[[folder:Renako Amaori]]
!!Renako Amaori
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/AyakaOhashi (PV)

The protagonist of the series. She is a former hikikomori who is desperate to make the most out of her high school years. She is gloomy and negative, but tries her best to appear bright and sociable in front of others.
----
* CharacterCatchphrase: "There is no way!". Also counts as a TitleDrop.
* ChickMagnet: For someone who supposedly doesn't belong with the popular crowd, she certainly managed to gain the affections of many girls during the story.
* CovertPervert: After the events of Volume 1, Renako starts noticing how often her mind goes into R-rated territory when her friends say something ambiguous, and is very concerned about it.
* DiggingYourselfDeeper: When Mai has a minor freak out after hearing Renako was sharing a room with Ajisai at the inn, Renako tries to calm her down by saying there is nothing lewd about two girls sleeping together, bringing up the time she did it with Satsuki as evidence. Except neither Mai not Ajisai had heard this before, so the number of girls wanting to interrogate Renako rose to two.
* DisappointingOlderSibling: Seen as this by her younger sister, for being a hikikomori during her middle school years and (seemingly) two-timing Mai and Satsuki.
* FriendlessBackground: Thanks to an incident in middle school where she gave the other girls the impression that she didn't want to hang out with them, leading to her being excluded of the group.
* GamerChick: She loves video-games, to the point of nicknaming her console. It's somewhat of a tragic example, as she spent so much time playing games because she lacked friends.
* HerOwnWorstEnemy: Renako is always doubting herself and worrying she may do something to piss off those around her, and it takes a lot of effort from the rest of the cast to convince her othewise. It gets to the point that the drama surrounding the LoveTriangle in Volume 4 [[spoiler:is driven entirely by Renako's self-loathing, as Mai and Ajisai are perfectly friendly and civil with each other and both told Renako they are fine waiting for her answer. She still spends half the book worrying she is about to lose her relationship with both girls because she can't imagine a scenario where her lover doesn't grow disillusioned with her.]]
* IJustWantToBeLoved: At her core, she is extremely lonely girl who wants to feel like she is loved without having to worry about stepping on a landmine and losing all her friends. She is never in peace with herself unless given a strong reason to believe her friends are not one mistake away from leaving her.
* OhCrap: Renako has an extended one when she realizes Satsuki plans to get revenge on Mai through her.
* SelectiveObliviousness: Renako has been hanging out with the most admired girls in school long enough that most students also consider her to be part of the popular crowd and are repeatedly seen commenting on how cute she is. Yet, she refuses to consider herself one of them and is always worried that she looks out of place among her friends, as she is too self-depreciative to think of herself as beloved or popular.
* TenderTears: The manga adaptation is fond of drawing Renako in a chibified style and with teary eyes when she gets nervous or afraid.
* TransparentCloset: Renako may kiss and get kissed by girls, make passionate speeches about how much she admires her friends, and even share a bath with a significant amount of body contact with more than one girl, but you will never get her to admit out loud she is into girls. She tries to rationalize her attraction to Mai as a case of IfItsYouItsOkay, as Mai is known to [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer make everyone fall for her no matter the gender]], but even with this context, it's clear nobody is fooled but Renako herself.

[[folder:Mai Oduka]]
!!Mai Oduka
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/AzusaTadokoro (PV)

A world-famous model and daughter of a fashion designer, Mai is extravagantly wealthy, beautiful, and is considered the school's Madonna. She falls in love with Renako and makes a bet with her to make her accept dating, kickstarting the plot.
----
* TheAce: She is filthy rich, a popular model, has an athletic body figure, gets top grades at school, and usually masters most things she sets on mastering in short time. Other characters repeatedly lampshade (and complain about) how she is pretty much the perfect woman.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: To Satsuki, always getting better grades even though Satsuki has been trying to beat her for years. [[spoiler:Satsuki finally gets her victory at the end of Volume 2.]]
* BreakTheHaughty: [[spoiler:Turns out the entire plot of the series, from the climax of Volume 1 to Volume 4, was this for, although she hides it well. Between her failing to get Renako to become her girlfriend, losing a match to Satsuki, and seeing both Satsuki and Ajisai seemingly making more progress with Renako than herself, Mai slowly lost her confidence that she would always win, at one point being reduced to crying over a broken heart when alone with her best friend like any other teenage girl. She only gets better when Renako announces that she wants to go out with both her and Ajisai.]]
* ButNotTooBi: She claims at one point that she doesn't care about the gender of her future partner, implying she identifies as bi or pansexual. However, she is quick to follow this statement with an explanation about how she is [[SingleTargetSexuality Renako-sexual]] now, so you won't be seeing her showing any interest in boys. In fact, the closest she ever gets to showing interest in a person that isn't Renako is when she entertains the idea that she might have fallen in love with Ajisai under different circunstances in Volume 4.
* ChildhoodFriends: Mai and Satsuki first met during fifth grade. Despite Satsuki's apparent enmity towards Mai, that they stuck around each other for so long has ensured Satsuki would join the small list of people Mai considers to be special.
* {{Chuunibyou}}: Right in the first chapter, during the talk on the tree, Renako remarks that Mai talks like she has a bad case of chuunibyou, being overly dramatic and romantic.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She gets jealous easily when Renako hangs out with other girls. To the point where she rushes to go back to her even when she is currently in a ''different country''.
* CovertPervert: At first glance she is always prim and proper, but when Renako asks her to write down what she would like to do with her if they were lovers, she finds herself with a long list of R-rated activities.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: She is loved by everyone, regardless of age or gender. The climax of Volume 1 shows that her pretenders can form a huge, mixed-gender crowd that nearly fills the entire lobby of a hotel.
* Fiction500: Being impossibly rich is part of the package for being the most desirable girl in the city. At one point Renako tells Mai she doesn't have to rent out the InUniverse version of Disneyland just for the two of them, and Mai doesn't deny she could do that.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: She doesnt' fully realize how much Satsuki is bothered by always losing to her. This reaches its zenith when she bluntly tells Satsuki that she thinks the latter hasn't changed since they were children. As Renako had already discovered, Satsuki has been trying to better herself for years to finally defeat Mai, and this comment sounds like a denial of all her hard work.
* ItsAllAboutMe: While a PlayedForLaughs example, the fact is that she is extremely arrogant. She is fully aware of her own status as TheAce and uses it as an argument at every opportunity, to the point where she claims it's sunny the day she goes on a date with Renako because she wants it to be. There is also her idea of courtship.
--> '''Renako''': "Where did you get the idea that I like you?"
--> '''Mai''': "Are you implying that there is a person that doesn’t like me?"
* LonelyAtTheTop: There are plenty of people that admire and flat-out worship Mai, but she is aware that's very different from having a friend or a lover. This loneness makes her deeply treasure Satsuki and Ajisai for being her friends as equals and leads to her falling in love and confessing to Renako merely one day after a heart-to-heart talk with her.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:Sha has a very negative reaction after she nearly assaults Renako in a moment where she allows her lust to take over. She even expresses a desire to be sexually assaulted herself so she could share Renako's pain. Renako has to snap her out of it.]]
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: From the moment she falls in love with Renako, Mai develops an habit of getting really close and personal whenever they are talking.
* NotSoAboveItAll: The usually confident and seductive Mai becomes a lot quieter when visiting Renako's room for the first time. The second time, she admits she was nervous. She later gets entranced into silence by the sight of Renako's panties, to the disbelief of the other girl.
* PeerlessLoveInterest: A big part of the reason Renako initially refuted Mai is that she has trouble understanding why the most famous and desired girl in school would want her for a girlfriend. Her inner monologues across Volume 1 show that she feels a lot of pressure when she is seen together with Mai. Her status as this is part of the reason she is LonelyAtTheTop, and why she wants Renako to be her lover so badly.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Renako-sexual. Once Mai falls in love with someone, it has to be that person. She doesn't care how many admirers she has, Renako is the only one who touched her heart, and the only one who can be her lover.
* StepfordSmiler: [[spoiler:The climax of Volume 4 reveals that she has been making an effort to look cheerful as always when in front of Renako and Ajisai, even though she became very insecure about herself and afraid Renako won't return her feelings.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Satsuki Koto]]
!!Satsuko Koto

The blunt and serious one of the group. While she is a long-time friend of Mai, she also has a goal to make her taste defeat. Despite hanging out with Renako together with their mutual friends, she doesn't appear to like her very much.
----
* AwesomeByAnalysis: She figured out that Renako was only pretending to be extroverted simply by paying attention to her body language.
* BrutalHonesty: Satsuki always gives her blunt opinion when talking with Renako, which usually results in insults.
* ChildhoodFriends: You will be hard-pressed to get Satsuki to admit the "friends" part, but anyone who knows her history with Mai quickly notices she is the closest friend Mai ever had.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Her dark hair, cold disposition, and occasional evil smirks cause her to be compared to a villain or a fairy tale witch, the same way Mai is compared to a queen and Ajisai is called an angel by Renako. Nonetheless, she can be quite compassionate and helpful towards her friends.
* DefrostingIceQueen: At the beginning, she is cold and dismissive towards Renako. Through the events of Volume 2, however, she begins opening up to her, ultimately admitting they are friends.
* {{Determinator}}: She has spent years trying to defeat Mai without ever giving up.
* EvilLaugh: Let's out a stereotypical one after seeing [[spoiler:Mai falling down to her knees after being told about Satsuki kissing Renako.]]
* NotSoAboveItAll: Despite being a self-aware IceQueen, she gets very flustered when she and Renako accidentally kiss, and it doesn't get better when the possibility of her entering a real romantic relationship appears.
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards Mai and Renako, whom she treats with cold indifference despite being close friends. The latter even notices how Satsuki's childish insistence that she doesn't like Mai in the slightest only makes it look like she likes her a lot.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ajisai Sena]]
!!Ajisai Sena
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/ManakaIwami (PV)

The kindest girl of the group. She is friendly to everyone and her sweet personality has made her the target of Renako's admiration.
----
* ButtMonkey: In Volume 2 only. A RunningGag through this volume is Ajisai trying to get closer to Renako and not only failing, but reacting with lots of distress when she notices Satsuki seemingly becoming very close to Renako in short time.
* CannotSpitItOut: She develops feelings for Renako at the climax of Volume 1, but never musters to courage to admit it, let alone confess. [[spoiler:Until the ending of Volume 3.]]
* CoolBigSis: Despite her token complaints, it's clear that her younger brothers like her a lot and she takes care of them well.
* GamerChick: Not to the same extent as Renako, but she plays video-games with her younger brothers a lot. It becomes the initial reason for them to visit each other's houses.
* TheHeart: It's even pointed out by Satsuki. Ajisai's apparently infinite goodwill and kindness made her reach out to all the other girls and paved the way for the quintet to become close friends. She is the only member of the group to always be in good terms with all the other four, regardless of all issues the quintet has to tackle through the series.
* HypocriticalHumor: At one point in Volume 3 she meekly complains that Renako is nice to everyone (and thus, not just to her). Renako is shocked that THE NiceGirl dared to say this about someone else.
* NiceGirl: Ajisai is so kind and polite, she borders on being a parody of this trope. Renako is convinced she can't be a mere human being.
* PokeThePoodle: After her brothers get in the way of her home date with Renako, she decides to rebel against her own image of a NiceGirl by... running away from home for a couple of days. During which she stays in an inn in a town her family knows and gets to sightsee. After leaving a note explaining where she is. In the middle of summer break when doing so brings no trouble to her life. And when Renako joins her she insists on paying for everything. The girl is just too naturally kind to ever do something seriously bad.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kaho Koyanagi]]
!! Kaho Koyanagi

A very energetic girl, she is the mood maker of the group. Proclaims herself to be a fan of Mai and has even confessed to her in the past.
----
* CosplayOtakuGirl: As revealed in Volume 4. She explains that, since she isn't good at drawing or writing, she decided cosplay was the best way to express her love for anime and manga.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: [[spoiler:She recognized Renako as soon as she saw her again in high school, but Renako didn't realize Kaho was the girl she befriended as a child until Volume 4.]]
* GenkiGirl: The most active member of the group, and the one that is always starting conversations and inviting the others to do something fun.
* TheNicknamer: Never calls her friends by their proper names, preferring to use nicknames.
* OneDegreeOfSeparation: One of her cosplay friends turns out to be a classmate of Renako's little sister.
* OutOfFocus: While Ajisai was already prominent in the first two Volumes and Satsuki had small but important roles in Volumes 1 and 3, Kaho mostly just hang around the group not doing anything important before gaining her CharacterFocus moment in Volume 4.
* ShipperWithAnAgenda: She has a moment in Volume 4 that fits this trope, but is PlayedForLaughs. Upon discovering the LoveTriangle Renako found herself in, she tells her to pick Ajisai because that would give Kaho the chance to "console" Mai.
* SmarterThanYouLook: She is a GenkiGirl to the maximum, the most fun-loving member of the group, and also one of the top 10 students of their grade. Renako was shocked to learn about that last part.
