn't really the nicest of them all as she appears to be. Additionally, more and more hints at a darker side of her appear as ''Uprising'' goes on, demonstrating some of her actions for punishing evil have been rather questionable (such as [[KarmicTransformation turning Medusa into a monster]] ''[[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill on top of banishing her to the Underworld]]''), so it's not hard to see why everyone would wary of her. In the end, she's still more pleasant than the other gods and does show some sort of regret for her past actions, but while [[WellIntentionedExtremist she certainly does mean well]], she's ''not'' pure.
-->'''Medusa:''' I find it very ironic that you would call yourself the goddess of light. After all, it was you who turned me into [[EldritchAbomination a monster]]. It was you who hunted me down.\
'''Palutena:''' [[NeverMyFault You shouldn't blame me for that.]] I only reflected in your appearance [[YouMonster what I saw in your heart]].\
'''Medusa:''' And what about YOUR heart? [[LampshadeHanging I can only imagine what resides there.]]
* GrandTheftMe: A variation happens when she's possessed by the Chaos Kin, while her soul is separated from her body and at the brink of being consumed if not for her HeroicWillpower.
* HeavenlyConcentricCircles: She is the BigGood, and rules the Skyworld as the Goddess of Light. Her redesign brings a {{downplayed}} example of this trope. From her asymmetrical belt hang several golden accessories, one of them consisting of a small circle surrounded by two increasingly bigger rings. They aren't exactly concentric but skewed to the top. Her white, glowing halo is designed this way too, being a filled circle encased by a ring. In general, Palutena has round figures as her geometric {{motif}}.
* HeroicWillpower: As pointed out by Viridi in Chapter 21, the fact that Palutena was able to resist having her soul devoured by the Chaos Kin for three years proves she has incredible willpower.
* HerosMuse: Most of what keeps Pit going is his devotion to her. He even outright admits that the reason he fights is because of her. Whether this is an idealistic sort of hero worship or if he has a hidden crush on her is left largely to the viewer's imagination - there's evidence for either, or both.
* HolyHandGrenade: Her {{light|Em Up}} powers can take this form, such as when she finishes Hewdraw with an enormous beam of vaporizing light.
* HotGoddess: Oh yes, definitely. Her ''Smash Bros.'' redesign turned her outfit into a more realistic AND less subtle one. Especially in ''3DS/Wii U'' and ''Ultimate'', where the different aesthetics accentuate more her body.
* HumansAreFlawed: She's fully aware of the flaws of humanity, but at the same time, she's aware that [[GodIsFlawed gods can be just as bad, if not worse]]. She protects them because she believes humans can grow and change, and while humans may fight with each other a lot, when it comes to wars between gods, they're no more than innocent bystanders.
* HumblePie: While not the absolute worst of all the gods out there in ''Uprising''[note]]Medusa and Viridi are [[KillAllHumans bent on human genocide]], Thanatos and Hades are... well... [[MadGod Thanatos]] and [[GodOfEvil Hades]], Pyrrhon has [[SmallNameBigEgo an incredibly inflated ego]], and so on[[/note]], Palutena is still arrogant to a fault and gets arguably the worst fate of all the gods considering [[AndIMustScream the Chaos Kin possesses her body and almost consumes her soul]]. After this very incident, she's drastically mellowed and concedes to being wrong for contributing to the war.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: It's heavily {{implied|trope}} that when you fight against her during ''Uprising'', she is in a very weakened state thanks to struggling with the Chaos Kin for three years (she literally staggers into the boss fight with her, and collapses in exhaustion when the Chaos Kin loses its link with her). In her Guidance for herself in ''Smash Bros.'', she indicates she could massacre Pit in a fight if she really wanted to, and in ''Uprising'' she can twice demonstrate the ability to charge up a divine WaveMotionGun.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: To Pit, though how much varies by region. For the original, it was more implied in the English version. In ''Uprising'', it’s more hinted in the Japanese version (though there are still a few hints).
* JerkassGods: PlayedForLaughs. [[TheGadfly She simply LOVES teasing Pit]].
-->'''Pit:''' But you would NEVER abuse your power, right?\
'''Palutena:''' ''Of course I would!'' It's all part of the Goddess's job description.\
'''Pit:''' ...I should've gone to school for goddessry.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: {{Downplayed|Trope}}; she enjoys making a ton of jokes at Pit's expense, but she genuinely cares about him deeply, to MamaBear levels.
* KarmicTransformation: She has a habit of dishing these out. She was the one who turned Medusa into a hideous monster originally, and depending on Pit's performance in the original game, she would bestow a new form on him as well, ranging anywhere from a monster to a full-grown angel.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: In ''Smash Bros.''
* KickTheDog: After defeating the Great Reaper, when Pit expresses he is glad he's alive and enjoys his time with Palutena, she dismisses it and tells Pit that he really need to make some friends. The original Japanese game had her lament the two's lack of friends instead, making this dialogue [[DubPersonalityChange limited to the English version]] only.
* KingOfAllCosmos: She can certainly dip into this, and many other characters tend to point out when she screws up/teases too much/acts hypocritical. Her apotheosis of this is seen whenever she cooks.
* LadyAndKnight: The Lady to Pit's Knight, as his boss (captain of her realm's guard) and [[HerosMuse inspiration]].
* LadyOfWar: Always shows a composed stance while guiding Pit and in the battlefield, which also carries over to her attacks in ''Smash Bros''. Since she is based on Athena, the goddess of wisdom, law, and just warfare after all, this is [[JustifiedTrope not really surprising]]. Her upbeat and trollish personality make for a bit of a subversion, though.
* LargeHam: Well, more of a ''small'' ham when compared to [[WorldOfHam everyone else]], Pit included. Her attempts at it sound decidedly more forced than the rest, meaning you'll either be laughing or facepalming in response. Even when possessed by the Chaos Kin, she's still quite over the top, and very expressive in her boss battles.
* LethalChef: Figuratively and literally in ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner''; she became a bit too distracted while using a rejuvenation potion, causing vegetables to become sentinent and dangerous. Though, nothing in the short actually suggests she's a bad chef, just easily distracted while handling powerful potions.
* LightEmUp: She ''is'' the Goddess of Light after all. One off her tricks in battle is to simply shine so much it obscures the screen. To scale, Pit complains about the core off the Aurum Hive being as bright as the sun, but Palutena's light harder to see through. Her powers can even take the form of a HolyHandGrenade if they really need to.
* LightIsGood: The Goddess of Light and the BigGood of the series.
* LightIsNotGood: When possessed by the Chaos Kin.
* LongRangeFighter: As seen in her boss battle, she prefers to keep her distance from opponents and fire energy blasts. However, her appearance in ''Smash Bros.'' shows she can definitely handle herself up close.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Has a personal mirror shield that she uses in battle.
* MeaningfulName: A fairly complicated case — while most agree "Palutena" refers to the [[Myth.ClassicalMythology Greek goddess Athena]], the specific etymology of her name [[https://legendsoflocalization.com/is-her-name-palutena-palthena-parthena-something-else/ is much less certain]]. It could be a JapaneseRanguage {{Portmanteau}} of Pallas Athena ("'''Par'''as'''u''' A'''tena'''"), but could also be derived from [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athena_Parthenos Athena Parthenos]], a reference to the Parthenon, or even the Greek name "Parthena" (which ''would'' render as "Parutena" with Japanese phonetics).
* MaamShock: Really dislikes to be called such, even if the lifespan of gods is implied to be eternal.
* MamaBear: Towards Pit, which complements his UndyingLoyalty towards her. When the effort to save Palutena and Dark Pit right afterwards destroys Pit's wings, Palutena is so insistent on preventing Pit's inevitable death that she sends Dark Pit to the Rewind Spring to reverse time in Pit's favor, which Viridi describes as "cheating death" and "seedy business".
* MindOverMatter: Chapter 18 shows she has powerful telekinesis, able to toss pieces of Skyworld itself at Pit. It carries over into ''Smash Bros.'', where some of her attacks have her telekinetically twirling her staff at opponents, or throwing them using telekinesis.
* MissionControl: Until Chapter 18, when she becomes BrainwashedAndCrazy, leaving Viridi to fill her position. Fortunately, it's not permanent.
* MistressAndServantBoy: Though Pit is the Captain of the Guard, she still has him running her errands as well, usually PlayedForLaughs.
-->'''Palutena:''' ...I could use a coffee.\
'''Pit:''' Sure! Cream and two sugars, right?
* AMotherToHerMen: Deconstructed, especially when compared to Viridi, who is a straight example of this.
** Palutena's so used to relying only on [[HypercompetentSidekick Pit]] that she neglects to train and use the rest of her troops, and when they inevitably die in battle she freely revives them, resulting in an army of weaklings with no incentive to get stronger ([[InformedFlaw even the musclebound Centurion Strongarms, apparently]]).
** Worse, she openly disdains their lack of prowess ''[[KickTheDog after deploying them]]'' ([[WhatTheHellHero which moderately disturbs Viridi]]).
** Further, she also unconsciously babies them. After the Centurions arrive to escort Pit to the Aurum Brain in Chapter 17, Palutena panicks and starts barking at Pit for not protecting them, prompting Viridi to openly criticize Palutena's crummy leadership.
-->'''Palutena:''' Get it together, Pit! ''My poor Centurions are struggling. Destroy those enemies NOW!''\
'''Pit:''' I'm trying my best!\
'''Viridi:''' ''[[DeadpanSnarker Some goddess needs to]] [[LampshadeHanging go to leadership training...]]''
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After being saved from the Chaos Kin, the expression she has clearly says this. Especially when Pit nearly gives up his life for Dark Pit, burning his wings up in the process.
* MysteriousWaif: Interestingly, her rare AR card idol mentions that her history and motivations are little known. Even in ''Uprising'', she gets some questions that she doesn't answer truthfully.
* NeverMyFault: Her FatalFlaw (as seen above), which gets {{deconstruct|ion}}ed as ''Uprising'' unfolds.
** Before the first game, Palutena turns Medusa into a monster and then banishes her to the Underworld as a way to reflect [[YouMonster what she saw in Medusa's heart]]. A pissed off Medusa imprisons Palutena in her temple for it, then (rather justifiedly) chews her out for it in ''Uprising''.
** After Hades incites humanity to war by falsely announcing the seizure of the Wish Seed when the Phoenix's death beacon ignites, Palutena chastises the humans for being so gullible to believe in such a thing as a Wish Seed, despite the fact that the beacon was lit when Pit killed the Phoenix, while on an errand to get to the Wish Seed first, because they bought it, too.
** During the Aurum arc, she blames ''only'' Viridi and Hades for the Aurum invasion, pointing out that the war between the Underworld and Forces of Nature most likely drew the Aurum to Earth in the first place. Viridi rightfully points out that Palutena and Pit are just as responsible, since they raised quite a bit of destruction themselves fighting Medusa.
** Most notably, however, after destroying the Lunar Sanctum, Pit notes something escaped from it, with Palutena retorting it probably wasn't important. [[TemptingFate This ends up in her biggest mistake]]: the [[PuppeteerParasite Chaos Kin]] [[DemonicPossession possessing her]] for three years with her soul in danger of being eaten. [[SarcasmMode Way to go, Palutena.]]
** Possibly as a result of all the events above, [[HumblePie a humbled Palutena]] [[AintTooProudToBeg finally accepts the blame]] after Dark Pit calls her and Viridi out in Chapter 22 for causing so much destruction with their war.
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: There is virtually ''nothing'' this girl can't pull out of her bag of tricks. It's basically Power of ''*insert whatever power the plot needs here*''.
* NiceGirl: The benevolent ruler of Angel Land, civil towards her opposition, and as much as she [[TheGadfly messes with Pit during his missions]], she [[MamaBear cares a lot for him]] [[AMotherToHerMen as well as her Centurions]], reviving them whenever they fall in battle. While she can be quite arrogant, and some of her motives for protecting [[HumansAreFlawed humanity]] are [[GodIsFlawed somewhat unclear]], she still does so and expects them to slowly grow and change. The rest of the gods do hint to [[BewareTheNiceOnes not push her too far]] though, as many of her actions can attest to.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Subtle, but it's there. Like Medusa, and unlike many of ''Uprising'' characters, Palutena's eyes aren't anime-esque, but rather more realistic. This carries on to her appearance in ''Smash Bros''. [[https://i.imgur.com/q7sun8M.png In the anime shorts]] by [[Creator/StudioShaft SHAFT]], they usually [[TaremeEyes soften up]] by default, but [[https://i.ytimg.com/vi/x7V7FdWxX_k/maxresdefault.jpg if she gets dangerous]] or [[https://i.imgur.com/I2Dkpi0.png is up to no good]], they [[TsurimeEyes sharpen up]].
* NotSoAboveItAll: For a goddess who rules over a mystical land, you'd expect her to act like a LadyOfWar, but unless you find her in battle, she sure doesn't act like it much, instead being cheerful, positive and "upbeat, upbeat, upbeat".
* OnlySaneWoman: If she's not being a [[TheGadfly gadfly]] like she usually is, though, she usually keeps her calm and composure no matter the situation. She comes across as this during some interactions with Pit (especially when she's commanding him), as well as during the Aurum arc, in contrast to the childish and short-tempered Viridi and the hammy and chaotic Hades.
-->'''Pit:''' Twinbellows! Here, boy! Old Pit's gonna teach you even MORE new tricks! And if you're good, I'll take you for a walk... and give you a bath... and a treat. We're gonna rack up some serious ''VideoGame/{{Nintendogs}}'' trainer points together!\
'''Palutena:''' ''Focus, Pit.''
* OpaqueNerdGlasses: In ''Uprising'', [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/palutenawithglassesbetter_3045.jpg she dons a pair on one scene in Chapter 17]] just to [[{{Troll}} tease Viridi]]. Alternatively, she does use them in two extra tutorials' artwork (if you bothered to watch the How To Play videos, that is).
* OutOfCharacterIsSeriousBusiness: Downplayed. During her interactions with Lord Dyntos, Palutena is obviously at pains to show respect to the elder god, far more than the etiquette she displays around the other gods.
* PetTheDog: In Chapter 6 of ''Uprising'', Palutena admits she's the one leaving food everywhere because she thinks Pit might want a little snack and enjoys leaving surprises for him.
* PhysicalGod: While she does get captured on occasion, it should be noted that this only happens when she has her guard down or is caught by surprise. Otherwise, she is among the highest-ranking gods and has no qualms demonstrating her power. Best shown in the Air Battle of Chapter 3 when Pit's fighting Hewdraw; if he takes too long to defeat him, Palutena will summon her "Glam Blaster", a ''[[HolyHandGrenade giant column of light]]'', to ''[[OneHitKill one-shot]]'' it. She also showcases other godly powers throughout the game such as her ''sneeze causing a meteor to change course'' at one point during Chapter 13 or creating an opening through a large storm cloud to get to Phosphora's Thunder Cloud Temple in Chapter 14. Chapter 18 has her telekinetically tossing large pieces of Skyworld itself at Pit. Gets taken to its logical conclusion in Chapter 20, where she serves as the chapter's boss, and if that battle plus her dialogue to Pit in her trailer and guidance for ''Smash Bros.'' is any indication, [[WorfHadTheFlu she may have been in a heavily weakened state]] while she was possessed by the Chaos Kin and [[IAmNotLeftHanded may only have been using]] ''[[IAmNotLeftHanded a fraction of her actual power]]''. Additionally, she is the source Pit's huge array of "Powers" which can be seen here https://kidicarus.fandom.com/wiki/Powers. Unlike Pit, who has a limited use of them, she can use them as many times as she wants with no limits. Finally, she supercharges the remnants of the Great Sacred Treasure for Pit to fire a massive WaveMotionGun and finish Hades' physical form off.
* PimpedOutDress: Her dress from ''Brawl'' onward.
* PluckyComicRelief: During ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner''.
* PragmaticHero: Late in the story, Viridi points out to Palutena that reviving the dead is seedy business... while dialogue between Pit and Magnus several chapters before points out that Palutena's army sees no need to get stronger because Palutena keeps reviving them from death.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: Natch! She is the Goddess of Light, after all, and a seemingly very powerful deity.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: [[invoked]] While her true age is unknown, she's obviously much older than she appears. She is young by goddess standards, though, as WordOfGod states, [[https://twitter.com/sora_sakurai/status/186441951845949441 her appearance is 22 years old in human years.]] Lampshaded in the banter between her and Phosphora in Chapter 14.
-->'''Phosphora:''' You're right, I'm sorry. You're ''much'' too young to be called "ma'am".\
'''Palutena:''' You know as well as I do the lifespan of gods. And how about ''you?'' What's ''your'' age?\
'''Palutena and Phosphora:''' I'll tell you ''mine'' if you tell me ''yours!''
* RequisiteRoyalRegalia: Dresses quite elegantly as befits a goddess, and [[KickingAssInAllHerFinery doesn't change her clothes whenever she whoops]].
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness:
** Dips into this when she's teasing Pit.
--->'''Palutena:''' The monster situation is quite ''clamant''.\
'''Pit:''' Is... that a good thing?\
'''Palutena:''' You know. It's ''importunate'', or ''unpropitious''.\
'''Pit:''' Are you still speaking English right now?\
'''Palutena:''' I'm sorry Pit. I didn't mean to confuse you. Here, let me make this easy for you. [[BuffySpeak Big monsters kill Pit grr!]]\
'''Pit:''' Ah! That makes [[SincerityMode perfect]] sense! Thank you!
** And when Pit faces off against the Hewdraw head.
--->'''Palutena:''' Despite my ''[[BeautyEqualsGoodness winsomeness]]'' and ''[[LadyOfWar equanimity]]'', I do have [[TheGadfly a strong streak of]] ''[[TheGadfly rascality]]''.\
'''Pit:''' [[LampshadeHanging I don't even know what that means]]!
* SexySlitDress: With a single slit that exposes her left leg, showing her thigh-high.
* ShipperOnDeck: An easy to miss moment shows her teasing that Viridi has a soft spot for Pit.
* {{Slapstick}}: ''Palutena's Revolting Dinner'' has her enduring some very AmusingInjuries, and in ''Smash Bros.'', she's subject to the same punishment every other fighter is.
* TheSmartGirl: She's one of the smartest gods out there, according to the others. And it shows: she has information on (almost) every single enemy, quickly gains much on most of those she initially has nothing on, and she's very rational in comparison to the other gods. Again, unsurprising given she's based on Athena.
* TheStrategist: Usually has sound advice for traversing terrain and fighting enemies. She significantly less helpful when it comes to the Aurum, but is nonetheless the most consistently useful help against them after Pyrrhon.
* StaffOfAuthority: Like the other gods, she has one too. This is her weapon of choice when she decides to get in on the action (either as a boss or in her playable ''Smash'' appearance).
* TheStoic: Palutena's emotional range is actually very restrained, always keeping to a genteel or lightly amused tone of voice. Even when holding Pit's dying body, her sorrow is very understated. [[NotSoStoic Moments of emotional intensity]] -- such as when she panics over her Centurions sustaining too much damage from the Aurum -— from her are very rare.
* SwordAndSorcerer: The sorcerer to Pit's Sword, providing him the powers he needs for the game.
* TheTease: Started becoming this as of ''Uprising'', and ''Smash Bros.'' takes it further beyond.
* TakenForGranite:
** In ''Of Myths and Monsters'', when Orcos kidnaps her at the end.
** Also during ''Uprising'', although she did it to herself as a precaution, as revealed by Petrified Palutena's idol.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: Banishing Medusa to the Underworld for trying to kill humanity? Seems legit. Turning her into a hideous monster beforehand after winning the fight? ...uh, you might wanna calm down, girl.
* UnwittingPawn: After the Chaos Kin breaks out of the Lunar Sanctum, it possessed Palutena for three years and used her to wreak havoc on the human realm.
* WeaponSpecialization: Her [[StaffOfAuthority staff]] and [[LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe mirror shield]] make her stand out noticeably.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Downplayed. As Viridi points out later, by the time Pit actually confronts her while she's possessed by the Chaos Kin, she's been resisting its attempts to make off with her soul for three years. It's unknown to what extent this has affected her combat ability, but she is notably staggering when she walks into the arena to fight Pit. (In ''Super Smash Brothers'', she implies she could massacre Pit in a serious fight).

Palutena's ordinary soldiers. Unlike the other gods, she usually doesn't bother sending them out because they're rather weak and she doesn't like to see them get hurt, and Pit is already [[OneManArmy a strong enough military on his own.]]
----
* AbnormalAmmo: Centurion Strongarms will throw ''dumbbells'' at Pit for a ranged attack.
* DeathIsCheap: Through dialogue and their Idols, ''Uprising'' reveals that the Centurions can be revived. Pit believes this is why the Centurions are so weak. They have no incentive to get stronger if they'll just get revived.
* DubNameChange: Icarus in the Japanese version. This is referenced in ''Of Myths And Monsters'', where Palutena's army of Centurions is called the Icarus Army.
* DumbMuscle: The Strongarm Centurions are this. Even Pit says they're all brawn, including their brains.
* EliteMook: The Centurion Knights.
* EscortMission: Two Centurion Strongarms need to be defended by Pit in order for him to reach Pyrrhon during the second half of Chapter 17. If both are killed the first time, Palutena will summon two more, but if those are killed, its a NonStandardGameOver.
* {{Flight}}: Despite their tiny wings, they can fly.
* GagNose: All Centurions have large noses.
* {{Irony}}: They're more of a threat when they turn against their leader.
* JavelinThrower: Centurion Knights will toss their spears for a ranged attack.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Centurion Knights come equipped with shields. Unfortunately for them, they can easily be destroyed.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Of all the human(-like) characters in the game, Centurions and their variations have the most cartoonish and exaggerated proportions. Unusually, this is because they retained their original designs while other human-like characters such as Pit and Palutena got more detailed and realistic designs.
* OneHitPointWonder: In the first game, it only takes one hit to bring one down. ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'' takes it a step further by having them expire as soon as they hit their target.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: Their wings are on their heads rather than their backs.
* RedShirtArmy: These guys die so much that even Palutena jokes about it.
* TakenForGranite: In the original, Medusa turned them all into stone. In order to get them back, Pit had to use a hammer to free them.
* TopHeavyGuy: Centurion Strongarms.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Pit. Especially shown during the Aurum arc where despite knowing full well they would probably be killed, they still helped Pit defeat the Aurum.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: In ''Uprising'', the Strongarm Centurions are capable of powerbombing Pit and Magnus when they appear as enemies in Chapter 18 and 20, although they can't grab you while you're in the middle of a melee combo.

-->''"Your training is complete."''

A friendly god who aids Pit either by testing him in exchange for gifts, raising his strength, or raising his health bar.
----
* AllPowerfulBystander: In some versions of the myths Palutena's analog Athena is stronger than Zeus, but in most Zeus stands far above the other Olympians. And given he casually acts against Medusa and Orcos in areas they control this would seem to be the case too, but besides helping Pit he does nothing to stop them.
* CharacterCatchphrase: YOU WEAKLING!
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: While the tile enemies used in his training tests reappear in ''Uprising,'' Zeus doesn't even get a passing mention.
* CoolOldGuy: ''Wow, Awesome Job, Pit!''
* EccentricMentor: Sometimes he simply rewards Pit based on his progress, other times he puts Pit through potentially lethal trials, but still rewards him for surviving and gives him the option to decline...although not without mocking Pit if he does leave.
* HolyHalo: Above head version, making him look more like depictions of saints or angels than Zeus...
* KaleidoscopeHair: In the first game his hair changes colour as Pit's does.
* NoNameGiven: In the first game and only went under ''friendly god''. Named Zeus in ''Of Myths and Monsters''.
* SinkOrSwimMentor: He'll give you weapon upgrades, only if you pass his training tests. Strength levels only need a high enough score, and of course finding him.

The God of the Sea. Normally neutral, Poseidon prefers to keep to himself and rule the seas while silently observing events on the surface. Annoyed by the antics of the Underworld Army, he aids Pit and Palutena by opening the sea to the Seafloor Palace.
----
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Has bluish skin.
* {{BFG}}: He himself does not use one, but a weapon called the Poseidon Cannon is modeled after him.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: His reasoning for sinking a city to stop the humans from becoming a problem.
-->'''Poseidon:''' Humans consist of equal parts hubris, envy, and deceit. Sometimes one has to put them in their place.
* MakingASplash: He's the God of the Sea, people.
* OneShotCharacter: Completely disappears from the plot after Chapter 7.
* OnlySaneMan: Unlike most of the other gods, he has more justifiable reasons for what he does (i.e. sinking a city when those in it were becoming a problem, without going off the handle like Viridi). Granted, however, it's difficult to judge how well he fits this trope due to his rather brief appearance in-story.
* ProngsOfPoseidon: Fittingly enough.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: He only wears a white robe.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Poseidon enters the plot partway through the Chapter 7 air battle, and leaves it the start of the Chapter 7 land battle.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Sank a city when its inhabitants were becoming a problem. At least he's calmer about it than Viridi.

-->''"Pyrrhon senses danger... and now, Pyrrhon sees it!"''

The self-proclaimed Sun God. He is mostly seen as an oddball among gods. Seems to think he's a superhero.
----
* AffablyEvil: He's quite friendly, even after his true nature is revealed.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Has red skin.
* AmbitionIsEvil: His desire to take control of the Aurum and be the strongest God resulted in him getting controlled instead, once the Aurum Brain resumed control.
* BarbieDollAnatomy: He's technically nude, but any naughty bits are nonexistent.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He presents himself as an eccentric, brash, but well-meaning character at first glance, then reveals himself to be far more dangerous than he looks.
* TheChessmaster: He was using everyone's help to get to the Aurum Brain and gain control of the Aurum himself. His plan ends up backfiring about four minutes after his hijack, however.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: [[ObfuscatingStupidity Or at least he acts like one]].
* CreepyMonotone: As Aurum Pyrrhon. He even says "Ow" and "Shazamitylam" in monotone while fighting him.
* ConvectionSchmonvection: He's for all intents and purposes ''Kid Icarus's'' Human Torch, yet he's able to carry Pit without fear of burning him.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: His attempt to take over the Aurum by combining himself with their core computer backfires viciously on him and he ends up being assimilated.
* DubNameChange: From "[[Myth/EgyptianMythology Raz]]" in the Japanese version.
* EvilAllAlong: His plan was to merge with the Aurum Brain to become the head of the Aurum HiveMind and become more powerful than the other gods. This backfires once the Aurum Brain takes him over. Though it seems that Pit defeating him brought him back to his senses, as Palutena mentions that he's pushing the Aurum away, though that may just be the massive fiery exhaust from him exploding pushing them away.
* EvilIsHammy: Played with. While he is ''undeniably'' hammy, once he reveals his true colors, he becomes progressively less so. This is due to the Aurum's personality override.
--> '''Aurum Pyrrhon: SHAZAMITYLAM.'''
* EvilIsNotAToy: Taking over the Aurum Brain backfires, as it outwills him eventually.
* {{Expy}}: Not only of Helios the sun god but of Helios' ambitious son Phaethon. Phaethon wasn't acknowledged by the other Gods despite being one of them and took drastic action and demanded to drive his father's chariot to prove them wrong. Not only did it backfire on him, but it cost Phaethon his life.
* FakeUltimateHero: It's eventually revealed he was merely using everyone to take control of the Aurum.
* FlamingHair: His hair, like most of his body, is completely WreathedInFlames.
* FlyingFirepower: Can fly in the air and toss fire blasts at enemies.
* ForGreatJustice: He has a delivery, and its return address is '''JUSTICE'''!!! Subverted in the end, when it's revealed he plans to take control of the Aurum.
* FullFrontalAssault: He's completely nude.
* GemTissue: Pyrrhon has a green jewel on his forehead.
* AGodAmI: Despite being the [[AmbiguousSituation self-declared]] sun god (Palutena refers to him as the sun god when he shows up, but Viridi notes "that's what he claims to be" when Pit expresses confusion and his idol states he's the "self-proclaimed" sun god), but he plans to take control of the Aurum and become, in his own words, a "Level Infinity Epic Supergod-Plus!"
* HandBlast: Pyhrron uses this to attack the Aurum. '''Kablooey! Kablammy!''' The Burning Palm weapon, in addition, seems to be patterned after him.
* HeroicBuild: Bordering on WalkingShirtlessScene.
* HijackingCthulhu: His ultimate goal is to take over the [[HiveQueen Aurum Brain]] and thus the entire Aurum swarm by having Pit weaken it. Unfortunately for him, [[EvilIsNotAToy the Aurum Brain recovers and ultimately wins the battle of minds, turning him into yet another pawn of the Aurum]].
* IdiotHero: He's very heroic, but also very stupid. Turns out, however, he's not quite as [[EvilPlan heroic]] or [[ObfuscatingStupidity stupid]] as he first appeared.
* {{Kamehamehadoken}}: His Pyro Cannon attack, which he uses in Ch. 17.
* LargeHam: One of the biggest ones in the game. Given that ''Uprising'' takes place in a WorldOfHam, this is really saying something.
* {{Leitmotif}}: He has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2BRLPgd9rY&feature=my_liked_videos&list=LL5A68Xz9vd9pNuUOTW6GeBw a theme]] that plays when he's the focus of the scenes in chapters 15 and 17. The theme that plays during chapter 17 can count as a DarkReprise since it plays when he hijacks the Aurum.
* LightIsNotGood: He's the Sun God and is seemingly on everyone's side, but it's soon revealed he was using them to take control of the Aurum.
* LordErrorProne: He means well, but he can be reckless at times. Such as unintentionally making the Aurum Generator stronger with his firepower.
* MilesGloriosus: Minus the cowardice, at least. He's brash and brave to a fault.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: Palutena does this to him at one point. His idol refers to him as the ''self-proclaimed'' sun god, so this may be because he's not actually a god.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: He ends up making the Aurum Generator stronger [[FeedItWithFire when he attacks it with fire.]]
* NoIndoorVoice: Shouts practically every line.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Seems like an oddball right? Not exactly...
* ObfuscatingStupidity: He's not nearly as dumb as people think he is. The rest of the cast figures this out all-too late.
* PlayingWithFire: He's the Sun God after all.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: Again, he says he's the Sun God.
* ShapingYourAttacks: Pyrrhon can mold his fire attacks into other shapes, his SignatureMove being the "Pyro Snake".
* SuperEmpowering: After merging with the Aurum Brain, he's capable of enhancing the Aurum troops with his fire powers.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Pyrrhon always refers to Pyrrhon by Pyrrhon's own name!
* TronLines: Has yellow markings all over his body.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Is never seen or mentioned again after the Aurum arc.
* WhatTheHellHero: He makes the fight against the Aurum Generator harder than it should be by attacking it with fire, and he just sheepishly mutters something close to "oops" and leaves Pit to fend for himself.
-->'''Pit''': Ugh, what an idiot!
* WikiWalk: This is heavily implied just by the mere mention of "Divinipedia". Of course, there's nothing really fishy with his knowledge about the Aurum, given he's the only one of all the gods who seems to know all there is know about them.
* WorthyOpponent: While Pit is being carried into the Aurum Brain atop a platform carried by the Forces of Nature, Hades notes that Pyrrhon is focusing his troops surprisingly closely on Pit himself (as opposed to the platform, presumably). Viridi surmises that the only person he considers an equal is Pit.
* WreathedInFlames: He is constantly surrounded in a flaming aura.

The God of Smithing. He created the Three Sacred Treasures.
----
* AllPowerfulBystander: Is one of, if not the most powerful character in the series, outright stated to be more powerful than even Hades and Palutena. And yet he is content to merely forge weapons and replicas of assorted locations and enemies.
* CoolOldGuy: An old man who happens to be a pretty fun guy to hang out with.
* DeadpanSnarker: Frequently pokes at Pit's rudeness and idiosyncracies.
* EccentricMentor: His manner of teaching Pit is odd, but he does want to help.
* {{Expy}}: Of the Greek god of smithing Hephaestus, who was known for making all the weapons for the Gods and keeping out of their affairs. Though Dyntos appears to be far more powerful than Hephaestus.
* FashionableAsymmetry: He wears carved blocks of stone on his left wrist and right ankle.
* HandWave: Why are enemies and locations from all over the game showing up in the realm of a god that had nothing to do with them? Well, they're copies made by Lord Dyntos.
* InsistentTerminology: He will have people know that it's '''Lord''' Dyntos, for the record.
* TheJuggernaut: He's potentially the biggest user of this trope in the entire game going by Palutena's description of Dyntos. To put it bluntly, he can recreate virtually anything and everything without any flaws for the most part[[note]]Pseudo-Palutena might be an exception, depending on whether or not he intentionally made her that way[[/note]] and being able to make the copies of what he makes should they be enemies be far superior to their originals makes his actual power that's not seen even more frightening. The Great Sacred Treasure being his personal creation without it being based off of anything else as well as Pseudo-Palutena and the copy of the Immortal Phoenix, are three of his strongest creations and are no pushovers. He even managed to recreate [[InstakillMook Ornes]], Underworld monsters that Pit can only defeat with the Arrows of Light and most definitely with the Great Sacred Treasure which according to Dyntos, far surpasses the Three Sacred Treasures in terms of sheer power. Yeah, Dyntos is by far the most realistically powerful being in Uprising. This isn't even getting to where Dyntos isn't really showing his true potential... seeing how Pit's battle against the recreated Space Kraken takes place in ''outer space''.
* NonActionGuy: He states that he actively doesn't get himself involved in the affairs of other gods, hence why he never shows up until late into the game. Him piloting the Great Sacred Treasure to battle Pit is an exception, as he has to test him as worthy of such a vessel.
* OldMaster: Dyntos is the only god to show his extreme age physically, with his giant white beard. It suits him, because he has enough knowledge of the game's universe that he can recreate any weapon and any being whenever he wants.
* ReadyForLovemaking: {{Subverted|Trope}} in that there's no actual sexual connotations behind it, but when Pit enters his domain before fighting the Great Sacred Treasure, Dyntos is shown floating in midair, leaning on his side with his hand on his cheek.
* RealityWarper: Dyntos can do virtually '''''anything'''''. For starters, he can, among other things, create replicas of ''everyone'' in the game, from enemies to bosses and characters alike. He can even mess with their AI to make them tougher (Such as making an enemy move faster than it normally does). He can even replicate the locations Pit fights them in. He's also capable of replacing Palutena with a clone while ''putting the real Palutena to sleep'' despite her being miles away in Skyworld. What makes this frightening is that there seems to be virtually no limit to his powers and Palutena herself implies that he has none, period. As Palutena herself notes, he could potentially take over everything if he wanted to.
* StoryBreakerPower: Potentially. The speed at which he can make copies of ''anything'', not to mention make them all superior, could easily see him as the ultimate conqueror if that's what he wanted to accomplish.
* TopGod: If not necessarily the absolute strongest, he's implied to be more powerful than any other god in the series (minus possibly Zeus, who isn’t even in this game). In addition, Palutena refers to him as Lord Dyntos, implying a position of high authority. Then again, if he's based on Hephaestus, it would make sense that he's stronger than the majority of the Gods given he makes the majority of weapons for said Gods and Goddesses and would know their strengths and weaknesses as a result.
* UltimateBlacksmith: Created the weapons in the game, including the Three Sacred Treasures and the Great Sacred Treasure; he's also made perfect copies of every enemy in the game, as well as a few of the bosses Pit has faced thus far. He's also said to be the one reverse engineering several enemy types (most prominently, the Aurum) into weapons for Pit.

-->''"Hey there, Pit-stain."''

A mysterious black-winged angel. He can soar through the skies without being granted the power of flight - and [[TheRival is determined to face Pit in battle]].
----
* AdaptationalBadass: In the original Japanese, his attempt to take out the Underworld Guardian breaks his leg and requires him to fly off to heal. The English release gives him a little more spotlight, rewriting the scene so he flies off undamaged.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: A unique example that doesn't deter from his character. In the original Japanese version, Dark Pit is more of a {{Tsundere}} towards Pit and co. after he pulls
* AntiHero: He started out as an opponent for Pit who was unaffiliated to the Underworld Army despite being created by Pandora's Mirror of Truth, only fighting Pit for his own reasons. But after realizing that [[CantLiveWithoutYou killing Pit means he'll die as well]], he warms up to Pit and becomes one of his most important allies.
* AnthropomorphicPersonification: Downplayed. He's supposed to be the embodiment of Pit's dark side, but Pit is so inherently kind and pure that the only negative traits he embodies are Pit's brashness, sharp tongue, arrogance, and thrill for battle.
* ArchEnemy: Seems to have found one in Pandora.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: As a manifestation of the darkness in Pit's heart, Dark Pit represents some of the traits Pit keeps to himself -- such as a rather arrogant personality and his thrill for battle, which for Dark Pit goes beyond being HotBlooded into being an arrogant BloodKnight.
* AscendedExtra: He was originally just a palette swap of Pit in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl''.
* BadassAdorable: Like his light counterpart, he can kick ass, as shown in chapter 9 when he literally "falcon kicks" the mini-boss at the beginning when Pit can't do any damage with the Sacred Treasures. Ironically in the Japanese version, kicking the enemy actually [[BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu resulted in him being injured]] instead of coming out without a scratch like in the English version.
* BadassDriver: Dark Pit has a tendency to take the Lightning Chariot and [[CarFu ram it at his opponents]] when Pit needs help.
* BashBrothers: With Pit, [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe eventually]].
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: In a way. Pit never willingly fights Dark Pit as he has no quarrel with him. Seeing this, as well as the fact he can't live without him ([[CantLiveWithoutYou literally]]), he warms up to Pit, becomes a -reluctant- ally of him, and even helps revive him in Chapter 22.
* BerserkButton:
** Do NOT call him "[[EmbarrassingNickname Pittoo]]"!
-->'''Pit:''' Hey, it's Pittoo!\
'''Dark Pit:''' ''Would you quit calling me that?''
** Medusa's offer to help him defeat Pit in Chapter 6 annoys him to the point that he declares he's postponing dealing with Pit to deal with Medusa.
* BlackAndGrayMorality: Unlike Pit, who sees the world in black and white, he sees things in black and grey. While the Underworld Army are indeed the villains, the Gods they serve aren't any better. He even [[DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu calls the Gods out]] on how they treat the world with their powers and place the blame on humans; Palutena even admits he's right.
* BloodKnight:
** Implied by the following exchange, though he gradually grows out of it after some CharacterDevelopment:
-->'''Palutena:''' Pittoo just isn't happy unless he's fighting someone.\
'''Dark Pit:''' You say that like's a bad thing!
** And earlier in Chapter 9:
-->'''Pit:''' What are you doing here?\
'''Dark Pit:''' The same thing you're doing, pummeling Underworld fools. I'm just way better at it.\
'''Palutena:''' Maybe you also sensed that Pit could use your help.\
'''Dark Pit:''' Don't make me laugh. Now enough talky talk! There's fighting to be done!
* BreakTheHaughty: According to Chapter 21, the reason for Dark Pit [[HeelFaceTurn switching sides]] is because he found out that he can't live without Pit. He won't go into details on what happened to him while Pit was in the ring, but it wasn't pleasant, to say the least. Pit [[HeroicSacrifice nearly dying]] for his sake is enough for him to fully switch sides and be Pit's ally.
* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: In the original Japanese version, his DynamicEntry through the Underworld Gatekeeper's head was actually overkill and he injured himself.
* BroughtDownToNormal: After Chapter 22, he [[WingsDoNothing loses his power to fly independently]] as a result of Pandora's revival.
* BrutalHonesty: If the [[JerkassGods gods are Jerkasses]], he'll say it to their faces.
* ButtMonkey: He may be the ShadowArchetype of Pit, but that doesn't make him immune to the abuse his alter ego suffers. Almost every character refers to him as [[EmbarrassingNickname Pittoo]], and Pit kicks his ass several times over the course of the game.
* CanonImmigrant: He made his debut in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'' as a [[EvilCostumeSwitch simple color change for Pit]]. He was notable for changing Pit's color more dramatically than any of the other costumes, which really only changed his tunic color and slightly changed his wings' tint.
* CantLiveWithoutYou: Dark Pit's change of heart comes when he finds out killing Pit means he dies as well.
* CarFu: Rams the Lightning Chariot into the Chaos Vortex to prevent the Chaos Kin from escaping. He also runs it through Hades so he could grab Pit and escape with him.
* CloneAngst: It's not fun being seen by the world as nothing more than Pit's EvilKnockoff and getting slammed with a nickname that is basically an onomatopoeia for "spit". Played with in Chapter Six; during the aerial battle segment, Dark Pit is convinced he's the original and wants to kill his "copy" Pit.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Downplayed. Chapter Six indicates that Dark Pit is a little confused he thinks he's the original and that, if he were a clone, he'd have no reason to kill the original... as he explains to Pit while trying to kill him.
-->'''Dark Pit:''' ''Come on now. Think about it. [[InsaneTrollLogic If I was a copy, why would I kick my own butt?]]''
* CombatPragmatist: Whether it's against Pit or the Underworld army, he has a habit of attacking them when they least expect it.
* TheComicallySerious: Hades claims he has no sense of humor. In return, Dark Pit just ignores him, unlike Pit.
* CoolCrown: Wears a laurel crown just like Pit.
* CopiedTheMoralsToo: While Dark Pit may want the original dead, he openly disdains the gods and accuses them of screwing things up to their face. Pit appears to agree to an extent, but he rarely says so.
* DarkerAndEdgier: He's far more serious and cynical than Pit and isn't one to play nice. But if the game isn't taking things seriously, [[ButtMonkey he also won't be taken seriously.]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: He's the AnthropomorphicPersonification of Pit's dark side, but is only neutral at worst.
* DeadpanSnarker: Being the manifestation of Pit's more negative qualities, Dark Pit is much more loose with the snark.
-->'''Palutena:''' Pit is still unconscious. With his wings burned up, he can't last much longer. But I thought of a way to save him.\
'''Dark Pit:''' ''Of course you did.''
* DecompositeCharacter: Dark Pit's design was originally a PaletteSwap from ''Super Smash Bros. Brawl''.
* DefrostingIceKing: After some CharacterDevelopment, he softens up to everyone around him, going as far as to save Pit from death.
* {{Determinator}}: He is determined to save Pit after the latter saved his life from Chaos Kin. At the cost of losing his ability to fly, he manages to bring Pit's wings back.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: After healing Pit, he decides to fly off rather than try and explain why he helped, forgetting that he'd lost the power of flight that he stole from Pandora.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: In Chapter 22, he calls out the godhood for their deeds, damaging the world with their constant wars, blaming it on humans and claiming their souls.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Literally. The first thing he does upon being created from the Mirror Of Truth is casually backhand Pandora.
* DubNameChange: From "''Black'' Pit" in the Japanese version.
* DynamicEntry:
** In Chapter 9, he charges in from out of nowhere to deliver a literal flying kick to the Underworld Gatekeeper, dropping the boss that Pit was struggling to damage even with the Three Sacred Treasures. Palutena notes that "face-kicking isn't usually this effective."
** In Chapter 20, he comes out of nowhere to slam the Lightning Chariot into the closing portal to the Chaos Vortex, expanding it for him and Pit to enter.
* EarlyBirdCameo: One of Pit's alternate colors in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'' is basically Dark Pit with normal Pit's eye color.
* EffectiveKnockoff: Like Pit, he needs extra power to fly. Unlike Pit, once he has that power, his wings don't burn up after five minutes.
* EnemyWithout: Downplayed. He's the personification of Pit's worst qualities... but Pit is such a NiceGuy that his "worst qualities" are his sarcastic sense of humor, brashness, and stubborn behavior. His lone villainous trait is a desire to kill Pit, though even then he's not particularly serious about it, wanting to destroy the underworld forces that created him more. He eventually settles on trying to beat Pit in non lethal games of Light vs Dark.
* EmbarrassingNickname: "Pittoo"; he got this nickname courtesy of [[TheGadfly Palutena]]. He's known as Bla-Pi or Kuro-Pi in Japan, short for Black Pit or Kuro Pit, and [[SdrawkcabName Tip]] in French. Regardless of the version, he hates it.
** Hades takes it a bit farther and gives him the downright childish name of ''Pitooey''.
** He's less prone to reacting to it as time goes on in ''Uprising'', although he'll still snap at Pit for calling him that in ''Smash Bros''.
** It also hasn't stuck completely. In Palutena's Guidance in ''Smash'', the others actually call him "Dark Pit" when merely talking ''about'' him, but use "Pittoo" to his face, possibly to get a rise out of him (such as Pit greeting him in Dark Pit's codec conversation, and [[{{Troll}} Palutena's]] victory quote against him). Even the crowd calls him Pittoo when cheering for him.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Like his light counterpart, he has no superpowers of his own and the powers he uses come from gods.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The first thing he does upon his creation is to deliver an OffhandBackhand to Pandora when she orders him to kill Pit, showing he takes orders from no one.
* EveryoneHasStandards: He's absolutely ''disgusted'' with both the Chaos Kin and Hades for [[YourSoulIsMine desecrating]] and [[SoulEating eating souls]], explicitly describing Hades' usage of souls to [[PoweredByAForsakenChild create monsters]] as "the sickest thing [he's] ever heard".
* EvilIsAngular: Downplayed. He's more unpleasant than actually evil, and though he's pretty much just a color-swap of Pit, Dark Pit has also TsurimeEyes and a triangular pattern on the hem of his toga to contrast his counterpart's more rounded lines. Concept art also depicts Dark Pit's wings as being narrower and more pointed than Pit's.
* EvilCounterpart: Parodied. Try as he might, he's almost as much of a ButtMonkey as Pit.
* EvilDoppelganger: Starts off as one toward Pit, but subverted midway through when he switches sides. Then he's more of a jerkish twin.
* EvilKnockoff: Was supposed to be one of Pit for the Underworld forces. He's really just neutral at worst, and eventually sides with the heroes later on.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Del Rio voices him with a slightly deeper inflection than he does Pit. Not so much "evil" as "AntiHero", though.
* EvilWearsBlack: To show his status as Pit's dark side. Downplayed in that he's neutral at worst.
* FallenAngel: Inverted. Turns against his goddess after the very first order she gave him. She was the goddess of [[GodOfEvil calamity and deceit]], so he's much more sympathetic than most examples.
* FinishingEachOthersSentences: Leads to Pit and Pitoo finishing a motto together in Chapter 21.
* FlawedPrototype: Pandora meant to use the Mirror of Truth to make an EvilDoppelganger of Pit who would serve the Underworld Army, but Pit smashed it before the process was complete (so Palutena speculates)--Dark Pit is Pit's EvilCounterpart all right, but he's only loyal to himself. Unusually for a "flawed" prototype, Dark Pit seizes a quick advantage over the original when he betrays Pandora and steals her power to give himself the unlimited Power of Flight.
* {{Flight}}: Absorbs Pandora's power to be able to fly on his own. He loses this power in Ch 22 when the Rewind Spring revives her.
* {{Foil}}: To Pit. Both are on the opposite ends of the SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism; Pit is [[WideEyedIdealist the optimistic idealist]] who believes in the good of everyone, human and gods alike. Dark Pit, however, is incredbly [[TheCynic cynic]], fully aware that [[HumansAreFlawed humans can be bad]] and the [[GodIsFlawed gods can be just as, if not, outright worse]]. Also, while Pit is extremely loyal to Palutena, Dark Pit holds no allegiance to anyone but himself... until he allies with Viridi in ''Smash Bros.'', if only because their interests and ideals overlap.
* ForgotICouldFly:
** He only uses his Pandora-stolen Power of Flight against Pit (providing an incredible boost to his ranged attack prowess) twice in Chapter 6; after that, he just uses flight or battle extraction as escape methods.
** Also {{inverted|Trope}} later on Chapter 22; after Pandora revives in the Rewind Spring, he briefly forgot that he ''couldn't'' fly.
* GoodFeelsGood: Heavily {{implied|Trope}} to be the reason he keeps coming back to save the day and help Pit, not that he'll admit it.
* GoodIsNotNice: He may share Pit's sense of justice, but he's nowhere as nice as him due to his fierce independent streak and his tendency to speak his mind. Especially shown during the Chaos Kin boss battle where if you hit him by accident, he'll hit back.
* GoodWingsEvilWings: Has dark teal wings (although they appear black in different lighting, or when he's using Pandora's powers to fly), in contrast with Pit's white wings.
* HeelFaceTurn: Probably the biggest thing that sets him apart from all the other evil twins, clones and knockoffs of other Nintendo heroes (e.g. [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Dark Link,]] [[Videogame/SuperMarioSunshine Shadow Mario]], [[Videogame/MetroidPrime Dark Samus]], [[VideoGame/FZero Blood Falcon]], etc.), Dark Pit eventually turns on the side of good. Though in the Palutena Conversations in ''Super Smash Bros.'', it's implied it's a HazyFeelTurn, as he doesn't quite join Pit and Palutena, instead being allied with Viridi's Forces of Nature.
* HiddenDepths: Inverted. Palutena is obviously uncomfortable when she alludes Dark Pit being derived from Pit's apparent dark side.
* HotBlooded: A more subdued version, but it's still there.
* IWorkAlone: He explicitly states that he's "no pawn" and only serves himself. Medusa's offer to help him kill Pit agitates him into turning against her.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Implied during the Chaos Kin arc. His soul is needed to revive the Chaos Kin according to the ash idol (and Viridi states that the Chaos Kin only went after the purest of souls), and according to Hades, Dark Pit's soul isn't your average one. Given that he's the manifestation of Pit's heart, and the fact that he acts neutral at worst, it would make sense that Dark Pit inherited the purity of Pit's heart.
* InSeriesNickname: Pit, Palutena, and every character in the game insists on calling him Pittoo (as in [[{{Pun}} "Pit Two"]]). And he doesn't like it one bit.
* IrrationalHatred: Early on, Dark Pit is convinced he's the original and wants to kill Pit. Medusa drops by to encourage Dark Pit to kill his "doppelganger" and even offers to help, only for Dark Pit to be so offended he decides to prioritize her forces instead.
* IShallTauntYou: During the BossBattle of Chapter 6, Dark Pit appears to have quickly and quietly gotten over his initial confusion as to whether he or Pit was the original, and instead resorts to calling Pit a puppet and calling himself a reflection of Pit's true self.
* JackOfAllStats: Much like Pit.
* JerkassHasAPoint: It's really difficult to disagree with him when he calls Palutena and Viridi out on how their powers have caused wars, abusing the world with them. Viridi still blames it on humans, whereas Palutena agrees, conceding he has a point.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Abrasive, sarcastic, arrogant, and brash. But hardly a villain.
* TheLancer: Eventually becomes this to Pit.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Since Pit does not have one, it's Dark Pit's music that plays during the final leg of Light versus Dark.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: Arlon brings Dark Pit to the Lunar Sanctum to put him in Pit's way.
* MirrorCharacter: Dark Pit is a clone of Pit and represents not only his darker, repressed traits, but some of the positive ones, such as his resentment at being a tool of the gods. While they're opponents when Dark Pit first appears, they reconcile and Dark Pit assists Pit later. He was even created by the Mirror of Truth.
* MirrorMatch: Dark Pit engages Pit in battle multiple times in the early game.
* MobileMenace: His battle extraction is inferior to that of Palutena and Viridi, but Dark Pit can use it whenever he feels like it, while Pit is railroaded. Dark Pit's power of flight is also superior to what Palutena and Viridi can grant Pit, and doesn't threaten to burn his wings no matter how much he uses it.
* MultiMeleeMaster: Much like Pit. In Chapter 6, he can be seen wielding a Blade, Club, Staff, Palm, Cannon, and Bow. He will also be seen using whatever weapon Pit has on him when he breaks the Mirror of Truth, and in Chapter 22, he is playable, and can use any weapon in your inventory. After Chapter 6, he seems to settle into using a Silver Bow for land battle and a variant of the First Blade that shoots darkness in air battles.
* NayTheist: He dislikes taking orders from the gods and tends to view them as petty squabblers who cause most of the problems in the story... [[JerkassHasAPoint and he's not entirely incorrect]].
* NotDistractedByTheSexy: His reaction to seeing Amazon Pandora is that of confusion given that he doesn't stop attacking her and isn't convinced that's the real Pandora, whereas Palutena and Viridi are shocked and Hades is silent from the revelation.
* NotSoAboveItAll: The fact that he and Pit think the same way puts him in this category by default (as shown in Chapter 21, where they finished their motto that they both made up on the spot). During Chapter 22, he also contributes to the [[ShoutOut/KidIcarusUprising Shout-Outs page]] by telling Hades to break out the ''VideoGame/BrainAge''.
* OffhandBackhand: To Pandora which doubles as an EstablishingCharacterMoment.
* OnlySaneMan: He tries to come off as one compared to everyone else. However...
* ParodySue: He's an edgy, brooding PaletteSwap of Pit who claims to be his inner darkness personified, has all his powers, and can fly without divine intervention. He has all the makings of a VillainSue from an uninspired fanfic... [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall and the rest of the cast know it]], [[NoRespectGuy and mercilessly mock him for it]]. In part due to how the original Pit is already a {{Cloudcuckoolander}} that [[IncorruptiblePurePureness doesn't have an evil bone in his body]], Dark Pit eventually realizes he isn't actually ''evil'', just slightly more sarcastic than the other characters (which admittedly is [[WorldOfSnark a lot]]), and so he begrudgingly ends up becoming a good guy. And to add insult to injury, he was only able to fly because Pandora was possessing his wings, so as soon as she ditches him, [[RedemptionDemotion he can't do anything that Pit can't already do]].
* OurClonesAreDifferent: Dark Pit is a clone of [[TheHero Pit]] created by [[MagicMirror the Mirror of Truth]], appearing identical to the original Pit but with black hair and clothes. He starts out with his own personality (that of a {{Tsundere}}) and is fully aware of the fact that he is not Pit, but this doesn't stop him from [[CloneAngst angsting over his clone status]]. In fact, the core of his CharacterDevelopment is him realizing that he does not need to try to be his own person, he's [[ClonesArePeopleToo already there]].
* PunnyName:
** Pit -> Pittoo (Pit Two).
** "Pittoo" is onomatopoeia for the sound of someone spitting, which makes his EmbarrassingNickname more insulting than other versions. Hades exaggerates it into the downright childish "Pitooey" ([[PunnyName which is also]] a logical extension of Hades calling Pit "Pitty").
* RecurringBoss: Fought four times throughout the game, and his chapter has five different scenarios with two randomly selected each time you play plus the final time in center stage.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: As Pit's EvilTwin, he has the evil red eyes. He's a better guy following his HeelFaceTurn, but you should still take warning.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Pit's red. Dark Pit's much less likely to raise his voice and much more likely to keep his cool, provided he doesn't take something as a direct insult.
* RefugeInAudacity: He will mouth off to anyone, no matter how powerful they are or how inadvisable it may be, even responding to Medusa's attempt at recruiting him by bluntly insulting her and targeting her forces, leaving the goddess perplexed and annoyed. Later on, he enrages Viridi by telling her that the ones to blame for the world's imbalance are not the humans, but gods like her with their constant wars.
* ReverseGrip: When separating his bow into twin blades, he tends to hold one in this position, just like Pit.
* ShadowArchetype: Of Pit. As he explains to Pit in much detail. He claims to be Pit's dissatisfaction with Palutena, though his actions and other events throughout the chapters suggest he is Pit's dissatisfaction with ''himself''.
* SixthRangerTraitor: He was intended to be an EvilKnockoff of Pit that works for the Underworld Army, but he defected right after he was created and eventually goes on to aid Palutena's forces.
* SniperDuel: In Chapter 6, if he ends up on top of the mountain, he'll take pot shots at Pit, who can return fire while climbing.
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: The Straight Man to Pit's Wise Guy.
* {{Synchronization}}: During the penultimate story arc, Dark Pit alludes to suffering a FateWorseThanDeath because Pit was trapped in the ring, but doesn't go into much detail; they also share a dramatic speech that may be a case of TwinTelepathy.
* TurnedAgainstTheirMasters: The very first thing he did upon creation was deliver an OffhandBackhand to Pandora and help Pit take her down. Palutena theorizes that he turned on the Underworld Army because Pit smashed the Mirror of Truth before he was completed.
* {{Tsundere}}: The Japanese version of the game aims for Dark Pit being a Type A instead of the lone wolf that he is portrayed as in the English version.
* TsurimeEyes: As a foil to Pit, and they highlight his brash, cocky and impulsive nature.
* TwinTelepathy: During certain portions of the game, he and Pit seem to be able to connect at certain points. Viridi even comments on it.
* WeaponSpecialization: He uses a small selection of weapons, but the two most prominent are the Silver Bow and the Dark Pit Staff.
* WhenHeSmiles: Briefly in the aftermath Chapter 21, and during the ending of ''Uprising''. He also smiles whether he wins or [[GracefulLoser loses in "Light versus Dark"]].
* WildCard: And damn proud of it. He's unpredictable to the point you don't know who he'll side with until [[HeelFaceTurn he officially sides with Pit later on in the game]]. ''Smash 4'' reveals that he currently works for the Forces of Nature post-''Uprising'', though as he states "Viridi's interests and mine just happen to overlap", this is likely a temporary arrangement.
* WingedHumanoid: He's an angel, so it's to be expected.
* WingsDoNothing: Averted at first. Absorbing Pandora's power allowed Dark Pit to fly on his own. He loses this power in Ch 22 when the Rewind Spring revives her.
* WouldHitAGirl: Especially if she is Pandora.

-->''"My name's Magnus, by the way. Don't hit me, and we'll get along just fine."''

The most powerful human warrior of all. As a member of a roaming mercenary group, he has triumphed in countless brutal missions.
----
* AntiHero: In that he's OnlyInItForTheMoney. That being said, he's far more heroic than the standard AntiHero.
* BadassNormal: He's a human warrior who can face off against supernatural foes with nothing but his sword. Naturally, this is constantly lampshaded.
* {{BFS}}: It's so big that Pit's version of the weapon is classified as a Magnus ''Club''.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Averted. Magnus expresses no awareness of the medium, and is even LockedOutOfTheLoop when Pit and Palutena are simply talking to each other.
* BrutalHonesty: Magnus doesn't pull punches nor minces words. If he's got something to say, he'll say it flat out.
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: Magnus is a burly mercenary who wields a massive sword that is only slightly smaller than his own body. His aggressive fighting style reflects his personality, as he rudely insults Pit and Palutena even as the two help him fight against the Underworld Army.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: He's only a baseline human, but able to beat down and overpower the Underworld forces by himself.
* CloseRangeCombatant: He attacks solely with melee attacks seeing as how he lacks the ability to shoot projectiles with his weapon.
* CrusadingWidower: It is mentioned by Palutena and his idol description that he had lost a child to the Underworld Forces. He doesn't talk about it much, if at all.
* DeadpanSnarker: Has his moments.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: This memorable line in Ch 2.
-->'''Magnus''': Hey, if you're chatting with your precious goddess, give her a message from me. Tell her she's been sleeping on the job! My world is on the edge of collapse.
* DualBoss: With Gaol in chapter 24.
* DubNameChange: From "Magna" in the Japanese version. Justified, Magna is the ''feminine'' form of the word in Latin.
* {{Expy}}: His whole chapter and involvement with Gaol is a WholePlotReference to ''{{Manga/Berserk}}'', which would cast him as [[Characters/BerserkGuts Guts]]. Both men are {{anti hero}}es and are mercenaries who are battling an old, androgynous friend who has become a demon working for the main villain of their respective franchise. In addition both are the WorldsStrongestMan of their respective stories and use a BFS that can cleave many powerful enemies in half with ease.
* {{Foil}}: Serves as one to Pit. Both are skilled warriors, but unlike Pit, who [[HotBlooded charges into battle with guns ablazing]], Magnus handles situations with a more tactical approach.
* FriendlyRivalry: With Gaol, according to the Magnus & Gaol idol.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: It's implied that he goes off living the mercenary life whenever you're not with him.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Sure, he claims to be OnlyInItForTheMoney and doesn't act very polite, but he genuinely cares about other people and is open to the idea of working together with Pit.
* {{Leitmotif}}: A surprisingly heroic one for a blatant AntiHero.
* LightningBruiser: Though he's slightly slower than Pit, he can still move pretty fast. He's also strong enough to take on Underworld monsters and Palutena's Army by himself.
* ManlyMan: Deep voice, gruff exterior, muscles, and he's a mercenary to boot.
* MeaningfulName: Magnus is Latin for "great" or "powerful", which characterizes his role as the strongest human warrior quite nicely.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: Magnus objects to the notion of Pit taking off his pants to enjoy a hotspring while the latter is possessing the former.
* {{Naytheist}}: While working with Pit in Chapter 2, he tells Pit to let Palutena know that she's slacking off and his world is on the brink of collapse because of it.
* {{Nerf}}: His sword lacks the charged shot that Pit can get (as a club). This means you're forced to fight enemies in close-combat while you're controlling him. The normally wimpy Centurions can be the death of you in the highest difficulties.
* PeoplePuppet: Becomes one briefly in chapter 18 when Pit takes control of him.
* PermaStubble: In ancient Greece the fashion tended to be full beard or no facial hair at all, so naturally Magnus went with a shave that leaves just enough hair to let people know he can grow a beard. Despite being a mercenary fighting against an increasing number of factions at once, his trim is the same each time he is seen.
* PunchClockHero: He outright states that he does what he does for money. That said, he's still a pretty cool guy.
* SpannerInTheWorks: If he hadn't found that ring after the dog dropped it, the Chaos Kin would've won.
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: The straight man to Pit's wise guy.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Magnus doesn't just have dark hair either, he's one of the few brown skinned characters in the series.
* TattooedCrook: Has red tattoos on his right arm.
* TooManyBelts: He has three around his chest, and three on each leg.
* WeaponAcrossTheShoulder: His default pose.
* WhamLine: In regards to Pit who thinks he blacked out after the Aurum invasion and admits it feels like he and Magnus fought together "yesterday."
-->'''Magnus''': Yesterday?! Try ''THREE YEARS'', buddy!
* WhatMeasureIsAMook: Magnus is quite annoyed when Pit complains about fighting Centurions, and argues there are so many of them that nobody will notice if a few go missing.
* WorldsStrongestMan: Strongest human warrior in the world.

!!Nurse
[[quoteright:165:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nursefromkidicarus_6826.jpg]]

The Nurse from the Hospital who removes the Eggplant Curse.
----
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Since the Eggplant Wizard's curse is reduced to a temporary status effect in ''Uprising,'' there isn't much need for her. Pit and Palutena mention her and the hospital in Chapter 4 of ''Uprising'', but then Palutena mentions she's not in ''Uprising'' and that Palutena's powers will heal Pit instead.
* FlatCharacter: She has no dialog beyond telling you she will remove the eggplant curse.
* TheMedic: In the fortresses.
* WhiteMagic: The only explanation as to how she can get rid of the eggplant curse.

-->''"Look for a hidden door above this stage's entrance."''

Gives out information information and teaches Pit new things in the Information Center.
----
* AerithAndBob: Does Don sound remotely Greek to you?
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Is not so much as mentioned in ''Kid Icarus Uprising''. As Palutena and Viridi can give Pit tips at almost anytime telepathically, he'd likely have to be reworked to be good for anything anyway.
* FlatCharacter: Only serves to give out tips to the player.
* NonstandardCharacterDesign: He looks more like a modern day hunter.

[[folder:The Little Girl]]
!!The Little Girl
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/girlart.png]]
A small child who lives in one of the human towns.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: Both in spite and because of her (literally) vanishingly small presence, the little girl is quite the mystery. Why is this girl playing by herself idly in the fields only a short walk from an active battle zone? Why does this girl have no conscious interaction with Pit while he's wearing the ring? Does her resemblance to the girl from Hades' fake wish in Chapter 10 mean anything? Why did she vanish instantly after dropping the ring?
* EmptyShell: Downplayed, and only apparent in hindsight. While Pit is in the ring, he's able to have extended conversations with Magnus and is heavily influenced by the instincts of the dog when the ring is in their possession... but he has no interaction with the mind of the little girl in the slightest.
* GirlishPigtails: She's a brunette with pigtails, very similar to the subject of Hades' fake wish.
* GrandTheftMe: A rare case where it's done by the hero of the story; the little girl happens upon the ring containing Pit's mind, which inadvertently gives him control of her body.
* ParentalAbandonment: If she ''is'' in fact the girl in Hades' pretend wish, they were allegedly run over by Hades by accident, although it's unclear if that actually did happen.
* SongsOfSolace: Her theme.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Her playfulness and curiosity ultimately lead to the downfall of The Chaos Kin.
* StealthHiBye: After the ring is dropped, and the dog takes it, the girl literally disappears as soon as you turn around. Lampshaded by Pit.

[[folder:The Dog]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dog_3.jpg]]
Another inhabitant of the town attacked in Chapter 18. Loves to eat garbage in the town.
----
* AntiFrustrationFeatures: Can sprint nigh indefinitely, to make up for the Little Girl's slow pace.
* BeneathSuspicion: While The Chaos Kin ultimately plans to torment all life, humanity and the forces of the underworld are its first priority targets, dogs not yet being worth its time...
* ExtremeOmnivore: It eats garbage. Gets taken to the point that when you move too close to the garbage pail, the dog will automatically move towards it, even if you try to pull away.
* GrandTheftMe: Along with the little girl by Pit in Chapter 18.
* IHaveManyNames: The dog's Idol description states that every human it runs into assigns it another name.

!!The Chariot Master
!!!Voiced by: Creator/HochuOtsuka (JP), Creator/AlanOppenheimer (EN)
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Character_chariotm_6868.png]]

A mysterious figure who is the owner of the Lightning Chariot.
----
* AlasPoorVillain: While villain is a stretch, his death is treated as this. Both Pit and Viridi felt it was completely pointless and both regret it had to come to that.
* AmbiguousSituation: He has some deliberately unexplained vehicles of the gods laying around the tower. It could be because he's possibly a god or it could be because he's a gearhead. When confronted, he avoids the question.
* AntiVillain: He really does nothing villainous, but Pit still has to defeat him to get the Lightning Chariot.
* TheCynic: He responds to Pit's statement that he fights for Palutena and the people under her protection as noble, but foolish, and claims that an angel should fight for better reasons.
* DeathSeeker: Hinted at during his level and BossFight, and confirmed shortly afterwards.
* TheDisembodied: Stated by both him and his Idol description. His body has long been destroyed, and the only thing keeping him going is the fact that he follows the soldier's path in death.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: If he has a name beyond the Chariot Master, it's never been revealed.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: He dies peacefully and without regret after Pit defeats him.
* GracefulLoser: Takes his defeat and imminent demise quite well, possibly because [[DeathSeeker he wanted it this way.]]
* HighSpeedBattle: His BossFight consists of Pit and the Chariot Master chasing each other on separate chariots.
* IHaveManyNames; Said almost verbatim during his introduction.
-->'''Chariot Master:''' I've had many names in my life, but now I am called the Chariot Master.
* TheLastDance: He knows he's old and his final battle will be his last, so he gives it his all when he fights Pit. After he's beaten, he's content with the outcome.
* LastOfHisKind: He mentions during the fight that his master and all his comrades have long this passed on while he remains, and he admits that their losses tore at him. The only that keeps him going are his steeds, Phos and Lux.
* NotSoAboveItAll: One test in his tower proves he's not above adding to [[ShoutOut/KidIcarusUprising the Shout-Outs page]].
-->'''Pit:''' Okay, so we've got rolling obstacles.\
'''Viridi:''' And don't forget the jump pads!\
'''Pit:''' This seems awfully familiar...\
'''Hades:''' I guess the Chariot Master has played ''VideoGame/DonkeyKong''.
* OnlySaneMan: He's basically the only calm and reasonable character onscreen, considering when Pit encounters him.
* PlayingWithFire: Primarily tosses fireballs at Pit.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: His refusal to hand over the Lightning Chariot and forcing Pit to climb the tower to confront him was to test Pit and see if he was worthy to wield it.
* ShadowArchetype: To Pit. While not remotely evil, his fate is one horrible way Pit's life in service to Palutena could turn out. He served his own master loyally for decades, but when his master was killed, he lost all will to live. Had Pit not saved Palutena he could have gone the same way.
* ShockAndAwe: Will occasionally call down lightning strikes.
* TheStoic: The most calm and levelheaded character in the game.

[[folder:The Great Sacred Treasure]]
!!The Great Sacred Treasure
A mech made by Dyntos to help Pit defeat Hades.
----
* AdaptiveAbility: It can change its form to adapt to damage.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Pit has to beat it in a boss battle before Dyntos lets him use it.
* ElementalPowers: Can [[BlowYouAway create tornadoes]], [[PlayingWithFire shoot fireballs]], and [[ShockAndAwe fire orbs of electricity.]]
* EleventhHourSuperpower: You only really use it for the FinalBoss.
* FinalBoss: Of the BossRush. Hades is skipped as the final battle takes up the entirety of the final chapter.
* GatlingGood: Its Pursuit Mode is equipped with a gatling turret.
* HumongousMecha: A flying one, at that.
* InstantAwesomeJustAddMecha: A TransformingMecha used to take on a PhysicalGod.
* LaserBlade: Uses one to slice Hades in half.
* LightningBruiser: Incredibly fast and very powerful.
* OneHitKO: Its ultimate attack can one-hit kill Pit and blast most of the arena during the battle against it. At the end of the final battle with Hades, you get to use it yourself to vaporize Hades once and for all.
* {{Orichalcum}}: What it's composed of, according to Dyntos.
* SecretAIMoves: Zigzagged. In its boss fight, it can pull off a multitude of attacks like shooting fireballs, creating tornadoes, firing orbs of electricity and the like. When playing as it, it only uses the light arrows and a fireball as its charged shot, but it also exhibits a number of TransformingMecha forms that didn't appear in battle.
* TransformingMecha: According to its idol description, it can change its form to adapt to damage. It has a "pursuit" mode, "mech armor" mode, and an "ultralight" mode.
* WalkingSpoiler: As it only shows up for the final two chapters.
