!! Sonic
->Voiced by: Creator/JaleelWhite (English, Speaking), Creator/SamuelVincent (English, Singing)
[[quoteright:212:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sonic_181.png]]

The protagonist and oldest of the royal triplets, Sonic was raised in a middle-class home. He is a super-fast hedgehog capable of exceeding the speed of sound. Sonic has a laid-back, wisecracking personality but a strong sense of justice.
----
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He's the least focused and (usually) the least serious of the three, but also the one who wreaks the most havoc with Robotnik's plans.
* BigEater: As with most western adaptations, he is usually seen scarfing down on many chili dogs.
%%* TheCynic: Sometimes.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Similar to his [[Characters/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM SatAM couterpart]] (yet contrary to both his [[Characters/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog AoStH]] and [[Characters/SonicTheHedgehogSonictheHedgehog main series]] counterparts), Sonic is a slightly caustic DeadpanSnarker, and can sometimes be arrogant and butt heads with Sonia. However, he seriously cares about Mobius and his siblings, and is determined to see Robotnik fall.
* TheLeader: Of Sonic Underground. He's also the first born of the triplets.
* LeadSingerPlaysLeadGuitar: He plays a blue double necked guitar and usually sings the lead in musical numbers. Said guitar is also featured in the show’s logo.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: The Blue Boy to Sonia's Pink Girl.
* SuperDrowningSkills: Like his game counterpart, he can't swim at all. In "The Deepest Fear", he tries to get over his fear of water, but in later episodes still has it.

!! Sonia
->Voiced by: Jaleel White (Speaking), Creator/StevieVallance (Singing)
[[quoteright:175:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/susonia.png]]

The middle child of the triplets, Sonia was raised by the aristocracy and can be self-centered at times. She rides a motorcycle and has a crush on Knuckles.
----
* AcePilot: She proves to have amazing pilot skills in episode 15.
* BadassBiker: Rides a pink-and-purple motorbike, and is quite skilled at driving it. It gets destroyed in one episode after crashing into a wall.
* BoundAndGagged: In "Dunes Day", after discovering that [[spoiler:Ifyoucan was roboticized]].
* DeadpanSnarker: Just like her siblings.
* DependingOnTheWriter: In episodes written by Ben Hurst and Pat Allee, she becomes somewhat of a [[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM Sally]] {{Expy}}, with her flaws getting downplayed in favor of her acting more like an [[StandardizedLeader uptight leader figure]] and having a perchance to scold Sonic (the actual leader) for his recklessness. Usually, Sonic is the sharp, levelheaded member of the trio who comes up with the plans.
* DudeMagnet: Sonia has had a lot of admirers over the course of the series: Dingo, Knuckles, Stripes, and Bartleby.
* EightiesHair: She basically has a pink mohawk.
* {{Expy}}: She resembles Amy Rose from VideoGame/SonicCD, being a pink hedgehog who closely resembles Sonic.
* FallenPrincess: Represents the upper-class part of the trio.
* FurryFemaleMane: She has pink hair. It's not stylized quills like Amy's.
* HumanoidFemaleAnimal: Like [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure2 Rouge the Bat]] after her, Sonia lacks the RubberHoseLimbs of Sonic, Manic, or Knuckles but instead has a more humanoid figure.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Knuckles (an echidna), Cyrus (a lion) and also Bartleby (a mink).
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Sonia can be spoiled and self-centered at times, and (being an occasional [[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM Sally]] {{Expy}} [[DependingOnTheWriter in Ben Hurst and Pat Allee written episodes]]) occasionally butt heads with Sonic regarding his recklessness. However, in addition to still caring about both her siblings and Mobuis as well as her determination in seeing Robotnik fall, [[CharacterDevelopment character development]] has also allowed her to become the most easily focused of the three siblings, and she's only looking out for Sonic just to try and get him to maintain his cockiness before it gets him into trouble.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Among Knuckles and her brothers. While Sonic, Manic, and Knuckles have round torsos and RubberHoseLimbs, Sonia has a more realistic design, with a slim, curvy body and muscle tone on her arms and legs.
* PhotographicMemory: Brags of having this in one episode. Cue Sonic and Manic posing for a photo. Ironically, she suffers LaserGuidedAmnesia in one episode.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: The Pink Girl to Sonic's Blue Boy.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Slightly shorter than her siblings but has SuperStrength, able to lift and throw Dingo, who is at least ten times her size.
* ThePianoPlayer: She plays the keyboard in the band.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: She is the only female member of her sibling's team.
* SpectacularSpinning: Can spin rapidly in a tornado-like attack.
* SpoiledBrat: Due to being raised in the aristocracy, it took a while to get used to being a homeless fugitive.
* SpoiledSweet: Despite her spoiled upbringing as an aristocrat, she is still a kind and brave person.
* SuperStrength: In one episode, she's able to pick up and throw ''Dingo''.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Was raised as a prim and proper lady, but was also pretty sporty even before her foster mother's capture.
* VocalDissonance: She has a squawkier voice than one would expect from someone of an aristocratic background.
* WomenAreWiser: She usually tries to keep a level head but can find her brothers' antics rather trying.

!! Manic
->Voiced by: Jaleel White (Speaking), Tyley Ross (Singing)
[[quoteright:220:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Manic_2_9516.png]]

Manic is the youngest of the triplets, and was raised as a thief. He is a punk rocker and a talented drummer. He will always risk his life to save Sonic before himself.
----
* AnimeHair: Arguably the most wild of any ''Sonic'' character: it's green and sticks up all over the place at odd angles.
* TheArtfulDodger: Was raised by thieves (who stole him from a doorstop, no less), and has trouble packing the habit in after reuniting with his siblings.
* BadassAdorable: Wears his heart on his sleeve a lot more than Sonic, and almost as much as Sonia.
* BadassNormal: While Sonic has his SuperSpeed, and Sonia has her SuperStrength, Manic only has his lock-picking ability and his HoverBoard to get him by.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's a fun-loving, humble person, but doesn't hesitate to fight against villains.
* DeadpanSnarker: To a lesser extent than his brother, but still there.
* DespairEventHorizon: Teeters on it on a couple of occasions, most notably in "The Art of Destruction", when he notes that their actions aren't having any lasting effect on Robotnik's empire and starts to wonder why they're even trying.
* DishingOutDirt: His drumkit can cause earthquakes.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Downplayed, but in one episode, his siblings complain that he seems to be hitting every pothole on the road.
* DudeInDistress: Is often the most captured or in danger of the trio.
* DumbAndDrummer: Subverted. He’s the drummer of the band, but he has street smarts his siblings lack and a plethora of useful skills.
* HoverBoard: Has a red-and-yellow one that appears to be able to fly indefinitely with no need for fuel.
* LovableRogue: He's a thief, but otherwise a good guy.
* MrViceGuy: He just can't stop stealing things.
* NonindicativeName: Generally the most laid-back of the trio.
* StickyFingers: A trained and skillful pickpocket.
* SurferDude: HoverBoard? Check. Messy hair and earrings? Check. TotallyRadical lingo? Crashin', dude.
* ToughSpikesAndStuds: Manic is a punk rocker and has a harder upbringing compared to his siblings, being raised as a thief and feeling like he never had a real home. While he lacks Sonic's speed and Sonia's strength, he is still a capable fighter in his own right. He wears spiked bracelets.

!! Queen Aleena
->Voiced by Gail Webster
[[quoteright:283:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sualeena.png]]

The mother of the royal triplets. Aleena was usurped from her throne and lives in hiding until the prophesied moment, occasionally helping her children from afar.
----
* ActionMom: Occasionally, most prominently in "Sonia's Choice" where [[spoiler:she flies in piloting a ''freaking gunship'', destroys several SWAT-bots, and rescues Manic]].
* BadassBoast: Gives a really rousing one to Robotnik in ''Wedding Bell Blues,''
-->'''Queen Aleena:''' "You are a blight upon our land, Robotnik! I, Queen Aleena, shall ''never'' abandon Mobius or her children as long as I may live!"
* BigGood: Although not able to aide her children directly, Aleena does her best to guide her children and give them help in their times of need.
* TheChessmaster: She always seems to be pulling strings in the background to get the hedgehogs to the right place at the right time.
* CoolCrown: It even has a special jewel that can track her if separated from her.
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: Aleena is reputedly a fair and gracious monarch and is purple in color.
* TheHighQueen: Or at least, she was before Robotnik deposed her.
* InTheHood: Wears a cloak most of the time.
* LongHairIsFeminine: Her hair is so long that it reaches her ankles.
* MamaBear: Though the prophecy forbids her from reuniting with her children until the right moment, she does show up to save them more than once.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Main Antagonists]]
!! Dr. Robotnik
->Voiced by: Creator/GarryChalk
[[quoteright:285:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/robotnik_underground.jpg]]

Dr. Robotnik is the evil dictator of Mobius, and the boss of Sleet and Dingo. Having already conquered the whole planet with his technology and intelligence, he seeks to remove Queen Aleena and the Hedgehogs from the picture to end any opposition to his rule.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: Despite the occasional moments where things go badly wrong for him or jokes are made at his expense, this is still one of Robotnik's most competent and sinister portrayals. He rules the entire planet Mobius with an iron fist and is an ever-present threat to the hedgehogs, to the point that in "The Art of Destruction", Manic starts to despair; contemplating if there's any point in trying to fight him.
* AdaptationalDyeJob: His design is very similar to his ''[=SatAM=]'' self, but with the addition of a long gray sleeve on his right arm to match his roboticized left one, and a long red cape instead of a short yellow one.
* AdaptationalVillainy: He might have the occasional funny moment or two, sure, but this version of the egg-shaped scientist is just as pure evil as his ''[[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatam SatAM]]'' counterpart and is completely devoid of the sympathetic, redeemable, or likable traits that his game counterpart has.
* AristocratsAreEvil: Robotnik gained the footing for his takeover by appealing to the upper-crust of Mobius and reassuring them that they would be able to keep their cushy lifestyles if they allow him to rule.
* BigBad: As usual in the ''Sonic'' franchise. Like in ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAm'' before it, he forcibly usurped the throne of Mobius; putting a bounty on Queen Aleena and her children, and ruling with an iron fist.
* BlackEyesOfCrazy: Has black sclera with [[RedEyesTakeWarning glowing red pupils]].
* CardCarryingVillain: And how! He gets the odd moment of humor in, but Robotnik is absolutely loathesome, and he's very, very aware of it; to the point where he gleefully goes out of his way to make things like music, books, arts, dance (and all things fun and creative in general) illegal.
-->'''Robotnik:''' Is everyone having a real good time? (''complete dead silence from the crowd'') Good, because ''that'' would be against the law! (...) Welcome, Argus-Bot. Your orders are; stamp out freedom, squash fun... and arrest enemies of state!
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: As shown with victims like Bartleby and his lower-class informers, Robotnik has a habit of betraying his own allies the ''second'' they stop being useful to him.
* {{Cyborg}}: His left arm is robotic after it got roboticized, and he wears a gray sleeve on his uniform to match it.
* DeadpanSnarker: Although not to Sleet's extent, Robotnik certainly has his moments of sarcasm:
-->'''Robot:''' Sensors indicate that the subject is... blue, sir.
-->'''Robotnik:''' ''Blue?'' Is that all?!
* TheDreaded: Robotnik's the widely-feared dictator of the whole planet Mobius, and even his own henchmen are quite rightly terrified of him.
* EmperorScientist: Like his ''[[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM SatAM]]'' counterpart, Robotnik personally designed and built most of the robots and other machines -- most notably the Roboticizer and [=SWATbots=] -- seen in the series, and he rules over Mobius with an (in one case, ''[[{{Cyborg}} actual]]'') iron fist.
* EvilGenius: Besides being a truly incredible roboticist and planet-spanning dictator, Dr. Robotnik is extremely clever in other fields as well, such as in chemistry (with his "Sonic Tonic", which he developed with extracts from a rare plant), strategy and military command.
* EvilIsPetty: He was fully prepared to let a mindless, Chaos Emerald-corrupted Dingo (and the resulting storm) destroy all of Mobius, just so that the hedgehogs would die with it.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Robotnik often puts on a charming façade around both ally and enemy alike, but it's clear he doesn't mean a word of it. He especially loves doing so to rub it in when he's got (or at least, ''thinks'' he's got) the upper hand, such as in "Wedding Bell Blues" when he's about to marry Aleena:
-->'''Sonia:''' My mother's absence is because of '''his''' presence!
-->'''Robotnik:''' (''in a mocking, faux-fatherly tone'') If it's my fault you're missing a mother, I will remedy that lack by adopting you, our new crown princess, as our daughter. In fact... you may call me "Dad"!
* IControlMyMinionsThrough: Fear and Material Benefits. Robotnik is an absolutely cruel sociopath who thinks nothing of forcibly disposing of those who defy him (this being the main reason Sleet and Dingo continue to work for him), but he also makes sure to [[AristocratsAreEvil appeal to the upper crust of Mobian society]] by letting them [[BreadAndCircuses keep their wealth and lifestyles if they in turn let]] ''[[BreadAndCircuses him]]'' [[BreadAndCircuses rule]].
* ManipulativeBastard: Not afraid to even use those who are loyal to him as traps to capture Sonic and his friends, as Bartleby learns in his show trial. At a few points, he's also shown torturing and roboticizing informants after he has gotten what he wants out of them.
* PragmaticVillainy: Although very similar to his ''[=SatAM=]'' self, Robotnik here is a bit more shrewd compared to his counterpart there. He still has an end goal of [[TakeOverTheWorld total planetary domination]], but he's more willing to use different means to do so -- including appealing to the aristocracy and shaking them down for resources, and the use of unroboticized help and informants -- beyond his technology, and tries to keep up his image among his wealthy supporters by not going out of his way to pollute the environment (unless it ties into his goals) and mostly reserving roboticization as a punishment for crimes committed against his rule.
* SilenceYouFool: He's very, ''very'' fond of saying this -- to the point that it can be considered his CharacterCatchphrase -- and most often uses it against Sleet and Dingo whenever they have to explain their latest setback and/or failure to him.
* SurroundedByIdiots: He frequently takes his anger out on his incompetent bounty hunter henchmen, Sleet and Dingo, in a number of ways; from verbally berating them and threatening them with roboticization to outright imprisoning and beating them up.
* TokenHuman: As Mobius in this series is filled with anthropomorphic animals -- and the odd non-speaking human who seldom appears in the background -- Robotnik is the only main character to be human.
* TheUsurper: He was able to take the throne from Queen Aleena, and has ruled Mobius since.
* WouldHurtAChild: Though he is depicted as a bumbling villain, one of his goals is to find Sanctuary -- a place of refuge where Freedom Fighters hide their children and infants -- so he can destroy it and turn all of its inhabitants into robot slaves, and sadistically relishes the opportunity to do so.
-->'''Robotnik:''' When we find it, Sanctuary will become... ''Cemetery!''

!! Sleet
->Voiced by: Creator/MauriceLaMarche
[[quoteright:285:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/susleet.png]]

The intelligent wolf minion of Dr. Robotnik and partner in crime of Dingo.
----
* AnimeHair: Blue and spiky.
* DeadpanSnarker: His remarks tend to go over Dingo's head.
* EvilGenius: Sleet generally makes plans that, at least on paper, are sound. It's usually Dingo's incompetence or Sonic's meddling that causes these plans to go off the rails. At the very least, Sleet is able to keep convincing Robotnik that he shouldn't roboticize them, in spite of their constant failures.
* {{Expy}}: Part of a pair of villainous lackeys much in the proud tradition of Scratch and Grounder. Specifically, Sleet is thin and ostensibly the smart one, like Scratch.
* FangsAreEvil: Like Dingo, he has a pair that are very noticeable when he's grinning.
* FatAndSkinny: With Dingo. Sleet is straight-up skinny.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Despite being the butt of occasional jokes, Sleet can be a ''very'' sinister and effective villain when he tries. On one occasion, he obtains information from a tipster, who he then [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness immediately has roboticized]].
* LaughablyEvil: Prone to being a ButtMonkey.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: His voice is Creator/MauriceLaMarche doing an imitation of Creator/PeterLorre.
* PetTheDog: Despite how terribly Sleet usually treats his own partner, in "The Pendant", Dingo asks Sleet for a break, and Sleet agrees.
* TheStarscream: Attempted in the "Chaos Emerald Chaos" three-parter, together with Dingo: they steal the Chaos Emerald from the Flying Fortress, intending to use it to overthrow Robotnik and rule Mobius. Dingo then steals it from Sleet... and promptly drops it.

!! Dingo
->Voiced by: Peter Wilds
[[quoteright:278:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sudingo.png]]

The dim-witted minion of Dr. Robotnik and partner in crime of Sleet. He can shapeshift using a remote.
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: Dingo has a big crush on Sonia, who doesn't feel the same way and in fact, hates him.
* AffablyEvil: Dingo seems largely unaware of what is going on most of the time and just seems to be along for the ride.
* AlmightyIdiot: At one point Dingo absorbs a Chaos Emerald and mutates into a enormous blob monster that threatens to destroy the planet.
* AnimeHair: It's very spiky.
* AwesomeAussie: Dingo has a prominent [[LandDownUnder Australian accent]], and has a muscular physique and rugged outfit to match.
* TheBrute: In contrast to Sleet's EvilGenius.
* ButtMonkey: Constantly falls over something and is usually beaten around for the laughs.
* DeadlyDingos: He is a dingo, and one of the bad guys.
* ADogNamedDog: A dingo that is named Dingo.
* DumbMuscle: Strong enough to break through walls, and dumb enough to do so after mistaking a sarcastic remark for a genuine order. According to Sleet, he can't even drink a glass of water without using both hands.
-->'''Dingo:''' Yeah... but I don't spill as much as I used to.
* {{Expy}}: Part of a pair of villainous lackeys, in the proud tradition of Scratch and Grounder. Specifically, Dingo is dumber and squat, but can do a wide variety of things thanks to his ability to transform, somewhat like Grounder.
* FangsAreEvil: Has a pair that are most noticeable when he's grinning.
* FatAndSkinny: Dingo isn't fat, just very muscular, but he and Sleet still fit this trope.
* ForcedTransformation: Dingo tends to be at least a little bit surprised when Sleet forces him to transform using the remote control. He's especially annoyed when he's forced to transform into a boat.
* HopelessSuitor: He is one towards Sonia.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Dingo cannot even follow directions to go through a door properly. Most of the duo's failures are because Dingo [[NiceJobFixingItVillain screws up]], [[AttentionDeficitOohShiny gets distracted]], or [[ButtMonkey simply has bad luck]]. For example, Dingo very nearly gets away with Angel Island's Chaos Emerald, [[EpicFail only to trip, fall, and send it tumbling away]]. Sleet is very eager to call him an [[WesternAnimation/TheRenAndStimpyShow "EEDiot"]] for his fumbles.
* LaughablyEvil: Due to being a clumsy moron.
* MeaningfulName: A dingo is a vicious species of canine that lives in Australia. Dingo is a vicious canine with an Australian accent.
* TheStarscream: Attempted in the "Flying Fortress" three-parter: after he and Sleet steal the Chaos Emerald from the Flying Fortress, Dingo steals it from Sleet, intending to rule Mobius himself. He then drops the Chaos Emerald and breaks it.
* TopHeavyGuy: His upper half is three or four times as wide as his lower half.
* VillainousCrush: As stated above, Dingo has a crush on Sonia, which she occasionally uses to her advantage.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Most of the time, he goes without a shirt.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Supporting Characters]]

!!Bartleby [=MontClair=]
An aristocratic mink and Sonia's ex-fiancé. Bartleby is very haughty and is often cowed into paying Robotnik tribute, but helps the hedgehogs on occasion.

----
* ButtMonkey: He’s often the victim of slapstick comedy.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: He refuses to join a side in the conflict between Robotnik and the resistance, mostly doing whatever is best for him at the moment.
* UpperClassTwit: He’s a wealthy aristocrat and contributes almost nothing to society.

!!Cyrus
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f2360d763bf2803645f68e040cb52f45.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Cyrus the Lion]]
A lion who was blackmailed into working for Robotnik, Cyrus joined the Resistance after his father, Lionel, was roboticized. Cyrus has an on-and-off relationship with Sonia, and is adept at gadgetry and inventing.

!! Knuckles
->Voiced by: Creator/BrianDrummond
[[quoteright:222:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/knuckles_58.png]]

Knuckles is the guardian of one of the Chaos Emeralds, and lives on the Floating Island. He is a loner who is destined to his duty but is well-mannered and believes in the good of people.
----
* AdvertisedExtra: Although he only appeared in four episodes of the series[[note]] "Friend or Foe", "Flying Fortress", "No Hedgehog is an Island", and "New Echidna in Town"[[/note]], a good chunk of the series' merchandise was centered around him. He had a puzzle and plush from Denny's, and he was one of the characters featured on the sticker sheet.
* AloofAlly: Prefers to work by himself, and in "Chaos Emerald Chaos" the triplets have to sing one of their trademark Aesop-y songs before he's willing to work with them.
* BigDamnHeroes. He saved Sonic, Manic & Sonia on his own from Dr. Robotnik and his robots, and set them free.
* DreadlockWarrior: As always.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Sonia (a hedgehog).
* ItsAllMyFault: This is his reaction after Dr. Robotnik successfully tricks him and steals his Chaos Emerald.
* HeelFaceTurn: After his first encounter, having realized that the triplets aren't the real threat.
* HotBlooded: After Sleet and Dingo convince him that the triplets are out to steal his Chaos Emerald, he pursues them relentlessly and aggressively.
* MarriedToTheJob: While he doesn't seem to be the LastOfHisKind as in other media, he's still duty-bound to guard the Chaos Emerald on Floating Island. In "Chaos Emerald Chaos" it takes a lot of persuading for him to leave the island despite the danger posed by the broken Chaos Emerald.
* RedIsHeroic: His dreadlocks are red and he's a big hero.
* SuperStrength: As always.
* TeamPet: In his first appearance he had a pet dinosaur named Chomps.
* UndyingLoyalty: To his job as guardian of the Chaos Emerald, and later, to the triplets and their cause.

!! The Oracle of Delphius
An aardvark mage, the Oracle mentors the triplets, though not always in a straightforward manner. He learned of the ancient prophecy and warned both Aleena and Robotnik about it, setting the events of the series in motion.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: He's green with spots of darker green.
* CartoonCreature: He's supposed to be an aardvark, but the exaggerated flexibility of his snout makes it a little hard to identify.
* TricksterMentor: He almost never gives a straight answer, and many of his challenges have hidden meanings or solutions.

!!Trevor
A mouse and member of the Resistance. Trevor is not good at fighting, but is an AcePilot and is good at fixing mechanical equipment.

!! Athair
Knuckles' grandfather, who originated from the Archie comics. He gives the young echidna advice on occasion.

!!Mindy [=LaTour=]
An aristocractic fox and old friend of Sonia's, she is unwittingly involved in one of Robotnik's schemes when her father helps distribute watches that watch people.
* DefectorFromDecadence: She and her father join the Resistance once Robotnik's plot is discovered, leaving behind their lavish lifestyle.
