[[folder:Kamen Rider Double (Shotaro Hidari and Philip)]]
--> ''[[CharacterCatchphrase Now, count up your sins!]]''

Shotaro Hidari was the protege of the late great HardboiledDetective Sokichi Narumi. Philip is a mysterious boy possessing the True Gaia Memory and gifted with all the world's knowledge inside his head. Together, they [[SharingABody share a body]] as Double.

Shotaro was the protege of the private detective Sokichi Narumi. Upon the events of Begins Night he takes up on his mentor's mantle, solving Dopant cases. His Gaia Memories, featured on the left side of Double, grant Double a weapon or a fighting style. In the second movie, he takes on the mantle of Kamen Rider Joker after Philip is kidnapped, using a Lost Driver and the Joker Memory to transform. [[spoiler:He resumes the mantle of Kamen Rider Joker in the series finale upon Philip's disappearance.]]
----
!!! Tropes that apply to Shotaro in general
* ArcWords: "[[HardboiledDetective Hard-boiled]]", what with him being a private detective and all. It makes its way into his bike, the Machine [=HardBoilder=].
* AesopAmnesia: Slightly in ''Fuuto P.I.'', acting more like his old self prior to CharacterDevelopment. In fact, he even temporarily discarded his arsenal as Kamen Rider Double in chapter 4 when arguing with Philip, which predictably led to avoidable trouble.
** Similarly, his recklessness has caused Philip to ban Shotaro from using the Lost Driver, a stark contrast to what was shown in episode 48-49.
* BadassNormal: Aside from having the Double Driver and training in detective work, Shotaro is more or less a normal human being when not Double. [[spoiler:Which is why he can be affected in all manner of negative ways by the attacks of some Dopants such as Old and Terror, which both Philip and Terui can shrug off due to their "unique physiologies", as Shroud puts it.]]
** Carries over into his transformation as Kamen Rider Joker. Not only does he have no special powers or weapons outside of enhanced strength, [[AllThereInTheManual supplementary materials]] show that its base are lower than [[JackOfAllStats Double CycloneJoker]]. Doesn't stop him from kicking all kinds of ass with it.
** That said, it is explained that continued usage of W's Gaia Memories have slightly enhanced Shotaro's body, granting him more strength and stamina than an average person.
* BareFistedMonk: When using the Joker Memory in the Lost Driver to become Kamen Rider Joker.
* BerserkButton:
** Don't you dare make anyone cry in his presence. In particular, the sight of someone crying has lead him to do several reckless acts, even using [[spoiler:a [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique Twin Maximum Drive]] against the Weather Dopant]].
** The manga ''Fuuto P.I.'' shows him being sick of getting called "half-boiled" that ''any'' phrase with the prefix "half-" (like "half-hearted") gets on his nerves.
* CannotSpitItOut: He can't bring himself to tell Akiko about her father's death, nor can he tell a little girl [[spoiler:her father is in fact dead and not Double]]. TheMovie has Akiko finding out anyway, but she still wants Shotaro to openly say it to her. In the Director's Cut of the film, there's a new scene where Shotaro promises to sit down with Akiko and tell her everything about her father after they resolve the issue with the D[[spoiler:ummy]] Dopant.
* CantCatchUp: Shotaro gets this after [[spoiler:Philip's power boost from the Xtreme Memory. He does manage to get better, unlocking their SuperMode in the process]].
* CartwrightCurse: A non-lethal variation, but every single time he shows interest in a woman, she's either the MonsterOfTheWeek or simply doesn't notice.
* CharacterDevelopment: At the beginning of the series, Shotaro is much more shallow in attitude, as well as suffering unresolved guilt over Sokichi's death. By the end of "Movie War 2010" though, Shotaro has largely outgrown this, with Sokichi (A.R.) acknowledging him as a "true detective". In fact, after stopping Museum, he even managed to protect Futo City alone for an entire year as Kamen Rider Joker.
** On a more humorous note, he seems to have made some peace with his "half-boiledness", at least in the end of the original series.
* ChivalrousPervert: He's going to do ''nearly anything'' for a lady he fancies. Taken to its logical conclusion during the Invisible Dopant arc, wherein Lily Shirogane lands on Shotaro in an, er, compromising pose.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: A common recurring weakness of his, and a major reason others dub him "''Half''-boiled". Once he takes on someone as a client he will put his complete faith and trust in them in order to complete their request, regardless of their nature, which oftentimes has him being used as an accomplice for a crime or makes him look extremely naive in general. This often puts him at odds with the more skeptical Philip, who is able to look up their client's history and knows who they're better off avoiding.
** This effect is only compounded by Shotaro's ChivalrousPervert tendencies. If he is trying to help a woman, particularly if he is attracted to them personally (even when he ''knows'' their up to no good), he will often clash and argue with Phillip and try to resolve the matter on his own, which caused him to end up in dangerous situations with Marina [[spoiler: (The T-Rex Dopant)]] and Tokime.
* ExcellentJudgeOfCharacter: In ''Fuuto PI'', Philip remarks that Shotaro's TheHeart nature also makes him this, which pairs off well with Philip's logical analysis. Case in point, when one Dopant suspect had a shaky alibi, Shotaro trusted her, reasoning that someone willing to brave a snowstorm to help complete strangers wouldn't also become a Dopant to murder another acquaintance, atop the fact her fear and desperation were genuine.
** Even when Shotaro is being used by someone, more often than not it's because he has a personal interest in trying to help them rather than having any illusions about their character, such as Marina, Suzuko, and Tokime.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: Shotaro is among the few Rider protagonists that have been operating as a superhero prior to the beginning of the story.
* {{Expy}}: Of Shunsaku Kudo from ''Detective Story'', most obvious in their FedoraOfAsskicking. The staff even [[PropRecycling reused the desk Kudo had in his office]] for Shotaro's, just to complete the {{Homage}}.
* {{Fanboy}}: Of hard-boiled Creator/RaymondChandler detective novels, which he uses to cultivate his persona. Part of his EstablishingCharacterMoment is him reading ''Literature/TheLongGoodbye'', and Akiko at one point complains about him wasting money on novels.
* FedoraOfAsskicking: His SignatureHeadgear, worn to emulate his mentor.
* FinishingMove: As Kamen Rider Joker, Shotaro has two, arguably homages to Series/KamenRiderBlack:
** Joker 1: ''Rider Kick''[[note]]Joker jumps and kicks the Dopant.[[/note]]
** Joker 2: ''Rider Punch''[[note]]Joker delivers a powerful punch.[[/note]]
* HardboiledDetective: An interesting subversion. He tries to model himself after Sokichi, who was every bit the hard boiled detective of noir fame. In practice this tends to lead to him spouting lines that seem like they've come straight from a crime novel all while being a highly emotive person with levels of hamminess that could power a small city with the level of ham he brings out. It also makes him an extremely open and caring person. His being "half-boiled" is in reality due to his strengths as both a person and detective being combined with the lessons he's learned from Sokichi, bringing together the best elements of both of them.
* HasAType: In ''Fuuto PI'', Phillip tells Akiko that, unsurprisingly for a fan of the HardboiledDetective genre and an aspiring one himself, Shotaro's preferences lie in {{femme fatale}}s but at the same time knows such romances rarely, if ever, end well. This is what makes his initial reaction to Tokime joining the Narumi Detective Agency and her living in Shotaro's apartment seem agitated.
* TheHeart: It's his good heart that makes Philip ultimately reaffirm their partnership, [[spoiler:even after the events of the Beast arc]]. He also manages to transform Ryu Terui from a rage-powered man who hates Futo to a warrior on the side of love.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Phillip, at least by the end. They even call each other 'partner'.
* {{Homage}}: Kamen Rider Joker from TheMovie is one to Series/KamenRiderBlack, arguably.
* IDoNotLikeGreenEggsAndHam: Shotaro's reaction to the JidaiGeki ShowWithinAShow ''Kaze no Saheiji, Panic Revenger''.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: One of his biggest weaknesses. Shotaro has a strong need to prove himself and gain the respect of others, which indirectly contributed to Sokichi's death. By the end of the series though, Shotaro has eased up on this, acknowledging his own shortcomings to Akira as a means to encourage him.
* LargeHam: Look at his facial expressions. ''Look at them.''
* MasterOfNone: As Kamen Rider Joker.
* MeaningfulName: His surname literally means "left", and he's the left side of Double.
* MyGreatestFailure: Sokichi's death, which Shotaro thinks is his fault because he went against direct orders from the boss. Addressed quite directly when the dying Sokichi [[TakeUpMySword passing on his cool hat]]; Shotaro says he's not ready for it, to which Sokichi responds "Become a man worthy of wearing it." [[spoiler:In the penultimate episode, Shotaro pulls the hat off the wall and wears it when he confronts Kazu, showing that he's finally gotten past his guilt.]]
* NiceGuy: [[BewareTheNiceOnes Provided you don't piss him off]], Shotaro's behaviour in cases shows him to be an incredibly compassionate guy.
* PrivateDetective: Almost the HardboiledDetective variety.
* PrivateEyeMonologue: He has a penchant for these and usually ends up saying them out loud when he shouldn't. Every arc usually ends with one.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Phillip's blue
* RunningGag: His "Half-boiled" lifestyle, used to mock his self-proclaimed [[HardboiledDetective hard-boiled]] image.
* SmallNameBigEgo: A mild version; he's somewhat competent, just not as hardboiled as he tries to be.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Both to [[spoiler:Shroud]]'s plans, initially and later to Ryubee's. Ironically [[spoiler:Shroud]] would end up relying on Shotaro being this to Ryubee, calling him a WildCard. It's not all good, though; this trope does take a dark take when he [[spoiler:screws up his mentor's plan through rescuing Phillip, which eventually cost Narumi his life]].
* SupportingProtagonist: Shotaro is the lead protagonist of the series, being the one who actively investigates each case the agency takes on, but Phillip's CharacterDevelopment and MysteriousPast is what forms the series core plotline. This continues to be the case in ''Manga/FuutoPi'', where the primary focus is on Tokime and her connection with the other Fuuto and [[BigBad Yukiji Bando]].
* TheUnchosenOne:
** In Shroud's eyes. Being physically normal with no resistance to Gaia Memory effects, according to her Shotaro had never been the ideal partner for Philip, and had ''Ryu'' teamed up with Philip instead they could have unlocked Double's full potential as [=CycloneAccelXtreme=]. Nevertheless, being a BadassNormal allows Shotaro to prove more than his worth as ''Philip's chosen partner''.
** Subverted when he learns that T2 Gaia Memories choose their users; He quickly realises the hole blown through his office's roof was the T2 Joker Memory making its way to reach ''him'', promptly finds it crash-landed next to his desk, and acknowledges the fact that his WildCard tendencies had called the Memory to choose him.
* WideEyedIdealist: Despite modelling his persona off cynical HardBoiledDetective types, Shotaro is persistently fuelled by his idealistic belief in others. Interestingly, this is shown as neither an altogether positive nor negative trait, as it leads to him being manipulated or nearly killed by culprits on multiple occasions, but just as often is what proves pivotal to saving the day.
* YouWereTryingTooHard: It's pretty much been proven that whenever Shotaro stops trying so hard to emulate his mentor's "hard-boiled" attitude, he becomes far more awe-inspiring as a detective and hero.

[[quoteright:210:[[labelnote:Philip in ''Fuuto PI'']]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/philip_02.png]][[/labelnote]]

Philip is a mysterious boy, possessing the True Gaia Memory. He was rescued by Sokichi Narumi and Shotaro during the events of Begins Night. He aids Shotaro in solving Dopant cases by accessing the Gaia Library, allowing him to look up endless amounts of information. This ability also lends itself to his obsession with research. His Gaia Memories, on Double's right, grant him an elemental power, or in [=FangJoker's=] case, an upgrade. [[spoiler:Is kidnapped in TheMovie for NEVER's plans, yet Shotaro rescues him and the two defeat Kamen Rider Eternal. Later, Philip is revealed to have died twelve years prior to the series, being resurrected as an avatar of the Gaia Memory. Due to this and Ryubee initiating the Gaia Impact, which eventually failed, Philip slowly broke down into data, until a transformation into Double would make him disappear forever. However, Wakana eventually learns the truth, sacrificing her own body to provide a way for Philip to regenerate in the recreated Xtreme Memory.]]
----
!!! Tropes that appy to Philip in general
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: Phillip ends up being the only veteran character in ''VideoGame/KamenRiderMemoryOfHeroez'' to find [[Series/KamenRiderZeroOne Aruto]] to be kind of funny. He thinks the puns he tells are terrible, but in a so bad they're good kind of way.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Has green hair in ''Fuuto PI'' manga and anime.
* AmnesiacHero: Philip completely lacks any memory of who he was before Narumi and Shotaro rescued him, with any books in the True Gaia Memory relating to his past having their pages torn out. Finding out who he really is and why he has the True Gaia Memory forms the core mystery of the series.
* AttractiveBentGender: See DisguisedInDrag below.
* BigEater: Philip will do this for the sake of his research.
* CatchPhrase: "Fascinating!"[[note]]"Zokuzoku suru ne!"[[/note]], as well as "Bingo!" as a minor one.
* CuteBookworm: Shy? Not exactly. Vulnerable? Depends. Cute and brainy? Definitely. Also [[IncrediblyLamePun doubles]] as BadassBookworm.
* DeadlyUpgrade: [=FangJoker=] set Philip's mind on fire at first, despite it taking the protagonists two minutes after its television debut to get proper control over it.
* DisguisedInDrag: Except for his voice, he makes for a ''very convincing'' Wakana. Well, his clothing ''is'' marketed towards women... [[spoiler:It also helps that Philip and Wakana are siblings.]]
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Introduced when Akiko walks in on him going through information on the case, rudely dismissing her when she tries to talk to him, only for his attention to suddenly be drawn when she mentions takoyaki. Cut ahead a little, and we see Shotaro walking to find Philip obsessively going through ''every'' detail about takoyaki, having forgotten about the case he's supposed to be investigated entirely.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Philip develops a taste for... vinegar, after Akiko used it a couple of times on him as an all-purpose elixir.
* {{Expy}}: After he was revealed to be [[spoiler:DeadAllAlong who was revived through otherworldly means, he is also one to [[Series/KamenRiderRyuki Yui Kanzaki]]. However, unlike her, [[EarnYourHappyEnding he gets better after he's revived in the final episode]]]].
* GoGoEnslavement: In ''Forever A to Z'', when Phillip got captured by NEVER, they dressed him up in one of their uniforms.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Shotaro, at least by the end. They even call each other "partner"[[note]]"Aibou", a word also often used in ''Series/EngineSentaiGoOnger''[[/note]].
* HeroicRROD: [[spoiler:His body starts to disintegrate after the initial plan for Gaia Impact is ruined.]]
* ImmortalityBeginsAtTwenty: Delusion Diary #11 hints that Philip will forever remain seventeen years old because [[spoiler:he's composed of the Earth's data.]]
* ImprobableHairstyle: Very noticeble in episode 16. His hair looks messy after taking off his motorcycle helmet, but in the next shot it's as perfect as always.
* InstantExpert: Every now and then the data Phillip searches for will stick in his head for a while.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: He's 17, while Shotaro and Akiko are in their 20s.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: In contrast to [[NiceGuy Shotaro]], Philip is abrasive and not entirely pleasant to be around, but he is a good guy at heart.
* LiteralMinded[=/=]NoSocialSkills: He often doesn't understand slangs, metaphors and social cues, often pondering hard and long over why people act the way they do, or in the case of slangs and metaphors, searches them up to varying levels of interest or disappointment over their apparent meanings.
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:His real name is ''Raito'' Sonozaki, and he's the ''right'' side of Double]]. His name also references Literature/PhilipMarlowe.
* OfCorpseHesAlive: Whenever his mind is in Double's body, Philip is unconscious, so his lifeless body is a sitting duck. In episode 7, nobody tried to interact with them, but Akiko had to make-believe they were napping sweethearts, so as not to draw attention on the bus.
* PhlebotinumBreakdown: [[spoiler:After the failed Gaia Impact, Philip's body is returning to data, hastened by transformation.]]
* PreAsskickingOneLiner: "How thrilling!"
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Shotaro's red.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: The Cyclone Memory comes with the iconic scarf, known as the Windy Stabilizer [[AllThereInTheManual according to supplementary materials]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: His name is spelt as "Philippe" in the aura that surrounds his body when he enters the Gaia Library, but now Toei seems to have gone with Philip.
* TouchedByVorlons: [[spoiler:His encounter with the Xtreme Memory gave him a huge power boost that Shotaro can't keep up with. Not to mention that he died as a child and the "green light" of the True Gaia Memory revived him, along with the ability to access the Gaia Library.]]

!!! Tropes exclusive to them as Kamen Rider Double
!!!'''Portrayed by:''' Seiji Takaiwa
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr_w_cyclonejoker_5.png]]
[[caption-width-right:210:Cyclone, Joker!]]
* AllYourColorsCombined: As its name implies, the Prism Memory enables this.
* AllYourPowersCombined: [[SuperMode CycloneJokerXtreme's]] Prism Bicker combines the power of the Cyclone, Heat, Luna, and Joker or Metal Memories to deliver a very potent Maximum Drive.
* TheBerserker: [=FangJoker=] was this during its first two uses, due to Philip's difficulty in controlling it.
* BizarreAndImprobableBallistics: The [=LunaTrigger=] form fires bullets that do not just home in on the target, but can also travel in curves as Double wants. It might as well be firing bullet-shaped explosive bees...
* BlowYouAway: The Cyclone Memory.
* BodyHorror: Most of Double's Joker-Based finishers involve his body ''splitting in two''. '''Vertically'''.
* BrokenRecord: [[spoiler:The result of Shotaro trying to use a [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique Twin Maximum Drive]] the first time around.]]
-->[[spoiler:MAXIMUM DRIVE MAXIMUM DRIVE MAXIMUM DRIVE MAXIMUM DRIVE MAXIMUM DRI-]]
* CallingYourAttacks:
** All of Double's [[FinishingMove Memory Breaks]], as their two halves must be in sync to use one. Shotaro [[InvokedTrope makes up the names himself]], and Philip indulges him to allow his partner some fun. May be justified, as speaking in unison is a good first step to mental synch.
** Averted with [=CycloneJokerXtreme=]'s Memory Breaks. At first.
* CatchPhrase: Shotaro and Philip share not one, not two, but ''three'' of them:
** "We are two detectives in one."[[note]]''"Boku-tachi wa, futari de, hitori no tantei sa."''[[/note]]
** "We are two Kamen Riders in one."[[note]]''"Boku-tachi wa, futari de, hitori no Kamen Raida da."''[[/note]]
** "Now, count up your sins!"[[note]]''"Saa, omae no tsumi wo kazoero!"''[[/note]]
* CharacterTics: Double flicks their left wrist, a contrast as to how [[Series/KamenRider555 Takumi]] flicks his right arm.
* CoolBike: Double's [=HardBoilder=]. And like its owner, it can switch out the back half, forming either the [=HardTurbular=] hoverbike or the [=HardSplasher=] watercraft.
* ElementalPowers: Philip's Gaia Memories allow access to BlowYouAway, PlayingWithFire and {{Lunacy}}.
* ExplosiveOverclocking: Episode 27/28's Twin Maximum Drive. The effects of one person alone trying it makes its usage take on shades of HeroicRROD as well.
* FinishingMove: Several, all called Maximum Drives or Memory Breaks.
** Joker Forms: With the exception of [=FangJoker=], forms using the Joker Memory involve Double's [[DetachmentCombat body separating]].
*** [=CycloneJoker=]: ''Joker Extreme''[[note]]Double splits in half, then the Joker and Cyclone halves kick the target consecutively.[[/note]]
*** [=HeatJoker=]: ''Joker Grenade''[[note]]Double splits in half and delivers a jumping, flaming punch with the Heat and Joker halves consecutively.[[/note]]
*** [=LunaJoker=]: ''Joker Strange''[[note]]Double splits in half, then the Luna half makes four copies of itself that unleash countless chops on the enemy before the Joker half delivers a powerful karate chop.[[/note]]
*** [=FangJoker=]: ''Fang [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Streiser/Streizer/Strider]]''[[note]]Upon activation, the Fang Blade appears on the right ankle. Double leaps into the air and does a HurricaneKick.[[/note]]
** Metal Forms: Most Metal Maximum Drives involve empowering the Metalshaft with an element.
*** [=CycloneMetal=]: ''Metal Twister''[[note]]Spins the Metalshaft, [[RazorWind releasing powerful winds to strike at close-range]]. Changes to a pincer attack called ''Metal Stag Break'' when the Stag Phone is attached to the Metalshaft.[[/note]]
*** [=HeatMetal=]: ''Metal Branding''[[note]]The tips of the Metalshaft ignite, and Double smashes it into the enemy with an explosion.[[/note]]
*** [=LunaMetal=]: ''Metal Illusion''[[note]]Double spins the Metalshaft around to produce RingsOfDeath that hit the enemy, then they all converge for one last blow.[[/note]]
** Trigger Forms: Most Trigger Maximum Drives involve empowering the Triggermagnum's shots with an element. After inserting the Memory, they close the front end to deliver the Maximum Drive.
*** [=CycloneTrigger=] (Cyclone Memory): ''Trigger Aerobuster''[[note]]Double fires a series of blasts of pressurized air from the Triggermagnum.[[/note]]
*** [=CycloneTrigger=] (Trigger Memory): ''Trigger Storm Bomb''[[note]]Double fires a single shot on the ground which then erupts into a green tornado, hitting enemies in the sky. Changes to a powerful condensed focused shot called ''Trigger Bat Shooting'' when the Bat Shot is attached as a scope to the Triggermagnum.[[/note]]
*** [=HeatTrigger=]: ''Trigger Explosion''[[note]]The Triggermagnum fires a laser beam like flame shot, frying the target. When both Memories are used for a Twin Maximum Drive, it changes to ''[=HeatTrigger=] Supernova'' (with the Double Driver repeatedly spouts "'''MAXIMUM DRIVE'''") which is more powerful but makes Double catch fire, seriously injuring Double's body.[[/note]]
*** [=LunaTrigger=]: ''Trigger Full Burst''[[note]][[BeamSpam A massive barrage of homing shots from the Triggermagnum]]. Changes to a double pincer ray called ''Trigger Stag Burst'' when the Stag Phone Memory Gadget is attached to the gun.[[/note]]
** [=CycloneJokerXtreme=]: This form has a total of five finishing moves.
*** ''Double Xtreme'': A tornado, larger than the one used by [=CycloneJoker=], lifts Double into the sky and speeds them towards the foe.
*** ''Prism Break'': A slash from the Prism Sword.
*** ''Bicker Charge Break'': A slash from the Prism Sword after being charged up by the Bicker Shield using a combo of four Memories such as Cyclone, Heat, Luna, and Joker.
*** ''Bicker Finallusion'': A laser blast from the Prism Bicker with the Cyclone, Heat, Luna, and Joker Memories. A variation with the Metal Memory replacing the Joker Memory creates a laser shield that protects against powerful attacks.
*** ''Double Prism Xtreme'': A Twin Maximum Drive with the Prism Memory in the Maximum Slot; a bicycle kick.
** [=CycloneJokerGoldXtreme=]: ''Golden Xtreme''[[note]]An enhanced version of the ''Double Xtreme''.[[/note]]
** A couple of other Maximum Drives without names have been performed with the Memory Gadgets.
*** Stag Phone with Heat Memory: Engulfs the Stag Phone in fire.
*** Bat Shot with Luna Memory: Sets off a series of flash bulb bursts that disorient the target.
* FusionDance:
** It's not really two people fusing into one, but more like the soul of one person goes into the other's body. So there's a limp body that needs protecting.
** Played straight when Double's [=CycloneJokerXtreme=] form fuses both Shotaro's and Philip's bodies together.
* GivingSomeoneThePointerFinger: Before the beatdown.
* TheGunslinger: Double is this with the Triggermagnum when Shotaro as the body uses the Trigger Memory.
* IncendiaryExponent: The Heat Memory can ignite [=HeatJoker's=] right fist or the Metalshaft as [=HeatMetal=] for the Memory Break.
* InstantExpert: A variation. [=CycloneJokerXtreme=] gives them access to the Gaia Library while assuming the form allowing them to research the memory in question and its weaknesses on the spot. Most fights with this form end quickly as they know everything they need to know, it's just a matter of executing it.
* {{Lunacy}}: The Luna Memory; [[invoked]] WordOfGod gives its power as "Illusions", but it seems that stretching is the primary manifestation of this power. See the main entry for more information.
* MorphWeapon: The Metalshaft as [=LunaMetal=] can become a whip.
* PlayingWithFire: The Heat Memory.
* PowerGivesYouWings: [=CycloneJokerGoldXtreme=] from TheMovie, which [[MythologyGag bears a resemblance]] to [[Series/KamenRiderBlade Blade's Jack Form]].
* RazorWind: [=CycloneMetal=] can execute these with the Metalshaft even without using a Memory Break.
* RubberMan: [=LunaJoker=] can stretch his right limbs.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: The Windy Stabilizer, when assuming a form that uses the Cyclone Memory.
* SpecialAbilityShield: Kamen Rider Double Extreme's Bicker Shield can store the Prism Sword (and together they are called the Prism Bicker) and 4 additional Gaia Memories, which [[AllYourPowersCombined have their powers combined]] for the FinishingMove.
* SpectacularSpinning:
** Episode 8. It's not called Heaven's Tornado for nothing.
** [=FangJoker=]'s rider kick.
** [=CycloneMetal's=] FinishingMove.
* SpotlightStealingSquad:
** The Heat Memory is probably the most used memory of all, not just within the three (four if you count Fang) Philip uses.
** Shotaro prefers the Joker Memory the most.
* TelescopingStaff: Double is equipped with the Metalshaft when Shotaro as the body uses the Metal Memory. It starts off compressed attached to the back of the Metal Half Body, it then extends when wielded.
* ThemeMusicPowerUp: Every time Double transforms.
* WillfullyWeak: ''Manga/FuutoPI'' reveals that Double's finishers originally ''weren't'' [[NonLethalKO Memory Breaks]] and actually killed the opponent, which led to Shotaro often choosing to let Dopants escape instead of killing them. Phillip was able to get around this by modifying the way a Maximum Drive worked so that finishers only destroyed the Memory, which necessitated both halves of Double to split apart and perform the move in sync.
* WindIsGreen: The Cyclone Memory is green, and besides the name gives some wind-related abilities when in use.

[[quoteright:210:[[labelnote:Akiko in ''Fuuto PI'']]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/narumi_akiko.png]][[/labelnote]]

Akiko is the Boss's daughter, coming in to replace her father. As Shotaro's landlady she proclaims herself as the Chief of the Narumi Detective Agency, specializing in Dopant cases.
----
* ArmedLegs: Played for laughs with her slipper.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Episode 32 has her genuinely worried about Shotaro as he goes through his HeroicBSOD, which even leads to her calling out Philip for thinking about abandoning him as a partner and disregarding his feelings, showing that despite her constant annoyance with Shotaro, she really does care about him.
* BabiesEverAfter: By the events of the [[Series/KamenRiderDrive Chaser special]], she and Ryū have a daughter named Haruna.
* BerserkButton: Akiko will cop to the beautiful part, but she's no middle-schooler!
* BigEater: Can wolf down enormous quantities of sweets
* BigNo: After giving word of her treat to two men [[BigEater whose appetite she knows nothing about]].
* CatchPhrase: "No one told me about this~!"[[note]]''Atashi kiitenai~!''[[/note]]
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: She as actually quite the competent detective when the chips are down.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: [[spoiler:Slipper-slaps ''Clay Doll'' Dopant, just after the latter's upgrade process.]]
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler:Subverted for a while in Accel's V Cinema. She got better afterwards.]]
* IconicItem: Her slipper.
* TheIdiotFromOsaka: Has shades of this, given her quite black and white view of the world, but she does keep Shotaro focused on the case.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Even though she's mostly a goofy and earnest girl, some of her father sometimes shines through in her personality. Shotaro even sees her as her father momentarily in Episode 10, where she [[BadassNormal smashes a chair into the Sweets Dopant]] she'd previously been terrified to tears of because it made the mistake of trying to attack her client.
-->'''Akiko''': Don't lay a finger on my client!
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: One that Shotaro doesn't want in his life.
* TheNapoleon: Don't call her a middle-schooler (but she'll gladly be called beautiful).
* OlderThanTheyLook: Shotaro often calls her a middle school student, but Akiko is 20 years old.
** By the time of Girls Remix, Akiko looks significantly more mature but still looks younger than one would expect of a 30 something married woman with a child.
* OfficialCouple: With Ryu.
* ShoeSlap: Akiko's [[PaperFanOfDoom slipper-slap]] acts as a DopeSlap (on Shotaro [[labelnote:*]]not that he's an idiot... he just [[LargeHam tends]] to [[PrivateEyeMonologue sidetrack]].[[/labelnote]]), as a GetAHoldOfYourselfMan (on Philip in episode 4), then finally gets played straight (used on [[spoiler:Wakana as Claydoll Dopant]]).
** In Ep. 14, Shotaro gets payback by hitting her with her own slipper.
** In a more meta example, she combines the slipper slap with PercussiveMaintenance in the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsLvr_jo-Zk&fmt=18 music video]] for the opening theme song. The results are bizarre, to say the least.
** Durning her dream in the Nightmare arc, her slipper serves as [=CycloneJoker's=] primary weapon, and she beats the crap out of the Nightmare Dopant with it (or tries to, at least).
** And she manages to outdo herself yet again in episode 40 by slapping Wakana in her Claydoll form [[spoiler:who had just received the Gaia Progressor]].
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: Her relationship with her father was like this when she was a child, with Akiko becoming upset that he was too busy to visit her, including on her birthday (though she wasn't aware at the time that he was a Kamen Rider.) This almost became a point of contention with her and Ryu during their wedding, afraid that him being a Kamen Rider would keep him away from spending time with her, and during their early married life in the ''Accel V-Cinema'' when it almost did, but thankfully, by the time they have a daughter during the events of ''Series/KamenRiderDrive'', this is completely averted in their daughter's case.

[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/296610_100766783365277_100002958662990_2782_731213367_n.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:210:The Hard-Boiled Detective]]
Sokichi Narumi was Shotaro's boss, who taught the young man the trade of a PrivateDetective. During a mission to liberate a young man he dubbed Philip, he was shot to death. The events of ''[[TheMovie Movie Wars 2010]]'' reveal that he was Kamen Rider Skull, while ''Movie Wars CORE'' is a WholeEpisodeFlashback showing him as Skull Crystal ten years before the ''Double'' TV series.
----
!!!Tropes that apply to him in general
* TheAce: Sokichi is the embodiment of Shotaro's ideal image of the hard-boiled detective; stoic, strong, intelligent, and suave. [[spoiler:Even Saeko Sonozaki, one of Museum's top lieutenants and user of the gold Taboo Memory was intimidated by him even ''before'' he transformed, with her in Dopant form no less.]]
* TheAtoner: He counts up his own crimes.
-->'''Sokichi''': [[spoiler:First, I wasn't able to reveal the darkness within a friend who's always close to me. Second, I hesistated for a while in combat. Third, because I did these things, the city cries.]]
* TheCastShowOff: Koji Kikkawa sings his own theme song.
* CoolOldGuy: Well, not THAT old, but you get the point.
* DaddyHadAGoodReasonForAbandoningYou: Well, "[[spoiler:if Daddy ever touches you again you'll explode]]" probably qualifies for a darn good reason.
* DeathByOriginStory: He dies in the ColdOpen of the first episode.
* FedoraOfAsskicking: He wears one and [[TakeUpMySword passes it on to Shotaro when he dies]]. He also insists that wearing one of these is something one has to be ''worthy'' of.
* GoodIsNotNice: Sokichi unlike Shotaro was notably less hesitant to use lethal force especially against guys that had done horrific things with the memories. [[spoiler:He kills his former partner because he'd commited mass murder and personally made it so Sokichi could never touch Akiko again, and he very deliberately does not save the Bat Dopant either when she's pinned to her truck which is bursting into flames because she started the problem in the first place. Despite her begging him for help he refuses and walks away as the truck explodes with her with it.]]
* HardboiledDetective: So much so that he's inspired Shotaro to try to be one.
* HardTruthAesop: [[spoiler: His core philosophy; nobody in the world is perfect, and it's okay for them to fail and make mistakes. Hearing this is what allows Shotaro to finally start moving on from his guilt concerning his mentor's death.]]
* MentorOccupationalHazard: He even gets to die in TheHero's arms.
* NoOntologicalInertia: Possibly the only aversion in all of tokusatsu. For once, defeating the monster does ''not'' remove its curse [[spoiler:so he can never see his daughter again]].
* NotSoStoic: [[spoiler:The Chief is revealed to have a half-boiled side in episode 32.]]
* PosthumousCharacter: He bites it at the very beginning of the first episode, and his character is fleshed out through flashbacks, mostly in the movies.
* [[invoked]] TooCoolToLive: The few times we see him in action, he's everything Shotaro wants to be: smooth, stylish, intelligent, a badass, and a pretty cool Kamen Rider to boot. So of course he died.
* TouchOfDeath: [[spoiler:Thanks to the Spider Dopant, he can never touch Akiko or she will explode - thus explaining his long absence from his daughter's life.]]

!!!Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Skull
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr_skull.png]]
[[caption-width-right:210:Skull!]]
%%* BadassBiker: OH YEAH!
* CoolBike: The [=SkullBoilder=], which is an [[PaintItBlack black version]] of the [=HardBoilder=].
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite his ''Manga/SkullMan'' homage, Sokichi is firmly a heroic figure.
* FinishingMove:
** ''Skull Punisher''[[note]]A Rider Shooting attack using the Skull Magnum.[[/note]]
** An unnamed Rider Kick executed with the Skull Memory in the Maximum Slot, which creates an energy skull that Sokichi kicks towards the Dopant[[note]]''Ganbaride'' simply calls this move "Hissatsu Kick", while other sources refer to it as 'Skull Banisher'.[[/note]].
*** Not to mention, the Skull summoned by [[Series/KamenRiderDecade Diend Complete Form]] in ''[[Series/KamenRiderDenO Chou Den-O Trilogy: Episode Yellow]]'' performs a Rider Kick that more closely resembles the Joker Extreme.
* {{Homage}}: His design and urban legend nickname are both homages to Shotaro Ishinomori's proto-Kamen Rider ''Manga/SkullMan''.
* SuperPrototype: Skull is the prototype for Double, best illustrated by its being a jack-of-all-trades combination of Shotaro's Memories ([[BarefistedMonk melee brawler like Joker,]] good defense like Metal, TheGunslinger like Trigger).

!!Ryu Terui/Kamen Rider Accel
!!!'''Portrayed by:''' Minehiro Kinomoto (live), Eitoku (suit), Creator/MakotoFurukawa (voice), Fábio Lucindo (voice, Portuguese dub)
[[quoteright:168:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryukun_7267.png]]
[[caption-width-right:168:Police Superintendent of Futo PD]]
[[quoteright:210:[[labelnote:Ryu in ''Fuuto PI'']]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/terui_ryu.png]][[/labelnote]]

Ryu Terui is a police superintendent assigned to the Futo Police Department's Paranormal Crime Investigation Division, and is thus Jinno and Makura's superior. His family was murdered by a man with a W memory, giving him a motivation to exact revenge. When he meets up with the enigmatic Shroud, she gives him his gear, allowing him to transform into Kamen Rider Accel.
----
!!!Tropes that apply to him in general
* AffectionateNickname: Initially because she insisted she was the Chief of the Narumi Detective Agency, Ryu respectfully called Akiko as "Chief". He still calls her that even after they've gotten together and even married with a daughter.
* BabiesEverAfter: His last scene in the Drive Saga V-Cinema has him talking to Akiko on the phone, and the conversation reveals that they have a daughter, Haruna.
* BadassBiker: Let's see: his attire completely fitting of a biker (leather jacket and pants, riding gloves and boots), he rides around on a motorcycle that's not a Rider Machine (and a Ducati at that[[note]]the first European bike to feature in a Rider series since the Gas Gas bikes in ''Series/KamenRiderKuuga'', as well as a break in the recent pattern of Riders owning custom-made bikes from Honda[[/note]]), he has a motorcycle {{Motif}} as a Rider, and he can ''become'' a bike while transformed into Accel.
* BerserkButton: He won't listen to reason once the Weather Dopant comes calling. Learning to rein himself in whenever Weather baits him is part of his CharacterDevelopment.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Flashbacks showed that Ryu's sister was very important to him, and even was the one who gave him the [[MementoMacGuffin necklace]] he wears in the series. One episode arc has him helping out a victim because she resembled his sister to a T.
* CatchPhrase: Four of them.
--> "Don't question me."[[note]]"''Ore ni shitsumon wo suru na."/"Don't ask me questions."[[/note]]
--> "Now, let's break away!"[[note]]"''Saa, furikiru ze!''"/"Now, I'll shake you off!"[[/note]]
--> "Despair awaits you at the finish line."[[note]]"''Zetsubo ga omae no goaru da.''"/"Despair is your goal."[[/note]]
--> "It's time for your despair!"
* CharacterDevelopment: Starts out brash, standoffish and focused entirely on revenge. Over the course of the series he warms up to the cast and ultimately succeeds in letting go of his desire for vengeance, culminating in him [[spoiler:defeating Isaka using the newly gained Accel Trial purely out of a desire to protect an innocent.]]
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Both Ryu Terui and [[Series/KamenRiderDecade Daiki Kaito]] are the Secondary Riders of their respective shows. Daiki was a dimension-hopping PhantomThief who steals items from each world he visits while Ryu is a police officer who secretly doubles his duty as a Kamen Rider. Furthermore, their Rider forms are also contrasts to each other; while Diend is colored blue (cyan) who is a long-ranged gun-wielder, Accel is a sword-wielding short-ranged fighter in hot red.
* CoolBike: Ryu's rad red Ducati 999, Diablossa.
* DeathByOriginStory: One that pays homage [[Series/KamenRiderV3 V3's]]. His entire family was murdered by a Dopant with a "W" Memory that froze them to death, though they lingered long enough to die right in front of him. [[spoiler:The murderer turns out to be Isaka with the "Weather" Memory.]]
* DeathGlare: Enough to unnerve [[Series/KamenRiderDrive Shinnosuke and Gou]]
* DeathSeeker: Ryu becomes one when he finally tracks down Dr. Isaka. Shotaro [[WhatTheHellHero calls him out on it]], and he eventually gets over it.
* DoesNotLikeGuns: Despite being a cop Ryu does not particularly care for firearms and almost always opts for either martial arts, or just using his Accel powers (which can use energy sword slashes from a distance but has no real ranged weapon unlike Double) over his service pistol. He even defaults to wielding the Engine Blade untransformed if he really needs a weapon out of suit. He only pulls out his pistol if he has absolutely no other option.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: After an entire story focused on Shotaro and Kirihiko's love for Futo, it's quite a shock to the system when Terui's very first line is him stating that he ''hates'' the city.
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler:With Akiko during the events of Movie War Core]].
* {{Homage}}: His character design mirrors that of [[Manga/{{Akira}} Kaneda]]. Also, his Rider armor is red and has a monoeye, he holds a high rank despite being young, and is rivals with one who has a W crest... [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam Char Aznable]]?
* {{Irony}}: While his Kamen Rider form emphasizes speed, he has the slowest henshin phrase as he says it in a PunctuatedForEmphasis manner.
* LoveRedeems: He believes his love for Akiko helped him overcome his craze for vengeance.
* MeaningfulName: He wears bright red and has fire-themed powers, and his name means 'Dragon Shining-well'.
* NoSell: Ryu has the odd ability to be resistant to many Dopant mental abilities which is why Shroud scouted him in the first place. He's completely unaffected by Old's ability to age people and he's able to fight Terror without being stricken with horrific fear though that didn't really help since Terror wrecked him anyway. Against Utopia it's only partially effective as he "merely" gets horribly injured instead of being rendered a lifeless husk though again that doesn't really help much as he was still down for the count afterwards.
* OfficialCouple: With Akiko.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: For the Weather Dopant.
* OnlySaneMan: Once he [[CharacterDevelopment gets over]] his dream of vengeance, Ryu is probably the most sensible main character compared to [[LargeHam everybody else]].
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: "Hen... '''''SHIN!'''''"
* TheRival: Ryu initially presents himself as though he'll be one, aided by this being the default relationship of nearly all prior secondary Riders[[note]]Kaixa, Leangle, [=TheBee=], etc.[[/note]], who often would hate and antagonize the main Rider for most if not all of the show. Ryu looks like he'll be the same way, as someone whose moral stance and personality begin fundamentally opposed to Shotaro's, but he undergoes enough CharacterDevelopment in his debut two-parter alone to completely avert the formation of a rivalry. The two instead become genuine friends, setting the new standard for nearly all secondary Riders going forward.
* TranquilFury: How he ends up [[spoiler:ultimately defeating Isaka]].
* TheWorfEffect: Ryu suffers a few beatings to showcase the power of some of the stronger Dopants, most notably in the final act against both the Terror and Utopia Dopants.
* [[invoked]] UnexpectedCharacter: He teams up with [[Series/KamenRiderDrive Shinnosuke and Gō]] in the Drive Saga V-Cinema.

!!!Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Accel
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krw_accel_0.png]]
[[caption-width-right:210:Accel!]]

* BodyHorror: While the transformations of Gaia Memory-using Riders are complete alterations of their bodies, it's usually not obvious compared to the blatantly inhuman Dopants. Accel's Bike Form, however, requires contorting his body in some rather unsettling ways.
* CoolBike: He can become one himself when he assumes Bike Form. Granted, it's all CGI, but still RuleOfCool.
* CoolSword: Engine Blade. Although it is quite heavy for him to wield when he isn't transforming.
* FinishingMove: Several:
** Accel: ''Accel Glanzer''[[note]]Kamen Rider Accel uses a flying reverse roundhouse kick that uses the wheel half on his right leg to leave a skid-mark like trail.[[/note]]
** Engine: Four variations:
*** ''Dynamic Ace'': The [=EngineBlade=] blasts a giant letter A out of the blade into the enemy.
*** ''A-Slasher'': Accel uses the [=EngineBlade=] to make three slashes in the shape of the letter A, be it a birds eye view or in front of him, to attack.
*** ''Engine Bike Dasher'': Accel transforms into Bike Form and then [[RammingAlwaysWorks drives straight through the target]].
*** (''Unnamed''): Accel spins around while slashing multiple targets before stopping a moment to spin into the opposite direction (still slashing) and then stops again to finish them off with normal slashes.
** Cyclone: Accel performs a wind-powered slash with the [=EngineBlade=].
** [=AccelGunner=]: ''Gunner Full Break''[[note]]Accel in the [=AccelGunner=] fires a blast from its tank-mounted {{BFG}}, the Gaia Cannon, to defeat a Dopant turned giant.[[/note]]
** [=AccelTurbuler=]: ''[=AccelTurbuler=] Phoenix''[[note]]Accel, connected to the Turbuler attachment, bursts into flames and rams through the enemy in midair.[[/note]]
** Trial: ''Machine Gun Spike''[[note]]Accel Trial delivers multiple kicks that burn a giant letter T onto the enemy.[[/note]]
** Trial / Engine: ''Machine Gun Slasher''[[note]]Accel Trial delivers a series of rapid slashes with the [=EngineBlade=] to the enemy.[[/note]]
** [=AccelBooster=] / Engine: ''Boost Slasher''[[note]]The Engine Blade turns into a glowing golden energy blade and Accel slashes through the enemy as he flies through.[[/note]]
* FireIceLightning: Accel's Engine Blade has settings for steam, fire, and lightning, representing three types of engines (Steam, Jet, and Electric).
* FragileSpeedster: Accel Trial loses much of Accel's armor in return for moving at SuperSpeed.
* ItWasAGift: All of his gear was given to him by Shroud.
* JuggleFu: Part of Machine Gun Spike. He starts the Trial Memory's countdown, throws it ahead of him, runs up to his opponent and kicks them an insane amount of times, then catches the Trial Memory on its way down.
* MightyGlacier: Downplayed. Despite having a heavier armor compared to his two future form, Trial and Booster, he wasn't hindered by the restricted mobility and can still move as if he is a LightningBruiser.
* SuperMode: By upgrading the Accel Memory with the [[spoiler:Gaia Memory Enhancer Adapter]], he gained Accel Booster in the process.
* SuperSpeed: Courtesy of Accel Trial.
* ZorroMark: Invoked with one Engine Blade FinishingMove, down to the three-cuts gimmick (marking an A instead of a Z).
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Detective Mikio Jinno]]
!!Detective Mikio Jinno
!!!'''Portrayed by:''' Takeshi Nadagi
Detective Jinno is a friend of Shotaro's, frequently letting him deal with Dopant cases. He is never seen without his trademark back scratcher.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: The Jewel Dopant arc.
* ClearMyName: The subject of #41-42.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: In Kamen Rider W Returns.
* FriendOnTheForce: He's Shotaro's main police contact and the first episode establishes that he regularly "misplaces" intel for the Half-Boiled detective.
* GoodIsDumb: He'll fall for anything (even LookBehindYou), but Shotaro says that it's his strength; Jinno is so earnest that people want to believe he's right, and when he believes that rough characters are actually good deep down, they want to ''be'' good to prove him correct. A prime example of this is Shotaro himself, as shown in flashbacks in the Jewel Dopant arc.
* GratuitousEnglish: Most common user among the cast.
* IconicItem: His back scratcher.
* InspectorLestrade: He seems to be slightly aware that he's not a particularly ''good'' detective at least and mostly relies on Shotaro and Philip's handiwork.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Doesn't even need to be in the action to fill this role in the Jewel Dopant arc.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Makura.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Detective Shun Makura]]
!!Detective Shun Makura
!!!'''Portrayed by:''' Shingo Nakagawa
Makura is Detective Jinno's rookie partner, who usually quarrels with Shotaro.
----
* ButtMonkey: If something bad can happen and he and Jinno are on the scene, it's usually going to happen to Makura ([[KarmicButtMonkey not that he doesn't deserve it much of the time]]).
* CowboyCop: Or at least [[SmallNameBigEgo he likes to think he is]].
* FairWeatherFriend: He's ''very'' quick to write off Jinno as a thief on shaky evidence during the Jewel Dopant arc, acting like such a massive {{Jerkass}} to the point where the Narumi Detective Agency's members [[WhatTheHellHero call him out on it constantly.]]
* IncomingHam: "''Maakurrra [=des'!=]''"; for whenever he follows Jinno (or Ryu) in introducing himself around the crime scenes.
* KarmicButtMonkey: A lot of the scenes that he appears in have him getting abused or verbally slapped around, but Makura is such an ass most of the time that it's hard to feel bad for him. For example, he acts like a huge {{Jerkass}} during the Jewel Dopant arc, only to get his clock cleaned by the MonsterOfTheWeek later on. He even has an ice pop stolen right off him by Shotaro at another point.
* LargeHam: If he's on the screen, he's overacting.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: He develops a crush on Aya, the transfer agent from the Triceratops Dopant arc. His selfish desire to impress her causes him to endanger the case by running off on leads half-cocked. [[spoiler:It also causes him to fail to notice the signs that she's the Triceratops Dopant.]]
* SitcomArchNemesis: With Shotaro, though definitely not a serious case. Part of this seems to stem from frustration over police detectives like him and Jinno having to rely on a private detective like Shotaro.
* SmallNameBigEgo: ''In spades''.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Jinno.
* YouGetMeCoffee: He frequently gets sent on food runs by Jinno.

* RecurringCharacter: Shotaro's informants, nicknamed after the Baker Street Irregulars from the ''Franchise/SherlockHolmes'' series.

----
* ButtMonkey: Watcherman finds himself the target of most of the show's comedic violence.
* {{Ephebophile}}: Played for laughs. He's not ''actually'' one, but he operates a blog that gathers pictures of cute girls who consented to be photographed and his {{Otaku}} mannerisms make him seem like one.
%%* FunnyAfro: Watcherman.
* {{Otaku}}: Watcherman, though it's [[Literature/TrainMan2004 not the first time]] the actor has played one.

* SomeDayThisWillComeInHandy: Santa-chan gives Shotaro a bunch of miscellaneous crap in #4, including a deck of cards. [[spoiler:Shotaro later plays a winner-take-all game of Old Maid with the Money Dopant, and won in the end with those same cards.]] [[BrickJoke The cards reappear briefly in ep. 12.]]

A pair of "street" teenage girls seen together.
----
* InformedAttribute: Queen and Elizabeth don't spend a lot of time in ''high school'', do they? Given their ''Gyaru'' aesthetics it's very likely they're skipping school.
* {{Joshikousei}}: Queen and Elizabeth are one. By the time of ''Manga/FuutoPI'' they have become college students and {{idol singer}}s.
* {{Kawaiiko}}: Elizabeth.
* ShipTease: ''Begins Night'' and the ending of "The B Carried on the Wind" implied that Elizabeth has a crush on Philip. "If Philip-kun's not going to eat his candy apple, then let ♥ me ♥ do ♥ it! ♥"
