[[caption-width-right:350:In full part of[[note]]'''From left to right:''' '''Front Row:''' Kiba, Hinata, Shino '''Back Row:''' Kurenai[[/note]]]]
Team 8, also known as Team Kurenai, was a ninja team led by Kurenai Yuhi. Its members are Kiba Inuzuka, his pet Akamaru, Hinata Hyuga, and Shino Aburame. The team specializes in tracking and locating through the use of the Hyuga clan's Byakugan, the Aburame clan's bugs, and the Inuzuka clan's dogs as well as Kiba's own heightened sense of smell.

Alongside Team 7, Team 8 was the only team not to lose any members throughout Part II (Team 10 losing Asuma, Team Guy losing Neji), though Kurenai herself was put on maternity leave to take care of her daughter. Hinata eventually married Naruto and the two settled down and had two children, Boruto Uzumaki and Himawari Uzumaki, while Kiba started dating Tamaki, and Shino became a teacher at the Academy.

* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Kiba, Shino, and Hinata appeared in episode 1 while Kurenai appear in episode 3 of the anime, which takes place before the events of the Chunin Exams.
* BreakOutCharacter: Kiba (the 'Naruto Type') started off as the loudmouthed antagonistic foil who also wanted to become Hokage in the Chuunin Exams. Later Hinata (the 'Sakura Type') stood up to Pain for Naruto's sake, brought Naruto out of despair after Neji's death, and got a [[Anime/TheLastNarutoTheMovie canonical movie]] devoted to telling the story of how [[spoiler:she and Naruto fell in love and became the main OfficialCouple]].
* FighterMageThief: Kiba's the Fighter as he primarily fights with taijutsu, using his ninjutsu to further enable this. Hinata is the Mage, her attacks are a lot more decisively fatal when properly employed, but [[GlassCannon she's not as tough as Kiba]]. Shino's the Thief, using bug ninjutsu to attack and misdirect his opponents rather than meet them head-on.
* GeodesicCast: A loud guy and a quiet guy (relative to each other), a girl, and an adult in charge. All teams of the Konoha 12 mirror the template set by Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi, respectively. This extends to most groups in the entire Ninja World, not just Naruto's friends.
* GenderEqualEnsemble: Unlike the other three teams, this is the only team that has the same amount of members for both genders (excluding Akamaru). Other teams have TheSmurfettePrinciple which ironically Kurenai herself satisfies as the other three sensei (Guy, Asuma, and Kakashi) are all men.
* OutOfFocus: Easily the team with the least focus out of the ones introduced, with three out of four of them (Shino, Kiba, Kurenai) being DemotedToExtra fairly early on in ''Shippuden'', with only sporadic appearances.
* SuperMode: Naruto gives all of the Konoha 12 (except the deceased Neji) his AnimalBattleAura via his [[SuperEmpowering Chakra Transfer technique]] and later he gives his peers even more power, allowing them to manifest his BadassLongcoat BattleAura to deal the final blow to Obito.
* TrueCompanions: All of the teams of the Konoha 12, plus Team 7. Emphasized more in the {{filler}}s.

->''You make mistakes... but... because of those mistakes... you get the strength to stand up to them... that's why I think you are truly strong.''

The former heiress of the Hyūga clan, later known as the "Byakugan Princess", she would eventually become the wife of Naruto Uzumaki, the mother of Boruto and Himawari Uzumaki, and adoptive mother of Kawaki. At first, she played the ShrinkingViolet role of the main cast, being completely weak and non-confrontational. Perhaps her most notable trait is her huge crush on Naruto, who is completely oblivious about it. However, it's this admiration that spurs her on to become stronger.

Hinata was born into the head family of the Hyūga clan and was expected to one day take it over. Since she started out extremely weak, this did not sit well with many others (namely Neji and her own father, Hiashi, though ''other'' extremely complicated reasons made it even worse for her). With the involvement of Kurenai and the aforementioned admiration of Naruto, she gradually develops as a warrior, becoming more confident.

Hinata, like all members of the Hyūga clan, has the kekkai genkai known as the Byakugan, characterized by the ProphetEyes of its owners. It grants the user nearly-360-degree vision, as well as the ability to sense the flow of chakra in the human body. Hinata uses the Gentle Fist style of martial arts, a special combat style designed to take advantage of the Byakugan's unique abilities.

In Part II, she goes out with Team Kakashi to search for Sasuke or Itachi, but that ends in failure when Itachi dies and Tobi takes Sasuke away. In Pain's invasion, she intervenes to save Naruto from Pain and finally tells him that she loves him. Pain defeats her and nearly kills her, triggering Naruto going into six-tailed mode, but she survives with Sakura's help. When the Shinobi Alliance marches against Madara, she is placed in the Second Division alongside her cousin Neji, Karui, and Kurotsuchi.

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Hinata's popularity and importance in the story increased significantly: she was able to snap Naruto out of his HeroicBSOD after the tragic death of her cousin Neji and inspires him to fight on. Later she and Naruto become the main stars of the {{canon}} movie ''Anime/TheLastNarutoTheMovie'', where their love for each other is fully explored and finally realized, ending with them [[HappilyEverAfter marrying]] and having [[BabiesEverAfter two beautiful children, Boruto and Himawari Uzumaki]]. She appears again as a loving and dedicated mother in her son's series, ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'', and [[Anime/BorutoNarutoTheMovie its movie version]]. As the series goes on, she becomes the adoptive mother of Kawaki after Naruto takes him in.

----
* AdaptationDyeJob:
** In the manga, everyone in the Hyūga clan has large pupil-less white eyes[[note]]"Byakugan" literally means "white eye"[[/note]], which are depicted as pale lavender in the anime.
** Her hair color is inconsistent. The official Viz translation of Chapter 39 describes her as a brunette. Kishimoto's official artwork, and the official colour manga, depicts her with indigo hair. [[AllThereInTheManual The databooks]] describe her as having [[RavenHairIvorySkin raven-black hair]]. The original anime and ''Shippuden'' depict her with dark blue hair. ''The Last'', ''Anime/BorutoNarutoTheMovie'', and the ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'' anime depict her with midnight blue hair, but, depending on the lighting, it can also look raven-black.
* AdaptationalBadass: In the anime filler arcs, she was given more screen time during battle and is seen winning battles. The four panels in Chapter 437 that showed her entering a brief fight with Pain while using her [[SignatureMove Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists]] before losing to him was extended considerably in the anime, having her actually spar with Pain and have her knocked down repeately, only to get up again.
* AdrenalineMakeover: The changes in her design, from childhood to teens to young adulthood, easily fit. [[https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/naruto/images/4/4f/Hinata_p1_render.png/revision/latest?cb=20160124060038 In Part I]], she has short hair and very baggy clothes. [[https://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/naruto/images/a/ac/Hinata_timekip.png/revision/latest?cb=20150825083511 In Part II]], she lets her hair grow and while her clothes don't show skin, they cannot hide her [[BuxomBeautyStandard growing curves]]. [[https://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/naruto/images/d/d4/Hinata_-_The_Last.png/revision/latest?cb=20160424214508 Finally]], in ''The Last'', her hair reaches her hips and she ditches the baggy coat/pants combo in favor of a sleeveless sweater, short shorts, and even ZettaiRyouiki.
* AlliterativeFamily: She and her family members have names that start with the letter "H". Like her father, '''H'''iashi and her sister, '''H'''anabi. Later, as '''H'''inata '''U'''zumaki, she shares her initials with her daughter, '''H'''imawari '''U'''zumaki.
* AlliterativeName: '''H'''inata '''H'''yuga. Later {{Subverted|Trope}} when she marries Naruto and takes on his last name for herself.
* AllLovingHeroine: Hinata is not fond of competition and fighting (though she will if pushed), and is shown to be incredibly empathetic thanks to her upbringing. Neji's troubled soul was all but clear to her, and she feels sadness in the fact that she cannot help him. In fact, she was one of the first people to identify with Naruto's painful childhood and desire to be acknowledged. She has admired him for it since childhood, which eventually paved the path to love. This is one of the many reasons that make her and Naruto BirdsOfAFeather, despite their [[OppositesAttract different personalities]].
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: She felt like this because she was stripped of her birthright as heiress to the Hyūga clan.
* AlmightyMom: She's definitely this in the ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'' anime. Her angry outbursts can surprise both her husband and their son when they are loudly fooling around too much or fighting with each other.
* AndIMustScream: When she's caught in the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Hinata is unable to move thanks to the genjutsu and can only mentally call out for Naruto as she's enveloped in the roots of the World Tree. It's not clear if this is unique to her or if she was just highlighted as an example.
* AnimalBattleAura: Hinata's signature technique, the Twin Lion Fists, create phantom guardian lions around Hinata's hands enhancing the effects of her Gentle Fist techniques with greater range and EnergyAbsorption capabilities.
* AnimalMotifs: Hinata has been associated with lions (or lionesses) after her fight with Pain. Lions are seen as symbols of bravery and protection. Throughout the series, Hinata stood up for her beliefs, fearlessly faced her foes, and has displayed her willingness to protect her loved ones.
* ApologyGift: In ''The Last'', during her time in Toneri's castle, under the guise of knitting one for Toneri, she knits another scarf for Naruto to replace the one that got destroyed earlier, to reaffirm her love for him, and most significantly, to [[spoiler: apologize to him for hurting his feelings by pretending to reject his first LoveConfession]].
* AscendedExtra: In the anime, where she frequently stars in filler arcs. Later Kishimoto stated that she ascended to "heroine" status by the end of the manga. Taken to its logical conclusion in ''The Last'' where she is the main female lead.
* AuraVision: The Byakugan's main ability is to see chakra, inside and out of the body.
* BabiesEverAfter: She and Naruto have a son named Boruto and a daughter named Himawari.
%%Do not add TheBabyOfTheBunch. It does not apply.
* BadassAdorable: She's the resident NiceGirl and ShrinkingViolet, who's also a certified LadyOfWar.
* BadassFamily: Hinata belongs to the Hyūga clan, which produces such badasses such as [[ThePatriarch Hiashi]], [[TheAce Neji]], and eventually [[LadyOfWar her]]. She later marries [[TheHero Naruto]] who later becomes the Seventh Hokage of Konoha, and the two of them start a family together, their first child being [[ChildProdigy Boruto]] and their second child being [[SilkHidingSteel Himawari]].
* BattleCouple: With Naruto in ''The Last''. They properly confess their love for one another while fighting [[BigBad Toneri]].
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: ''The Last'' reveals that this is the reason she was so inspired by Naruto. When she was little, three bullies picked on her because of her Byakugan. Naruto, without even knowing her, jumped in and stood up for her.
* BettyAndVeronica:
** Both Hinata and Sakura were [[ShipTease teased]] with Naruto throughout the series. Hinata is the "Betty", and Sakura is the "Veronica" and both girls toy with the standard, classic traits for the roles. While Hinata is of a much higher social status (akin to a noblewoman), and her shy behavior throws Naruto for a loop, her kind and gentle nature and constant devotion to the clueless Naruto makes her fit the "Betty" role. At the end of the manga, "Betty" wins, and Hinata marries Naruto.
** The "Archie" for Naruto's "Betty" (AHeroToHisHometown, AllLovingHero, NiceGuy, and childhood friend) and Toneri's "Veronica" (the BigBad, SmugSuper, {{Yandere}}, and a mysterious figure) in ''The Last''. Hinata has only ever loved Naruto, but she pretends to choose Toneri so that she could save Hanabi. In the end, she and Naruto become a couple and get married, while Toneri is left alone on the moon.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Hinata is one of the nicest and humblest ninjas anyone can meet. But, if you push her... Let's just say what she did to the BigBad in ''The Last'' has an entry in the [[NightmareFuel/TheLastNarutoTheMovie Nightmare Fuel page of that movie]] and leave it at that.
* BewareTheQuietOnes: The most silent of ninjas, mostly out of shyness, but isn't a pushover.
* BeYourself: This is one of her reasons for loving Naruto: he was always himself even in the face of overwhelming odds and situations, and he strove to become an even better version of himself.
* TheBigDamnKiss: She and Naruto kiss in the final scene of ''The Last''; it doubles as their OfficialKiss.
* BigEater:
** In the omake of ''Shippuden'' Episode 95. She wins a ramen eating contest, eating ''46'' pork roast ramen bowls. ''In half an hour''. To better drive the point home, here's the other contestants: Shino (fainted ten minutes in at 18 bowls), Kiba (fainted twenty minutes in at 20 bowls), Sai (fainted at the twenty-ninth minute, number of eaten bowls unknown), ''Naruto'' (third, he ate 30 bowls), and Yamato (second, he ate 31 bowls).
** Similarly, in ''Shippuden'' ending 34, which focuses on Teuchi and Ichiraku Ramen, there is a sequence of short scenes of various groups eating there. One of those scenes is Naruto and Hinata [[ShipTease eating together]]. Naruto eventually gets sick from eating too much in the middle of his seventh bowl, while Hinata has ''twelve'' empty bowls next to her.
** In Episode 18 of the ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'' anime, it's revealed that she holds the title of "the Legendary Queen of Gluttony" at Ichiraku Ramen, holding a record of 46 bowls in a single hour. For reference, she beats out ''both Choji and his father Choza''.
* BigSisterInstinct: There is one person who's higher up on Hinata's priority list than even Naruto: her younger sister Hanabi. This is undisputed in ''The Last'', when she chooses to "reject" Naruto's first LoveConfession and "agree" to marry [[BigBad Toneri]] so that she could have a better chance at saving Hanabi by herself, and then later on when she retrieves Hanabi's eyes from Toneri... ''by personally ripping them out of his eye sockets''.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Naruto. [[ShipperOnDeck Lee, Sakura, Kiba, and Shino, who are ardent supporters of the couple]], argue that Naruto and Hinata share many similar qualities despite having different personalities and fighting styles. Both are considered failures by those around them, both suffer from the statuses they inherited at birth, and both seek acceptance and recognition. Additionally, they are both kind-hearted, determined, loyal, and insecure. According to [[AllThereInTheManual the databooks]] and ''[[Literature/KonohaHidenThePerfectDayForAWedding Konoha Hiden]]'', both enjoy red bean soup and are passionate about plant preservation. Furthermore, their signature colors, orange and purple, share a common color "{{Red String Of Fate}}" on the [[https://web.archive.org/web/20170929145745/https://designcode.io/cloud/chapter1/Colors-Wheel.png color wheel]]. Finally, both are highly empathetic, even though this trait is often looked down upon in their world, which is one of the reasons why they develop a deep friendship that eventually blossoms into love. Sakura and Tsunade's conversation in ''[[Literature/SakuraHidenThoughtsOfLoveRidingUponASpringBreeze Sakura Hiden]]'' reveals that Naruto and Hinata's adaptable dynamic with one another is what makes their relationship work.
* BoyishShortHair: She sports this in Part I, and a slightly longer version in ''Manga/NarutoGaiden'' and ''Boruto''.
* BreakHisHeartToSaveHim: {{Zig Zagged}} in ''The Last''. She breaks Naruto's heart, not to save him but [[BigSisterInstinct to save Hanabi]]. Nevertheless, she later apologizes to him for doing so. Naruto, of course, forgives her.
* BreakoutCharacter: According to Kishimoto, Hinata's the most popular female character of the series, exceeding even the main heroine Sakura, despite all his unsuccessful efforts to make the latter popular. In [[http://web.archive.org/web/20141021073730/https://narutochapter.wordpress.com/2010/02/06/interview-masashi-kishimoto-jump-festa-2010/ this 2010 Jump Festa interview]], Kishimoto admitted that Hinata is more of a heroine than Sakura, and in [[http://web.archive.org/web/20170924111946/http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:164031 this 2014 Fuji TV Kobayashi interview]], he revealed that because Hinata's popularity kept growing on its own while Sakura was consistently unpopular, he started thinking about making Hinata the main heroine partway through the story, but ultimately he settled on gradually making her the heroine by the end of the manga. This also helped bring about ''The Last'', where Hinata is the main female lead and is also revealed to be Naruto's FirstLove and OneTrueLove.
* BreakTheCutie: Neji tries to do this to her during their fight in the Chunin Exams arc, but it doesn't work.
* BridalCarry: Naruto carries her this way a couple of times in the climax of ''The Last''.
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: {{Downplayed|Trope}} with Naruto. Naruto is the near epitome of {{Determinator}}, MagneticHero, and TheHeart--he's the one who usually brings someone else out of their brooding self-loathing attitude. However, during the moments that have even ''him'' reach the DespairEventHorizon, it has always been ''[[LivingEmotionalCrutch Hinata]]'' (the girl who was initially very self-deprecating of herself) who gives him the strength to gain back his confidence. Such moments include Hinata encouraging Naruto right before his fight against Neji in Chapter 98, and then Hinata [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan slapping sense into Naruto]] when he almost gives in to Obito's BreakingLecture following Neji's HeroicSacrifice in Chapter 615.
* BullyMagnet: She was picked on because the children thought that she thought of herself as superior to them because of her upbringing, when in reality, [[AbusiveParents her family constantly made her feel inadequate]]. ''The Last'' reveals that she was also picked on in the Academy for having the Byakugan.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has a well-endowed figure, especially after the TimeSkip. Many of the other girls are envious of her figure, especially in ''Prologue to Road to Ninja'' where they all bathe together, and the sight of Hinata's chest causes Sakura to have ACupAngst.
* CainAndAbel: Even though they're not actual siblings, she and Neji still fulfilled these roles at the beginning of the series, with Hinata being the Abel to Neji's Cain, before Neji did a HeelFaceTurn and became a [[BigBrotherInstinct big brother figure]] to her.
* CallBack:
** Hinata once told Naruto when he was down on himself that [[EyesNeverLie she could see in his eyes that he is strong]]. Three years later [[ShipTease Naruto tells her the same thing after he saves her from the White Zetsu]].
** "You said you wanted to become the best Ninja in your village and have everyone acknowledge you. Now, if someone who acknowledged you from the bottom of your heart appeared, wouldn't that someone become the most important person to you?" These were words Haku said to the then-rookie Naruto, and "[[OneTrueLove that someone]]" is the one he has been searching for for years -- only to realize in ''The Last'' that [[spoiler:it was [[ItWasWithYouAllAlong Hinata all along]], as she has acknowledged, admired and loved him [[WartsAndAll for the way he is]] since the very beginning. From then on, it becomes clear to him that Hinata is the person he's meant to protect and be with]].
* CannotSpitItOut: Regarding her feelings for Naruto, until she went to protect him from Pain. She also wants to cheer for him in his fight with Kiba in the Chunin Exam preliminaries, but can't because Kiba's her teammate, and doing so would upset him.
* CharacterDevelopment: Becomes more self-confident, even assertive, after the TimeSkip.
* CharacterExaggeration: Anime {{filler}}s and the SD spinoff tend to exaggerate Hinata's character into an obsessive stalker. In comparison to [[{{Canon}} the manga]] itself, she's a {{Downplayed|Trope}} version of the actual trope. Her shyness towards Naruto is also exaggerated to the point where she can barely talk to Naruto without stuttering or fainting. In the manga, although Hinata is still shy, she ''can'' have full conversations with Naruto without too much trouble. [[CharacterDevelopment She drops both of these behaviors entirely]] in Part II.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: She has admired and loved Naruto since she was a little girl, and as shown in a flashback in Chapter 538, she was the very first person to acknowledge Naruto [[WartsAndAll for the way he is]], even if Naruto himself didn't know that until [[LoveRevelationEpiphany he finally realizes he's in love with her]] in ''The Last''. At the end of the movie, they get HappilyMarried and have two children.
* TheChosenOne: In ''The Last'', it turns out she is the ''Byakugan Princess'' and can wield [[spoiler: Hamura Otsutsuki's chakra]] which is the only thing that can destroy [[spoiler:Toneri and his Tenseigan]]. {{Subverted|Trope}} in that she lacks the brute strength required to destroy [[spoiler:the Tenseigan and fight Toneri on her own]] and can only fulfill her destiny by [[spoiler:[[SuperEmpowering empowering]] and protecting Naruto]].
* TheClan: Hinata is born into the Hyūga clan. She later marries into the Uzumaki clan.
* ClarkKentOutfit: Female version. Her outfits in Part I and Part II conceal her figure, so it isn't uncommon to think she's a bit plain or overweight. The [[NonSerialMovie non-canon]] movie ''Road To Ninja'' takes the chance to show her silhouette, and she's actually [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Road-to-Ninja-Hinata-1_3186.jpg quite]] [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Road-to-Ninja-Hinata-2_9375.jpg svelte]]. ''The Last'' hits a midpoint between the two, with her outfit being more flattering and form-fitting but not quite as revealing as the ''Road To Ninja'' version. After Naruto [[LoveRevelationEpiphany realizes he's in love with her]] in the movie, he [[LampshadeHanging teases her]] about this.
* CloseRangeCombatant: The fact that she primarily uses Taijutsu, specifically her clan’s Gentle Fist, makes her this.
* ColorMotif: Hinata is mostly represented by the color purple, to be more precise lavender or a very light purple, along with cream and sometimes white.
* CombinationAttack:
** She and Neji can combine their Vacuum Wall Palm skill to double its power.
** She also pulls one off with Ino by guiding her Mind Transfer with her Byakugan in the [[WarArc Fourth Shinobi World War Arc]].
** She combines her Eight Trigrams Twin Lions Crumbling Attack with [[spoiler:Naruto's Rasengan]] in ''The Last''.
* TheConfidant: Naruto sees a [[BirdsOfAFeather kindred spirit]] in Hinata, which allows him to [[BeneathTheMask let the mask slip]] in front of her and [[HiddenDepths confess to her how he really feels about himself]] in Chapter 98: he only puts up a strong front so people wouldn't know about [[BoisterousWeakling his embarrassment and frustration at his own ineptitude]]. Considering that almost everyone in Konoha is ''still'' avoiding him like the plague at this point, and even his own teammates, while starting to grow somewhat fond of him, [[NoRespectGuy still find him too annoying to be around a lot]], let alone care about his problems, this is the ''only'' time Naruto ever reveals his deep thoughts to ''anyone''. Not only does Hinata hear him out, but she also [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre reassures him that he's truly strong]] because he never gives up in trying to overcome his failures. This is the foundation of their strong friendship and eventual romance.
* TheCutie: In Part I, as she's a cute, sweet 12-year-old girl whose crush on Naruto makes her adorable, while her insecurities make her relatable.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Not too long after her third birthday, she was subjected to extensive training as the Hyūga clan's heiress, which left her little time for a normal childhood. Circumstances out of her control led to a strained relationship with her cousin Neji for nine years, even though he was supposed to protect her with his life. Her unwillingness to harm her younger sister Hanabi in a duel to determine the clan's heiress led her to be disinherited. [[ParentalAbandonment Her family eventually disowned her and kicked her out]], which led to her living with her sensei [[ParentalSubstitute Kurenai]] for a while. She was picked on in the Academy for having the Byakugan. It's ultimately thanks to Naruto being in her life, and giving her the inspiration to persevere, that things got better.
%%Do not add DarkIsNotEvil. It does not apply.
* ADayInTheLimelight:
** Got two during Part II--once during the Invasion of Pain arc when she attempts to rescue Naruto from Pain and again during the [[WarArc Fourth Shinobi World War Arc]]. In both cases, they were temporary moments; in the former, her DisneyDeath served as the catalyst for Naruto's DespairEventHorizon, while in the latter she gives Naruto a RousingSpeech that pulls him out of despair. However, she quickly gets shunted back into the sidelines, along with everyone else in the Konoha 11, to bring the focus back onto the newly reformed Team 7.
** Has one in the GrandFinale, ''The Last'', where she is the main female lead [[spoiler:and the main love interest]], since the movie is the canonical bridge to the manga's epilogue, and is the tale of how [[spoiler:she and Naruto fell in love]].
* DCupDistress: In ''Prologue to Road to Ninja'', she is in the onsen... and is greatly embarrassed when her breasts keep floating up in the water.
* DeclarationOfProtection: Part of her LoveConfession to Naruto has her stating that she'll protect him.
* DeliberatelyDistressedDamsel: The real reason why she [[spoiler:"agrees" to marry Toneri]] is so that she can [[spoiler:infiltrate his castle, rescue Hanabi, and find and destroy the Tenseigan]].
* DemotedToExtra: Gets only a passing mention in ''Manga/{{Naruto Gaiden}}''.
* DesignatedVictim: Gets kidnapped a few times in {{Filler}}s and once manages to defeat her abductors after they had taken Naruto, Kiba and Shino captive when they tried to save her.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: In ''The Last'', she's the female protagonist and half of the OfficialCouple with the other being Naruto.
* DevotedToYou: Ever since they were children, Naruto has been the most precious person to Hinata and the one who has always inspired her to keep going and become stronger, not caring at all that everyone else in the village hated him. When she confessed her love for him, she outright told Naruto she is NotAfraidToDie for him.
* DudeMagnet: Chapter 102 reveals that Neji thought she was cute when they first met, [[PuppyLove when he was 4 and she was 3]], and he's implied to [[IncestSubtext have a crush on her]] in the non-canon spin-off ''Manga/RockLeesSpringtimeOfYouth''. In ''The Last'', both Toneri and Naruto consider her to be very beautiful. In the first ''Boruto'' novel, ''The New Leaves Soaring Through the Blue Sky!'', it's [[https://64.media.tumblr.com/d222eacc6aae62fff29aba860a60008f/tumblr_pksvgt955a1t7vsqp_540.jpg revealed]] that Boruto's friends often tell him that she's very beautiful.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[LoveRevelationEpiphany Naruto finally realizes he's in love with her]] and confesses to her in ''The Last'', but the road was long and hard.
* EducationMama: According to the ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'' anime, she is this towards her son.
* ElementalPunch: Of the PureEnergy variety, her Twin Lion Fists technique.
* EnergyAbsorption: The Twin Lion Fists are energy eating phantom lions.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: Byakugan users have pupil-less white eyes.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: She grew out her hair after the TimeSkip, which symbolized her maturity and newfound confidence and assertiveness.
* EyesAlwaysAverted: She had this issue in Part I, but she outgrew it by the Invasion of Pain arc.
* EyesNeverLie: Her bond with Naruto is so strong, they can communicate and understand each other through their eyes.
** In Chapter 559, Hinata could tell Naruto was the real one and not a Zetsu clone just by his eyes (without using her Byakugan).
** In ''The Last'', when Naruto confesses his love to her, he looks her straight in the eyes. Like the above example, she could tell by his eyes that he meant what he said.
* FamilyThemeNaming: In addition to her clan's sun theme naming. Hi'''na'''ta also shares a syllable with her sister, Ha'''na'''bi, [[spoiler:as well as her husband, '''Na'''ruto]].
* FanOfUnderdog: Out of all the kids, she is the only one who always admired Naruto since childhood.
--> '''Hinata:''' In my eyes, you're a proud failure! When I look at you, I get an intense feeling in my heart. Because you are not perfect... Because you fail... you have the strength to get back up... Because I believe that's what true strength is...
* FeminineWomenCanCook: Hinata is a very talented cook.
* FirstGirlAfterAll: She was introduced in the Chunin Exams arc (except in the anime, where she had a cameo in episode 1), thus seemingly making Sakura the First Girl. However, ''The Last'' reveals that Hinata met Naruto on [[SnowMeansLove a snowy day]] when [[ChildhoodFriendRomance they were children]], not too long before they enrolled in the Academy, ''before'' he met Sakura.
* FirstGirlWins: Hinata is the girl who has known, loved, and believed in Naruto the longest. [[spoiler:Naruto realizes his love for her in ''The Last'', and they're married with two children in the epilogue]].
* FirstLove: She's this for Naruto. The {{Tagline}} for ''The Last'' even outright confirms this, as it states "The last story is the FirstLove." As it goes, she's also Naruto's OneTrueLove, and the one he gets HappilyMarried to in the end.
* FlowerMotifs: [[AllThereInTheManual In the fourth databook]], Hinata's name is referred to as a pure white lily. The same flowers were put on [[spoiler:Neji's grave during his funeral]] in the penultimate chapter.
* FlowersOfFemininity: In ''The Last'' and ''[[Literature/KonohaHidenThePerfectDayForAWedding Konoha Hiden]]'', for her and Naruto's wedding, Hinata wears a white flower in her hair during the ceremony, and then two red flowers in her hair during the reception.
* FormFittingWardrobe: After the TimeSkip, her chest growth can't be missed, despite wearing a loose jacket.
* FormalCharactersUseKeigo: Befitting her status as a ShrinkingViolet and an {{Ojou}}, Hinata speaks thorough keigo and uses [[UsefulNotes/JapaneseHonorifics honorifics]] for everyone.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Phlegmatic: Introverted, cooperative, meticulous and gentle.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Gives one to Naruto in Chapter 615, when he almost crosses the DespairEventHorizon after Neji's death and Obito's BreakingSpeech seemed to take an effect on him.
* GirlyBruiser: She's very feminine and quiet, but from Part II onward she's a great and strong-willed fighter.
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: She's a polite, shy, and soft-spoken ProperLady, and heiress of the Hyūga clan, and in ''The Last'' she's shown [[TextileWorkIsFeminine knitting]] a scarf for Naruto. She's also a GirlyBruiser who doesn't mind getting messy, is a BigEater, and prefers wearing baggy clothing. Although she has [[LongHairIsFeminine long hair]] in Part II and ''The Last'', she has [[BoyishShortHair short hair]] more often, as shown in Part I, ''Manga/NarutoGaiden'', and the sequel ''Manga/{{Boruto}}''.
* GoodIsNotDumb: In her fight with Neji during the Chunin Exams, he says [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech "You really are a naive and spoiled child of the Main House"]] for attempting to fight him, the prodigy of the Hyūga clan. However, she turns the tables on him by saying that he is the one fighting fate. Naturally, this nearly gets her killed.
* GoodParents: Hinata becomes a kind and loving mother to her and Naruto's children, Boruto and Himawari.
* GoThroughMe: Jumped to Naruto's defense when he was pinned down by Pain despite knowing that it would almost certainly get her killed. She nearly got killed as a result.
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: She's TheOjou and predominantly wears purple/lavender clothing.
* GrewASpine: Ever since her fight against Neji in Part I, she becomes very willing to face powerful foes, and from Part II onward, she becomes willing to fight and even die for the ones she loves, especially Naruto.
* GrowOldWithMe: Naruto's proposal to her at the end of ''The Last'', after [[LoveRevelationEpiphany he finally realizes he's in love with her]].
--> '''Naruto:''' Hinata... do you remember that lesson in class? The one with, "If the end of the world came, who would you spend your last day with?" I couldn't write anyone's name down. I didn't know my parents, and I didn't have any friends... But now, I know exactly whom I'd choose. I want to be with you. Now and forever, until I die... [[OneTrueLove I want to be with you, Hinata!]]
* GuileHeroine: While not to the extent of Shikamaru or Shino, she uses her wits from time to time. In ''The Last'', she forms a plan to [[spoiler:save Hanabi and destroy the Tenseigan]] that succeeds [[XanatosSpeedChess through adaptation and improvisation]].
* HandBlast: The Empty Palm technique which is a palm thrust which launches a long ranged wave of invisible chakra.
* HappilyMarried: Her marriage to [[spoiler:Naruto]] is a happy and fruitful one. An official illustration depicting her present family has her blush and smile at her husband's side.
* HealTheCutie: Hinata was [[AbusiveParents abused by her harsh father and the rest of her family from childhood]], and she lost her rightful position as the heiress to the Hyūga clan because they mistook her [[NiceGirl kind, gentle nature]] for weakness. Her cousin Neji, who was supposed to protect her with his life, grew up to hate her for nine years, and he ends up brutally attacking her (both physically and verbally), ''to the point of almost killing her'', in the Chunin Exams preliminaries. Her familial shame resulted in a huge inferiority complex and [[ShrinkingViolet crippling shyness]], which tragically persisted up until she met [[{{Determinator}} Naruto]] when they were children. Seeing Naruto's enduring optimism and determination inspired her to keep trying, and eventually she gains the respect of her family. Naruto himself realizes he's in love with her in ''The Last'', and the two earn their happy ending together.
* TheHeart: [[NiceGirl Hinata]] can be considered this for the Hyūga clan and Team 8, even after she TookALevelInBadass in Part II. This is one of the reasons why she is [[BreakoutCharacter very popular with the fanbase]].
* HeiressToTheDojo: Formerly this. She was initially slated to be the heiress of the Hyūga clan until she refused to harm her younger sister Hanabi in a duel, which led to her defeat and resulted in her being passed over in favor of Hanabi.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Due to her insecurities and inferiority complex, she can get really down on herself, as shown in Chapter 559, or when she calls herself "selfish" for risking her life in an attempt to save Naruto from Pain, or during ''The Last'' when she beats herself for not doing enough to save her younger sister Hanabi. Kiba, Shino, Neji (post-CharacterDevelopment), and especially Naruto are always quick to reassure her.
* HiddenBuxom: She was busty even as a 12-year-old, as shown by the clothes she wore for the third part of the Chunin Exams and her midnight dance on a pond in the anime {{Filler}}. However, she wears a baggy coat to hide it, befitting her shy personality. It's most noticeable when Sakura takes off the coat to heal her during the end of Naruto's fight with Pain. She's been the most...gifted of her peers for a long time. In the ''Prologue to Road to Ninja'', she tries to hide them in the bathhouse because they keep floating and the other girls envy her. Albeit in the Boruto series she somehow manages to look no more buxom than Sakura, so far with no real explanation. A montage of scenes in a Boruto episode that includes a shot of how she looked in the movie ''The Last'' shows her as busty as before, implying that somehow she is hiding this in the Boruto series.
* HiddenDepths: ''The Last'' shows she is capable of playing [[XanatosSpeedChess speed chess]].
* HimeCut: Has blunt bangs, shoulder length sidelocks, and waist-length straight hair in Part II, befitting her newfound confidence and assertiveness. In ''The Last'', she wears the same hairstyle with bra strap length sidelocks and hip-length straight hair. By ''Boruto'', it's back into a straight bob.
* HoldingHands: She stated numerous times that it's her goal to catch up to Naruto and be able to hold his hand. She finally achieved it after she snapped him out of his HeroicBSOD following Neji's death.
* HoneyTrap: Hinata infiltrates [[spoiler:Toneri's castle]] to rescue [[spoiler:Hanabi]] by "agreeing" to marry him and playing along as his new bride.
* HopeBringer: She is this to Naruto during some of the darkest moments of his life in the main series.
* HopelessSuitor: For many years, Naruto was unaware of Hinata's feelings for him and he showed more attraction to Sakura, resulting in Hinato resigning herself to unrequited love. [[SubvertedTrope She's proven dead wrong]] in the second act of ''The Last'' where Naruto finally reciprocates her feelings and chooses to marry her, much to her joy.
* HotConsort: Becomes this to her husband, Naruto, when he becomes the Seventh Hokage.
* HotterAndSexier: Along with being HotBlooded and {{Stripperiffic}} in the [[ItsAWonderfulPlot alternate universe]] of the [[NonSerialMovie non-canon]] movie ''Road To Ninja''.
* ICantBelieveAGuyLikeYouWouldNoticeMe: In ''The Last'', Naruto confessing that he's in love with her was something she never expected, especially since earlier she thought she had lost her chance to be with him.
* IJustWantToBeLoved: Hinata has always wanted to be loved and acknowledged by her family, [[AbusiveParents who were abusive to her]] to the point where they stripped her of her rightful birthright as heiress to the Hyūga clan because they perceived [[LightIsGood her kind]], [[NiceGirl gentle nature]] for weakness and even [[ParentalAbandonment disowned her for a time]], during which she had to live with her sensei [[ParentalSubstitute Kurenai]].
* ImageSong: "Fuyu no Owari ni" ("At the End of Winter"), performed in character by Creator/NanaMizuki to promote ''The Last''.
* ImpostorForgotOneDetail: When she's impersonated in fillers, the forgotten detail is usually how she acts around Naruto.
* InadequateInheritor: Her poor combat ability caused her father to strip her of her birthright as the heiress to the clan's leadership and give it to her younger sister instead.
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: Hinata nearly avoids this. She acquires exponential damage to her body's chakra system and heart from facing Neji in the preliminaries. She still feels the affects of such a strain on her body that she breaks out in a violent coughing fit during the fight between Neji and Naruto a month later and subsequently passes out.
* InsecureLoveInterest: She has never seen herself as good enough for Naruto, even calling her doomed rescue from Pain an act of her selfishness.
* InstantExpert: In ''The Last'', after inheriting [[spoiler:her ancestor Hamura Otsutsuki's]] chakra, she uses the Chakra Transfer Technique to share her chakra with Naruto and completely replenish his reserves ''immediately'' with no trouble. This is especially impressive considering it took Sakura, an experienced medical ninja, three days to heal Naruto before collapsing from exhaustion afterwards.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: In ''The Last'', when Hinata mistakes Naruto's green scarf as a gift from another woman[[note]]it was actually knitted by his late mother Kushina, but she doesn't know that yet[[/note]], she tearfully wishes him well with the supposed owner of that scarf and decides to stop pursuing him. This is ultimately why, when [[LoveRevelationEpiphany Naruto realizes he's in love with her]] and starts being [[EveryoneCanSeeIt incredibly unsubtle with his feelings]], she became, {{iron|y}}ically, ObliviousToLove.
* JapanesePoliteness: In a world of characters who typically do not bother with proper honorifics, Hinata is one of the few who addresses everyone properly and politely.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: In ''The Last'', she destroys [[spoiler:Toneri's Tenseigan]] all while wearing a fine black dress.
* KimonoIsTraditional: She and Naruto have a traditional Japanese wedding complete with multiple wedding kimonos.
* LadyAndKnight: Hinata is the Lady (of the Hyūga clan, with a gentle nature, especially towards Naruto) to Naruto's Knight (a ninja with unyielding passion to those he loves, [[OneTrueLove Hinata]] in particular) of a good variant.
* LadyOfWar: Hinata becomes this in Part II. Her fighting style is perfect for this, since it's based less on brute strength and more on swiftness, chakra blocking, speed, and exploiting the enemy's weakness. Combine this with her long flowing hair and you get a pretty graceful female fighter. She finally achieves this status in the [[WarArc Fourth Shinobi World War Arc]], where she watches Neji's back, saves Naruto a few times against the [[EldritchAbomination Ten-Tails]], and masters the Sixty-Four Palms and combines it with her Twin Lion Fists. This continues on into ''The Last'', where she [[BigSisterInstinct personally retrieves Hanabi's]] [[spoiler:lost eyes by ''ripping them out of the eyesockets'' of the villain who stole them]] and later becomes Naruto's BattleCouple partner as they seal away the BigBad together.
* LaughOfLove: There are at least two instances where Hinata giggled after her crush and, eventually, her lover [[IdiotHero Naruto]] said something foolish. The first time was at the end of the first part of the Chunin Exams. The second time was in ''The Last'', while the two of them were investigating an abandoned shinobi village.
* LetsGetDangerous: In some fillers but {{Subverted|Trope}} when she faces Pain to protect Naruto (although not in [[AdaptationExpansion the anime version]]).
* LightIsGood: With her bright purple/lavender and cream/white color clothing and her kind and gentle nature, she definitely counts as this, though this made her a outcast in her [[LightIsNotGood hardcore]] home until the Chunin Exams arc in Part I.
* LikeParentLikeSpouse: She manages to bear similarities to ''both'' of Naruto's parents, Minato and Kushina:
** She matches Minato in personality: Both are [[NiceGuy quiet nice ninja]] who were the very first people to acknowledge their boisterous counterpart, and who have [[SingleTargetSexuality always loved and admired]] their boisterous counterpart [[ChildhoodFriendRomance since they were children]].
** She and Kushina both went through a lot of the same life events and share certain hobbies: Both have unique hair colors that match their respective personalities. Both were kidnapped by Kumo ninja when they were younger because of the powers they possessed. Both fell in love with their husbands because [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan their husbands are good men]] who are [[AmazonChaser attracted to their strength]], consider them very beautiful partly because of their long flowing hair, love their home cooking, and [[LoveRedeems changed them for the better]]. Both are not afraid to die to protect Naruto because of [[ActOfTrueLove their love for him]]. Both were bullied as children because of a physical feature of theirs -- Kushina's round face and red hair; Hinata's Byakugan eyes. [[TextileWorkIsFeminine Both enjoy knitting scarves]]. Both fell in love with their husbands via RescueRomance, and both rescue scenarios utilized the RedStringOfFate. Both passed down their round face and eye shape to their sons. Finally, both are considered really scary by their sons when they get mad.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: She saved Naruto from his own doubts and even moments when he was on the brink of despair. Considering what he has to go through on a daily basis, it's not surprising that she's his rock.
** Naruto's emotional dependency on Hinata first became apparent during the Invasion of Pain arc. Along with still reeling from his master Jiraiya's death, Naruto has just seen his village completely demolished, confirmed that his sensei Kakashi is dead, and just saw his frog-sensei get killed in front of him, and yet he still maintains control of his emotions. But as soon as he is ForcedToWatch Pain almost fatally stab Hinata with one of his chakra rods, right after [[AnguishedDeclarationOfLove she sincerely confessed her love to him]]--which was the first time he ''ever'' heard ''anybody'' say that to him genuinely--Naruto crosses the DespairEventHorizon, [[DarkestHour completely loses his will to live]], and [[FromBadToWorse nearly releases the Nine-Tails]].
---> '''Naruto:''' When Pain struck Hinata I was so mad, so full of rage, my heart ''instantly'' connected with the Kyuubi's will.
** If one were to keep a close eye on their interactions throughout the series, Naruto seems calmer around Hinata and more open about his insecurities with her than with anybody else, as if being with her helps him be at peace with all the pain he's been through in his life.
** In ''The Last'', after Hinata "rejects" Naruto (actually a ruse so that she could have a better chance of rescuing [[BigSisterInstinct her younger sister Hanabi]] and save the earth), Naruto, who didn't know about her plan, crosses the DespairEventHorizon so badly that he falls into a deep depression for four days -- three of which he spends in an AngstComa -- and comes very close to ''giving up on everything''.
** [[https://web.archive.org/web/20180401153838/https://uzumakibabies.tumblr.com/post/115104310321/throughout-that-mission-naruto-realized-that This quote]] from ''[[Literature/SakuraHidenThoughtsOfLoveRidingUponASpringBreeze Sakura Hiden]]'' explicitly states just how important Hinata is to Naruto:
---> "Throughout [[Anime/TheLastNarutoTheMovie that mission]], Naruto realized that Hinata's being was irreplaceable and essential to him."
* LonelyRichKid: Emphasized in her flashback in ''Shippuden'', when they show several other children coming to the conclusion that she's looking down on them.
* LoveConfession:
** Finally confesses her love to Naruto when she tries to save him from Pain in Chapter 437.
---> '''Hinata:''' [[TheEeyore I used to always cry and give up... I made many wrong turns...]] But you... You helped me find the right path. I always chased after you... I wanted to catch up to you... I wanted to walk beside you all the time. I just wanted to be with you... [[LoveRedeems You changed me! Your smile is what saved me!]] That is why I am not afraid to die protecting you!! [[AnguishedDeclarationOfLove Because... I love you...]]
** In ''The Last'', she receives two of these from Naruto. She couldn't respond properly to the first one, due to Toneri's interfierence. She gladly accepts [[GrowOldWithMe the second one]], and they even [[SealedWithAKiss seal it with a kiss]].
* LoveFloats: In the final scene of ''The Last'', she and Naruto have TheBigDamnKiss while floating in mid-air.
* LoveRedeems: In her aforementioned LoveConfession to Naruto, she says that his smile and determination has changed her for the better.
* LuminescentBlush: Happens a lot when she's around Naruto, mostly in Part I. In the {{filler}}s, sometimes her [[HighPressureEmotion whole face lights up]].
* MadeOfIron:
** She's tough enough to take multiple attacks from Neji, even without having access to her chakra, and finally passes out only because of the immense stress to her heart.
** Happens again in her brief fight with Pain, taking an attack by someone who's already single-handedly leveled the whole village and killed multiple high-level ninja and then getting stabbed through the chest, yet she survives it. [[AdaptationExpansion The anime]] takes it further, where she gets ''repeatedly'' beaten down by Pain's attacks but manages to keep getting back up until she's finally impaled--and she ''still'' survives long enough to get treated by Sakura.
* MagicalEye: The Byakugan, a [[SuperPowerfulGenetics genetically inherited ability]] giving incredibly [[SuperSenses enhanced eyesight]].
* MartialMedic: Gives Naruto an emergency [[DramaticDislocation bone-setting]] with the Gentle Fist. She is also one of the only non-medical ninja shown to sensibly carry a first-aid kit and a secret healing ointment from her clan. [[AdaptationExpansion In the anime]], she is also capable of using the HealingHands of a medic ninja.
* MartialPacifist: Dislikes fighting, but is willing to go as far as she has to if she has no other choice. Sadly, this is why, even after Hiashi openly acknowledged that she's gotten stronger and applauded her for trying to fight Pain, he still deems her unfit to be a leader in the Fourth Shinobi World War.
* MeaningfulName: Her means ''sunny place/towards the sun'', a fitting name for someone who manages to help Naruto during some of the darkest moments of his life.
* MementoMacGuffin: She met Naruto when she was a little girl, when he protected her from bullies. They beat him and ripped his red scarf. Hinata kept the red scarf as a memento of her first meeting with him. Said scarf is an important plot item in ''The Last''.
* MindlinkMates: With Naruto in Chapter 677. When Hinata gets caught in the Infinite Tsukuyomi, she mentally calls out to Naruto in despair. Naruto hears her and immediately tries to rush to her aid.
* MissingMom: Her mother is never seen nor mentioned in the manga, because she never really had anything substantial to do with the plot. She hasn't even been named. However, her mother briefly appears as [[AdaptationExpansion an addition to the anime]] in a family portrait during a flashback while she's fighting Pain, and Hinata cites her as the source of her kindness. She is not seen in the present day either, which strongly indicates that she passed away, given the fact she was not present at Hinata's wedding, her home life lacks the compassionate presence of a mother to alleviate her tribulations, and her husband has the hardened disposition of a widower.
* ModestRoyalty: Eldest daughter and former heiress of the Hyūga clan and was later given the title of ''Byakugan Princess'', yet outside of her family she isn't treated differently from her peers, and she's the most modest looking out of the girls. Even when she marries Naruto and basically becomes the [[HotConsort First Lady of Konoha]], she's still as modest as always.
* MoralityPet:
** Hinata is probably the only person in the series that [[{{Tsundere}} Sakura]] isn't cynical or easily angry towards, treating her like a surrogate younger sister.
** In the filler arcs, Hinata can be this to [[TheStoic Neji]], post-CharacterDevelopment.
* MsFanservice:
** During a {{Filler}} episode of Part I, Naruto caught a glimpse of Hinata, naked, while she was dancing in the middle of a river, and the camera gives us a SexySilhouette of her as she does so. In actuality, she was practicing a new jutsu, and Naruto never realized who it was.
** Later, during the ''Prologue to Road to Ninja'' special, Hinata was shown in the hot springs where she was making an effort to keep her breasts from floating up from the bath water, making the other girls (especially Sakura) jealous. During the ''Road to Sakura'' special, Hinata reluctantly wore a (very) tight, [[LadyInRed red Qipao dress]]. Her AlternateSelf in the [[NonSerialMovie non-canon]] movie ''Road To Ninja'' fits this trope, all the way through wearing short shorts and a top that shows her cleavage and bares her midriff.
** Lastly, there was one filler episode, a Team 8 flashback, where the audience finally got to see Hinata and Kurenai in the Hot Springs. Strangely enough, this episode actually had a shot of Hinata scarcely covered in a ModestyTowel.
* MumLooksLikeASister: When she's next to her two children in ''Anime/BorutoNarutoTheMovie'', she definitely gives more of a young-adult sister vibe than a fully matured woman.
* MundaneUtility: When her boyfriend Naruto freaks out over an expensive menu during their first official date, upon seeing that he's down on cash with her Byakugan, she proposes a cheaper alternative ([[TrademarkFavoriteFood Ichiraku Ramen]]) to spare him embarrassment.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: In ''The Last'', the look in her eyes as she watches Naruto [[spoiler:fall to earth after she "rejected" him just screams this]].
* NervesOfSteel: When the push comes to shove, she's utterly fearless, as shown as early as the Chunin Exams where she refutes her cousin Neji, and later when she faces against Pain, despite knowing she might not make it out alive, she remains calm and composed. Finally in the [[WarArc Fourth Shinobi World War Arc]], where despite her grief from Neji's sacrifice, she musters enough courage to give the despairing Naruto a RousingSpeech, that gets him back in the fight.
* NiceGirl: Hinata Hyūga is well-known for her exceptional kindness and gentle nature. Despite being almost killed by her own cousin, Neji, she forgives him and never holds a grudge. Hinata's genuine personality makes her stand out from the other characters in the series, as she never seems pretentious or overly aggressive, even in the most difficult situations. She treats others with respect and compassion and is never demanding or scary unless there is a valid reason. Out of all the girls that Naruto has met, Hinata is the sweetest-tempered, most honest, most open-minded, and most patient with him, despite his flaws. She genuinely cares about him and supports him throughout his struggles, even when others doubt him (particularly {{Tsundere}}s like Ino and especially Sakura). [[CreatorsFavorite Her kindness has earned her the admiration of the creators of the series, who appreciate her strength, compassion, and unwavering commitment to doing what is right, no matter the cost]].
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Is on the receiving end of one with Neji during the Chunin Exams to the extent that several jōnin had to step in and restrain him from killing her outright. She's still not fully healed a month later.
* NotAfraidToDie: Part of her character arc has her willingly facing foes far above her league without any hint of fear, completely willing to die for the sake of her loved ones, like the time with Pain, and again against Obito where she was ready to take the bullet for Naruto, until Neji stepped in to shield the both of them.
* ObliviousToLove: Naruto ''finally'' realizes he's in love with her in ''The Last'', but she doesn't notice it at all until he spits it out. What makes this painfully {{iron|y}}ic is that Naruto couldn't comprehend both Hinata's feelings and his own as romantic for ''years'', even after she spat it out to him in the Invasion of Pain arc. Then, when he starts [[EveryoneCanSeeIt being incredibly unsubtle with his feelings]], ''she'' doesn't realize it until a FreudianSlip during a conversation between them reveals that he's in love with her.
* OfficialCouple: She and Naruto ''finally'' become a couple in ''The Last'' and get married only a few months later. The epilogue shows them with two kids, a son and a daughter.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Sends one of the 10 Tails divisions reeling with 8 Trigrams 64 Palms, then summons up her Twin Lion Fists and declares she's going to combine them with the 64-Palms. Sadly we don't get to actually see her do this combination but given she is fine later she apparently won.
* {{Ojou}}: Hinata is the daughter of one of the four noble clans of Hidden Leaf Village. She was raised to be proper and reserved.
* OneTrueLove: Naruto has spent almost his entire life searching for the one person who would love him unconditionally, in spite of everything that has and will transpire in his life, along with [[WartsAndAll all of his flaws]], like his parents would have if they lived beyond his birth. However, since he never understood the ''[[WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove romantic]]'' implications of such a relationship, he's been blind to the fact that the person he's been searching for has been right in front of him all this time: Hinata, the girl who has admired, acknowledged and loved him for the way he is [[ChildhoodFriendRomance since the day they first met as children]]. It takes him until ''The Last'' to [[LoveEpiphany finally realize]] who the precious person he wants to protect and be with is.
** Confirmed by Kishimoto in [[https://web.archive.org/web/20151015033145/https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interview/2015-10-14/masashi-kishimoto-at-new-york-comic-con/.94186 this 2015 New York Comic Con interview]]:
--->'''Creator/MasashiKishimoto:''' I think what made me realize it was partly because, if you really look back and think about it, Hinata always supported and acknowledged Naruto, even before Master Iruka. She had the ability to see beyond his reputation and see the true person inside. I think I started realizing that '''''they were meant to be'''''.
* OneeSama: Her younger sister Hanabi adores her for her kindness and strength, and [[AdaptationExpansion the two episodes]] that focus on their relationship even use the trope name.
* OppositesAttract: Hinata is a shy ProperLady whose fighting style is [[LadyOfWar precise and accurate]], and she is in love with the HotBlooded boisterous Naruto whose fighting style is [[LeeroyJenkins unorthodox and full of surprises]], and he realizes he's in love with her too. Even more so with their clothing in Part II: Orange and Black for Naruto, Lavender and White for Hinata, like yin and yang, although Naruto is actually the yang (light) to Hinata's yin (dark).
* OutOfCharacterMoment:
** In the Bikochu {{Filler}} arc, there was a RunningGag of Naruto [[TookALevelInDumbass being unable to differentiate insects.]] This even gets on [[ShrinkingViolet Hinata's]] nerves. This was the only moment where Hinata ever raises her voice at Naruto.
** In ''Kakashi Hiden'', she scolds Kakashi for hitting Naruto.
** In ''The Last'', she coldly rejects Naruto's LoveConfession and leaves with Toneri. {{Justified}} in that she was bluffing so she could be taken to Toneri's castle.
* PantheraAwesome: Both her Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists and its upgraded version, her Eight Trigrams Twin Lions Crumbling Attack.
* ParentsKnowTheirChildren: Downplayed. When her thirteen year old self meets a time traveling Boruto, she acts a lot more at ease than [[ShrinkingViolet her usual self]], but give no indication that she knows who he is.
* PatientChildhoodLoveInterest: She has been carrying the torch for Naruto that goes all the way back to their childhood days and lasts the duration of the whole series. True to the trope, instead of being upfront, she takes it slowly, by cultivating a strong friendship with him, eventually culminating in ''The Last'' where her patience is ''finally'' rewarded, as he realizes his feelings for her and reciprocates her love, and the two become a couple.
* PimpedOutDress: She is put in a black Gothic inspired one for [[spoiler:her wedding to Toneri after being [[HypnotizeTheCaptive turned into one of his puppets]]; upon being freed from the mind-control by Naruto]], she turns this into a BattleBallgown.
* PluckyGirl: She is one of the first to adopt Naruto's ninja way after all:
** This is the defining trait of her fight against Neji. She hyperventilates and almost breaks before the fight even begins due to Neji's BreakingSpeech, but after Naruto helps her recover by constantly shouting out words of encouragement (and being the ''only'' one to do so), she does not give up ''ever''. Even when she loses, she manages to get the last word in, and she stands her ground when Neji tries to kill her right then and there.
** She reaffirms it when she goes against Pain fully knowing that she might not make it, since she wants to not only tell Naruto that she loves him, but to tell him that [[LoveRedeems it's thanks to him that she's reached the place she is now]].
*** In the manga Hinata and Pain have a brief fight that ends with him delivering a OneHitKill, but in [[AdaptationExpansion the anime version]] of that fight, she gets up...and gets up...''[[HowMuchMoreCanHeTake and keeps getting up...!]]''
* ThePowerOfLove: The single presence of Naruto can literally change her from a ShrinkingViolet to a LadyOfWar.
* PowerOfTrust: She and Naruto have placed a great amount of trust in each other since the Chunin Exams arc.
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: She gives one to [[spoiler:Toneri]] in ''The Last'', right before she [[spoiler:reclaims Hanabi's eyes]].
--> '''Hinata:''' I'm taking [[spoiler:Hanabi's eyes back]].
* PressurePoint: The Gentle Fist style her clan uses focuses on striking these [[RapidFireFisticuffs very quickly]], the effects being able to [[PowerNullifier shut down the flow of chakra]] and [[TouchOfDeath cause organ failure]].
* PrettyInMink: Wears a fur coat in Part I.
* PrettyPrincessPowerhouse: She's the eldest princess of the Hyūga clan. ''The Last'' even gives her the title ''Byakugan Princess''.
* PreviouslyOverlookedParamour: Naruto is initially so emotionally stunted by his upbringing in the village that resulted from his parents' deaths and the way the majority of the villagers treated him because of Kurama that he is completely unable to tell the difference between romantic love and the kind of 'love' one would feel for a favorite treat (such as ramen). As a result, he proves [[ObliviousToLove completely oblivious]] to how Hinata is just about the only one who genuinely likes (and later loves) him for exactly as he is even back when they were both little kids and the fact that he also ends up developing a shallow crush on Sakura as a result of him coming to view her as a prize to be won in his rivalry against Sasuke (whom Sakura herself likes) certainly doesn't help either. It isn't until long after he's matured and later realized the true nature of different types of love (among other things) that he finally becomes aware of how Hinata had always been willing and able to give him the love and attention he'd wanted for so long even when no one else would. From there, the two eventually manage to become an OfficialCouple.
* ProphetEyes: Inherent to all members of the Hyūga clan.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Disregarding how Hinata prefers to wear purple in Part II, ''The Last'' reveals that Hinata, like [[spoiler:Toneri]], possesses [[spoiler:Hamura's chakra as well]], and this chakra is colored purple.
* TheQuietOne: Hinata was the only female example in the manga in Part I, until [[DarkActionGirl Konan]] appeared in Part II.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: She has been taught the Sixty-Four Palms which is more like rapid fire [[FingerPokeOfDoom Finger Pokes of Doom]].
%%Do not add RavenHairIvorySkin. It does not apply.
* RedBaron: She is given the title of "Hyūga Heiress" or "Hyūga Princess" throughout the ''Naruto'' and ''Boruto'' manga, and then the "Byakugan Princess" as of ''The Last''. Also PlayedForLaughs in the ''Boruto'' anime, where she is given the title of "Legendary Queen of Gluttony" at Ichiraku Ramen.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue to Sakura's Red. Whereas Hinata is a {{Shy Blue Haired|Girl}} NiceGirl who can barely talk to Naruto [[CharacterDevelopment until Part II]], Sakura is a HotBlooded rose-haired {{Tsundere}} who is ready to inflict [[DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale unnecessary damage]] on Naruto. By Part II, even their fighting styles became total opposites to each other's: they both use chakra, but Sakura is using it to increase the strength of her punches to [[SuperStrength monstrous levels]], making her a CuteBruiser, whereas Hinata is using the PressurePoint-based Gentle Fist-style of the Hyūga clan, making her a LadyOfWar. Furthermore, as a result of their respective personalities and body figures, Sakura has ACupAngst whereas Hinata is [[HiddenBuxom hiding her buxom figure in baggy clothes]]. Also, according to the anime, Sakura is a LethalChef whereas Hinata is a [[SupremeChef supreme one]].
* RedStringOfFate: Over the course of ''The Last'', she knits three red scarves to give to Naruto and they are used as a symbolic representation of the trope name. It also serves as a CallBack and MeaningfulEcho to the story of how Naruto's own parents fell in love, indicating that her fate is tied to Naruto's in the same way.
* RepeatWhatYouJustSaid: To Naruto in ''The Last'' after he [[FreudianSlip accidentally reveals]] that [[spoiler:he's in love with her]].
* RepetitiveName: Hinata's given name is an AlternateCharacterReading for the kanji her surname is composed of, thus making "Hinata Hyūga (日向ヒナタ)" a heteronym for "Hinata Hinata".
* RescueRomance: The anime reveals that her long-standing admiration of Naruto began when he tried to protect her from three bullies. This turns her "fight" against Pain into a MeaningfulEcho, with their roles reversed. ''The Last'' [[RetCanon officially confirms]] that this is how Naruto and Hinata met, albeit with a different place and different time.
* ReturningTheHandkerchief: In ''The Last'', she does this with [[RedStringOfFate a handmade red scarf]].
* RousingSpeech: She gives one to Naruto before he duels Neji and then a very impressive one during his fight against Obito and Madara.
--> '''Hinata:''' Neji just said... that your life is not just your own anymore… Do you understand what he meant? Your words and desire to not let your comrades die... Neither of them are lies! What inspired Neji and carried him this far were those very principles! It's not just you, Naruto… we all hold those same words and feelings within our hearts. They're what bind our lives together and make us comrades. If we all give up and discard those words and feelings now, [[HeroicSacrifice Neji's sacrifice]] will have been for nothing... And that is when your comrades truly die, for you are no longer comrades then. That's how I feel... Therefore... stand up together with me, Naruto... [[MeaningfulEcho Because never going back on one's word]]... [[YouAreNotAlone is my ninja way too!]]
* RuleOfSeven: In love with Naruto, a member of Team 7, confesses to Naruto in Chapter 437 (4+3=7). The final chapter (Chapter 700), shows her [[spoiler:HappilyMarried to Naruto, the 7th Hokage]]. The 7th ''Shippuden'' movie shows her and [[spoiler:Naruto ''finally'' becoming an OfficialCouple, the two sharing their FirstKiss, and having their wedding in the credits]]. Also, her voice actress is [[SevenIsNana Nana]] Mizuki.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Downplayed, as Hinata has some traits not revolving around Naruto nor is she his actual interest until the series is almost concluded, but most of Hinata's motivations, on-screen moments, and characterization involved Naruto in some shape or form. In fact, if you were to remove Naruto from this trope entry alone, it'd be a '''much''' smaller entry.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Gender-inverted with Naruto. She's a quiet ShrinkingViolet while he's a boastful {{Keet}}.
* ShapingYourAttacks: Her Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists shapes chakra around her hands into the form of guardian lions. This extends her attack range and the damage her attacks do and even drains away the chakra of those the lions make contact with.
* ShrinkingViolet: Terribly shy and lacking confidence. There's a reason why she once provided this trope's picture. This is largely because of the damage [[AbusiveParents her ultra-strict father's]] family did to her self-esteem, as well as her [[FanOfUnderdog huge crush on Naruto]]. When she first saw Naruto after nearly three years she ''fainted'', [[AdaptationExpansion twice in the anime]]. When said guy is in trouble, however, ''[[NotAfraidToDie she is ready to die for him]]''. She does [[CharacterDevelopment gradually outgrow her shyness]] in [[TimeSkip Part II]]; she's still quiet and soft-spoken, but she's also much more confident in herself and her abilities.
* ShyBlueHairedGirl: She is a ShrinkingViolet and she has dark blue hair.
* ShyFingerTwiddling: She did this a ''lot'' when talking to Naruto in Part I. Used to provide the page pic, which is taken from ''her first on-screen appearance in the anime,'' as seen [[https://static.miraheze.org/allthetropeswiki/4/46/Shy_fingers_by_Hinata_Hyuga.jpg here.]]
* SickeninglySweethearts: In Episode 12 of the ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'' anime, when Boruto and Mitsuki talk about Naruto, Boruto says "Kaa-chan ni deredere shite", which is properly translated to "He's lovestruck towards Mom"[[labelnote:Explanation]]"Deredere" means "lovestruck" or "lovey-dovey"[[/labelnote]]. This is one of the reasons why Boruto views him as a BumblingDad. In subsequent episodes, we ''do'' see [[HappilyMarried Naruto and Hinata]] acting like this towards each other -- in Episode 18, Naruto lovingly recalls taking Hinata to Ichiraku Ramen on their first date, and in Episode 127, Hinata lovingly recalls how much she's admired Naruto [[ChildhoodFriendRomance since they were children]].
* SignificantWardrobeShift: Hinata wore a baggy hoodie or coat throughout the series to signify her insecurity and shy nature. By the time of ''The Last'' she wears a sleeveless sweater, short shorts, and even ZettaiRyouiki as her shinobi attire, which signifies that she has outgrown her shyness and is even more self-confident than she already became in Part II.
* SilkHidingSteel: She's very kind and polite, but she's also a very talented fighter possessing NervesOfSteel. In ''The Last'', she gives [[spoiler:Toneri]] a very [[EyeScream powerful demonstration]] of the trope.
* SingleTargetSexuality: She has only ever loved Naruto. It's this fact that allows [[ShipperOnDeck Sakura]] to [[spoiler:snap Naruto out of his HeroicBSOD after Hinata "rejects" him]] in ''The Last''; as Sakura puts it, Hinata has only ever had eyes for him, and that's something that will ''never'' change.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: While all the other girls like Sakura and Ino were [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys drooling over "bad boy" Sasuke]], Hinata never even noticed him, preferring the nice, cheerful, neglected Naruto. In fact, she first met, and later developed feelings for, Naruto when [[RescueRomance he defended her against three bullies]] when [[ChildhoodFriendRomance they were kids]].
* SnowMeansLove: She met Naruto on a snowy day before they enrolled in the Academy, and she has been in love with him ever since. Snow remains a reoccurring motif during Hinata's character arc (in part due to her birthday being on December 27th), but none more so than in ''The Last'', which depicts the final, major developments of her romance with Naruto, which kept getting pushed to the background throughout the main series.
* SpeechImpededLoveInterest: She had a rather pronounced stutter throughout her childhood due to her [[AbusiveParents abusive family]] and [[HeroicSelfDeprecation self-confidence issues]]. In Part I, she trips over her own words and says "Ano/Um" a lot more than necessary. By Part II, [[CharacterDevelopment she stops stuttering so much]], even around [[FanOfUnderdog her crush]], Naruto. She completely loses her stutter by the Invasion of Pain arc. She and Naruto ''finally'' become a couple in ''The Last''.
* StalkerWithACrush: {{Downplayed|Trope}} with Naruto. Hinata developed a crush on him because of his ambition and ideals, and [[RescueRomance he protected her from a trio of bullies on the day they enrolled in the Academy]], but she suffered from [[ShrinkingViolet painful shyness]] due to her [[AbusiveParents abusive family]], and was thus forced to admire him from afar. However, her feelings for him are genuine, rather than an over-obsessive crush. This makes her one of the more sympathetic examples out there, since she is very clearly shown to truly care about him. And her aforementioned shy nature made it hard for her to approach Naruto in Part I. [[CharacterDevelopment She completely dropped this behavior]] in Part II, and her feelings became a symbol of real love when she attempted to save him from Pain.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: [[AdaptationExpansion The anime]] shows that Hinata takes after her mother in appearance. Her own daughter with Naruto, Himawari, takes after her as well, although she has Naruto's face, whiskers, and InnocentBlueEyes.
* StunnedSilence: Her reaction to Naruto saying that he liked people like her in the Chunin Exams arc, and then when he reveals that he's in love with her in ''The Last''.
* SuperEmpowering: In ''The Last'', after [[spoiler:Hamura Otsutsuki]] gives Hinata his chakra and deems her TheChosenOne, she is able to use the Chakra Transfer technique to share her chakra with [[spoiler:Naruto]] in order to protect him. She is able to do this ''immediately'', which is especially impressive considering it took [[WorldsStrongestMan Naruto]] some time to learn how to share Kurama's chakra with his comrades.
* SupernaturalMartialArts: The Gentle Fist which provides examples of...
* SuperpowerfulGenetics: The Byakugan, which seems to be the most dominant of all bloodlines seen so far extending to every member of the Hyūga clan except for her own son with Naruto, Boruto, who inherits his father's InnocentBlueEyes.
* SuperSenses: Among other abilities, the Byakugan allows nearly 360-degree vision and telescopic view. She was able to increase her Byakugan's telescopic range over time: whereas she could see things 1 kilometer away in Part I, by Part II she could see things from at least 10 kilometers, and by ''The Last'' she could see things from at least 20 kilometers.
* SweetTooth: [[AllThereInTheManual According to the databooks]], her favorite food are cinnamon rolls and zenzai (red bean soup); coincidentally, the latter is also the kind that Naruto likes as well.
* TearsOfJoy: In the Invasion of Pain arc, she shed tears of relief upon learning that Naruto managed to defeat Pain, and when he returned to the village safe and sound. She does this twice in ''The Last'': first, [[spoiler:when Naruto wholeheartedly accepts the remains of the red scarf she made for him]], she tears up and smiles. At the end of the movie, when [[spoiler:Naruto [[GrowOldWithMe proposes]] to her]], she sheds a SparklingStreamOfTears in elation.
* TextileWorkIsFeminine: She is seen knitting [[RedStringOfFate a red scarf]] many times in ''The Last''.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Girly Girl to Sakura's Tomboy.
* TookALevelInBadass: In Part II, she not only becomes assertive and much more confident, but she also starts putting good use to her abilities.
* ToughLove: It appears that becoming a mother has made her sterner in the ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'' anime, with her son in particular.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: According to Naruto in ''Boruto'' Episode 18, Hinata loves Ichiraku's Ramen as much as he does. Boruto is naturally skeptic, since Naruto went out of his way to endorse the restaurant and is clearly a biased fan. That said, given her BigEater tendencies, it's not hard to believe this, given that she is the reigning queen of most ramen bowls eaten in a single hour.
* TranquilFury: Due to her kind and gentle nature, she almost never shows her anger, but whenever she does, it manifests itself as this:
** In ''The Last'', [[spoiler:[[BigBad Toneri]]]] was the recipient of [[EyeScream such fury]] in a very [[NightmareFuel/TheLastNarutoTheMovie scary moment]].
** According to the ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'' anime, this is how she scolds her son, to a high degree of success. The boy may be resentful towards his increasingly busy father, but he's very scared to cross lines with his mother. In Episode 10, after her son skips school, she greets him at the door with [[NightmareFace her Byakugan activated]]. He is immediately terrified of her.
** In the "Naruto To Boruto the Live 2019" event during the live-reading play, she shuts down both Naruto and Sasuke when they start bickering over who's stronger, both Naruto and Sasuke immediately comply.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her dark blue hair qualifies her for this, especially since it's a unique hair color for the Hyūga clan and Konoha in general.
* TrueSight: The Byakugan is capable of seeing through illusion as well as other visually disabling Jutsu like the Hidden Mist technique.
* TwiceShy: For many years, Hinata was too shy to openly express her deep love for Naruto, causing her to blush and act awkward whenever he was near. In ''The Last'', Naruto reciprocates her feelings once he finally understands how she feels about him and this causes him to get just as shy around her until he confesses he loves her too.
* TheUnchosenOne: While she is TheChosenOne in ''The Last'', she is this to [[TheChosenOne Naruto]] in the main series, being there for him during some of the most important battles of his life, such as against Neji, Pain, and Obito.
* UndyingLoyalty: To her family. This is undisputed in ''The Last'', where despite being incredibly happy upon [[spoiler:Naruto confessing his love to her]], which is something she has been waiting almost her entire life for, she still chooses [[spoiler:to [[BreakHisHeartToSaveHim "reject"]] him and "agree" to marry Toneri so that she could destroy the Tenseigan and [[BigSisterInstinct save her younger sister Hanabi]]]]. Even though [[spoiler:she clearly regrets hurting Naruto, when she wakes up in Toneri's castle, the first thing she does is find Hanabi]], and then she does not once falter in her plan, even though she has to [[XanatosSpeedChess improvise]] later on, [[spoiler:eventually with Naruto's help]].
* TheUnfavourite: Her father resented her for being gentle and shy, preferring her more aggressive younger sister Hanabi as an heiress. They began to repair their relationship after the Chunin Exams arc, and they clearly became on much better terms after he openly applauded her for trying to fight Pain. However, he still didn't consider her good enough to be a leader for the Fourth Shinobi World War, feeling that she wasn't ready yet. Despite that, he still allowed her to participate in the War, and he did not stop her from helping him and Neji protect Naruto during the fight against Obito and Madara.
* UptightLovesWild: Hinata is the shy ProperLady to Naruto's hyperactive IdiotHero.
* UptownGirl: With Naruto. PlayedWith, as she's an heiress of the illustrious and powerful Hyūga clan and the closest Konoha has to a princess after Tsunade left, while he starts off as the village pariah. However, by the time they become an OfficialCouple during ''The Last'', he had already become the hometown hero who had saved the world, along with being revealed as [[spoiler:the son of the Fourth Hokage]]. It's ultimately {{Zig Zagged}} because, despite Naruto's credentials and achievements, Hinata is still a member of the Hyūga clan's main family and she becomes the ''Byakugan Princess'' in ''The Last'', so she's still considered royalty by the time they get together.
* UseYourHead: In the anime-only episode 148, Naruto startles Hinata by appearing upside down in front of her after she opens the door to his hospital room. She gets so flustered that she headbutts him in the face, throwing him across the room and knocking him unconscious.
* VeinOVision: The Byakugan lets the user see the chakra network, the better to strike pressure points therein.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: She stands in front of Pain and bravely fights him in order to protect Naruto.
* VocalEvolution: Her voice has become subsequently deeper as a mother, in contrast to her cute voice back when she was young.
* WaifFu: Her clan's specialty is the "Gentle Fist" technique, which rather than using crippling damage delivers a short, intense burst of energy to block a chakra point, preventing the use of ninja techniques (and potentially the use of limbs, or ''organs''). In the anime, she's also shown the ability to improve the "near perfect defense" technique to a "truly perfect defense", and turns the Gentle Fist into something that would make [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Kenshiro]] start to shed ManlyTears. For the longest time, she did this ''occasionally''. She would have demonstrated her strength more often earlier on, had it not been for her crippling self-esteem issues, which were only sporadically overcome by following Naruto's example. By the [[WarArc Fourth Shinobi World War Arc]], after she becomes assertive and has gained a lot more confidence, she starts actively showing off her strength, especially when she masters the Sixty-Four Palms and combines it with her Twin Lion Fists.
* WartsAndAll: Hinata has admired, acknowledged, and loved Naruto for the way he is since the very beginning. Both [[https://66.media.tumblr.com/666ba3b42bb25fe5b92507cef32effbd/8c21999253787a0e-3c/s500x750/51135a92041505a1b5bad7cf380164c16f612131.png Naruto's flashback]] in Chapter 538 and Creator/MasashiKishimoto in the aforementioned 2015 NYCC interview confirm that she was the very first person to acknowledge Naruto for who he is, ''long'' before Iruka did. ''The Last'' shows that because of this, Hinata loves Naruto just the way he is, rather than the hero that everyone else sees, which is one of the reasons why he marries ''[[OneTrueLove her]]'' in the end. She loved him long before he ever became the hero in the public's eye and she'll love him long after his story fades into legend.
--> '''Naruto:''' [[InsecureLoveInterest This whole time, you always loved me for the way I am.]]
* WellDoneDaughterGirl: She wants to be acknowledged by her father, to the point where her most desired opponent is listed as him. She has managed it. She also counts as a "Well Done, Cousin" Girl since she also wanted Neji's approval, and has achieved it.
* WiseBeyondHerYears: She is the only one who sees Naruto for who he truly is ''long'' before any of the other characters do. She offers Naruto assurance and gives him back his confidence right before he fights Neji. Before that, though, she sees and understands Neji for the troubled and suffering soul he really is, which really sets him off.
* XanatosSpeedChess: Her plan of destroying [[spoiler:the Tenseigan core orb]] in ''The Last'', despite a few setbacks, succeeds through adapting to circumstances, taking advantage of opportunities, and accepting help when offered, [[spoiler:especially from Naruto]].
* XRayVision: The Byakugan allows the user to see into and through their target's clothes, skin, flesh, etc, allowing for better pinpointing of chakra nodes.
* YamatoNadeshiko: She's [[NiceGirl exceptionally kind, polite, and soft-spoken]] to everyone, and she is [[DevotedToYou devoted to Naruto]], whom she later marries. The inner iron, while always present, takes a while to manifest, but when it does...'''[[SilkHidingSteel it does]]''': In the Chunin Exams preliminaries, she correctly guesses Neji's ''actual'' psychological problems and, once she stops fearing him (thanks to Naruto cheering her on), she tells him so to his face, even though she knew he'd surely snap and beat her to death (and he almost did). In the Invasion of Pain arc, she steps out against Pain because of her love for Naruto, even though she knew she would most likely die (and she almost did, which enrages Naruto). Finally, in ''The Last'', she fights off [[BigBad Toneri]] for the sake of [[BigSisterInstinct her younger sister, Hanabi]], [[spoiler:reclaims Hanabi's stolen eyes]], and ''finally'' becomes not only Naruto's girlfriend, but also his BattleCouple partner.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: A turning point in her relationship with Naruto was when she encouraged him when he [[BeneathTheMask revealed his]] [[BoisterousWeakling insecurities to her]] in the Chunin Exams arc and she assured him of his strength by telling him that [[EyesNeverLie she can see in his eyes]] that he is strong. Naruto returns the favor to Hinata three years later during the [[WarArc Fourth Shinobi World War Arc]], when she's hard on herself because he had to save her while she was supposed to be protecting him, and [[ShipTease he echoes what she said to him back then]].
--> '''Hinata:''' (''thinking'') ''The one we're supposed to protect is always protecting us. [[HeroicSelfDeprecation I'm really useless]].''\
'''Naruto:''' Don't let it bother you, Hinata. [[RememberWhenYouBlewUpASun You protected me twice already]]. I can't let you keep doing that. It's not cool!\
'''Hinata:''' I-I wasn't worried or anything...\
'''Naruto:''' [[MeaningfulEcho I can see it in your eyes]]. Don't be so hard on yourself! You are strong!\
'''Hinata:''' (''thinking'') ''Thank you, Naruto-kun.''
* YouAreNotAlone: A part of the foundation of her close friendship and eventual romance with Naruto. She serves as a living reminder of the fact that he is not alone, no matter how bad the situation is or what the overwhelming odds are, and vice-versa.

->''Heh, I don't know what's going on, but I'm always up for getting wild.''

Member of Team 8. Kiba is a wild, untamed ninja from the Inuzuka clan, a family of dog breeders. As such, he's never seen without his loyal pooch, a Great Pyranees named Akamaru. Kiba utilizes him as both a partner and a weapon, and later as a transport.

He treats Hinata like a younger sister, fights with his ultra-serious partner Shino and, after initially mocking him, considers Naruto one of his closest friends.

Kiba fights Naruto in the preliminary rounds of the Chunin Exams, which is one of the latter's first big solo fights in the series. Kiba tries a number of attacks and strategies to beat Naruto, but the kid just won't stay down. Later, Kiba is recruited by Shikamaru for the Sasuke Retrieval team, fights and is nearly killed by Sakon, and is saved by Kankuro.

Among Kiba's abilities is a heightened sense of smell, which makes him especially effective at tracking. He is also one of the fastest seen ninjas. In battle, Kiba can transform Akamaru into a clone of himself, allowing them to use combination attacks such as the tornado-like Fang Over Fang. He can also make himself more bestial in nature, increasing his speed and strength, and can combine with Akamaru to become a two-headed wolf. In Part II, he has developed his sense of smell to the point that it is superior to that of a dog's. When the Fourth Shinobi World War started, he was placed in the Fifth Division along with Shino, his sister Hana, and Ino.

After the events of the war, Kiba's dream of becoming Hokage was never realized, though he does settle down years later with his new love interest, Tamaki, a beautiful girl with a fondness for cats.

->His hobby is taking walks with Akamaru.
->Favorite word: "Akamaru"
----
* AnimalMotifs: Dogs, given his clan's technique, are combining shinobi/kunoichi with their canine partner and his physical characteristics are akin to a canine (vertical slit-like pupils, pronounced canine teeth, and nails that he can change into claws).
* AnimalThemedFightingStyle: The Inuzuka clan's "Four Legs Technique" is based on animal movements and enhances speed and accuracy. It also allows them to change their fingernails to claws.
* TheBeastmaster: The basis of the Inuzuka clan's secret techniques is combining ones prowess with a dog trained in ninjutsu from a young age.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Kiba has become very close to Hinata and acts brotherly toward her, but tends to worry about her, urging her to be strong before the second phase of the exam, and to forfeit rather than face a dangerous opponent.
* BigEater: In the omake of ''Shippuden'' Episode 95 he takes part to a ramen eating contest, and manages to eat 20 bowls of ramen in ''20 minutes'' before fainting.
* BigSisterWorship: Kiba's actions reveal that he is very close to his older sister, Hana Inuzuka.
* BloodKnight: He enjoys combat even when facing particularly strong opponents.
* BoisterousBruiser: To the point of arrogance in his own abilities.
* ABoyAndHisX: A Boy and His Ninja Dog. Being a member of the Inuzuka clan, Kiba was given his own canine partner at a certain age, which would be Akamaru. The two are practically inseparable.
* TheBully: This is what he used to be to Naruto until they became friends.
* CantCatchUp: After losing to Naruto in the Chunin Exams (despite being physically stronger than him), Kiba fell behind Naruto until eventually, the gap between the two of them became so large that Kiba lost any hope of ever surpassing Naruto.
* CaptainOblivious: Due in part to how much time he spends with him, Kiba didn't notice Akamaru's massive growth spurt in Part II until Naruto explicitly pointed it out to him.
* {{Catboy}}: In the [[ItsAWonderfulPlot alternate universe]] of the {{Filler}} movie ''Road To Ninja'' resulting in AnimalJingoism between him and Akamaru.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Yahooo!"
* CombinationAttack: His specialty is doing these with Akamaru.
* CuteLittleFangs: They are similar to canine fangs.
* DarkIsNotEvil: During Part II, each piece of his outfit, including his forehead protector, switched to a black colour.
* DeliberateInjuryGambit: Forced Ukon to stop [[FusionDance melding with him]] by stabbing himself in the gut, causing pain to Ukon as well and forcing him to back off.
-->'''Kiba:''' Let's die together.
* {{Determinator}}: This guy is just as stubborn as Naruto.
* DisappearedDad: He once commented that his dad ran away because he was scared of his wife. May or may not have been joking...
* ExoticEyeDesigns: [[AnimalEyes Dog-like pupils]], befitting his overall nature.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: When Sakon finally tracked him down and had him dead to rights, all Kiba could do was sit there with a solemn smirk and wait for the finishing blow. Thankfully, [[BigDamnHeroes he was saved by Kankuro in the nick of time.]]
* FacialMarkings: Two red triangles on the cheeks in ''Anime/PrincessMononoke'' fashion, like all members of the Inuzuka clan.
* FemaleFelineMaleMutt: In the epilogue, his significant other is a [[spoiler:KindheartedCatLover Tamaki (Nekobaa's granddaughter)]].
* FoodPills: Before Part II, Kiba and Akamaru had to rely on the use of chakra-boosting Food Pills to efficiently use their ninjutsu.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Mostly towards dogs, such as, when he [[spoiler:was in his Infinite Tsukuyomi]], Kiba dreamed he was Hokage and also desired to have a national holiday for all dogs.
* FusionDance: With Akamaru to turn into a [[CanisMajor giant]] [[MultipleHeadCase two headed dog]], His ultimate technique is to combine this technique with a [[MesACrowd Shadow Clone]] to turn into a Cerberus style HellHound with a powerful RollingAttack.
* GlorySeeker: Declares that he will be named Hokage after kicking so much ass in the war. This earns him a strong rebuke from his sister to take war more seriously.
--> '''Kiba:''' If I kick enough asses, I might even end up Hokage!
* HeadPet: Akamaru in Part I was small enough to ride on Kiba's head.
* HellBentForLeather: He changes his look in Part II to include this look.
* HeroesLoveDogs: Kiba's main partner is ninja dog Akamaru.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: His keen sense of smell turns into quite the horrible experience when Naruto (accidentally) [[ToiletHumor farts]] in his face.
* HonoraryUncle: To Naruto and Hinata's daughter, Himawari.
* HorseOfADifferentColor: Kiba can ride on Akamaru in Part II.
* HotBlooded: Kiba is short tempered and arrogant, although not in a malicious way.
* IdiotHero: Kiba is thick-headed, and ''Akamaru'' is more rational than him.
* JerkJock: Was like this during his earlier years prior to the story, who continuously harassed Naruto. Not does he, like many other examples of the trope, gets the receiving end of [[ButtMonkey humiliation]], but he learns humility from his defeats.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's brash, arrogant, and HotBlooded. Kiba also cares for his teammates, has a deep bond with Akamaru, acts as a big brother to Hinata, and is a good guy at heart. The "Jerk" part was also more prominent before Naruto defeated him.
* KickTheDog: In his battle with Naruto, he scoffs at Naruto's dream of being Hokage.
-->"You? Hokage? You can't even beat me! No-one's deluded enough to think that you have what it takes to become the next Hokage, not even you! Tell you what, though… I'll become Hokage in your place!"
* TheLeader: Headstrong internally. He has ambitions of going all the way up to Hokage too that no one takes seriously since he's constantly OutOfFocus and doesn't have as much going for him as anyone on Team 7. Among ShrinkingViolet Hinata and TheStoic Shino, loudmouth Kiba is the one that takes charge of Team 8.
* LineageComesFromTheFather: Inverted. Kiba takes after his mother Tsume, in both his clan name and fighting style.
* LeeroyJenkins: Kiba's main fighting strategy. Even when other characters warn him about charging ahead he still can't help himself.
* LightningBruiser: Very strong and very fast. His only problem is his [[IdiotHero Naruto]]-like behavior.
* LittleBitBeastly: He has claws, fangs and eyes like a dogs.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Kiba with [[spoiler:Tamaki]] in "''The Beast that was Shot by Love!!''" manga omake. Akamaru, however, disapproves.
* MeaningfulName: Kiba means "fang" and Inuzuka literally means "hill of dogs".
* MessyHair: Kiba has messy, brown hair.
* MrFanservice: Much less than Kakashi or Sasuke, but he still has a dedicated female fandom.
* TheNoseKnows: His most useful ability. Of course, Naruto [[{{Fartillery}} has used it against him]] at least twice.
* OfficialCouple: With [[spoiler:Tamaki]].
* OppositesAttract: Kiba, a dog lover, is in a relationship with [[spoiler:Tamaki]], a cat lover.
* OnlySaneMan: With Shikamaru in regards to Sasuke's announcement of wanting to become Hokage.
* PapaWolf: Kiba -- Never ''ever'' threaten Akamaru if you know what's good for you.
* ThePatriarch: Akamaru by the epilogue; he is a dog after all.
* PetTheDog: Warning Hinata to forfeit if matched up against Neji or Gaara - the former due to his hatred for Hinata; the latter them having seen kill three ninjas without remorse; and both of them being much stronger than Hinata.
* PrimalStance: His Four Legs Technique which gives him beast like agility and the ability to move his hands and feet like a dog.
* RealMenEatMeat: Kiba's favorite foods are beef jerky and cartilage.
* RunningOnAllFours: He usually will do this performing one of his jutsus.
* RedIsHeroic: He has red FacialMarkings that resemble fangs.
* RedOniBlueOni: He's the brash and outspoken Red to TheStoic Shino's Blue.
* RollingAttack: Kiba's ultimate technique the Tail Chasing Rotating Fang is a Sonic the Hedgehog-esque buzzsaw technique executed in the form of a gigantic three-headed HellHound.
* ShipperOnDeck: He seems to approve of Hinata's attraction to Naruto and even considers it to be mutual; when the entire Alliance arrives to back up Naruto, Bee, Kakashi, and Guy in Chapter 611, Kiba cheerfully ribs Naruto about [[InsecureLoveInterest "acting tough" in Hinata's presence to look cool in front of her]]. He's probably one of the first people to notice Hinata's feelings for Naruto, giving a few contemplative glances to this effect during the Chunin Exams arc.
* ShoutOut: To ''Anime/PrincessMononoke''. He borrows many elements from San: his facial marking, his feral attitude, strong bond with canines, complete with wolf/dog riding. Adult!Akamaru even looks like ''Mononoke Hime'''s twin young wolves.
* SpectacularSpinning: His signature technique, Fang Over Fang, and his ultimate jutsu, Wolf Fang Over Fang, involve transforming Akamaru into a clone of himself (or the fusion that turns them into a two-headed hellhound), and launching themselves at their target at breakneck speeds like a pair of razor-sharp tornadoes.
* SuperSenses: Like the rest of his clan, Kiba has razor-sharp smelling skills.
* ThisIsADrill: Tunneling Fang (Tsūga), [[CombinationAttack Fang Over Fang]] (Gatsūga) and Wolf Fang Over Fang (Garōga) are taijutsu techniques which involve rapidly spinning and drilling into the enemy with their claws.
* TookALevelInBadass: As a member of the Inuzuka clan, Kiba possesses enhanced canine-related human skills, his most powerful being his sense of smell. By concentrating his chakra in his nose, Kiba can make his sense of smell a thousand times more sensitive than average, making it easy for him to distinguish people by their scent, as seen during his fight against Naruto. In Part II, Kiba stated that his sense of smell was stronger than that of a ninja hound — a feat that impressed Kakashi after he located Sasuke, noting that the Inuzuka clan must be proud of him.
* TookALevelInKindness: Losing to Naruto forced Kiba to gain a sense of humility. He's still kind of a {{Jerkass}}, but he has learned not to mock his opponents.
* UnknownRival: To Naruto. He still can't believe he CantCatchUp to the dead last in his graduating class. Naruto, of course, has no clue about this.
* WolverineClaws: Kiba's taijutsu style revolves around the use of his claws which are extended with ninjutsu.

->''Even if it's been a while, you should remember your comrades' faces. Why? Because otherwise you will hurt their feelings when they call out to you.''

Member of Team 8. Stoic and serious but well-meaning, Shino is also host to a large colony of chakra-eating insects lurking in his body, as is traditional in his clan. He commands these bugs in combat, in ways ranging from cool to creepy, and everything in between. He shows almost no emotion and hardly ever smiles; this, coupled with his insects, makes him an enigma among other shinobi, and some are visibly creeped out by him.

He was a member of the Fifth Division of the Shinobi Alliance with his fellow Team 8 member Kiba. Years after the Fourth Shinobi World War comes to an end, Shino becomes a new instructor at the Ninja Academy and goes on to teach the new generation of ninjas, similar to Iruka.

->His hobbies are Entomology, and collecting new specimens for his insect collection.
->Favorite phrase: "trump card"
----
* TheAce: It's downplayed, but like Might Guy, Shino ''never'' loses a fight outside of filler in the original series.
* AdaptiveAbility: A very realistic take at that: in the anime, he created a new breed of kikaichu to fight Guren's Crystal Release, by breeding the offsprings of a female that just barely survived the first contact with it, which is very similar to how insects become resistant to pesticides over time in Real Life.
* AnimalMotifs: Like his clan, Shino uses the bugs that dwell within his body as weapons.
* AntiHero: Probably the best example of the Konoha 12, not counting [[FaceHeelTurn Sasuke]].
* BadassArmFold: At least once, though his [[PestController fighting style]] probably allows him to pull this off on other occasions.
* BadassBookworm: Like Shikamaru, Shino prevails in battles by systematically staying several steps ahead of the enemy, as well as keeping a good distance away to avoid his enemies' attacks.
* BadassLongcoat: Even justified since the coat helps hide the bugs he's not currently keeping in his body.
* BadassTeacher: Becomes an Academy instructor in the epilogue.
* BeetleManiac: His entire arsenal is composed of terrifying beetles.
* BigEater: As shown in the omake to ''Shippuden'' Episode 95, where he took part to a ramen eating contest and managed to eat 18 bowls in ''10 minutes'' before fainting. {{Justified|Trope}} because he eats for his bugs too.
* ButtMonkey: In the ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'' anime, he's an academy teacher. But he's barely respected by his students and he struggles with the lack of recognition from them. He even consulted with his retired sensei Kurenai, who told him that everyone knows he isn't good at teaching, but that he should continue and do it as he sees fit. This gets downplayed during and after graduation, with his former students generally treating him with respect and appreciation.
* CombatPragmatist: Very ruthless and creative with his bugs during combat. During his fight with Zaku in the Chunin Exams, he offhandedly mentioned that he stuffed Zaku's arm tubes with bugs before the fight even began.
* TheComicallySerious: Most of the humor around Shino comes from his complete deadpan monotone and serious personality.
* CoolShades: And by extension SunglassesAtNight. After the time skip, they look more like [[GogglesDoNothing goggles]]. His glasses evolve, just like his bugs. First, they were SinisterShades, then they were [[GogglesDoNothing Goggles]], after that TriangleShades, and finally they ended up as a Cyberpunk OneWayVisor.
* CreepyGood: Everyone, including his teacher Kurenai, is visibly spooked and creeped out by his powers. Despite this, Shino is a firmly heroic person, and regularly helps his friends in spite of the potentially ruthless nature he displays.
* CreepyMonotone: He always speaks in one, even to a comical degree.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Shino control bugs, that are colored black, and he's a CreepyGood hero.
%%* DeadpanSnarker: Often to Kiba.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Shino appears to be one of the few canonically-labeled "geniuses" who doesn't get a legion of in-series fans. In fact, many of his friends (Naruto, Kiba, Torune, etc.) seem to go out of their way to point out his faults.
* EatenAlive: Shino's ultimate technique is to insert flesh-eating insects inside his opponent's body where they devour their flesh and chakra from the inside and grow to enormous size.
* EnergyAbsorption: His destruction beetles.
* FluffyTamer: His idea of heaven involves finding and riding a terrifying insect monster.
* FriendToAllChildren: A filler episode has Shino talking to Academy students on being a ninja. He would go on to [[spoiler:become the Academy instructor]].
* FriendToBugs: He has names for every one of them.
* GagPenis: Naruto starts screaming about gigantic larvae sitting on his lap in the bathhouse. It's not a larva.
* GenerationXerox: Greatly resembles his father in both looks and dress.
* GoodIsNotNice: Shino is pragmatic sometimes to the point of cruelty and devised a plan that killed another team from his own village (in the manga) to get a scroll in the Chunin Exams. He's still firmly a good guy despite this, but he's easily the most ruthless Ninja of not just his team, but the Konoha 12.
* GuileHero: Due to his brutally pragmatic and underhanded approach to almost anything. His first fight was over before it started due to him filling his opponent's arm tubes with bugs before the match even began.
* HeroicBSOD: Shino has one in ''Konoha Hiden'' when he becomes convinced that the rest of Team 8 is moving on without him. The thought of being left behind scares him so much that he considers becoming TheHermit to avoid rejection.
* HeroicHost: To a colony of LifeEnergy eating beetles.
* InTheHood: In Part II he adds a hooded coat to his wardrobe until the epilogue.
* TheInfested: The Aburame Clan are infested at birth with Kikaichu, a colony of insects that feed off one's chakra. They live off eachother symbiotically, with the Aburame's providing chakra for the Kikaichu to feast on, while the Kikaichu will follow their commands.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Shino is ruthless in combat and isn't really an open person, but he values his teammates, and has shown to be quite brave.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: With just a tap, he can put bugs inside you to eat you from the inside out and they ''grow'' in size depending on how much chakra is given!
* NoMouth: His mouth is almost always concealed by Part 1 and Part 2. but at the fourth Shinobi war, Epilogue and the Boruto series his mouth is exposed.
* NotSoStoic:
** He gets quite upset (although he doesn't show it much) when people ignore him, fail to recognize him or leave him out of things.
** And his inability to let go of the fact that he was left out on the Sasuke Retrieval Mission that still haunts him every day for the next four years and counting.
** In the anime fillers, he's shown to be visibly (but understandably) freaked out by anteaters and insectivorous plants.
** PlayedWith in one filler arc where Shino is infected with a poison that makes him laugh uncontrollably while on a mission. He threatens to kill Naruto if he tells anyone about it.
** The reason for his large eyewear in Boruto? He cries too often because his students disparage the trading card that's based on him because it is common and weak.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: During the "Laughing Shino" episode, when he eats a poison that forces him to laugh uncontrollably, Naruto immediately realizes that just the fact that Shino is ''laughing'' means that something is wrong with the food.
* PestController: Shino's ninjutsu revolves around controlling LifeEnergy eating beetles that use his body as a hive.
* TheQuietOne: He is notably quite quiet and for this reason let Kiba lead the team during the Chunin Exams.
* RedOniBlueOni: He's TheStoic Blue to Kiba's brash and outspoken Red.
* RunningGag:
** That he is never recognized because his entire body is covered. Also his endless pouting over being left out of of the mission to retrieve Sasuke, and subsequent insistence that the mission was a failure because he did not come along.
** To a lesser degree, his bugs tend to be eaten when he uses them.
* SecurityBlanket: Shino admits that his hood and jacket function as such in Konoha Hiden. He won't take them off even when his suspicious appearance jeopardizes the mission.
* ShipperOnDeck: In ''Shippuden'' Episode 279, Shino refers to [[EveryoneCanSeeIt Hinata's feelings for Naruto]] as the most crucial secret of the Allied Forces, much to her embarrassment.
* SpecsOfAwesome: Wear oval, black sunglasses and has proven to be a promising ninja.
* TheSpock: Shino is the most stoic and strategically ruthless of Team 8.
* TheStoic: Shino is almost always completely unflappable.
* TheStrategist:
** It didn't take him much time to work out how to completely cripple Zaku and Kankuro during their fights.
** He's also pretty CrazyPrepared. In the anime, he defeats Torune, who is perhaps the strongest Aburame by bringing a new breed of insects that he cultivated with Torune's bugs from a long time ago. This new breed of insects has developed antibodies resistant to Torune's bugs. He did this before having had any reason to expect Torune to ever become an enemy.
* SuperSenses: Shino can tell the number of people in an area by putting his ear to the ground.
* TheSymbiote: He has a mutually beneficial relationship with the insect colony living inside his body.
* SynchronizedSwarming: He can do this with his insects to relay messages or set out battle formations.
* TheTeetotaler: Boruto reveals that he doesn't drink, which turns out to be justified when Hanabi causes him to accidentally drink sake. The result, his bugs get drunk too and cause mass devastation.
* VerbalTic: Shino has an interesting way of speaking. What is it? He likes to explain things after posing a rhetorical question that would normally be left unspoken. For example:
-->'''Shino:''' You use puppets, so you're a mid- to long-range type. It looks like you're weak at close combat. Why you ask? Because you must concentrate on operating your puppet. So it seems that the Puppet Technique… can easily create a chink in the user's own defense…
* WakeUpCallBoss: In ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'', he is the first jonin-level ninja to be possessed by the dark aura. While the previous victims (Academy students and civilians) were relatively easily subdued, it takes the greater part of an entire episode to bring him down, and Boruto and co. only succeed because Shino was subconsciously holding back, it being noted that if he was genuinely trying to kill them he probably would have.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes:
** In the fillers, it's revealed he (understandably) hates insectivorous plants and animals like anteaters.
** In the [[ItsAWonderfulPlot alternate universe]] of the {{Filler}} movie ''Road To Ninja'' he's afraid of bugs.
* WillfullyWeak: It's heavily implied that if he wanted to, Shino could easily kill many of the foes he fights by using deadlier bugs, as many of the more commonly used bugs he uses are more designed for immobilizing or non-lethally preventing his foe from fighting. In the rare situations where we see him fighting to kill, he effortlessly kills his foe with no issue. It's very telling that, when Shino accidentally goes on a drunken rampage, the ''Hokage'' had to be summoned to subdue him.
* TheWormThatWalks: While not ''made'' of bugs, he houses swarms of energy-draining beetles in his body. They've been with him since shortly after his birth, perhaps even more disturbing than simply being composed of the insects--in short, he is basically a human hive. The "Bug Clone" technique, in which the user creates a clone of himself out of those beetles, is more true to this trope.

->''Fool. Anko asked me to buy her some dango.''

Leader of Team 8.

Kurenai is... well, a kunoichi, who has only recently become a jonin by the start of the series. We don't really learn that much about her in Part I, save that she's a rather cool and demure lady who took Hinata under her wing, skilled in genjutsu, and that she's perhaps involved with Asuma. The vast majority of her team's missions seem to not involve her. Her only plot-involved action was to get knocked around by Itachi Uchiha in a short battle unless you count some of the {{filler}} episodes.

In Part II, she appears after the death of Asuma, where we learn that she's carrying his child. She makes sparse appearances afterward, though she still thinks highly of her former students, especially Hinata. Kurenai is last seen in the epilogue with her daughter, Mirai, who goes on to become as talented as her father.

->Her hobby is having evening drinks.
->Favorite phrase: "Glory like a violet blooming a single day"
----
* BreakHisHeartToSaveHim: She uses this tactic twice during the Kurama Clan arc - once on Yakumo and once on her team. Needless to say, it backfires both times.
* CherryBlossoms: Used in some of her genjutsu techniques.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Asuma -- They were teammates in their childhood, entered a romantic relationship as adults, and have a child together.
* CoolBigSis: To both her team and Shikamaru now.
* ADayInTheLimelight: The Yakumo Kurama Rescue Mission Filler Arc focuses on her.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: Seems to have two sets of irises, with the outer irises being red while the inner ones are darker red. Despite MagicalEyes being commonplace in the franchise and Kurenai's own eyes resembling a palette swap of the [[StoryBreakerPower Rinnegan]], this is purely cosmetic.
* FamilyVersusCareer: Justified. Her occupation as a kunoichi is highly hazardous by definition and, since her daughter is already fatherless, continuing her ninja work while her daughter is still very young would be a mistake.
* FlowerMotifs: Associated with red poppies, especially in the anime.
* GoodParents: Since becoming a widowed mother, Kurenai proved very capable, raising Mirai to be very cheerful and responsible.
* HerHeartWillGoOn: Kurenai was devastated by Asuma's death, but moved on for the sake of their child.
* IWantGrandkids: Her father pretty much said this to her when the Nine-Tails attacked the village and the other children where sheltered and barred from fighting.
* LadyOfWar: Kurenai was able to put up a good fight against Itachi and Kisame with her genjutsu in Part I.
* MasterOfIllusion: She's a genjutsu specialist. Her illusion is typically themed around [[GreenThumb plant life]].
* NiceGirl: Kurenai is a caring and brave woman. She shows great care and concern towards her students and takes a vested interest in their growth, especially in regards to Hinata due to knowing full well how Hinata was viewed by her father. Her personality is unyielding, honest, and simple. She is also portrayed as the "big sister type".
* OutOfFocus: Well, her team in particular (except for [[AscendedExtra Hinata]]), she has never been seen together with the said team since Part II started. She seems to have defected to Team 10 given the number of times she has appeared with Shikamaru.
* ParentalSubstitute: Served as one to Hinata after Hinata's father [[TheUnfavorite all but disowned her as his heiress]].
* RavenHairIvorySkin: Kurenai is a fair-skinned woman of slender build and has long black untamed hair reaching her upper back.
* SatelliteCharacter: Her entire character is centered around her relationship with Asuma, though she is seen interacting with her team a lot more in Part I.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: She and Asuma once or twice denied being a couple, but her pregnancy made the truth obvious.
* ShipperOnDeck: Kurenai notices Hinata's crush on Naruto in the Chunin Exams preliminaries and convinces the blond to take the offered medicine.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Kurenai developed a romantic relationship with FormerTeenRebel Asuma, who now acts as responsible TeamDad to his students.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female among the four main Jonin-senseis.
* SomeoneToRememberHimBy: She got pregnant, not long before Asuma bites the dust.
* TeamMom: Kurenai acts as a motherly figure to her squad, especially to Hinata.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: During Naruto and Kiba's fight in the Chunin Exams, Kurenai was firmly convinced that Naruto didn't stand a chance at beating Kiba, only to be shocked when he did just that. Nevertheless, she [[GracefulLoser takes it in stride]] and acknowledges Naruto as a WorthyOpponent.
* TheWatson: Regarding Ibiki, a trait associated with her being a new Jonin.

Akamaru is Kiba Inuzuka's dog. As with dogs of other members of the Inuzuka Clan, Akamaru is much more than a simple pet, being Kiba's close partner. He accompanies Kiba wherever he goes and assists him in performing techniques.
----
* BabiesEverAfter: The epilogue shows that [[spoiler:he has a litter of pups]].
* BeastOfBattle: Kiba fights alongside him.
* BigFriendlyDog: His appearance is similar to multiple large livestock guardian dogs (the Great Pyrenees chief among them, along with the Maremma, the Cuvac, and the Kuvasz) and he undergoes explosive time skip growth, matching the transition from puppyhood to adulthood.
* CanineCompanion: To Kiba.
* CanisMajor: Akamaru gets a ''lot'' bigger in Part II.
* CombinationAttack: Part of the reason he always tags along with Kiba is so they can do this.
* FoodPills: Before Part II, Kiba and Akamaru had to rely on the use of chakra-boosting Food Pills to efficiently use their ninjutsu.
* FusionDance: He can fuse with Kiba into a [[CanisMajor giant]] [[MultipleHeadCase two headed dog]].
* HeadPet: In Part I, he is small enough to ride on Kiba's head.
* HeroicDog: Known for protecting cats and kids all around Konoha from mean dogs, often as Kiba translates: 'Pick on someone your own size!'
* HorseOfADifferentColor: Kiba rides on Akamaru in Part II.
* IntelligibleUnintelligible: Kiba apparently can understand what he says.
* LongLived: [[spoiler:By dog standards, Akamaru is ''incredibly'' long-lived, as he is still alive in the epilogue, where he is around 23 years old. Though by that time, he looks pretty old and is likely retired.]]
* NearlyNormalAnimal: Unlike Kakashi's ninken, Akamaru does not speak human language and acts mostly like a normal dog, albeit with heightened intelligence.
* OldDog: [[spoiler:In the epilogue.]]
* ThePatriarch: [[spoiler:By the epilogue, he is father to a litter of pups and also watches over Tamaki's cats and kittens.]]
* SatelliteCharacter: He doesn't get much of a character, except for being Kiba's partner and best friend.
* UrineTrouble: He can mark an enemy with his urine making them easy to pinpoint.
* WeaponizedAnimal: He has a skill that creates a copy of him that is actually a grenade.
