Heiress to the Royal House of Fleuret--the former ruling family of Tenebrae (now a semi-autonomous province within the Empire)--and one of Noctis's childhood friends. She became Oracle upon the death of her mother, Queen Sylva. As per the terms of the peace treaty between Lucis and Niflheim, a [[ArrangedMarriage marriage is arranged]] between her and Noct, with her traveling to Insomnia to witness the treaty-signing.

Luna is a heavily re-imagined version of ''Stella'' Nox Fleuret, the original AntiVillain female lead of ''Final Fantasy Versus XIII''. The re-imagining came about during the game's rebranding and subsequent shifting of the story focus, which led to the role of female lead being significantly altered.

----
* AchillesHeel: Without her trident, Luna is powerless and cannot use magic.
* ActionSurvivor: She survives the devastating attack on Insomnia and goes to seek out Noctis.
* AdvertisedExtra: She's billed as the game's main heroine, and side materials such as ''Anime/KingsglaiveFinalFantasyXV'' and the Brotherhood anime set her up to be a prominent figure, but she only appears for roughly half an hour of the 30+ hour game, and even then very little of it is spent interacting with the main heroes and/or [[spoiler:alive]]. Especially egregious in the ''Royal Edition'', where she appears on the cover of the game, but her added screentime amounts to a brief cutscene of [[spoiler:her spirit appearing to provide a DeusExMachina to help the heroes get past a magic barrier, with little in the way of new insight on the character]].
* AncestralWeapon: The Trident of the Oracle is a very powerful AncientArtifact passed down the Fleuret family from one Oracle to the next, in fact without their trident the Oracles are all but powerless. It is the only one of the Royal Arms that Noctis obtains not to belong to a Lucian King or Queen.
* AnimeHair: A subversion. Her hairstyle is doable in real-life (it was actually designed by a professional hair stylist hired by Square), but is ''extremely'' intricate and complex. It's actually very similar to [[spoiler:Shiva's]], which implies that more likely than not Gentiana does her hair.
* AntiAntichrist: [[spoiler:In the ''Dawn Of The Future'' novel, she was resurrected by Bahamut in order to succeed Ardyn as being TheAntichrist to oppose Noct's MessianicArchetype, and act as his SacrificialLamb to destroy the Starscourge. She instead plots to exhaust his power to put him to sleep, but not before succumbing to the Starscourge after absorbing too much of it when freeing Ifrit]].
* ArrangedMarriage: As part of the peace treaty between Lucis and Niflheim, she is to marry Noct. But it turns out that it was a ruse by Niflheim to steal Lucis's PowerCrystal.
* AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: She [[spoiler:becomes one with the spirit realm]] after her death and is eventually joined by [[spoiler:Noctis in the post-credits stinger]].
* BackFromTheDead: She is [[spoiler:resurrected by Bahamut in ''Dawn of the Future'', after Ardyn throws a wrench into the Astral's plans by refusing to play along]].
* BadassBoast:
-->''(To Leviathan)'' "I vow--the King ''will'' prove himself worthy!"\
"This I solemnly vow, upon my honor as Oracle: I will not rest until the Darkness has been banished from our world, and the Light restored!"
* BarrierMaiden: As an Oracle, her powers are the only thing preventing the world from being plunged into eternal darkness. Appropriately after she is [[spoiler:killed by Ardyn, the world slowly descends into the TheNightThatNeverEnds.]]
* BeneathTheMask: For a single cutscene, Luna lets her composure slip to Ravus that she is terrified her failing health will soon render her unable to fulfill her duty and make her a burden.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:In the ''Royal Edition'', she appears in spirit form to call upon the Astrals to destroy a swarm of incoming demons and break down the wall blocking the group's path to Ardyn.]]
* CameBackWrong: In the ''Dawn of the Future'' novel, Lunafreya is resurrected by Bahamut. Normally, this would be all well and good...except she's been given the same abilities as Ardyn.
* CastFromLifespan: Forging a covenant with the Six is a debilitating process to the Oracle to the point of putting Luna on death's door.
* ChildhoodFriends: Noctis once visited her homeland of Tenebrae when he was being treated for his injuries after being attacked by a Marilith, there she and Noctis grew close until the Empire's invasion separated them.
* ColorCodedCharacters: To help contrast her ColorMotif from Noctis's, she is generally dressed in white.
* ComicBookFantasyCasting: Her likeness in ''[[Anime/KingsglaiveFinalFantasyXV Kingsglaive]]'' is based on Russian model Sonya Maltceva, though different voice actresses play her.
* CosmicKeystone: As the Oracle she is the only person capable of healing people of the Starscourge affliction. [[spoiler:It's for this reason that Ardyn kills her, removing the only person capable of holding the Starscourge from blighting all of Eos and plunging the world into TheNightThatNeverEnds.]]
* {{Determinator}}: She will see to it that Noctis ascends and receives the power that is rightfully his, and absolutely ''nothing'' will stop her. Not General Glauca, not a broken-down airship, not even ''[[JerkassGod Leviathan]]'', and certainly not [[spoiler:Ardyn gutting her]].
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Luna is the "keystone" that connects the entire ''Final Fantasy XV'' Universe; she is the only character that has a leading role in all installments. The main story depicts not only Noct's journey, but hers as well.
-->''Fifteen years ago... Their journey began.''
* TheDogBitesBack: After years of quietly accepting her fate as the Oracle, she ultimately [[spoiler:rebels against her ordained duty once she learns that not only is her beloved Noctis supposed to die, too, but that Bahamut intends to destroy Eos entirely.]]
* EvilCounterpart: She unwillingly becomes this to Noctis in ''Dawn of the Future'' courtesy of [[spoiler:Bahamut, who has her absorb the Starscourge itself to fuel Tera Flare, thus turning her into the "Queen of Darkness", just as how Bahamut planned to have Noct absorb the Crystal's light to fuel Providence, making him the "King of Light".]]
* TheExile: After the invasion of Insomnia, Luna went into self-imposed exile to hide from Niflheim.
* FallenPrincess: Her family was stripped of its title but she retains some authority within her country, not as its former princess, but as the [[HighPriest Oracle]].
* TheFarmerAndTheViper: She tries to comfort Ardyn, apparently believing that he is not evil [[DemonicPossession of his own free will]]. He backhands her in response.
* FearlessFool: She's a strong-willed person who, by her own words, does not fear death, though in ''Kingsglaive'' Nyx rolls his eyes at her no less than three times during the mission to retrieve her from a Niflheim warship, as he ends up having to prevent her from doing anything reckless.
* ForcedToWatch: The death of Regis at Glauca's hands in ''Kingsglaive''. All she can do is stare as the king of Lucis gets ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice.
* GaussianGirl: She's presented this way in the TGS 2014 trailer after the boys bring her up, complete with hazy motes of light around her.
* GenderRestrictedAbility: The position of Oracle is passed only down to the women of the Fleuret family, unlike the power of the Caelums, which has been passed down through Kings and Queens. That said, the males still apparently do receive bits and pieces of an Oracle's power, like Ravus's SuperStrength--just not the entire package, like the healing or the ability to call upon and communicate with Astrals.
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: As shown by the ''Dawn of the Future'' novel, not only is she trained in Polearm combat, given proper instruction, she's surprisingly helpful in repairing a motorcycle.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: Her primary color scheme is white, [[HairOfGoldHeartOfGold she’s fair skinned, blond haired and as benevolent as they get.]] Radiates a heavenly gold aura when using her powers as an oracle, has a very divine appearance with angelic beauty and communes with the gods to help Noctis save the world even though using her powers is causing her body to fail.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Luna has blonde hair and has an affable nature.
* HeroesLoveDogs: Luna has two dogs, the black furred Umbra and the white furred Pryna.
* HeroicBSOD: As Luna's body increasingly weakens, she [[spoiler:briefly abandons her duty as Oracle and asks Ravus to take the Ring to Noctis in her place.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: Luna uses the remaining power she has to [[spoiler: help Noctis fight Leviathan and heal him when she could have saved herself from the wound she received from being stabbed by Ardyn.]]
* HiddenDepths: She has a few interesting quirks that not many people, Noctis included, know about her. For starters, despite her non-action status, she is incredibly skilled in the use of polearms and staves, courtesy of her Oracle training. She's also a little bit of a gearhead, knowing well enough about motorcycles to help Sol repair and maintain her Regina -- which effectively puts Noctis and the Chocobros to shame as they are ''helpless'' without Cindy working on the Regalia. Her sternness is also a bit of a mask -- she confides in Gentiana that she is far more excited about her wedding to Noctis than she lets on, while alone with her brother, admits that her NervesOfSteel are something of a facade she puts on for the sake of others', and that her destiny deeply saddens and terrifies her.
* HighPriest: Or "Priestess" in her case. The Oracle is a major religious authority and because of this, the Empire cannot fully assimilate Tenebrae without risking civil unrest from the rest of the world.
* IChooseToStay: She had an opportunity to escape Tenebrae as it was being conquered, but ran back to be with her brother.
* ImprovisedWeapon: The staff she wields in the ''Dawn of the Future'' novel is little more than a strong tree branch, not that she didn't make it work.
* InsecureLoveInterest: Luna fears that she "has nothing to offer" Noctis other than her role as Oracle. This is insecurity rather than reality -- she has the compassion of a saint, a will of pure steel, and the courage to stand up to an enraged JerkassGod who tries to kill her and Noctis. She is also definitely in the running for most beautiful woman in all of Eos.
* InSeriesNickname: A lot of the people who know her personally, including Noct and his friends, call her "Luna" instead of her full name of Lunafreya. Meta-wise, she's also usually referred to as "Luna" by the development staff.
* LastOfHisKind: She's the last of the Oracles.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Downplayed. The light feminine to Gentiana's dark feminine. Luna is [[AllLovingHeroine an all loving heroine]], wears white, is kind, has angelic beauty and glows with a heavenly aura. Gentiana wears dark colors, is mysterious and somewhat aloof, and her beauty looks like something you'd expect from a LadyOfBlackMagic to contrast with Luna's WhiteMagicianGirl look.
* LightLiegeDarkDefender: The light liege to Nyx Ulric's dark defender in Kingsglaive.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: ''Dawn of the Future'' reveals that Luna has ''no'' idea about what Noctis must ultimately do to banish the darkness fronm Eos. [[spoiler:She does not take the news of his upcoming death well.]]
* LovedByAll: A perk of being an Oracle is that nearly everyone loves her.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Personality-wise Masculine Girl to Noctis’s Feminine Boy. [[http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/08/05/new-story-details-from-final-fantasy-xv-s-director.aspx When comparing the personalities of Noctis and Lunafreya, Tabata referred to Noctis as the weaker of the two, with Luna being the stronger one.]] She is the alpha in their relationship since she's proactive, being more likely to create or control a situation by causing something to happen, is resolved to see her duties through no matter what, in spite of the numerous tragedies she has endured all from a young age, largely by herself and comes across as more fit and ready to lead a country in addition to being strong willed and independent. [[{{Foil}} In contrast Noctis is shy, indecisive in stressful situations, faint of heart with his duties, needs the support of others in order to cope with tragic events, needs to grow more before being ready to lead a nation, and responds to critical events rather than creating them.]]
** Justified since Luna had to [[TookALevelInBadass toughen up]] after her parents are killed, Ravus joins the Empire and Tenebrae gets occupied. While Noctis lives a rather [[ShelteredAristocrat sheltered and pampered life in Insomnia.]]
* MeaningfulName: "Lunafreya" is a {{Portmanteau}} of the Latin word for moon and the Norse goddess of the same name, "Nox" means night, while "[[RoyalRapier Fleuret]]" refers to her ''predecessor's'' weapons.
** In the Japanese version, ''frena'' is the plural of the Latin ''frenum'' ("bridle").
* TheMentor: Being the older of the two, Luna was the one who told Noctis about their roles as TheChosenOne[=s=]. The "Omen" trailer intercuts dialogue of them reassuring each other with a scene of [[spoiler:[[MentorOccupationalHazard a crazed older Noctis killing her]]. Though in the game, [[NeverTrustATrailer it turns out that Ardyn is the one to kill her]].]]
* MentorOccupationalHazard: Years after telling Noctis about their roles as {{The Chosen One}}s, [[spoiler:she is tragically killed by Ardyn]].
* MinoredInAssKicking: While Luna never displayed any physical capabilities aside from tanking Leviathan's attacks no worse for wear in the game proper, ''Dawn of the Future'' reveals that all Oracles receive combat training in spears and tridents as part of their grooming. While she did complete the training, she has admittedly put regular practice on the backburner due to focusing on her duties as a healer. [[spoiler:After she is revived in the World of Ruin, she finds herself quickly needing to get back in the groove of it to fend off the daemons, though it's made somewhat easier now that she also sports Ardyn's powers in addition to her own.]]
* MinorMajorCharacter: While she plays an important role in the universe's lore and plot, her actual screentime clocks in at roughly half an hour of screentime and whatever relevance she has to the story is communicated almost entirely via exposition and third-hand accounts.
* MissingMom: Her mother, Queen Sylva, died during Niflheim's invasion of Tenebrae in ''Kingsglaive''.
* MysticalWaif: Even as a child she spoke quite eloquently and seriously about the Oracle and King's duties.
* NaginatasAreFeminine: She's trained in Polearm combat, and, in the ''Dawn of the Future'' novel, Sol noted that she wields her staff with the finesse of a trailed warrior.
* NervesOfSteel: She is definitely not a woman easily shaken.
** Throughout most of ''[[Anime/KingsglaiveFinalFantasyXV Kingsglaive]]'', she is nearly killed many times by monsters, enemy soldiers, and other random debris and explosions from being in the middle of a massive war, and still manages to put up a stoic and professional demeanor.
** After concluding her meeting with Camelia in Altissia, several Imperial magitek troopers rush in and surround her, holding her at gunpoint. From the moment they enter she doesn't look at them or even acknowledge their presence -- she simply sits in thought for a moment, then stands and walks out of the room with her eyes forward, pushing the barrels of their guns out of her way.
** In the main game, she stares down Leviathan and pulls a WhatTheHellHero on it when it initially resists the idea of the covenant. Even as Leviathan sprays her and lashes out at her to make her fall and damage the platform she's on, she gets back up and doesn't lose her resolve. During the confrontation she summons the power of the Kings of Lucis to aid Noctis in combating Leviathan, summons Titan to defend him when he runs out of steam, and then shields Noct with her own body as the two Astrals fight, ''and'' she does all this while [[spoiler:bleeding out from Ardyn stabbing her in the gut.]]
* NeverBeHurtAgain: Whatever [[TookaLevelinBadass skills or reputation she's gained over the years]], the mooks holding her at gunpoint aren't quite as eager to attack her as the one in her flashback. It is also possible that this is due to her brother--who presumably still cares for her--working for the Empire.
* NiceGirl: Said to care for everyone. Best exemplified in Episode 2 of ''Brotherhood''; once she learns that Prompto rescued and took care of one of her puppies, she has Gentiana look him up and personally writes a letter to thank him. Unfortunately, she mistakes Prompto for one of Noctis's friends (she had lent the puppy to him) -- ''fortunately'', that mistake is what drives Prompto to change and actually befriend Noctis.
* NotAfraidToDie: Says this several times in ''[[Anime/KingsglaiveFinalFantasyXV Kingsglaive]]''; what she fears most is being unable to do anything despite having power.
* NotTooDeadToSaveTheDay: [[spoiler: An additional cutscene in the Royal Edition has her spirit and Gentiana assisting the party by using all the summons at once to destroy the shield of Insomnia and the monsters nearby.]]
* OddFriendship: Due to her status as the Oracle, [[NiceGirl and her disposition]], absolutely ''everyone'' adores her, leading to a few instances of this:
** She's a childhood friend of Noctis, who as a kid was often moody and quiet. Nowadays, he's a warrior-prince-slacker who loves fishing and video games. His bros often snark that she's too good for him.
** Her closest friend is Gentiana, a ''divine being''. It's hilarious at how nonplussed Noctis is when he mentions that fact since he's casually known her as a child himself, while the others can only stand in amazement.
* {{Ojou}}: Like Stella before her, Luna comes from a very prestigious family (of RoyalBlood, in fact), and is usually shown as quite fancy and has known Noct for a long time. Her classiness doesn't seem to help her much during the invasion of Insomnia, alas.
* PassiveAggressiveKombat: In response to Leviathan's callousness, Luna basically says that a merciless god is not worth worshiping.
* PowersViaWeapon: The oracle's bloodline grants them the ability to commune with the Gods and heal the sick, but they cannot actually do these things without their AncestralWeapon the Trident of the Oracle.
* ProperLady: As befitting one born into royalty.
* SecretlyDying: She says her flesh was starting to fail her and in a private scene with Ravus he warns her that if she keeps performing her duties as Oracle, she will die however it appears she successfully kept this a secret from the public as well as from Regis and Noctis.
* SexySlitDress: The side of her dress [[ActionDressRip tears]] all the way up to her hip as she faces off against Leviathan, showing that she [[http://pre13.deviantart.net/b8b0/th/pre/f/2016/237/1/e/lunafrena_versus_leviathane_iv_by_stellaearrente-dafa0wa.jpg has nice legs]].
* ShutUpHannibal: It's right there in her quote; in response to Leviathan's rant against mankind, Luna rips into Leviathan ''something good'', telling the Astral that ''she'' should be the one submitting to the King, not the other way around.
* SilkHidingSteel: She's a prim and proper lady, but she's courageous and unafraid to use her wiles and head into the fray directly to do what she must.
* ShipTease: Downplayed, but seemingly present in her time with [[BodyguardCrush Nyx Ulric]] in Kingsglaive.
* StellarName: Not quite literally Stella anymore, but "Luna" is still Latin for the moon.
* SummonMagic: Titan heeds Luna's call to create dams of earth to protect Noctis and the city when [[spoiler: combating Leviathan]].
* SuperStrength: It's said that Oracles are by far physically stronger than ordinary humans. While Luna's not a straight-up fighter like Aranea, she does display a few traits of this, such as essentially tanking Leviathan's attacks with little damage, and even managing to heal Noctis after [[spoiler:Ardyn gutted her, though this ultimately ends up killing her.]]
* TalentedPrincessRegularGuy: Prompto and Gladio lampshade that Noctis and Luna could have become this trope, if he had stopped working out and let himself go, making jovial comments like "She could have done better" or "What does she see in him?"
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:Reunites with Noctis in the afterlife]].
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: She's easily the purest soul in the game, wanting nothing more than to help people, even the likes of [[BigBad Ardyn]]. [[spoiler:So of course he's the one who ends up killing her just because he could, and because it helps him in his plan to turn the entire world into an absolute nightmare.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: In ''[[Anime/KingsglaiveFinalFantasyXV Kingsglaive]]'', she doesn't have her trident and thus had no magic. While she pulled her weight as best as she could, she still had to rely primarily on Nyx. In the main game, not only is she capable of enough magic to blast back a goddess trying to eat her, but she also [[spoiler: gives Noctis the power up he needs to take on Leviathan, despite suffering from a fatal wound.]] Taken even further in ''Dawn of the Future'' when she [[spoiler:is revived with Ardyn's powerset]], though the novel also establishes that she was already more than capable of kicking her fair share of ass thanks a lifetime of combat training -- she simply never found a need or opportunity to fight due to her main role as a healer.
* ToughLeaderFacade: While talking with Camelia, Luna is quiet and subdued because she knows how destructive Leviathan might be. She shows nothing of this to the soldiers who come to threaten her minutes later, or to Altissa's panicked populace.
-->'''Gentiana:''' ''(reassuring Luna)'' It was not the Oracle who assuaged [Regis and Noctis's] fears. But the girl... she holds the true power.
* TragicHero: Luna knows that she must [[spoiler: die for the light to return. She fights anyway.]]
* UnflinchingWalk: After the MT's enter her room in Altissia in order to intimidate her, Luna brushes aside their gun barrels and does this to head to the altar to complete the Covenant anyway.
* WhiteMagic: Luna's magic is divine in origin, granted only to a single woman of her bloodline at one time; upon the Oracle's death her successor will go through a ceremony to become the new Oracle and gain their powers. These powers are typically used for healing and cleansing the Starscourge and communing with the Gods, although she does have magic defined for combat as seen with her scuffle with Leviathan.
* YouAreWorthHell: Luna puts herself through a lot of hardship, thinking only of her duty to support Noctis and does everything she can to help him [[spoiler:even at the cost of her own life.]]
* YouCantFightFate: [[spoiler:Although her death is desperate and painful]], Luna is able to take some comfort in the fact that in the long run, the darkness will be defeated.
* YouSeeImDying: [[spoiler: Luna’s body was failing and wasn’t going to last much longer.]] Ravus was aware of this and expressed his concern for her.

The [[OurAngelsAreDifferent High Messenger of the Gods]], and Luna's counterpart and attendant.
----
* ArtShift: In the original ''Versus XIII'' concept, Gentiana had a slightly different design -- her outfit was slightly more leaned towards an Eastern aesthetic (her current dress is a mix of Japanese and Middle European), her leggings didn't have enormous heels and only instead bared her toes and heels, she carried around a [[{{BFS}} giant sword]] and she wore red-framed glasses, though she still kept her eyes closed.
* AscendedExtra: In the original concept for ''Versus XIII'', Gentiana's role was that of a mediator between Tenebrae and Niflheim, as well as being Stella's bodyguard and attendant. In ''XV'', she got something of a [[{{Pun}} godly promotion]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Don't be fooled by her seemingly delicate appearance and demeanor. [[spoiler:She turns out to be a [[GodInHumanForm goddess in human form]] who manages to effortlessly defeat two of the most powerful and dangerous characters in the plot: the immortal BigBad Ardyn (though his defeat is temporary) and the resident PhysicalGod Ifrit]].
* TheComicallySerious: She uses her mysterious power to appear and disappear at will to photobomb Prompto every so often.
* CurbStompBattle: Calling her encounters with Ardyn and Ifrit "fights" would be generous at best...to ''them''.
* EyesAlwaysShut: She rarely opens her eyes, to help illustrate she's not quite human. She only opens them when she has something ''very'' important to say.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: She occasionally pops up in Prompto's photos without the guys even noticing it.
* HiddenDepths: She's an enigmatic and ancient deity, but she's also NotSoAboveItAll. She's a little bit of a [[TheGadfly gadfly]], frequently photobombing Prompto's shots, openly [[ShipperOnDeck ships]] Noctis and Luna, and is [[TeamChef one hell of a good cook]]. She used to be cold, fitting her theme, but evidently humanity has rubbed off on her.
* HimeCut: As befitting of a noble retainer.
* AnIcePerson: She's the human form of [[spoiler:Shiva, the astral of ice]]
* KissOfDeath: Plants it on [[spoiler: Ifrit.]]
* LadyInWaiting: To Luna.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Downplayed. The dark feminine to Luna's light feminine. [[spoiler:Fittingly, Gentiana's dominion over ice magic (and role as the human form of a death goddess) actually ''does'' make her effectively the truest Black Mage of the setting.]]
* MesACrowd: [[spoiler: As Shiva]], she can make many duplicates of herself.
* MeaningfulName: Her name is a reference to the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gentiana species of flower]].
* MsFanservice: She would normally avert this trope, given that she wears a very conservative outfit that covers her entire body (save for her cleavage). With that said, her [[spoiler:true form as Shiva (one of the biggest fanservice providers in the series) on the other hand features the most revealing outfit for Shiva to date]].
* NiceGirl: While a bit cryptic, she's very kind and sweet. She even has a slightly mischievous side to her, as she seems to love photobombing Prompto's snapshots.
* OffHandBackhand: Gentiana does this to [[spoiler: Ardyn in the form of an IndirectKiss flash freezing him]].
* OffscreenTeleportation: She does this, spooking the party, at one point, there is even an achievement for getting a photograph of her when the party never knew she was there.
* OneHitKO: Quite fond of these. As noted above, she tends to decimate her foes before a fight ''can even start''.
* PhysicalGod: [[spoiler:She's Shiva, one of the Astrals, and, all things considered, one of their {{Token Good Teammate}}s]].
* RunningGag: Prompto's (and by extension the entire group's) increasingly flabbergasted banter on how she keeps showing up in their photos without them noticing before. It gets to a point where Prompto actually readies himself for it, and ''still'' gets surprised.
* ShipperOnDeck: She's pleased to see the Oracle and the future King to have already grown as such close friends on the very day they meet. She's also very happy for Luna when she receives her wedding dress.
* ShutUpHannibal: On his way to Niflheim's capital, Noctis gets taunted yet again by Ardyn, only for Gentiana to step in and put a finger on the latter's lip as a sign to shut it. [[spoiler:Said touch freezes Ardyn instantly, and Noctis later shatters the body.]]
* TeamChef: She randomly shows up in ''Comrades'' to cook for your party. And out of all the godly, divine things one can expect, she makes you a... traditional Japanese lunchbox!
* WalkingSpoiler: It's hard talking about Gentiana, especially when bringing up the biggest twist regarding her.
* WhatTheHellIsThatAccent: She has a very gentle and lovely voice, but her accent is notably out of place in Eos, where the common accents are either usually Northern-American or Received Pronunciation, with the occasional Cockney and DeepSouth. She's a Messenger of the Gods, and as the Astrals speak a ''very'' alien language perhaps this makes sense.
* WhenSheSmiles: She's usually very serious, but when she does smile she's quite lovely. [[FunnyBackgroundEvent Happens now and again in Prompto's photos]].
* YamatoNadeshiko: Invokes the image of the proper Japanese lady, especially in terms of her overall appearance, outfit, wisdom, and quiet dedication to Lunafreya.

----
* MeaningfulName: ''Sylva'' is derived from the Latin name Sylvia ("from the forest"), and ''Via'' is Latin for "method" or "manner".
* MissingMom: She was killed in the Niflheim invasion of Fenestala Manor, the ancestral home of the Oracle.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: It's pretty clear where Luna and Ravus got their looks from.

The first Oracle of Eos, and Lunafreya's ancestor 2000 years removed. She was Ardyn's fiancée and was tasked with announcing the chosen first King by the will of the Astrals.

----
* AdventurerArchaeologist: Despite being the Oracle, she very much preferred archaeology and exploring. She was endlessly curious about ancient civilizations that came before them.
* AmbiguousSituation: How much she knew about [[spoiler: Ardyn's true fate -- and whether she truly betrayed him -- are left intentionally vague. Her actions in the animated prologue present her as confused by Somnus declaring himself king and dying to protect Ardyn; meanwhile in ''Episode Ardyn'', an illusion of her revealed info Ardyn was never privy to (informing Somnus of the Gods' decision to make Ardyn king) and apologizing for her mistake. Compounding the issue further: at the end of the DLC, Bahamut words things in a way that makes her out to be manipulative and evil, but the version of her used to torment Ardyn when he resists fate speaks in unison with Bahamut, implying that Bahamut is deceiving Ardyn into believing she was plotting against him all along and using her image to twist the knife.]] Regardless of which is true, Ardyn has crossed so far over the DespairEventHorizon he doesn't care anymore.
* BeneathTheMask: To the people, she always came off as stoic and composed. In front of Ardyn however, she showed off her more adventurous and dorky side. She never minced words with him and loved exploring and archaeology.
* ChildhoodFriends: She's known Ardyn and Somnus since they were little, but it was always Ardyn she loved.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: Like Lunafreya and Sylva, her primary color motif is gold and white.
* HeroicSacrifice: She jumped in front of Ardyn to save him from Somnus's killing blow, [[DiedInYourArmsTonight dying in his arms]]. Unfortunately, it was a SenselessSacrifice as Somnus still ultimately got what he wanted.
* IdenticalGrandson: Her descendant Lunafreya is the spitting image of her. [[spoiler:It's this resemblance that gives Ardyn the idea to have Luna and Noct (Somnus's descendant) betrothed--so that he could make Noct experience the same pain he did. 199* TheLostLenore: Her [[spoiler:death at Somnus's hands is a major driving force behind Ardyn's revenge]].
* MeaningfulName: Aera is the Japanese transliteration of ''Eir'', the Norse goddess of healing; appropriate, given her role as Oracle, while ''mirus'' is Latin for "wonderful".
* TheNarrator: Of ''Episode Ardyn'' and its prologue.
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:The second title screen for ''Episode Ardyn'', and part of the finale of ''Dawn of the Future'', suggests Ardyn and Aera reunite, and spend their afterlife together.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: [[ItsAllMyFault By her own admission]], her [[spoiler:revealing to Somnus of Ardyn being the chosen king led to Somnus's betrayal, her death and Ardyn's descent into villainy. [[UnreliableNarrator Of course this was in a hallucination Ardyn had]], and the ambiguity of the situation leaves it unclear if it was true or that Somnus and Aera both knew that Ardyn was fated to become a sacrifice]].

* AlliterativeName: Pronunciation-wise.
* BerserkButton: Do ''not'' ask him where he got the name "Hammerhead" from.
* BrutalHonesty: He has no problem speaking exactly what’s on his mind unfiltered to people and within seconds of meeting him, bluntly expressed his low opinion of Noctis to his face, even though he had only just met him. It helps that he was friends with [[TheGoodKing Noctis's father, Regis]], when they were young, close enough to call him the nickname "Reggie" instead of using formalities.
* DeepSouth: In the English version, Cid sports an American Southern accent.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Was close friends with Regis, who was 27 years his junior.
* TheGunslinger: When Cid fought alongside Regis, he favored firearms as his weapon of choice.
* LegacyCharacter: Cid is now a grandfather.

* RecurringElement. He's the Cid of Cid game, carrying on the trend of there being a mechanic named CID in each Final Fantasy entry.
* RetiredBadass: He fought in the wars against Niflheim in his youth, alongside Regis, Cor and Clarus in fact.
* SouthernFriedGenius: He's a blacksmith and a mechanic, who sports a Southern accent.
* TheNicknamer: Calls Regis "Reggie".
* UltimateBlacksmith: After retiring and leaving the garage to Cindy, he takes up upgrading Noctis's mechanical weapons and machines to stave off boredom; it's through this that you get the [[InfinityPlusOneSword Ultima Blade]].
* WeUsedToBeFriends: Cid considers Regis a friend now, but there was a time when Cid and Regis had a disagreement and became estranged from one another. While they did patch things up later, Cid never saw Regis again in person, which he regrets upon hearing of Regis' death. While the reason why they argued is unknown, Cid hints that it was due to Regis not confiding with his friends about his problems.

----
* ActionSurvivor: Talcott implies that she's ''at least'' this in the World of Ruin, if not a full-fledged fighter in her own right, but that she often asks for help from other Hunters on her bigger assignments.
* BadassAdorable: She is the Head Mechanic of Hammerhead, being very skilled at fixing cars -- and later, implied to have some ActionSurvivor chops -- and looks quite cute as well.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has a busty figure that is constantly emphasized by the fact her jacket is only partially zipped up, which seems to be why she's a DudeMagnet.
* CluelessDudeMagnet: She seems to be entirely clueless that she has men pinning after her, seemingly not even understanding when they blatantly flirt with her.
* TheCutie: Despite her sexy appearance, she has a sweet, upbneat, and innocent personality.
* DeepSouth: As with her grandfather, she sports an American Southern accent in the English version.
* DubNameChange: While her name is Cidney in the Japanese version (to better keep in line with her being this game's Cid), English-speaking versions changed it to Cindy for what was initially thought to be "[[LostInTranslation reasons]]". In reality, it's due to the fact that there's an ''actual'' Cid in the game, and the localization staff apparently thought "Cidney" was just this side of ''too'' [[PunnyName punny]] for a major member of the supporting cast.
* DudeMagnet: Guys often have the hots for her, especially Prompto and Gladius, who flirt with her many times.
* GenkiGirl: She has a constant upbeat and enthusiastic demeanour.
* GogglesDoNothing: She has a pair of googles hanging at her chest, and although she's a mechanic, she never makes use of it.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She has blond hair and is a quite friendly mechanic.
%%* LegacyCharacter: Cid has been an old man, a bishonen, a hunk, and finally a girl! Well, okay, there's also her granddad, who's the ''actual'' Cid, but close enough.
* MarriedToTheJob: Post TimeSkip, she remains a mechanic, and according to Talcott turned down all of Prompto's attempts at flirting.
* MaybeEverAfter: In the Royal Edition, Noctis can ask Prompto if things ever worked out between him and Cindy, and Prompto only replies "I won't kiss and tell".
* MeaningfulName: Her surname is Latin for "golden".
* MsFanservice: Her work uniform exposes her toned stomach, being a bikini and a small, partially zipped jacket. Cutscenes grace her with some very [[MaleGaze gracious camera angles]], which [[EatingTheEyeCandy Gladiolus and Prompto clearly appreciate]].
* NiceGirl: She always has a friendly and positive attitude, especially in comparison to her [[GrumpyOldMan grumpier granddad.]]

* ObliviousToLove: "Oblivious To Flirting" more like. She keeps misinterpreting the guys' (blatant) attempts to hit on her for something... innocent, much to their chagrin.
* OlderThanSheLooks: A {{downplayed|Trope}} example, but it's interesting that at 26, she's, in fact, older than guys like Ignis and the grizzled Gladiolus.

First Secretary of the Accordo Protectorate, Camelia gave Luna sanctuary while she was being pursued by Niflheim, working alongside her and Noctis to arrange the rite to summon Leviathan.

----
* ImpliedDeathThreat: She gives a subtle hint at one to Noctis during negotiations and, depending on your answer, she will either be impressed with you and compare you to your father or mock you for your perceived inexperience at diplomacy.
* IronLady: She's not afraid to take a hard stance in her negotiations with Noctis, even telling Noctis that if her people come to harm, then the King and the Oracle ''will'' pay for it.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite being cold and reminding Noctis she could simply hand Luna over to Niflheim, she shows concern for Luna while they're in in private. Likewise, after the events at Altissia, she credits Noctis and Luna for saving her city and people over the radio.
* NoHistoricalFiguresWereHarmed: She bears a startling resemblance to {{UsefulNotes/Margaret Thatcher}}, Hillary Clinton, and Angela Merkel. Given that all three are considered IronLady leaders of their own nations (Thatcher was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Clinton was the Secretary of State and first female to run for President of the United States on a major party ticket, and Angela Merkel is, as of 2017, the current Chancellor of Germany and ''de facto'' leader of the European Union), this resemblance allows for Claustra to be more easily believed as a strong, powerful leader for the player.
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: A core concern of her negotiations with Noctis. While she's willing to allow the rite to happen for the sake of the TheProphecy, her duty is to Altissia first and allowing the rite would mean drawing Niflheim's ire towards them. The player can gain her trust by recognizing this and showing empathy for her position.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Even though Noctis is essentially a ruler-in-exile and doesn't have any political leverage against her, Claustra is still happily willing to hear him out and help Noct and Luna summon Leviathan.

Case in point, she never actually realizes that she is sending the heir to the Lucian throne out on her research projects, and when Noctis brings up that he has "royal stuff" that would get in the way of his being a scientist, she thinks he means he is an actor in the royal theater.
* BlackAndNerdy: A black professor who's obsessed with researching frogs and animal life.
* IgnoredExpert: She was one of the few people to notice the nights getting longer and tried to look into it while the rest of the world wasn't concerned until the sun was rising ''three hours late.'' 379* FatBastard: Averted. Despite the group originally finding him somewhat sketchy, he turns out to be an honest and reasonable person. He always warns the group about the increasing difficulty of his requests and offers them more money for their trouble. And although he deduces that it's Noctis he's working with, he never tries to betray him for his own profit.
* FormerlyFit: Used to be skinny as a rail back when he was a journalist. Traveling with a hunter who was able to cook a lot of delicious dishes clearly had a big influence on him.
* GeekPhysiques: He's a sweaty, obese man with a neckbeard.
* GoingForTheBigScoop: In his youth as a journalist,

* EatingPetFood: His speciality when it comes to cooking is dishes that use the same kinds of greens that Chocobos usually munch on. While Prompto and Noctis react oddly to the idea, Ignis reminds them that those greens are perfectly fit for human consumption and the dishes Wiz makes out of them tend to be delicious.

An original character created for "Adventurer from Another World", a collaboration with ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV''. Y'jhimei is a miqo'te from Hydaelyn, a world that is under constant threat from summoned god-like entities known as primals. With someone on Eos attempting to summon Garuda, one of the most violent and bloodthirsty primals in existence, Y'jhimei has requested the aid of Noctis and his friends to prevent a potentially cataclysm. Problem is, she ended up being trapped under an ''enormous'' Fat Chocobo inside an abandoned warehouse just outside of Cauthess Rest Area. Fortunately for her, Noctis and Co. overhear her calling for help while traveling on a nearby road, thus starting the quest.
----
* AmbiguouslyRelated: Seeker of the Sun naming conventions dictate that Y'jhimei hails from the Y, or Jaguar, tribe of miqo'te, the same tribe as [[Characters/FinalFantasyXIVScionsOfTheSeventhDawn Y'shtola Rhul]], one of the main heroines of ''Final Fantasy XIV''. Given that Seeker tribes are structured around a single or at most handful of breeding males with exclusive mating rights, it is very possible that Y'jhimei is one of Y'shtola's many sisters.
* CatGirl: Miqo'te are possessed of long cat-like ears and fluffy tails. As a member of the Seekers of the Sun subrace, Y'jhimei also has slitted pupils like a cat.
* GenkiGirl: She is very perky.
* GuestStarPartyMember: ''[[{{Subversion}} Sort of.]]'' She follows the bros around for a bit, and even heals them in battle, but she herself doesn't actively participate in combat, possess any offensive abilities, or even occupy the guest slot.
* FieryRedhead: Has deep red hair and spunk to spare.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Why exactly are she and the Ixal beastmen on Eos? She accidentally brought them and herself over with an Allagan teleporter. Oops!
* OriginalGeneration: Y'jhimei is an original character created specifically for the ''FFXIV'' crossover event.
* SpellBook: As an Arcanist, Y'jhimei uses a magic tome as her weapon of choice.
* UnexplainedAccent: Quite an unusual case - in the English version, her American accent matches the majority of the cast of ''Final Fantasy XV''... but is instead completely at odds with her home world of ''Final Fantasy XIV'', where all characters speak with British or other European accents and American accents are non-exisent. In reality, this will be due to the voice acting for both games being handled by completely different teams, with XIV handled in the UK and XV in the US.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Her cat-girl appearance only momentarily gives the bros pause, but they write it off fairly quickly. If anything, her fatass Chocobo was far more curious to Noct and Ignis.
* WhiteMage: In ''FFXIV'', the Arcanist is a DPS class that gains access to the healing spell Physick early on and can later become the healer job Scholar. This is reflected in Y'jhimei's fighting style, which is focused on healing her allies in combat.
* WrongContextMagic: Since she’s from another world, her magic runs on a completely different set of rules from how it works in Eos. The fact that she can cast magic at all is eyebrow-raising to the party, and Prompto is blown away when she mentions that she’s only a novice.
