!!Adeline "Addy" Martin
!!!Super High-School Level {{Sculptor|s}}
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/adelinewaistuppic_7778.png]]

Adeline is an energetic girl who became well-known after the {{sculptures}} collecting in her mother's backyard began to attract the attention of art collectors.

When confronted by Yukiko, Addy admitted to having killed Shinya in what she believed to be self-defense. She later becomes the chapter 5 murder victim, killed by blood loss from a slashed throat.
----
* ChildProdigy: Addy has been making figures nearly every day since childhood, and was first noticed professionally in middle school.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Blue hair and blue eyes.
* GenkiGirl: She’s rather energetic.
* DirtyCoward: She lies during the second trial about the file so she wouldn't be executed, and only confesses to Yukiko to save her reputation among the other students.
* DisappearedDad: She states in one of her ask memes that her father left when she was a small child.
* DotingParent: Her mother provides for her every want.
* ManslaughterProvocation: She killed Shinya in what she believed to be self-defense.
* NiceGirl: According to her profile, "She is also very personable and is good at making people like her in order to get a sale." But ''not'', apparently, nice enough to confess to being the second murderer to avoid Monobear crippling a random student as punishment for the students getting it wrong.
* TrueBlueFemininity: She’s traditionally feminine and her hair, her eyes, the straps on her apron and her skirt are all blue.
* YoungEntrepreneur: She sells her own clay sculptures and has been doing this since middle school.

!!Arisa Sato
!!!Super High-School Level Microbiologist
[[quoteright:174:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_msporr2om71srpkydo1_500_8456.jpg]]

Born out of wedlock, Arisa grew up in the city slums. Excelling in her studies led to her parentage being made known and getting moved to Japan on the government's time, where she works with the World Health Organization. Her current project is the Disease Hybridization Forecast and Impact Committee.

Responsible for murdering Mimi, and was correctly pinned as the culprit during the sixth trial.
----
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: She's very analytical and can get through stacks and stacks of data very quickly, which is useful since she's created and is now the leader of the Disease Hybridization Forecast and Impact Committee.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Arisa is shrunk down and placed in a terrarium. There's a hole in the terrarium, so if she could get to it, she could escape. But to do so, she must climb on various bacteria that appear. Two frogs with Monobear-style eyes suddenly appear, devouring the bacteria one by one. Arisa manages to escape until she gets to the very last bacteria, but then has no other escape route, and one of the frog's tongues finally latches onto Arisa and eats her.
* DisappearedDad: Arisa's father, Masaru Sato, wasn't around when she was growing up.
* HeroicBastard: She was born out of wedlock to a well-known male scientist and an unknown woman, and her parents never married, making her technically a "bastard". Now she's leading public-edge health research.
* InTheBlood: Arisa follows in the footsteps of her brilliant scientist father.
%%* ManipulativeBastard: Her fourth motive proves that this is a part of her, but it is as of yet unseen in character. Also, 'bastard' here is taken literally, as with the Heroic Bastard trope.
* PrimAndProperBun: Has her hair tied up in one, befitting her personality.
* OfficialCouple: With Hidehisa. Not that anything comes of it, however, since the love confession happens in the chapter 6 trial, which is also when Arisa is executed. However, they reunite in the afterlife.
* SelfMadeMan: Grew up in the slums, but excelled in her studies and consequently got moved to Japan to pursue microbiology further.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: In three different ways, no less. One, to atone for her role in instigating chapter 4's mistrial. Two, so the person she killed could be with her deceased lover. Three, so she could win Monobear's "Mastermind information motive" and then share that information with all her peers in order to help them.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: Arisa is always approaching things with a mature attitude, and to date has not had a breakdown of crying, anger, or any particularly unsuitable behavior. Logic seems to be easy for her, and she's been seen to be calling out others on unsuitable behaviors. Likely invoked by DisappearedDad and growing up on the wrong side of the tracks.
* WrongSideOfTheTracks: She was raised in the city slums.

!!Chris Peril
!!!Super High-School Level Stunt Driver
[[quoteright:217:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_mtcbrhoxhi1s1ljl0_1_8669.png]]

* AlmostOutOfOxygen In chapter 8's morgue investigation with Naoto and Hisae, he passes out due to smoke inhalation.
* AscendedExtra: Chris Peril was not originally accepted into the Doubt Academy White roleplay, but the creator of Barclay, the SHSL Deep-Sea Diver, unexpectedly had to resign from the roleplay for personal reasons, so Chris Peril was the lucky (or, given the subject matter of the roleplay, should that be unlucky?) guy chosen from previously submitted applications to take Barclay's place.
* BadassDriver: Is very talented behind the wheel of a car, as well as a few other vehicles. Began doing more dangerous stunts at age 15 and has upped the danger since.
* BandOfBrothers: Forms one with Naoto and Hisae after chapter 8.
* CoolMask: His helmet forms one as his visor covers his face. What does he look like underneath it? We just don't know… At least until Chapter 2.
* CoolHelmet: Wears a motorcycle helmet that matches his suit.
* DarkHorseVictory: Sort of, if "surviving" counts as a victory. Chris Peril's character wasn't even originally supposed to be ''in'' this game; his spot was originally taken by a SHSL Deep-Sea Diver named Barclay. Chris Peril was a last-minute replacement, but he's one of the people who survive to endgame.
* DramaticUnmask: When the students get chapter 2's culprit wrong, Chris Peril gets so frustrated that he throws off his helmet, revealing his face for the first time. He has brown hair, blue eyes, and freckles on his nose.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Picked up his love for driving from his father, who was a famous stock car racer at one point.
* NearDeathExperience: During chapter 8's morgue adventure, Chris inhales enough smoke to the point of his inner monologue quality beginning to degrade. It scared Hisae to a good degree.
* PrecisionFStrike: During the endgame, Chris condemns everyone who ''doesn't'' vote to bring their dead friends back, which includes Eiji, Hisae, and Jun. Then Chris informs them that the hard drives are leaving whether they like it or not, and if they want to disagree, "Try me, I fucking dare you." And just to add to the shock of his swearing, he says that ''while pulling a machine gun'' on the three dissenters to make sure they go along with the group's decision to save their dead friends.
* SendInTheSearchTeam: With Naoto and Hisae. During chapter 8, Naoto brought Hisae and Chris together to search inside of a secret room in the morgue to look for clues about the Mastermind. Things didn't go as planned, however, when Chris activated a tripwire that in turn started a fire. The search ends with Naoto and Chris unconscious and a blubbering Hisae.
* StageNames: His real name is Hideki Takahashi.
* XMustNotWin: In Chris Peril's case, it's "Monobear must not win." After the students get chapter 2's culprit wrong, resulting in Monobear picking a student to cripple in lieu of an execution, Chris Peril says Monobear won't win, Chris will die before he lets Monobear win.

!!Eiji Oshirou
!!!Super High-School Level Show Host
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_mvhydj51j91sd9xd7o1_500_4377.png]]

Eiji always loved to be the center of attention from childhood. He hosted his own extremely popular show, called "The Eiji O Show!" before quitting, desiring a normal school life. Instead, he was invited to Hope's Peak Academy.

Survives to endgame.
----
* AngerBornOfWorry: After trial 4, Eiji declares that he hates Larry and Kazuya the most after both offered to die (In Kazuya's case, YET AGAIN.). He then exits the area and punches the elevator out of anger.
* AttentionWhore: In an unusual example of this trope, he's ''required'' to be this, since it helps him in his SHSL talent of being a host. He actually stopped doing this shortly before being invited to Hope's Peak so he could have a normal school life.
* BathSuicide: Attempts this during chapter 8.
* BishieSparkle: This is mainly pertaining to his clothes and bright smile.
* BrokenPedestal: It turns out Kanon was his idol, so he is extremely apologetic when Kanon turns out to be chapter 3's culprit and must be executed.
* CampGay: He’s canonically gay and rather flamboyant.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Used to be part of a gang. Said gang once killed a girl.
* DoomMagnet: Literally every close friend he has made died! His first best friend, who didn't even go here died as well. Can you say cursed?
* DrivenToSuicide: The day the motive is given is also the day after Eiji learns of his mother's death. On top of this, he has fallen to despair due to several reasons related to the Spa. States in his suicide note that he has fallen to despair and is frightened that someone he cares for could be the mastermind, which he can't take.
%%* EternallyPearlyWhiteTeeth
%%* FreakOut
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: At the end of trial 3, when Eiji slapped Kazuya for his continued offer to die for everyone.
* GoodbyeCruelWorld: Sends Katsuya a suicide note before he hits the bath and attempts to end his life.
* HarmfulToMinors: According to the read more Eiji posted during chapter 4, he watched his friend Genki as she was stabbed to death by his cult. He was supposed to be next. That was, until the police came. It was too late for Genki, however.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Becomes this with Larry.
* HitMeDammit: In order to repair his friendship with Larry, Eiji asked him to punch him in the face and let him do the same during Chapter 5's Abnormal Days.
* ItsAllMyFault:
** How he feels about his friend dying in front of him when he was 12 years old. The truth is, he was chained to a desk and forced to watch as his best friend at the time was murdered.
** At the end of trial 6, he blames himself again, for not being a good friend to Arisa and Hidehisa.
** He blames himself before and after trial 7 as well, for not protecting Kazuya and Jaejin. He also believes that Jun and Yukiko killed because he wasn't a 'good enough friend'.
%%* {{Keet}}: Oftentimes this when least appropriate.
* LargeHam: About everything. Means what he says. When embarrassed, instead of saying something else or avoiding the subject, he'll talk about it in length, with more volume.
* TheMatchmaker: He seems to take notice when two of his close friends have romantic feelings for each other. This was evident in his last encounter with Tomiko and Kazuya in chapter 4.
* MissingMom: We find out in chapter 8 that she died sometime while Eiji was at school, thanks to a newspaper article in his room. His mom, Ishizu Oshirou, was the object of his obsessions since he was 12. He looked for her for a good 7 years.
* MoodSwinger: He tries to hide this with a professional smile, but he's horrible at hiding his emotions.
* NoIndoorVoice: He usually talks loud on the show, so he supposedly isn't used to talking normally.
* OfficialCouple: With Katsuya; they've even had a "night of passion" together, as we learn during Eiji's bout of survivor guilt after chapter 7's trial. Interestingly enough, however, a recent post has revealed that he very much cared about "his funny girl", meaning Koemi, and he still obsesses over her in his room and writes to her in his diary. It is possible that Eiji might have hooked up with Koemi instead if Koemi hadn't been the first murder victim.
* ParentalAbandonment: We find out when Himeji speaks to him in Chapter 3 that Eiji's mother left him, stating that she didn't need the family anymore. We find out in Chapter four that this was linked to why he joined the cult in the first place.
%%* PurelyAestheticGlasses: These come off before Chapter 5's trial after Eiji asked Larry to punch him in the face.
* RealMenWearPink: Is rather domestic and independent, considering the fact that his father is never home. He has to cook, clean and take care of his younger brother most of the time.
* TheRival: Eventually becomes this to Naoto. There's no real personal event that sets it off; they just frequently make opposite decisions and eventually can't stand each other. Surprisingly, this does ''not'' result in either of them killing the other; in fact, they both survive to endgame.
* RousingSpeech: Gives an angry one backing Marian up to Shinya and Kazuya when the latter two offer to sacrifice themselves in Trial One.
* ScarsAreForever: Eiji has scars down his back due to cult self infliction activities. This was to bring them 'closer to the spirits'.
* SecurityCling: Jumps into Larry's arms upon discovering Kyo's death.
* SurvivorGuilt: After chapter 7's trial, Eiji feels guilty because he was enjoying a "night of passion" with Katsuya while his friends were being murdered.
%%* WideEyedIdealist

!!Fumiko 'Fumi' Wakahisa
!!!Super High-School Level Food Critic
[[quoteright:220:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_mtdizjgcic1s2009u_2371.png]]

The food snob to lead all food snobs, Fumiko adores all things food. She is feared all over the world by those in the culinary world, as a review from her is the ultimate authority.

She's the first culprit; she murders Koemi, but the students manage to correctly figure out it was her.
----
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Has long black hair, and can be rather cold and authoritative.
* BigEater: Which makes her better at her SHSL talent of being a food critic.
* CausticCritic: Which makes her better at her SHSL talent of being a food critic.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Fumiko is executed as the first culprit by being sent to a giant table full of food, befitting her SHSL talent as Food Critic. There is a giant Monobear at the end of the table holding a knife and fork eagerly, as though anticipating his meal. Fumiko tries to get off the table, but the tablecloth suddenly becomes a "treadmill" and forcibly drags her over to the giant Monobear, who stabs her to death with his fork.
* TheEngineer: Very minor example, she can repair household appliances.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Her ultimate fate, because she's executed by a giant Monobear stabbing her to death with a fork.
* TheInspectorIsComing: She ''is'' the inspector.
* ItsAllMyFault: Being the first killer, Fumiko blames herself for starting the chains of deaths.
* MustMakeAmends: With Koemi in the afterlife, as she was the one who killed her.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: In the afterlife, Fumiko has a moment like this in chapter 4, because chapter 4's trial was ultimately decided by a tiebreaker vote from the dead students--and Fumiko was one of the people who voted for Ritsuka, who was ultimately convicted but turned out to be ''innocent''. That means Fumiko contributed to the innocent Ritsuka being killed.
* OfficialCouple: Becomes this with Takahiro in the afterlife, although this wasn't revealed until Doubt Academy White was over and the "dead students blog" was opened to the public.
* PickyEater: [[RuleOfThree Which makes her better at her SHSL talent of being a food critic.]]
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: Wears these,
* SuperSenses: She has an exceptionally developed sense of taste. [[OverlyLongGag Which makes her better at her SHSL talent of being a food critic.]]
* SweetTooth: Well, more like an ''Everything'' tooth, but she does like sweet things.

!!Hidehisa Maruhashi
!!!Super High-School Level Trapeze Artist
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hidehisa_5189.png]]

Hidehisa accidentally discovered his talent for the trapeze while playing at his parent's circus, Mallum's Wonder Emporium. Though he dreamed of being an Olympic gymnast, He began working at his parents instead.

The tenth victim of Doubt Academy White, killed by impalement with a pickaxe.
----
%%* AbnormalLimbRotationRange: Hidehisa was almost considered as a Super High School Contortionist.
* AmbiguouslyGay: He’s pretty flamboyant, but he also makes a love confession to Arisa, who is female. Honestly, we just don't know.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: To Arisa Sato, just before Arisa is executed in chapter 6. At least he gets his feelings returned for a brief moment, though, because they kiss.
* CircusBrat: Hidehisa was born and raised in his parent's circus.
* DiesWideOpen: His corpse is found with wide open eyes.
* FollowInMyFootsteps: He actually wanted to be an Olympic gymnast, but he couldn't say no to his parents who owned a travelling circus, so he ended up becoming a SHSL Trapeze Artist.
* JackOfAllTrades: Out of [[ConstantlyCurious curiosity]], Hisa has worked in every performing aspect of the family business and has some skill in them.
* MasterOfTheMixedMessage: His profile, actually, not he himself. His profile reads, "As a showman by trade, Hidehisa is quite the charismatic character. That "dazzling” personality of his has gotten him places... ''if y’know what I mean''." This could be innuendo, or it could be referring to something completely innocent. It was deliberately left vague.
* OfficialCouple: With Arisa Sato. Not that anything comes of it, however, since the love confession happens in the chapter 6 trial, which is also when Arisa is executed. However, they are reunited in the afterlife.
* SkilledButNaive: Has some skill in many parts of circustry, especially at the trapeze, but he’s also pretty innocent and naive.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: His DarkSecret is his fear of heights.

!!Himeji Sakakibara
!!!Super High-School Level Crossdresser
[[quoteright:260:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eb3pg87_8260.png]]

He became famous for his looks and great fashion sense. His public persona is rather elegant and refined, but in reality Himeji is a vulgar and loud-mouthed egotist. Deep down though, he can be a good person. Deep, deep down.

Is killed during a failed attempt to escape the park along with Yoon-ji.

----
* BitchInSheepsClothing: His media persona is refined and elegant, but in all actuality he is nothing like that.
* ClusterFBomb: Himeji's reaction to Takahiro's death is to mumble "Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck" to himself.
* CrazyJealousGuy: He gets ''really'' angry when Hisae interrupts his conversation with Kiyoshi.
* EffeminateMisogynisticGuy: He’s a crossdresser, but he’s also quite vulgar and goes nuts when Hisae interrupts he and Kyoshi’s conversation.
* TheFashionista: He’s rather fashionable.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: But deep, deep, deep down, he really is a good person.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Maybe not “supernatural” but his eyes are gold.

!!Hisae Kojima
!!!Super High-School Level Body Piercer
[[quoteright:281:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hisaekojima111_7302.png]]

Born into a family of body modifiers, Hisae obtained her license at the young age of 14. Many people seek her out to do their piercings, if only to say that they got a piercing from her.

Survives to endgame.
----
%%* AccidentalHero: She saved Chris Peril's life in chapter 8.
* BandOfBrothers: Becomes part of one with Naoto and Chris after chapter 8.
* DaddysGirl: Minor example: she became a SHSL Body Piercer because her father shared his trade with her.
* FollowInMyFootsteps: Everyone in Hisae's family has "learn a body modification trade" as practically a rite of passage. None of them have any problem with this, and in Hisae's case, her body modification trade turned out to be piercings, which she's Super High-School Level good at.
* HeavySleeper: She's capable of falling asleep in any position.
* InelegantBlubbering: She’s reduced to a blubbering mess in Chapter 8, after her fear of fire gets triggered.
* LazyBum: After the body of Kyo is announced, the sprites used depict Hisae wearing her pajamas. It becomes a common theme in the investigations following, with the exception of Mimi's. It's also revealed that she normally wears contacts, but ceased wearing them in favor of her glasses.
* TheMedic: A minor example; in her profile, it says she can only cure infections, but it's revealed in chapter 8 that she is also trained in CPR.
* NotSoStoic: While normally stony-face, she breaks down in tears after a letter Kiyoshi gives her. Does so again in chapter 8 when faced with Naoto and Chris's close call with death.
* SendInTheSearchTeam: With Naoto and Chris.
* TheStoic: She doesn’t tend to emote much.
* ThereIsOnlyOneBed: With Kiyoshi on two occasions: once after the 2nd motive is announced, in his bedroom; and after the 4th motive is announced, in her bedroom.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Chapter 8 revealed that Hisae is afraid of fire.

!!Jaejin Kinjo
!!!Super High-School Level Maknae
[[quoteright:242:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yedz6mb_9375.png]]

The youngest member of the eight-member idol group '[=PLAN8=]'. Don't let his fresh face fool you, though; his quick feet, sharp tongue, and incredible passion make him one of the greatest male idols in the industry.

The eighth victim of Doubt Academy White, killed by epinephrine-induced heart failure.
----
* BerserkButton: When Larry tries to derail the vote in chapter 3 on the grounds of not enough evidence, this is the second time he's done this, and Jaejin finally ''blows up'' at him. His face turns red and he screams at Larry for accusing them of jumping to conclusions when he didn't do any of the investigation himself.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: In chapter 3's trial, Jaejin gives a nasty to speech to Kanon, because Jaejin believes Kanon is the culprit. Even Jaejin's sprites are drawn with angrier than usual expressions.
* HeroicBSOD: A minor example: Monobear's second motive is to threaten to end a random student's career with an injury unless a murder takes place. Jaejin is the most badly affected by the announcement, because given his talent, ''any injury at all'' could ruin him, from a broken leg to even a broken finger.
* IdolSinger: He's a member of an idol group. But it's not his SHSL talent since, unlike [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc Sayaka Maizono]]'s SHSL talent of being an Idol Singer, Jaejin isn't proficient at idol singing but rather is proficient at being "the youngest member of a group", which is what the Korean word "Maknae" means. He seems to be the most skilled at dancing.
* ItWasAGift: His sister gifted him one of his two Pluto symbol necklaces before leaving for his idol training, which Jaejin claims is his GoodLuckCharm. He later gifts the necklace to Naoto Ueyama, and receives a scarf in return.
* TheMatchmaker: In Chapter 5, Eiji talks to Jaejin about relationship advice. Jaejin ends up giving him a big speech, telling Eiji that can can talk to Katsuya and share his feelings. He even trades a capsule item with Eiji so he can do it.
* OfficialCouple: With Naoto, until Jaejin is murdered in chapter 7.
* RealMenWearPink: He's wearing a pinkish-purple Pluto necklace, and his eyes are pinkish-purple.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: After the students incorrectly vote for Ritsuka in chapter 4, Jaejin tells all his classmates in a long speech that they suck, because one, Jaejin himself didn't vote for Ritsuka this round, and two, Jaejin has always voted correctly so far. He was right to vote for Fumiko in chapter 1, he was right to vote for Addy in chapter 2 (although the students overruled him and voted it a suicide), he was right to vote for Kanon in chapter 3, and he was right about Yukiko being chapter 4's culprit. Jaejin works hard and has correct instincts, so those should have been allowed to take precedence over the students throwing out evidence because they thought the evidence was circumstantial.
* StepfordSmiler: A benign example, since he isn't always the cute maknae everyone loves, but can easily slip into that persona since "Made for TV" is one of his skills.

!!Jun Shinobu
!!!Super High-School Level Game Developer
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/p2wagc1_9637.png]]

Mostly doing {{Role playing Game}}s and Visual Novels, Jun excels in storytelling more than technical gameplay, though he does create games for all genres. Despite being gifted with words, he often comes across as shy and not very talkative.

After the second trial ends with a mistrial over a mistaken suicide, Monobear declares he'll act out the motive and randomly cripple one of the students for life. Jun's the one chosen, and has his eyes gouged out.

In chapter 7, Jun confesses to Jaejin's murder, but is exonerated due to someone else winning more votes than him, winning Monobear's "immunity" motive.

Survives to endgame.
----
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: Upon learning that he's about to be crippled, he gives everyone a speech to inspire them, and included in that speech is a confession that he loves Yukiko, "Milady". He loves everything about her, would be willing to give her the sun and moon, and would she consider going out with him?
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: He thinks in game tropes, although this is somewhat [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] as he’s more shy and quiet that what this trope usually entails.
* EyeScream: When Monobear punishes the students after the second trial by crippling one of them, poor Jun ''gets his eyes pecked out by crows.''
* HeroicBSOD: Following his blinding, he struggles with feeling useless and worthless.
* KarmaHoudini: He murders Jaejin in chapter 7, but because Yukiko received more "total votes" for Yukiko's separate murder, Jun wins Monobear's "immunity motive" and thus not only gets off scot-free for murdering Jaejin, but cannot become a victim for one more chapter. Then he survives to endgame.
* NakedFirstImpression: Minor example. Upon meeting Jaejin and going back to his room to clean up, Jun accidentally exposes himself to his new friend.
* PaintingTheFourthWall: His posts sometimes include graphics resembling game text windows. Making new friends is signified with "Congratulations!! A New Party Member Has Been Added!"; a death means "This Route Is Now Locked!!"; his interruption is "That option is unavailable!!"
%%* PlayfulHacker: Jun dabbles.
* PrecisionFStrike: His first reaction to Takahiro's death-by-Monobear is to drop an f-bomb.
* OfficialCouple: With Yukiko. However, this is cut short in chapter 7 when Yukiko is executed for murdering Kazuya. And Jun can't even be with Yukiko in death, because Jun murdered Jaejin and successfully won Monobear's "immunity" motive.

Gifted with supernatural sensitivities from birth, Kanon has gained both positive and negative attention for her ability to commune with the dead.

Technically responsible for Kyo's murder -- or rather, the spirit Yuu Hideyoshi killed him while possessing her. Her classmates pinned it on her.
----
* BlindWithoutEm: Kanon has extremely poor vision, and should probably be wearing glasses at all times. She doesn't though.
* ChildProdigy: Kanon has been able to speak to the dead since birth.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Both her eyes and her hair are a purplish-white.
%%* CreepyDoll: Her stuffed rabbit definitely qualifies.
* CreepyGood: Kanon puts out a strange aura that creeps people out, but she's really not all that bad. Then it's [[DoubleSubversion doubly subverted]]. One, it turns out Kanon is chapter 3's murderer, subverting the "good" part of "creepy good"... but two, ''that'' is subverted when it turns out the real murderer is the spirit who forcibly possessed Kanon; Kanon herself was innocent and had no knowledge of what her body did.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Hers is set in a haunted house, in a room filling with poison gas. The only door out leads to ''something'' that pulls her inside and slams it shut behind her, leaving her stuffed bunny to soak in the blood seeping beneath the door. What's left of her body was stuffed into a second bunny that was tossed back into the room in the end.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: She carries around a stuffed bunny for undisclosed and mysterious reasons.
* ISeeDeadPeople: She can communicate with the dead.
* MotiveRant: After Kanon's declared to be the murderer, Yuu takes over and reveals they were really responsible, and rants about how this was the only way to protect her.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: In the afterlife, Kanon has a moment like this in chapter 4, because chapter 4's trial was ultimately decided by a tiebreaker vote from the dead students--and Kanon was one of the people who voted for Ritsuka, who was ultimately convicted but turned out to be ''innocent''. That means Kanon contributed to the innocent Ritsuka being killed.
* MysticalWhiteHair: Has purplish-white hair and is extremely talented when it comes to the supernatural.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Yuu decided the best way to save Kanon was to force her graduation by possessing her and murdering three students. This only succeeded in getting Kyo and Kanon killed. Whoops.
* NothingIsScarier: None of the witnesses get a clear view of what murders Kanon, as it takes place behind a closed door. They only have her screams, horrific sounds, and her blood seeping underneath the doorway to go by.
* OfficialCouple: With Shinya in the afterlife, though this wasn't revealed until Doubt Academy White was over and the "dead students blog" was opened to the public.
* SlasherSmile: Yuu sports one while gloating about how good Kyo's blood felt on 'their' hands.
* SympatheticMurderer: Yuu may have been willing to kill, but ''Kanon'' wasn't, and is horrified upon realizing what happened.
* TakeMeInstead: Tries to take the rap for killing Shinya in chapter 2's trial.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Well, as far as Yuu's concerned, they killed for a damn good reason, to keep her safe.
* WhatDidIDoLastNight: Does not recall what happened around the time the murder of Kyo occurred. Making matters worse, some of her beads were discovered in a trash can near the crime scene. It turns out it's because a spirit possessed her and murdered Kyo, so from a certain point of view, she can't remember what happened because ''she was Kyo's murderer''.
* WillingChanneler: Kanon's specialty is possession-based communication with the dead.

* TakeMeInstead:
** Near the end of Trial One, Kazuya tries to offer himself in Shinya's place after Shinya tries to get himself executed.
** He does this again in Trial Two, after Kanon tries to do so first.
** He continues to offer himself up in subsequent trials. It really starts to get on his classmates' nerves after a while.
** Once caught, his murderer points at this habit as some sort of sick justification, claiming she just gave him what he wanted.

* PurelyAestheticGlasses: The glasses are there mostly just because they run with her heart motif.
* SacrificialLamb: Is the first murder victim, and the fact that it happened to a comedian sets the tone for the grim atmosphere of the mutual killing game.
* ShoutOut: In the afterlife, at one point Koemi shouts "DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH!"...which is accompanied by a picture of Koemi doing the "interrupting" pose from ''VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair'' that usually preceded a Cross Sword segment.
* StandUpComedy: Her SHSL talent, along with all other forms of comedy.
* StressVomit: In the afterlife, seeing the gruesome nature of how chapter 4's murder victim was killed causes Koemi to throw up a few crackers and some tea and water.
* TechnicolorEyes: They’re bright pink.
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: Everyone saw Koemi as a cute little girl (even some who only knew her as a stranger), so most of the students are royally pissed off that she was the first murder victim. The only ones who ''aren't'' pissed off are either the killer, or the ones who are calm enough to focus on finding out who the killer is and not care too much who it was who died specifically.

He came from a long line of renowned classical musicians and was classically trained since he was in diapers. Despite this, he gravitated toward metal music and was disowned by his family for betraying the classical ways. He proved himself by quickly becoming a highly successful musician, acquiring a large fanbase in Japan and steadily gaining listeners overseas.

He's the chapter 3 murder victim, killed by blood loss caused by multiple stab wounds.
----
%%* BerserkButton: Yakuza, people throwing away their lives and the mastermind.
* BlackSheep: In a family of classically trained musicians, Kyo loves metal. He loves metal a lot.
* ChairmanOfTheBrawl: Loves threatening Monobear with the cafe's chairs.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Subjected to heavy arsenic poisoning, vomits blood multiple times while confronting the perpetrator, and is riddled with stab wounds in his chest and abdomen, some of which were inflicted post-mortem.
* DidNotGetTheGirl: As we learn from the "afterlife" blog, it turns out Kyo had serious, legitimate feelings for Yukiko, which went nowhere because Yukiko's heart belongs to Jun.
* DiesWideOpen: His corpse is locked in a gaze of horror until Yukiko closes his eyes.
%%* EagleEyeDetection: For body language.
* GoOutWithABang: If Monobear was serious in his comment about Yukiko selfishly hiding away their "passionate necking", then apparently right before Kyo was murdered, he and Yukiko were making out. But then subverted; what ''actually'' turns out to have happened is that Kyo gave Yukiko a kiss after they bonded, but Yukiko still has feelings for Jun, so she left without doing anything else.
* GratuitousGerman: Breaks into this when angered. For one example, when Monobear's "third motive" turns out to just be a reminder of the fact that they'll be trapped for the rest of their lives, Kyo starts shouting at Monobear how ridiculous it is that they need another reminder, and then he says, "Ich werde einfach töten dich, du Stück Scheiße. I’ll find you soon enough, Bär." This means approximately "I'm just going to kill you, you piece of shit. I'll find you soon enough, bear."
* HairTriggerTemper: Almost attacks Monobear with a chair during the first motive announcement, then snaps at both Mimi and Shinya during the first trial. Later threatens to knock Kazuya out during the second trial in response to his attempt at self-sacrifice. Also throws a chair at Monobear during the third motive announcement.
* HeadphonesEqualIsolation: Subverted, as they're actually hearing aids; he's practically deaf without them.
* HeavyMetal: His preferred genre of music.
* HeroicBSOD: Suffers from this upon discovering Shinya's corpse, rendering him unable to properly investigate for the second trial.
%%* HeterosexualLifePartners: Becomes this with Shinya during chapter 2. Too bad Shinya dies that week.
%%* HumiliationConga: In the afterlife, Mimi puts him through one of these because he lost a bet with her.
* IllKillYou: Openly states that he will find and kill the person behind Monobear after it is declared that Jun will be crippled.
* MaddenIntoMisanthropy: In the afterlife, when Yukiko is executed, Kyo finally snaps and angrily yells at all his classmates that if they love killing innocents so much and don't understand that finding the Mastermind is all that's important, then hope is wasted on them and they're as good as dead.
* MeaningfulName: The kanji for 'Otonomiya' translates to 'Palace of Sound'.
* ParentalAbandonment: Kyo's parents disowned him and forced him to live on the streets, all because he liked metal.

* StreetUrchin: Before Kyo became famous he lived on the streets and dumpster dived to eat.
%%* ThousandYardStare: Develops this after Chapter 2.

Known as the "Golden Boy of Coney Island", Larry is an American raised in New York, who began to tour the world once he became famous. As a result his grades dropped, and taking the opportunity to enroll in a Japanese school while he was there on tour, Larry became eligible for acceptance into Hope's Peak.

Responsible for murdering Mitsuko, and was correctly pinned as the culprit during the eighth trial.
----
* AfroAsskicker: Is the SHSL boxer and has a big puffy Afro.
* BerserkButton: When Renée is murdered in chapter 4, Larry spends three entire paragraphs screaming at his classmates for whoever the "coward" of a murderer is to show himself/herself so he can do nasty things to them.
* BigApplesauce: He was raised in New York.
%%* BigOlEyebrows
* BookDumb: In his backstory, but this was only temporary. His world tour of boxing caused his grades to slip while he was on the Japan leg of the tour, so he put himself in a Japanese school to fix his grades so they wouldn't disrupt his tour. This is what put him in the running for scouting by a prestigious academy.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Rigged up to a Rock-Em-Sock-Em-Robots parody, with a Monobear with a controller behind him, forcing the robotic arms to which he's chained to repeatedly punch a giant steel Monobear robot, which breaks Larry's arms. Then the giant steel Monobear robot counterattacks, repeatedly pummeling Larry before finally uppercutting Larry's head off.
* DespairEventHorizon: Renée's death in chapter 4 causes Larry to decide he won't be saving anyone this time, and it's going to feel so good when someday he tears Monobear apart and stomps on his corpse.
%%* FunnyAfro

* ImportantHaircut: Shaves off his afro in chapter 6.
* MurderByMistake: He's chapter 8's murderer, but he wasn't actually gunning for Mitsuko, he was trying to kill ''Naoto'' instead. Unfortunately when Mitsuko showed up instead, he had to follow through on his murder plan or Mitsuko would tell someone about his intentions.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: It turns out Larry was wrong about chapter 4's culprit, but the class voted for his incorrect guess largely thanks to a great deal of work he did in implicating who he thought was the culprit, and an innocent person was executed. This trope is Larry's reaction both to this innocent execution, and to the fact that now that his best efforts to undo his own damage have been ignored, he now knows what he himself put Naoto and Jaejin through when he previously shunted their efforts aside.
* RousingSpeech: Gave one in the first trial in response to being accused. Everyone was so moved that he wasn't ever brought up as a suspect again.
* SherlockScan: Skilled at reading body language, since he's a "counter puncher" in boxing terms.
* SuperReflexes: One of his skills is an extremely fast reaction time, which improves his boxing.
* ToThePain: When Renée is murdered in chapter 4, Larry threatens that when he finds out who killed her, he is going to tear the murderer's head off, reach inside the bloody stump the murderer calls a neck, and turn the murderer inside out with his bare hands. Then he will tear the murderer into so many pieces that there won't be enough left for Monobear to execute.
* UnderdogsNeverLose: His backstory is that he was an underdog boxer, but he defeated a professional boxer in a three-round match for charity (it helped that he had already shown a natural aptitude for the sport in amateur tournaments). That's what got him started on touring the world and honing what was to be his SHSL talent: boxing.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He killed Mitsuko, but he was actually trying to kill Naoto, because he thought Naoto was a well-intentioned extremist willing to go to absurd ends to find the Mastermind. But as Larry freely admits, the manner in which he chose to try to "stop" Naoto turned Larry himself into a well-intentioned extremist.

Turns out to be the culprit in Chapter 5, having killed Adeline.
----
* CloudCuckoolander: She engages in strange antics and has an unreadable demeanor, which can sometimes make her seem intimidating.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Executed by being sent out into a snowy field with a flag, befitting her profession as Winter Guard. However, Monobear appears in a parka, grinning evilly and leveling a rifle at her. He repeatedly fires at her, but Marian gracefully dodges almost all of the bullets. However, one bullet finally hits her leg, causing her to accidentally throw her flag up into the air... and then the flag comes down and impales her to death.

She angrily reminds everyone that they promised to avenge the murder victim, which they can't do if they're dead, are they just going to give up easily because they were wrong a couple times?

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_mvthhd9rgy1s5mwbu_6648.png]]

Vain and haughty, Mimi was born into a very traditional Japanese family, who instilled proper views into their child from a young age. Despite her mother's wishes for her to become a maiko, Mimi insisted on working with her father, despite the fact that it was frowned upon for a woman to work in the kitchen.

The sixth victim of the mutual killing game, killed by asphyxiation.
----
* AgentScully: Never mind the whole being trapped in a spa by evil robotic stuffed animals or any of the other weirdness and horrors she's been subjected to. Mimi outright ''refuses'' to believe in spirits and possession.
* BerserkButton: Don't tell Mimi to her face that you think less of her for being a woman, whether in general or because you think the "Itamae" profession should be restricted to men.
%%* BrutalHonesty: Mimi will ''not'' mince words.
* DaddysGirl: Enough to take up her father's profession as an Itamae.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Mimi can be haughty and arrogant, but when she sees the manner in which the chapter 4 murder victim was killed, she calls the murderer cowardly, repulsive, and despicable. Why was such an act of treachery necessary, when the victim was already a weak girl and easy to overpower in the first place?
* HeroicBSOD: Following Ritsuka's execution. It takes several days before she ventures out of her room again.
%%* InsufferableGenius: She can be this sometimes.
* IntelligenceEqualsIsolation: Mimi was never very popular among her peers, since she is arrogant and aloof.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Takes the mutual killing game very seriously, and isn't afraid to point out that trusting others in such an environment can lead to disaster.
* LonelyDollGirl: She was this as a child; she didn't mind being unpopular among her peers since she could play with her dolls instead.
* LoveEpiphany: Mimi finally realizes that her feelings for Ritsuka are ''love'' only after Ritsuka's already kissed her. Amusingly, it is not accompanied by any epiphany that Ritsuka, whom she thinks is a man, is actually female.
* MyGirlIsNotASlut: This is why Mimi's mother wanted her to become a "maiko"; Mimi's mother believes that modern women lack self-respect or any sense of right and wrong, and are willing to bare their flesh like their flesh is something for the autumn wind to batter about. Meanwhile, Mimi is different since her mother made her wear much less revealing clothing.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Mimi indirectly helped Ritsuka and Yukiko get fingered as possible culprits. When the vote turns Ritsuka's way, and Monobear declares that they are about to execute an ''innocent'' Ritsuka, Mimi feels horrible because she has sentenced the one person she cared for to death. Amusingly, the seriousness of her remorse is mitigated somewhat by the fact that she still thinks Ritsuka is male.
* NoSympathy:
** To the murder of Kyo in chapter 3's trial. She had despised Kyo, and might even have murdered him herself if there had been a stronger motive.
** Also no sympathy to Kanon, after she turns out to be Kyo's murderer. When a spirit claims to have possessed Kanon and thus to be the true culprit, Mimi believes Kanon is merely lying to get out of punishment, making up a "pathetic" sob story, and Mimi thus gives Kanon an angry speech about fooling everyone and how she should just atone for her crime with a well-deserved execution. She even makes a point about how even though Kyo was a "hog", he at least deserves to have his death be atoned for.
* NotHelpingYourCase: Her reaction when accused of being the murderer in Chapter 4. More precisely [[UngratefulBastard the way she treats somebody trying to defend her]].
* OfficialCouple: With Ritsuka, so she doesn't take it well when the innocent Ritsuka is incorrectly voted as the culprit in chapter 4.
* PetTheDog: For all her prickliness, she helped Larry with his injuries after discovering them following the second trial.
* PickyEater: A necessary trait for her to have, actually, since it improves her palate and lets her prepare better food.
%%* {{Pride}}: Of the seven deadly sins, this is the one most prevalent in Mimi.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Fully capable of telling anyone at a moment's notice just how much she feels they suck, at length. Normally while keeping a serene expression.
* SpeakIllOfTheDead: Jeers at Kyo Otonomiya's corpse after their murder is discovered.
* StayInTheKitchen: A weird [[InvertedTrope inverted]] example: her mother wanted her to be traditionally feminine and ''not'' work in the kitchen, but she insisted on taking up her father's profession as an Itamae to prove that women could cook in a Japanese kitchen and not ruin the food.
* SupremeChef: But unlike [[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair Teruteru Hanamura]], her SHSL talent is not "Chef" or "Cook" but "Itamae", so she's only a supreme chef if she's in a Japanese kitchen specifically.
* TranquilFury: She generally keeps a straight face while tamping down her anger, attacking others with barbed words.
* UngratefulBastard: During Chapter 4's trial, Arisa tries to defend Mimi by stating she wasn't strong enough to kill poor Renee. Mimi takes this as a personal slight and slings some papers at her would-be defender's head before going into a TranquilFury.
* WrongGenreSavvy: She fixates on Kanon following their false confession to the second murder, convinced that they're actually responsible for what happened. This is mostly because she doesn’t believe in ghosts.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Borderline. She's graceful and conducts her work with great poise, she's devoted to her family (or at least her father), her speech is delivered in polite diction, she's devoted to a traditional Japanese profession, she dresses in traditional Japanese clothing, etc. The "borderline" part comes into play because she is neither submissive nor usually very nice.
* YouthfulFreckles: Has some clustered on her face. At one point though, we briefly get to see Mimi in a towel, and it turns out she has freckles all over her body, not just her face.

!!Mitsuko Iwasaki
!!!Super High-School Level Poetess
[[quoteright:177:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_mu679rkl5n1sfes92o1_500_7156.png]]

A polite and charming young lady who prefers to keep herself out of the public eye. She was born into a highly prestigious family, and her works have become well known around the country, although her name has not.

The ninth victim of Doubt Academy White, killed by asphyxiation.
----
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Blonde hair, yellowish eyes.
%%* DeathByIrony: Back in chapter 3, Mitsuko expressed no real discontent at Monobear threatening to leave all the students in the spa forever, since in Mitsuko's opinion being trapped in a luxury spa forever isn't really that bad of a fate. Unfortunately in chapter 9 she's a murder victim herself, so maybe the spa wasn't ''that'' beneficial to her.
* EagleEyeDetection: Very meticulous with an eye for detail.
* {{Poetry}}: Her SHSL talent is that she’s skilled at writing poetry.
* ReclusiveArtist: [[invoked]]Her poems are famous, but ''she'' is not. It's common for people to know her poems but not her ''name'', and she prefers it that way, keeping herself out of the public eye.
* {{Unishment}}: Monobear's third "motive" is simply to remind the students that if no killing occurs, they will spend the rest of their lives trapped here, instead of chasing their bright futures. But Mitsuko considers the motive to be this trope, since as she sarcastically muses to herself, "Oh, how awful! Being trapped in a beautiful and luxurious resort! What a horrific life we will lead...!"
* YamatoNadeshiko: She has a reputation as a "perfect young lady" due to her charming behavior.

!!Naoto Ueyama
!!!Super High-School Level Astrologist
[[quoteright:190:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_mqw7xwa3is1sds2ceo1_500_2961.png]]

An enthusiast who claims to be able to see everything about a person in the stars, simply by knowing their birthday. He is often mistaken for some kind of cult leader.

Survives to endgame.
----
* AlmostOutOfOxygen: During chapter 8's morgue investigation with Chris and Hisae, Naoto passes out due to lack of proper ventilation in a room on fire.
* {{Astrologer}}: His SHSL talent is that he’s an astrologist.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: He has the ability to "theorize from many different angles", thanks to astrology giving him an open mind.
* BandOfBrothers: Forms this with Chris and Hisae after chapter 8. Although Hisae is a girl.
* BerserkerTears: Goes into a sobbing fit when he finds Jaejin's body in the garden in Chapter 7. He makes a full out monologue about this.
* BrokenTears: Sheds this when he finds Jaejin’s body.
%%* HerHeartWillGoOn: Despite Jaejin's death in Chapter 7.
* AHeroIsBorn: He claims his birth was the product of "three miracles in succession".
* InelegantBlubbering: He’s a sobbing mess when he finds Jaejin’s dead body in the garden.
* NervesOfSteel: Has remained calm throughout all the trials, never blowing up at anybody. In chapter 4 in particular, Naoto stepped up to gather a lot of evidence. His nerves finally took a hit when he found out that he had been instrumental in setting up a Mastermind vote that voted for the wrong person.
%%* NeverGotToSayGoodbye: To Jaejin.
* OfficialCouple: With Jaejin, until Jaejin is murdered in chapter 7.
%%* OnlySaneMan: Shares this status with Tomiko; he's never been involved in his classmates' arguments. Unfortunately subverted when he leads his classmates into voting for ''the wrong person'' as the Mastermind.
* TheRival: Eventually becomes this to Eiji. There's no real personal event that sets it off; they just frequently make opposite decisions and eventually can't stand each other. Surprisingly, this does ''not'' result in either of them killing the other; in fact, they both survive to endgame.
%%* ScamReligion
* SendInTheSearchTeam: With Chris and Hisae.
* SherlockScan: Can accurately read others' personalities based on their birthday, or if he doesn't know their birthday, on his own average intuition.
%%* StarCrossedLovers: Jaejin and Naoto's romance is a tragic one.
%%* SurvivorGuilt

!!Renée Petit
!!!Super High-School Level Ballerina
[[quoteright:169:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/renee_7023.png]]

Renée was introduced to ballet at a young age due to her mother, a world-famous ballerina. When her mother retired due to injury, Renée quickly proved herself even more skilled and she had been. She generally performs solo, without a company.

She's the chapter 4 murder victim, killed by evisceration.
----
* AbusiveParents: Implied. A talentswap AU on her journal features her mother constantly berating her for not having enough skill to become a dancer, and deriding her when she discovers another talent. During the third trial, she has a {{Flashback}} to somebody calling her a 'stupid, useless girl', and nearly responds automatically with "Yes mama, I'm sorry."
* {{Ballet}}: Her SHSL talent is that she’s talented at ballet.
* CareerEndingInjury: Not her, but her mother, Noémi, who used to be a world famous ballerina before an ankle injury forced her to retire (and put her in a wheelchair to boot).
* ChildProdigy: Renée has always been excellent at ballet even when she was a child.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Her murderer posed her as if she was dancing, with her hands tied up over her head... and then savagely beat her and ripped her intestines out.
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: Not a major example, but Renée's sprites are always drawn with really dull-looking eyes, as if she's always really tired.
%%* ExtremeDoormat
%%* GratuitousFrench: Employed whenever Renée is freaked out or embarrassed.
* GuttedLikeAFish: Her body is found with the stomach sliced open.
* HearingVoices: It seems to be her mother, who insults her and tells her to stop being weak and kill someone, especially when Renée is stressed.
* ObliviousToLove: It takes Renée a long time to figure out that Larry is flirting with her. When she does? Cue the CrushBlush.
* {{Omniglot}}: Because of her travels around the world, she is fluent in English, Japanese, and French, and at least pretty good at several other European languages.
* PrecisionFStrike :In the afterlife, when the survivors are contemplating their SadisticChoice, Renée screams at the living students, twice, that she and the rest of her classmates are not ''fucking'' dead!
* PunnyName: Renée's last name is French for small.
* StageMom: Minor example; Renée has been a member of several companies, but the arrangements never lasted long because her mother was never satisfied with them.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Renée is a ballet prodigy, just like her mother was, and she's world-famous, just like her mother... but in her profile Renée is actually described as being ''better'' at ballet than her mother ever was.
* SurpassedTheTeacher: Well, surpassed her ''mother'' anyway. Renée's mother used to be a world-famous ballerina, and now her daughter is a more skilled ballerina than she is.
* SwitchToEnglish: Renée employs this trope a lot, as she feels more comfortable speaking English than Japanese.
* TrueBlueFemininity: She’s dressed in a purplish-blue leotard.

!!Ritsuka Hojo
!!!Super High-School Level Samurai
[[quoteright:289:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_mtjxnddc2f1s21ukl_2246.png]]

She gained her samurai skills in her family's dojo at a very young age. Her tomboyish, rough-and-tumble attitude is hidden by her family's strictly traditional etiquette. She feels pressured to succeed so she can meet her family's expectations and not be overshadowed by her two successful older siblings.

Tragically, she was falsely convicted of Renee's murder.
----
* ActionGirl: Fits this due to being a samurai, though a lot of people wouldn’t guess that she’s a girl at first glance.
* AcquittedTooLate: The first instance of a living classmate being falsely charged with murder.
%%* AfraidOfBlood: We only find this out after a murder has already occurred. It's her reaction to Koemi being murdered.
* BaitAndSwitch: Her execution. It's set up so she, and therefore the audience, believes that the "method of execution" is whatever horrible monster is chasing her. Actually, she's executed by swords that pop out of the floor and wall. So what was chasing her, then? A remote-controlled toy car with a megaphone attached.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: When Ritsuka aggravates Larry over him being so upset by Renèe's death, she receives a strong punch to the jaw from the boxer. When Mimi finds Ritsuka afterwards, she states, despite the bruise, "with such beautiful lines that if she didn’t know better, Mimi might think Ritsuka resembled a woman."
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Is mistaken for a boy by pretty much everyone.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Chased barefoot across a stage littered by sharp pieces of glass before being impaled on multiple katanas that slide out from board in the floors and wall.
* DaddysGirl: Her father trained her in the samurai arts.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Despite her false conviction, she gives an inspiring speech to her classmates, saying she doesn't blame her classmates for getting it wrong. She's angry about being judged, but only in an impersonal sense, and not that it's her classmates doing it.
* HalfBreedDiscrimination: Ritsuka keeps her half-Korean heritage a secret not because she's ashamed of it, but because she worries about how others will react.
%%* HeirToTheDojo
* HumanPincushion: Her execution has her being filled with swords that pop out from the wall.
* LadyLooksLikeADude: In fact, there isn't a ''single character'' in the class that has realized that Ritsuka is a girl.
* OfficialCouple: With Mimi. She even gives Mimi a chaste kiss on the cheek, and after telling Mimi not to cry and that someone could be falling love with Mimi's smile, Ritsuka gives Mimi a kiss on the lips before being executed.
%%* PassionateSportsGirl
* {{Samurai}}: Her SHSL talent is that she’s this.
%%* SamusIsAGirl
* SiblingRivalry: Ritsuka feels overshadowed by her older siblings, resulting in her pushing harder for success.
%%* TomboyishPonytail
* TomboyishName: Ritsuka is an androgynous name in Japanese, as is her shortened name of Ritsu, only adding to the confusion surrounding her gender.
%%* UnsettlingGenderReveal: Does this to Mimi post-humously via her diary.

!!Ryosuke Shuuto
!!!Super High-School Level Sports Fan

Growing up watching his father love soccer, he eventually encouraged him to try out for a team. Though his dad wasn't very good at first, his son supported and encouraged him to keep trying, and he's become a world-famous player who credits Ryosuke's unwavering support for everything.

Survives to endgame.
----
%%* EagleEyeDetection: So he could always follow his father on the field.
%%* HeroicResolve: Not him, but his SHSL talent is to ''invoke'' this in others.
* HeroicBSOD: After Marian is executed, Ryosuke's usual enthusiasm is no where to be found. It even led to having his outfit changed to a rather simple black hoodie.
* NoIndoorVoice: A deliberate example; he trained his voice to be really loud so he could make himself heard over an entire stadium.
* OfficialCouple: With Marian, though he wonders what on earth he did to deserve her affections since he wasn't able to help her. When Marian is set to be executed, Ryosuke promises that if he ever gets out of this place and meets his father again, he'll tell his father that he met someone he cared about as much as his father cared about his mother.
* PrecisionFStrike: His reaction to Renée's death. Which was unusual, considering the fact that he wasn't one to swear ever at all.
* MissingMom: It seems that he has little, or no recollection of his mother ever having any thing to do with him.
* ThePowerOfTrust: His entire SHSL talent is to be able to motivate sports players to become superstars just by being their fan.
* SoMyKidsCanWatch: [[invoked]]His SHSL talent is to ''invoke'' this; his soccer star father performs his best on the field because he knows Ryosuke will be watching and cheering him on.

[[quoteright:184:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_msw50lxaou1qz4rgp_3819.png]]

Born into a life of organized crime, Shinya was a young prodigy within his family until an accident convinced him to quit and pursue a more respectable life style.

He's the chapter 2 murder victim; someone slices him and he dies from loss of blood. In a private conversation with Yukiko, Adeline reveals that ''she'' was the one who killed him.
----
%%* BigScrewedUpFamily
* ChildProdigy: Shinya proved to be one of the most promising in his field to show that, if he wanted to, he could become one of the best through determination and ruthlessness.
%%* TheClan
* {{Determinator}}: Never one to shy away from any confrontation or obstacle, Shinya faces them head-on regardless of his odds or the consequences that might follow. Not that it helps, since he's murdered in chapter 2.
* EagleEyeDetection: His eyes are honed to the point of identifying objects and individuals at great distances. One of his skills.
* FamilyHonor: His father and family in general take honor quite seriously. Shinya used to as well until a certain incident changed his mindset. He no longer thinks the occupation to be honorable and considers it to be nothing more than murder.
%%* HeterosexualLifePartners: Becomes this with Kyo during the chapter 2. Too bad Shinya dies that week.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: Enough of a heart to voluntarily quit his SHSL talent and try to pursue something more respectable.
* HitmanWithAHeart: As much as it could be possible, in the least. Shinya takes no satisfaction in the act of taking another's life. When he does, he makes sure to do so quickly and even prays for their better fortune in another life.
* IAmNotMyFather: His father being one of the most infamous and well-known hired guns in the yakuza, has been a role-model for Shinya for quite some time. Until a certain incident occurred which convinced Shinya to stray from his first intended path.
* ILikeThoseOdds: He has discovered a certain fetish where he loves to take chances. The greater the risk, the greater his satisfaction. There is no gamble that he would shy from, although if there is nothing to be gained there would be no purpose in it at all and he understands this.
* InnateNightVision: His eyes are incredible in that they can quickly adjust to dark environments to easily identify silhouettes. One of his skills.
* MythologyGag: His slit throat is unusually similar to the way Koemi was killed in the previous murder.
* OfficialCouple: With Kanon in the afterlife, though this wasn't revealed until Doubt Academy White was over and the "dead students blog" was opened to the public.
%%* RedStringOfFate
%%* SelfMadeMan
%%* ThereAreNoCoincidences
* ZeroApprovalGambit: Shinya attempts to pull one in chapter 1's trial: he feels the real murderer was justified in killing because they were afraid of what would happen if they didn't, so Shinya, believing himself more deserving to die due to his SHSL talent of being a Hitman, deliberately attempts to get himself executed in the murderer's place, since he feels that would still mean someone more deserving than he would get to live.

!!Takahiro 'Hiro' Hirano
!!!Super High-School Level Choreographer
[[quoteright:217:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_mspw6zgy2a1qz4rgp_307.png]]

Hiro has traveled all around Southeast Asia, perfecting different styles of dance. He deals primarily with idol and pop groups, and is best known for his hip-hop group [=BULL3T=], which gained popularity on the internet. He's easygoing and optimistic, as well as flirtatious and slightly narcissistic.

Physically assaults Monobear after his takeover and is killed as a result.
----
* DeathByIrony: His dance troupe's name is ''[=BULL3T=]'' and Monokuma kills him by riddling him with bullets.
* TheFellowshipHasEnded: Takahiro's group has apparently broken up, and if we can trust Monobear's word, [[ItsAllMyFault it was Takahiro's fault]].
* ItsAllMyFault: His reaction to ending up in the afterlife in the "dead students blog" that wasn't revealed to the public until Doubt Academy White was over. Takahiro feels that it was his own hot-headed nature that got him killed, which is fitting considering his mother once told him that his erratic behavior would be the death of him someday.
* MoreDakka: Monobear kills him by pumping him full of lead.
* NerdGlasses: Has on thick, black-framed glasses.
* {{Narcissist}}: Has layers of this underneath his laid-back and optimistic attitude. We never get to actually ''see'' him behave like a narcissist, however, because he pisses Monobear off before the mutual killing game even begins, and Monobear riddles him with bullets. In fact, while he's the very first person to die and thus the very first person to enter the afterlife, throughout the entire afterlife blog he seems to have dropped this trait entirely. He spends the entire dead students blog attempting to comfort the others and rally them around.
* OfficialCouple: Becomes this with Fumiko in the afterlife, although this wasn't revealed until Doubt Academy White was over and the "dead students blog" was opened to the public.
* SacrificialLion: He’s the first student to die, to show that Monobear isn’t screwing around.
* ShutUpHannibal: In the afterlife, Takahiro finally gets sick of Mimi's "prideful bullshit" and tells her off, reminding her that now that she's dead, she's just as unimportant in the grand scheme of things as everyone else.
* TheresNoKillLikeOverkill: He gets absolutely filled with bullets.

!!Tomiko Kawasaki
!!!Super High-School Level Voice Actress
[[quoteright:163:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/h2ex4ka_8561.png]]

Despite being born into a family of actors and actresses, Tomiko proved to be rather camera-shy, and so chose to pursue voice-acting instead, and has had a prolific career. Despite her calm demeanor, Tomiko has been quite sheltered for most of her life.

In chapter 8, she gets herself executed in Larry's place for reasons that are not revealed... in vain, because afterwards Monobear executes Larry anyway.
----
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: After Monomi tries breaking the news of Kazuya's murder to her in the worst possible way -- by showing her the picture from his Monobear file -- Tomiko tries dismissing it as a joke and tells her how she's figured out she's in love with Kazuya.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: In a shocking twist, Tomiko tries to get herself executed in Larry's place in chapter 8. Tomiko is executed by being placed in the "voice acting role" of a villain who deserves to die, and the robotic heroine of that show shoots her through the heart, killing her instantly.
* HeroicSacrifice: Attempts this at the end of Chapter 8's trial, to get executed in place of Larry. It doesn’t end up working.
* InnocentInaccurate: After chapter 6's trial, after Tomiko enters the elevator, she passes out and doesn't wake up until the next chapter's trial is already over, meaning she slept through most of chapter 7. When she wakes up, she asks Monomi if Monomi can please bring Kazuya to Tomiko, not being privy to the fact that Kazuya is one of chapter 7's two murder victims.
* LoveConfession: In chapter 7, as Tomiko is talking to Monomi upon waking up from having been passed out, Tomiko blushes and confesses that she loves Kazuya, so could Monomi bring Kazuya to Tomiko? Well no, because Kazuya had previously been murdered.
* ManOfAThousandVoices: Her SHSL talent is that she’s extremely talented with voice-acting.
* OnlySaneWoman: Shares this status with Naoto. Tomiko's remained calm throughout all the trials, and in the chapter 4 trial in particular she has expressed annoyance that her classmates keep getting into fights and arguments. She's one of the few classmates so far who has never been shown shouting, or with an unusually angry expression, or threatening another classmate, or some combination of the above.
* PhotographicMemory: Has one for scripts and dialogue.
* RegalRinglets: Her family is rather famous, and she has a side-ponytail that’s styled into this.
* SailorFuku: She's wearing a white and pink sailor fuku in her profile picture.
* SenselessSacrifice: In chapter 8, Tomiko attempts to sacrifice herself to be executed in Larry's place. But after Tomiko is executed, Monobear adds a cruel twist by doing a ''second'' execution, and executing Larry anyway.
* ShrinkingViolet: She belongs to a family of regular actors and actresses, but Tomiko herself is "camera shy" and thus chose to become a voice actress instead.
* SpoiledSweet: Described as "sheltered" with no idea how the world really works, but takes a genuine interest in others' day-to-day-lives as a result.
* TenderTears: While apologizing to Ritsuka in chapter 4, believing herself to be foolish, naive, and worthless for inadvertently having contributed to the innocent Ritsuka being voted as the culprit. Tears roll down her eyes as she claims that she is no better than the culprit, for having brushed Jaejin aside even though Jaejin was right about the culprit not being Ritsuka.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Has a reputation for having a calm, mature personality, but in reality is a very sheltered individual.

!!Tomoe Setzuko
!!!Super High-School Level Chemist

Tomoe started her career by improving her late father's formulas, but soon started forging her own paths and becoming famous in her own right. While her father's work in environmental science started her in the field, she chose the path of a chemist instead.

Responsible for murdering Hidehisa, and was correctly pinned as the culprit during the ninth trial.
----
* BirdsOfAFeather: She and Arisa, the other scientist, get along well.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Monobear uses a shrink ray to shrink her down small enough to fit in a glass beaker with a bit of sodium in it. Then he pours a small bit of water into the beaker, which falls onto the sodium and causes a chemical reaction that causes the sodium to ''explode'', taking the trapped Tomoe along with it.
* FollowInMyFootsteps: ''Started'' to follow in her father's footsteps of environmental science as she did an experiment to purify contaminated water, but ultimately chose to become a chemist instead since she got more interested in how substances interacted.
%%* HyperAwareness: Of her surroundings.
* LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine: Dressed in one, due to being a chemist.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Has red eyes, and ends up murdering Hidehisa.
* SympatheticMurderer: After being pinned as the culprit, Tomoe reveals that she had been afraid of dying ever since Renée's body was found and killed Hidehisa only because he attempted to murder her first, leaving her to strike out in self-defense. While she admits that she could have let him live, she contends that he could have tried to kill her again if left alone.
* ThrowItIn: [[invoked]]One of her skills, actually; if she can't find exactly what she needs, she's very good at improvising something else she can use that'll work.

!!Yukiko Asahara
!!!Super High-School Level Mangaka
[[quoteright:270:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_mtrkygtgju1s6l2fl_5889.png]]

Yukiko's manga career started after winning a contest in a popular magazine. Her family then reluctantly agreed to allow her to write manga, provided that she used an alias. Antisocial and stone-faced, Yukiko comes off much harsher than she actually is.

Following Jun's blinding/punishment, Yukiko cuts out one of her own eyes. She is responsible for murdering Renée but escaped execution after Ritsuka was voted for in her place. She later murders Kazuya Hirayama and is correctly pinned as the culprit during the seventh trial. Unfortunately, she was also falsely accused of being the Mastermind during the same trial, and their first vote was spent only to prove her innocence.
----
* AcquittedTooLate: Despite all the suspicion, she was not the Mastermind. In a brutal twist of {{Irony}}, the first Mastermind Vote proves her innocence shortly before her scheduled execution for murdering Kazuya.
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Has black hair and is rather stone-faced.
* AscendedFangirl: She became a SHSL Mangaka after first becoming a fan of Junji Ito's Uzumaki, and then winning a popular manga contest, which caused publishers to pick her up and her to become a successful mangaka.
* BerserkButton: Mimi punches hers with her SpeakIllOfTheDead moment and gets slapped for it.
* BunniesForCuteness: As her hair clip shows, she likes rabbits. She even thinks Monomi is cute. Following Chapter 3, she starts wearing a Monomi eyepatch, and claimed Kanon's stuffed rabbit.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Her execution involves a large Monobear dressed like the Queen chasing her into a rosebush maze with an axe, and then he makes Yukiko think she's lost him... only to reappear cornering Yukiko in a dead end, and finally cutting off Yukiko's head.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: In the afterlife, Yukiko's hair has changed from black to white, although this wasn't revealed until Doubt Academy White was over and the "dead students blog" was opened to the public.
* EyeScream: Self-inflicted. She scoops out an eye after Jun loses his.
%%* EyepatchOfPower: Eventually. Goes through several different versions: a medical patch, a frilly Monomi one, and a black one with a Monokuma slash.
%%* GoodScarsEvilScars: Her left eye socket is sewn shut after she removed her own eye.
* HiddenDepths: Part of the reason her mangaka abilities are SHSL is the fact that she's not just great at ''drawing'', she's great at ''writing'', too.
* HowDareYouDieOnMe: This is her reaction to discovering that chapter 3's murder victim is Kyo, since Kyo had earlier promised to teach Yukiko how to live for herself and find her own happiness.
* ImportantHaircut: During Chapter 5's Abnormal Days, she cuts her hair to about shoulder length as part of a makeover.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: By successfully convincing the others that Shinya killed himself, she inadvertently caused Jun's blinding.
* NotSoStoic: The mutual killing game has NOT [[TraumaCongaLine been kind to her]] and so her stoic nature has cracked quite a bit.
* OfficialCouple: Subverted with Kyo. Monobear makes an off-hand comment about how selfish it is of Yukiko to hide away her "passionate necking" with Kyo. What ''actually'' turns out to have happened is that Kyo kissed Yukiko after they bonded over similar backgrounds, but then Yukiko left in self-disgust to meditate on her feelings for Jun.
* OffWithHisHead: She's executed in an Alice in Wonderland parody with Monobear-as-the-Queen cutting her head off with an axe.
%%* ReclusiveArtist:[[invoked]] By the age of 13.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: {{Averted}} with her initial look, despite the black hair, red eyes and red sweater, it turns out she’s not the Mastermind. Interestingly, as of Chapter 5, Monokuma seems to be trying to invoke this by demanding she wear an eyepatch patterned after him.
* RedHerring: She's an excellent "Mastermind" candidate. She's emotionally unstable, she's rude to the others, and in chapter 4 Monobear even makes Yukiko wear red-and-white-and-black, the colors of a traditional Dangan Ronpa mastermind, complete with a friggin' ''Monobear eyepatch'' just to complete the "duality" look...nice try, because as Naoto found out the hard way when pushing for a vote, Yukiko is actually ''not'' the Mastermind.
* RedStringOfFate: During Chapter 4's Trial, she reveals the red string she started wearing around her neck is a reference to this, as a memorial to Shinya.
* SanitySlippage: Because cutting out your own eye and giving it to another person as a threat usually doesn't bode well for one's general mental state.
* TheStoic: She’s rather cold, most of the time.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Even her profile explains that she has a soft interior though being outwardly emotionless.
%%* TakeMeInstead: Her reaction when Monobear declares he'll cripple Jun.
* TragicKeepsake: Kanon's stuffed rabbit.
* UnlimitedWardrobe: Has several different distinct outfits.
* WhatDidIDoLastNight: Yukiko does not remember killing Renée at all, as a result of the brain damage she inflicted on herself when she took out her eye. She only realizes that she was indeed Renée's murderer after her own death.
* WhyCouldntYouBeDifferent: Downplayed example, but her parents were initially against her being a mangaka, but then relented as long as she promised to publish under an alias so as not to "dirty the family name".

!!The Mastermind
The traitor responsible for Monobear's DeadlyGame, aka Katsuya Matsushita. Member of the Doctrina Artifice, a group opposing The Collective -- the group responsible for sending them all to Bright Side in the first place.
----
* BigBadFriend: During a meeting, the Mastermind counters Monobear's concern about having 'hormonal relations' by claiming it just makes the others trust them more. This heavily implies they're very close to at least one of the others, or at least believe themselves to be.
* BigBrotherIsWatching: Planned to use this against The Collective, broadcasting the footage of what happened at Bright Side to the world to expose their corruption and cruelty.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Chased by a Mono-dog, ankle mauled and broken, then carried on a moving walkway towards a massive printing press, which crushes him.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: A very notable aversion: unlike the Masterminds in Doubt Academy 1 and Doubt Academy Black, the Doubt Academy White Mastermind does ''not'' pull this kind of costume switch. In fact he doesn't pull a costume switch at all; instead, he switches to Mastermind with his expression instead, his hair flying everywhere and making an "evil crazy face" with lots of sharp teeth and a manic grin.
* TheRevolutionWillNotBeCivilized: Doctrina Artifice is fighting against The Collective by setting up the mutual killing game among a bunch of The Collective's human guinea pigs.
* VillainousBreakdown: Flips out after learning Monobear/the Doctrina Artifice is going to execute him.
* WalkingSpoiler: Revealing their identity spoils ''White''’s plot.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: In his eyes, the mutual killing game was necessary to help showcase the depths to which The Collective would sink.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Monobear, working as part of the Doctrina Artifice, is perfectly willing to execute him as further example of The Collective's evil. Katsuya was not aware of this, thinking he'd be allowed to return home.
