[[caption-width-right:350:''"When demon girls are involved, no price is high enough."'']]

A sharply-dressed guy with a talent for making gourmet desserts, who ventures into [[FireAndBrimstoneHell Hell]] in order to create a harem for himself.
----
* NinetiesAntiHero: According to WordOfGod, his appearance was based on this character archetype.[[invoked]] Downplayed, though, as despite hanging out with demons, the Helltaker's morality doesn't seem to be anything worse than the average person. In fact, he tends to discourage the more aggressive personality traits of the demon girls.
* AggressiveSubmissive: Despite him taking the initiative to seek out a harem of demon girls, half the choices to most of girls are very blatant masochistic comments. He is also shown to be very grumpy with the girls, complaining about their antics before being dragged into doing what they want... not unlike a henpecked husband.
* AmazonChaser: All the demon girls are fully capable of killing him, yet the fact that he still goes after them means he definitely qualifies for this trope.
* AmbiguousSituation: At the end, it's not really clear if the Helltaker actually created a real harem of demon girls, or if he just ended up with a bunch of rowdy demonic roommates. Either way, the guy seems to be happy with the result.
* AntiHero: The protagonist is motivated solely by the fact that a harem of demon women sounded like a cool idea.
* BadassInANiceSuit: A SharpDressedMan who dives into hell to pick up chicks on a whim.
* BadassNormal: There's not much indication that he has any supernatural powers, yet he still somehow got into ''Hell'' so he'd obtain a harem of demon girls.
* CasanovaWannabe: His dream is to build a harem full of demon girls and he uses some lines to convince them that sound a lot like cheap pick-up lines.
* ChickMagnet: He's gotten the notice of Modeus, Lucifer, and Beelzebub.
* CoveredWithScars: The Pancake Recipe Comic shows him with various scars around his body, most of them probably gained from the girls.
* TheDeterminator: The Helltaker is one and by extension, the player. In-universe, the Helltaker can only survive in hell through sheer willpower alone, and out of it, you will have to constantly endure brutal puzzles that have one solution, ''very'' precise numbers of moves available, and likely many, many, many deaths before you get it right.
* DidNotGetTheGirl: Basically none of the girls seem to actually see him as a substantial romantic partner other than potentially Modeus, given her blushing at the idea of a date with him, and her being only one hugging him in the normal ending slide, whereas Beelzebub is the only one confirmed to have at least ''some'' amount of feelings and interest in him, but that's only in the timeline where he willingly traps himself in the Abyss with her, making him lose out on his original harem. The others, in the end, just become loud and rowdy roommates rather than a harem devoted to him, with Azazel even being implied to only be interested in the demon girls. However, he takes it in stride, being happy to have made friends. All comics so far seem to support him not really being in a relationship with any of the girls, and being happy nonetheless. The guy must have been lonely to make do with the company he keeps. All that said, the ending of the ''Examtaker'' DLC indicates that Lucifer does hold some feelings and still misses him, even many ''many'' years after he went missing in the Abyss timeline.
** Subverted in one of the [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1541783672252145665 latest comics]]. Given what Azazel, Modeus and Pandemonica were doing to him, it's safe to say there's no chastity involved when it comes to the three of them. Add to that the romance aspects with Lucifer and the aforementioned Modeus and we can definitely say he ''did'' get at least a few girls, even though he doesn't seem exactly... ''enthusiastic'' in the comic in question.
* DoubleEntendre: About half his lines of dialogue with the demon girls can easily be interpreted as cheap pickup lines. Amusingly, all of the girls in question take the more innocuous meaning (e.g., Malina interpreting "I'd sure love to play with you" as a desire to play video games).
* {{Expy}}:
** With his heavy, muscled build, sunglasses and his womanizing tendencies, it's easy to see some WesternAnimation/JohnnyBravo influence on the Helltaker's design. His attire and ultimate goal can also bring to mind [[VideoGame/LeisureSuitLarry Larry Laffer]].
** He is also one to [[Franchise/{{Doom}} The Doomguy/Doomslayer]], a character well known for fearlessly taking on the forces of Hell singlehandedly. The title ''Helltaker'' could also be seen as a synonym of Doomslayer.
* HaremSeeker: The main character's entire goal is to get himself a harem full of cute demon girls.
* HeroicWillpower: As analyzed by Pandemonica should you call her for advice, it takes willpower for the Helltaker to traverse Hell like he does. Also, it makes him endure damage of the spikes, who are stated only to decrease his will.
* InstantExpert: [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1454450870498770951 When Modeus has him play]] ''VisualNovel/MonsterProm'' with her following her becoming a GuestFighter for ''Monster Camp'', he immediately succeeds at romancing a girl despite never playing a dating sim before, whereas Modeus repeatedly fails to snag one guy despite playing for a while. Granted, the girl he chose to romance was a demon, a species he's had plenty of experience at wooing, so it's not too hard to believe.
* MadeOfIron: In the Epilogue and Pancake Recipe Comic, he suffers grievous injuries like stab wounds and getting his fingers broken, but he still marches on. That said, the Pandemonica/Azazel comic mentions him being in the hospital, so while he's still quite durable thanks to his sheer will, it's {{downplayed|Trope}} in that he has his limits.
* MoralityChain: In a similar capacity to Judgment, he does what he can to reign in the girls' antics when they're going too far as he comes across them, shown best with Cerberus - and in the [[AlternateTimeline post-Abysstaker timeline]] all of them are shown to be acting out a lot more in his absence.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: He's very buff and muscular, and can quickly dispose of the Undead {{Mooks}}, but any of the slender and lean demon girls are perfectly capable of killing him in a variety of ways. It helps that said girls have immense magical powers.
* NiceGuy: Despite his flirtations, Helltaker is a very patient person who's willing to accommodate multiple rowdy violent demons without asking for anything in return or regardless of the fact that they aren't doing much beyond taking up space in his house.
* NoNameGiven: The protagonist is never actually named, though he's referred to as the Helltaker in the epilogue.
* TheOneGuy: He's the only character with a Y-Chromosome in the entire game. Insofar as you want to address the skeleton soldiers, who may not even have an applicable gender despite their masculine appearance.
* OutOfFocus: Despite being the main character of the story, most of the comics posted starting near the end of 2020 have completely left him out, not showing up in even a single panel. Though this case is fully justified due to them taking place during the timeline where he's trapped in the Abyss with Beelzebub, so his lessened focus is understandable.
* ProtagonistTitle: The name of the game refers to the title he gains at the end of the main story, where he became a "taker of Hell" by turning the greatest and most dangerous demons in all of Hell into his personal harem, before "taking" them ''out'' of Hell. Even when he's not directly involved with either several of the comics or the ''Examtaker'' DLC, his actions from the main game are the cause behind everything else that happens in the story, justifying the continued use of "Helltaker" to reference them.
* RealMenWearPink: The Helltaker might be a 90's anti-hero lookalike, but he's able to whip up a mean crepe.
* SeenItAll: [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1297881484272050178 In one of the comics,]] he's completely unfazed by some sort of disaster happening outside of his house involving what looks like a battle between [[TabletopGame/Warhammer40000 Space Marines]] and [[NinjaZombiePirateRobot communist cats in tanks]], and casually mentions zombie plagues and alien invasions.
* SharpDressedMan: As shown in the prologue, he puts on a cool white suit before heading to hell to build his harem. Given the creator's affinity for fancy suits, it's probably the Helltaker's usual style rather than him dressing to impress the girls.
* SunglassesAtNight: The protagonist and Justice, the Awesome Demon, both wear sunglasses despite hell being dark and enclosed. {{Lampshade|hanging}}d in the epilogue where Justice says she wears them because she's blind, but the other demons have a betting pool about why the Helltaker wears his. She bet ten dollars he has [[EyeBeams laser vision]].
* SupremeChef: One of his biggest traits is his status as an excellent cook, with his most famous dish being his chocolate pancakes. Downplayed in that apparently his coffee is nothing special, since it takes him a few weeks to make it well enough so Pandemonica doesn't break his fingers.
* TooKinkyToTorture: Some of his dialogue options, and the fact that he still keeps his destructive harem several weeks after the game, implying that he may have a masochistic streak.
* UncertainDoom: ''Examtaker'' is strongly implied to take place far enough in the future that a regular adult human during the main story would've died long ago, but the story leaves it vaguely uncertain if the Helltaker is dead, as it takes place in the Abysstaker timeline and the story heavily implies that time doesn't flow in the Abyss, so there's the possibility he could still be alive in there.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: All he wanted was to create a harem of demon girls, and decided that having an angel girl among them would do nicely too, but he never planned far enough to consider the potential consequences of what might happen to Azazel due to being surrounded by demonic influence. He also didn't consider what might happen if he trapped himself in the Abyss with Beelzebub in the "Abysstaker" timeline, leaving the demon girls to run amok on Earth with only Judgement to reign them in, as him no longer being their MoralityChain meant that the demons, especially Lucifer, were free to influence Azazel into becoming a FallenAngel. Absolutely nobody could've imagined she'd become such a powerful demon that she eventually conquered Hell and turned it into her personal playground for expanding demonic research, which was only possible due to the Helltaker's random but simple quest to fulfill an odd desire.
* WorthIt: The Helltaker gets his demon girl harem at the end of the game, but because they're demons they regularly torment him with both physical and verbal abuse. While he is clearly stressed out by their behaviour the narrator notes that living a life without suffering isn't worthwhile if you can't enjoy yourself as well. The normal ending artwork suggests that Helltaker views it this way too since he's clearly happy with his company.

!!The Harem
[[folder:In General]]
* AffablyEvil: Despite being demons, most of the girls are pretty easy to get along with. Most of them will still kill you if you say the wrong thing though.
* BadassInANiceSuit: As stated in its premise, this game isn't merely about demons, but ''sharply-dressed'' demons, each of whom can effortlessly kill the protagonist in their own bad endings. Even the most casual of the harem still wear buttoned shirts and fitted pants. The only exception is [[FinalBoss Judgement]], who wears shorts and a cleavage-baring top.
* ChastityCouple: Although all of the girls do agree to join the Helltaker's harem, most of them seem to have this kind of relationship with him. After moving into his house in the epilogue, the majority of them act more like loud and rowdy roommates than devoted lovers. Granted, at the end of the game they all do seem to have developed a genuine fondness for the Helltaker.
* CuteMonsterGirl: All of the demons are fairly attractive women with horns, with the exception of Cerberus, who is instead one soul inhabiting a trio of LittleBitBeastly bodies with dog ears and tails, and Beelzebub, a massive fly-like AnimalisticAbomination [[AFormYouAreComfortableWith until the secret ending]].
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite being demons with a [[RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver red and black]] color scheme that view murder and mutilation as a casual potential solution to problems, several of the characters don't really seem all that evil. Even [[FinalBoss Judgement]], the only actively antagonistic one, is really just doing her job by punishing you for your sins and can easily be talked into postponing that punishment if she likes you.
* FallenAngel: Several of them are this, with Lucifer and Judgement almost casually confirmed as such by Justice in a comic (who noticeably ''doesn't'' refer to herself as one despite her more moral standing among the demons, and the fact that she seems to believe Azazel's delusion that falling isn't real implies she never was an angel) while Azazel is slowly falling into this and completes her fall in the timeline that leads to ''Examtaker''. It's ambiguous if any others are too or are "natural" demons.
* HornedHumanoid: Every demon except Cerberus. Among them, all have black horns with the exception of Lucifer and Beelzebub, who have white horns instead. According to bonus material, demon horns gradually turn white as they age, but it would take a very long time for them to turn completely white. This implies that the two of them have been alive for a very long time.
* HumanoidAbomination: All of the demons look like white-haired human-like girls with tails and horns (or dog ears in Cerberus' case), with the sole exception of Beelzebub who is an AnimalisticAbomination and even then she can take on a more humanlike form as well. Based on the prequel comics involving Malina and Lucifer mentioning her only having limited shapeshifting (where she still retains her humanoid shape), these are also their true forms, again with the exception of Beelzebub who appears to be the only one with proper {{shapeshifting}} powers, though only used for becoming AFormYouAreComfortableWith.
* LadyInAPowerSuit: While they're all literally powerful demons, the suits a number of them are wearing further gives them an air of strong, professional authority, especially Lucifer. It gets subverted [[DefrostingIceQueen the closer the Helltaker gets to them though.]]
* MysticalWhiteHair: All of the demons have white hair. The fact Azazel's hair starts to turn gray as a result of her gradually becoming a FallenAngel implies white hair is an inherently demonic attribute. The events of the ''Examtaker'' DLC later confirm this, as Azazel finally has fallen from grace and become a demon, with her hair turning white to go along with it.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: All of the demon girls have color schemes that consist primarily of red and black, with a few of them also using white. Noticeably, all of them use black as the major color of their suits with red as the secondary with the exception of Beelzebub, who instead inverts the color relationship with most of her clothing being red with black underneath.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Most of the demons have blood-red eyes, Justice and Judgement being the exceptions, and almost all of the demons with them are incredibly dangerous, being one step away from violently murdering you if you give them an excuse to. The sole exception to this is Beelzebub, who despite her also having red eyes in both fly and human form, poses no risks of harming you, mainly because either she's normally unable to physically interact with you in the first place, or you're the only other person trapped with her in the void and it was lonely there.
* SharpDressedWoman: The only main character that isn't rocking businesswear is Judgement, and even then the latter is still wearing an ([[{{Stripperiffic}} extremely cropped]]) blazer.
* SweetTooth: They all love sugar. You can even buy the affections of some of them by promising them chocolate pancakes, and the Ultimate Demon has one of their servants acting as a dedicated apple pie chef.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: According to [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1351163000464543751 one comic]], Heaven hasn't been bothering the demons on Earth because [[RefugeInAudacity the idea of legendary demons like Justice or Lucifer doing mundane things like getting groceries or doing laundry is ridiculous.]]
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Outside of a select few whose fates are shown, it's unknown what happened to the rest of the harem during the events of ''Examtaker''. Still, Loremaster losing her arms in the process of conquering hell implies that at least some of them fought back and were potentially killed.

!!Pandemonica, the Tired Demon
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pand_idle.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''"I could really use some coffee. I'm not myself without it."'']]
[[quoteright:350:[[labelnote:''"Keep it up and you might still survive the day with no fingers broken."'']]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pands_idle.png[[/labelnote]]]]

A fatigued and sleep-deprived demonic secretary who desperately needs her daily dose of caffeine, though many would agree she's much better without it.
----
* AmbiguouslyBi: [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1295389529474465792/photo/3 She admits that while she hasn't done anything to Zdrada (yet)]], if she stays a [[SarcasmMode good girl]], she might do something, to Zdrada's flustered protesting. And in this [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1541783672252145665 comic]], she seems quite... ''entertained'' by what she and Modeus are doing to the 'Taker.
* AnimalMotifs: Her hair looks a bit like sheep wool, serving as a perfect compliment to both her constant tiredness and her BitchInSheepsClothing attitude.
* BespectacledCutie: With her round glasses and lethargic demeanor, Pandemonica was made to appeal to this interest. Though it makes her look cute, it doesn't stop her from being as lethal as the other demon girls. Turns into ScaryShinyGlasses when she gets coffee and enters {{Sadist}} mode.
* {{Dominatrix}}: The webcomic heavily hints at a domineering physical relationship with [[AggressiveSubmissive Zdrada]], based on how Pandemonica can instantly cow her and have her blushing nervously. A later entry makes it more explicit by showing Pandemonica and Modeus subjecting Helltaker to rope bondage while dressed in fetishistic leather military outfits (while Azazel, also dressed up, cheerfully records the whole thing).
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Despite the fact that she's a demon, and even moreso that she's the most sadistic character in the game, she'll try to stop the Helltaker if he takes Zdrada's advice to kill himself.
* ExhaustedEyeBags: She has this in her typical form. She loses them after she gets her coffee.
* HellishPupils: When her sadistic side comes out, Pandemonica's eyes contract into blood red slits.
* HornedHumanoid: Special mention goes to Pandemonica because she's the only demon who's horns change. When tired and lacking caffeine, she only has two small horns poking out of her head. When she gets her coffee, they grow in size and length to reflect her awakened sadistic side.
* MeaningfulName: Her name is derived from ''Pandemonium'', a city of demons, representing her role as the Helltaker's introduction to the world of demons.
* MustHaveCaffeine:
** Pandemonica, the Tired Demon states that she's not herself until she's had her coffee. Unusually for this trope, the ending reveals that she becomes far ''less'' pleasant when she's had her caffeine, with her title changing to "The Sadistic Demon" and her threatening to break the protagonist's fingers if he brews it wrong. In addition, whenever she switches to her sadistic side, her horns expand in length substantially.
** A subsequent comic has shown Pandemonica can be friendly and cheerful as well, which Azazel attributes to Pandemonica getting very high-quality coffee.
* NeckSnap: How she kills you if you pick the wrong dialogue option.
* NiceToTheWaiter: [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1315644032899481600 She apparently treats the owner of a cafe down the street from where the Helltaker and the girls live rather nicely]]. Azazel assumes it's a third personality triggered by high quality coffee, [[{{Tsundere}} but Pandemonica doesn't confirm or deny it, being more flustered that Azazel was spying on her and confiscating her "research"]].
* OnAScaleFromOneToTen: She asks for one of these after giving you advice on the spikes in the second level. [[DevelopersForesight If you give her a ten, she'll comment she's never gotten that score before.]]
* {{Sadist}}: Once she's had her coffee. Her official title even changes, with her now becoming Pandemonica, the ''Sadistic'' Demon.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Modeus]]
!!Modeus, the Lustful Demon
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mod_idle.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''"You and me. Now."'']]

A nymphomaniac demon who litters her dialogue with sexual overtones, though she is rather naive when it comes to actual romance.
----
* {{Asmodeus}}: Her name is derived from his, and fitting her title she's obsessed with sex.
* BishieSparkle: She has red heart-shaped bubbles constantly floating around her hair, combining with her [[ExoticEyeDesigns heart-shaped pupils]] to show her obsession with sex and romance.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: The pupils of her eyes are shaped like hearts, which do a good job signifying the fact she's perpetually horny and sex-obsessed.
* GuestFighter: Modeus was announced as a free playable character in ''[[VisualNovel/MonsterProm Monster Prom 2: Monster Camp]]'''s Spooky Update on October 29th, 2021, with a Halloween release date.
* HotAsHell: As her title aptly notes, she's in a permanent state of horniness and is outright obsessed with sex, to the point of wanting to form her own harem, ethical methods be damned. Ironically, though, anything involving genuine love and romance is something she personally finds to be incredibly kinky.
* HaremSeeker: At least in the timeline where the Helltaker wound up trapped in the Abyss with Beelzebub. After the man brought his demon-girl harem back to Earth with him and then vanished, Modeus decided to follow in his footsteps by [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1341057243349979136 trying to create a harem of human guys]], and unlike him, she has no qualms about using "questionable" methods to do so, such as concocting experimental chemicals in the pursuit of creating a functioning LovePotion. She apparently does stuff like this often enough that she frequently shares the "punishment sofa" with Cerberus.
* LoveRedeems: Debatable. She seems more open to the idea of things such as "dates" instead of "breaking people's knees with a sledgehammer" after reading human romantic comedies, but is still notably prone to underhanded methods such as drugs, and causes problems frequently enough to be a regular inmate on the "punishment sofa."
** Although said problematic behaviour is much more pronounced in the timeline where Helltaker disappears into the abyss with Beelzebub, so it could just be backsliding.
* LuminescentBlush: She literally steams when the Helltaker suggests they go on a date together.
* MeaningfulName: "Modeus" is derived from "{{Asmodeus}}," a demon that theologian Peter Binsfield associated with the sin of Lust.
* NoSocialSkills: Due to the fact her only real interactions with humans in the past involved sex, she has no idea how to deal with anybody normally. She even once [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1361337258071236616 tried to make a visit to the local gym]] using gym-exercise-type porn videos as a reference for what to expect going there.
* PerpetualFrowner: Oddly enough, despite being a demon all about sex and pleasure, she never smiles, not even in a sexual way. Her default expression is a light worrisome frown, with her only other expressions being a judging stare or angry grimace. Granted, since the only form of happiness she knows is sex and we are never shown her doing so (for obvious reasons), the fact she's never seen smiling is understandable.
* SexySweaterGirl: She wears a turtleneck under her suit jacket, which is form-fitting enough to decently outline her impressively-endowed chest.
* StrangelyArousing:
** She can be found reading a romantic comedy in the PlayableEpilogue, where she states that she finds romance unbelievably kinky. When the Helltaker asks if she wants to go on a date, Modeus gets a LuminescentBlush and calls him a perverted degenerate for even suggesting the idea.
** In the Twitter comics, her own music does this to Azazel when she listens, turning her beet red instantly.
* TrueLoveIsAKink: After finding out about romantic comedies, she starts to think anything involving things that are truly romantic to be the kinkiest thing she's ever seen. When the Helltaker asks her if she wants to go on an ordinary date, Modeus calls him a "perverted degenerate" while blushing heavily.
* {{Yandere}}: The combination of her being a demon utterly obsessed with sex, living in hell where any sense of morality (such as consent and happiness) doesn't exist, and the only humans she normally interacts with being corrupt sinners that only care about getting ''out'' of Hell, means the only form of "love" she knows is kidnapping and forcing men into being her {{Sex Slave}}s, with her having decided by the time the Helltaker came that breaking their legs with a hammer was the best way to keep any more "lovers" from running away from her "affection." It's not until she's exposed to human media that she comes to think that love might potentially work in tamer forms in addition to those that she's used to, though she's still prone to drugging and possibly kidnapping people.

A trio of quirky [[LittleBitBeastly dog-like demon girls]] who are all inhabited by a single soul (and mind).
----
* TheCorrupter: Their directly-stated goal is to go to the mortal world in order to corrupt humans into performing evil deeds, something they actually try to pull off [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1320709194367049728 in a Halloween comic]] where they target some trick-or-treaters, but their efforts [[HarmlessVillain fail]] due to the Helltaker and Judgement dragging them back inside and chaining them up.
* CuteLittleFangs: Their "default" image shows each of them with a single [[StealthPun canine tooth]] peeking out.
* CutenessOverload: According to the death screen if you pick the wrong option, it's implied the Helltaker got a heart attack due to Cerberus being too cute. [[AmbiguousSituation Either that or they tore him apart to use the Hell gate.]]
* TheDividual: They're a trio of vessels inhabited by one soul. Their title refers to them in the singular as they are a HiveMind rather than just identical triplets. Despite this, they refer to themselves with plural pronouns.
-->[[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1305476833534775296 A demon can have many bodies... ... B-but it's still a single demon.]]
* GenkiGirl: They're all constantly happy like a bunch of little puppies. Until they get caught doing something they shouldn't have done.
* HellHound: Their very canine motifs and the name of the Greek guardian of Tartarus that they use marks them as one.
* HiveMind: Cerberus is one soul inhabiting three separate vessels. Apparently, what one body experiences is shared among the others (i.e., if one eats a pancake the others also experience the same happiness). If all three are experiencing the same thing, the feedback loop can get extremely dangerous.
* IAmLegion: They are a single soul inhabiting three bodies with a HiveMind, but they refer to themselves in plural.
* LittleBitBeastly: Cerberus the Triple Demon is a trio of vessels for one soul that look like SameSexTriplets with dog ears (though they still have the typical devil's forked tails like other demons in the game). It applies behaviorally, too; their "bad ending" has them pouncing the Helltaker like a bunch of playful puppies ([[AmbiguousSituation unless it was more like a rabid pack of dogs]]), and in the epilogue they act just like the guilty dog that knows you know it got into the garbage.
* LoopholeAbuse: The fine print states that in order to escape Hell, they're going to need a human. It doesn't specify ''how much'' of a human is needed, or if the human even has to be ''alive'', however.
* NoodleIncident: In the epilogue, they've done something to get the police knocking on the Helltaker's door. When he asks Cerberus about it, they're too embarrassed to say exactly what they did, only that they "screwed up" somehow.
* TheNoseKnows: Befitting their canine theme, Cerberus can detect which demon is in the level by scent. At least, those surrounded by distinct smells like cigarette smoke and hard liquor.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: While their explicit purpose is to [[TheCorrupter travel to Earth in order to corrupt humanity]], they're generally portrayed as friendly and somewhat harmless, easily quelled by the Helltaker and Judgement. However, they occasionally say things that imply they can be genuinely dangerous, such as whatever got the police on their tails and situations where they enter a "pleasure feedback loop" that prevents them from thinking straight.
* ReligiousAndMythologicalThemeNaming: In Creator/DanteAlighieri's ''Literature/TheDivineComedy'', the Greek monster Cerberus is a three-headed dog placed in the Third Circle, where it tortures gluttonous sinners. ''Helltaker'''s version is a HiveMind trio of dog girls found in the third stage, though the "gluttony" aspect is downplayed to being ravenously energetic like regular dogs..
* SameSexTriplets: Cerberus the Triple Demon resembles a trio of LittleBitBeastly demon triplets, referencing how the original Cerberus from Myth/ClassicalMythology is a dog with three heads. They're actually just three vessels inhabited by one soul.

Zdrada's younger sister. A grumpy and perpetually annoyed demon with anger issues and a sour mood, as her name suggests. She joins the harem after the Helltaker promises to play video games with her.
----
* AffectionateNickname: Zdrada calls her "Malinka."
* TheAlcoholic: Cerberus mentions the smell of alcohol in her level, and in the Epilogue she's seen grasping a bottle of Vodka.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: In her first appearance in [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1258012192357715969 a comic]] released a few days before ''Helltaker'', she has completely white skin, compared to the more natural tones she and the rest of the demons would have later.
* GamerChick: She really likes turn-based strategy games. The protagonist gets her into his harem by offering to play them with her.
* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: She bickers with her sister Zdrada a lot and reacts with annoyance at the mere hint of her presence on the area. So much that, after one argument, she tells the Helltaker to kill one of them fast.
* IronicName: Malina means raspberry in several Slavic languages, while the diminution Malinka, which her sister calls her, can either mean "Little raspberry" or, in Russian, "''Sweet'' as a little berry," which is ironic for someone dubbed the ''Sour'' Demon.
* NoodleIncident: One of the advice conversations has Zdrada mocking her fetish for turn-based strategy games by recounting an incident in which she got so turned on that she did something- and then Malina cuts her off immediately, telling the Helltaker to kill one of them.
* PerpetualFrowner: Malina never loses her, well, ''sour'' scowling face, even when supposedly happy as part of the Helltaker's harem and celebrating with him and the other demon girls.
* PerverseSexualLust: According to Zdrada, she's turned on by turn-based strategy games. The [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1258718902227533824 prequel comic]] suggests she's telling the truth, as Malina gets rather worked up describing the characters in ''[[VideoGame/HeroesOfMightAndMagic Heroes of Might & Magic III]]'', before she forces herself to calm down with a flustered expression.
* SiblingYinYang: Compare and contrast her with Zdrada.
* SlashedThroat: Pick the wrong thing to say, she makes a swiping motion and suddenly there's a [[HighPressureBlood fountain of blood coming out of your throat.]]

Malina's older sister. As her title suggests, she's a [[SmugSnake smug]] Bitch and cigarette chomper with a casual, whatever-you-say attitude. She joins the harem just because she can.
----
* AggressiveSubmissive: Heavily suggested to be a [[TooKinkyToTorture masochist]] who acts out in the hopes of getting "punished" for it. The webcomic goes as far as to imply that she's got ''[[AmbiguouslyBi something]]'' going on with Pandemonica, a {{sadist}} and {{dominatrix}}, who Zdrada is unusually sheepish around.
* BilingualBonus: "Zdrada" is Polish for "betrayal," an unpleasant name appropriate for the entitled "Bitch Demon."
* FingerSnapLighter: Attempts to light a cigarette this way in the epilogue, to limited success.
* GamerChick: While outwardly disdainful of them, the webcomic shows that Zdrada is actually just as good at turn based strategy games as her sibling -- albeit by figuring out the most unbalanced factions and strategies (like [[VideoGame/HeroesOfMightAndMagic Necropolis]] and [[VideoGame/SongsOfConquest the Barony of Loth]]), to make sure Malina regrets asking her to play.
* GlassesAreSexy: She puts on a pair of glasses in one comic, as she lost her usual contact lenses. When the Helltaker says he likes the look on her, Zdrada provokes him by declaring that she'll never wear them again.
* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: Possibly an example. Malina is nerdish and introverted, rather than "smart," and Zdrada punkish and extroverted, rather than "beautiful," but Zdrada teases her sister mercilessly over her interests, and wants her to get out more.
* GoodSmokingEvilSmoking: In her dialogue, she's either smoking or trying to light a cigarette.
* HolyBurnsEvil: She has a cross-shaped burn scar exactly where her cross touches her chest.
* LickedByTheDog: Judgement's dog is seen with its head in her lap in one strip, showing that despite her bitchiness she's got a bit of a good side to her
* MercyKill: Zdrada considers killing you to be this if you tell her your harem is mostly just playing turn-based strategy games. [[NonstandardGameOver Then she kills you]].
* PerpetualSmiler: In contrast with her sister Malina, Zdrada is never seen without a smug and naughty grin in her face.
* PsychoKnifeNut: She's among the more aggressively crazy demons in the harem, and she'll stabs you in the ribs if you claim your harem is just for turn-based strategy games.
* SiblingYinYang: Compare and contrast her with Malina.
* SuicideDare: PlayedForLaughs after you get her. She goads you into suicide and then starts bickering with Malina. [[CrossesTheLineTwice You even get an achievement for obliging!]]
* TooKinkyToTorture: It's implied in the epilogue that she likes to be "punished," and says that she's been a "very bad girl." When the Helltaker says that she'd like it, she backs off and tells him to screw himself, although her expression isn't exactly saying "no." The art book even says the original concept for Zdrada had been "a mean masochist." The fact she always wears a cross despite how it [[HolyBurnsEvil constantly burns her skin]] adds to the masochistic implications.

An angel filled with curiosity about demonkind. She especially likes demons of [[ArmoredClosetGay the same gender]], but never properly express it.
----
* AmbiguouslyBi: While her interest in women is fairly obvious, there are hints in ''Examtaker'' that she has a thing for handsome men, too. That is, if Loremaster's suggestive remarks to Subject 67 are anything to go by.
** [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1541783672252145665 This comic seems to put her firmly in the bi camp.]]
* ArmoredClosetGay: WordOfGod from Vanripper implies she's likely a lesbian, [[https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/268620283340914689/714579884290080818/unknown.png but deeply in the closet about it due to her status as a servant of God.]][[invoked]]
* CorruptTheCutie: While she was already a CovertPervert and an ArmoredClosetGay, she was a genuinely angelic NiceGirl who had zero sinful intentions. But the longer she hung around the demons, the less "angelic" she became. Initially, Azazel just admired the attractive bodies of the demon girls, but then she took up stalking the girls, extensively researching tomes of black magic, looked up porn online out of curiosity, and ends up joining Modeus and Justice in trying to engage in filming "real" porn. This corruption reaches the point of being literal, with her hair turning from black to gray and growing horn bumps, both signs that she's becoming a FallenAngel.
* CovertPervert: She initially seems like a perfect example of a prim-and-proper wholesome-minded angel, who's only in Hell for her demon-based research. However, the story periodically hints at her interest in demons being... less than professional. Such increasingly suspicious hints include:
** Acting nervously interested about demons in general and Modeus' "warped view of love".
** Staring with clear sweatdropping interest at Judgement's breasts during the normal ending image.
** Apparently [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1315644032899481600 stalking the demons everywhere they go]] on the excuse of it being for "research."
** [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1361337258071236616 Countering Modeus' claims of the local gym staffing porn actors]] in such a way that implies she independently looked up online porn for herself, followed by checking common locations and situations they're based on, to find out how close to reality they are.
** When [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1363843811651248131 Justice offers to help Modeus with her fantasies]], she's seen tagging along with a video camera, obviously very interested in recording anything that results.
* DistaffCounterpart: The FallenAngel Azazel from Jewish mythology was a male angel. The Azazel in this game is a female, so it's unclear if they're meant to be the same angel or if she just has the same name.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Her hair begins to turn white as she becomes corrupted.
* FallenAngel: Her time living among demons has had an impact on her. One of the comics reveals that [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1374027338854334464 her hair has started to turn from black to grey]], all but confirming that she's starting to fall since every demon has MysticalWhiteHair. Azazel remains in denial about it, buying tons of hair dye to keep her hair black (which doesn't work). The denial grows further when she [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1384183929389740041 finds a horn-like bump]] growing from her scalp, rebuking Justice's explanation about the falling of Judgement and Lucifer as [[FlatEarthAtheist just fairy-tales perpetuated as a joint-effort between Heaven and Hell]]. Lucifer [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1386698592937709570 stirs the pot]] by suggesting that Azazel could try going deeper undercover if she looks more like a demon, a temptation that Azazel falls for hook, line, and sinker. In the far future, she falls completely and becomes Loremaster--all the while remaining completely convinced that she's still an angel.
* FatalFlaw: [[CuriosityIsACrapshoot Curiosity]]. Spending so much time around sinful demons and joining in their antics is leading Azazel on the path to becoming a FallenAngel because she just can't resist the temptation to learn more about them. Though she's in heavy denial about falling, the evidence piles up enough that she planned to return to Heaven to be treated for her condition. But Lucifer tempts her with the idea of being "in disguise" as a demon to learn facts about Hell that no angel would ever know. Azazel's so smitten with the idea that her fall is guaranteed. So guaranteed in fact, that in the timeline where the Helltaker goes to be with Beelzebub, Azazel becomes so corrupted by sin that she becomes Loremaster, the new overlord of Hell.
* FlatEarthAtheist: Azazel is in heavy denial about becoming a FallenAngel, saying that the concept of "falling" is a myth spread by the Church to ScareEmStraight. Even when Zdrada tells her that falling is real, Azazel would rather believe Zdrada works for the Church. Her denial grows further when she starts growing horns, with her taking Justice's mentioning of Judgement and Lucifer falling as a sign that Heaven and Hell are working together to maintain the "lie" about the fallen angel "fairy tale" being real. All the while, the obvious fact that she's falling from grace continues to be a point of major denial for Azazel. Even losing her halo after becoming Loremaster doesn't convince her that she's no longer an angel and turned into a full-fledged demon, deluding herself into believing it just fell off and she misplaced it rather than it vanishing into nothing once her fall was complete.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: Her outfit is white with gold highlights.
* LightIsGood: Azazel the Curious Angel is an angel who wears white with gold highlights, as opposed to the RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver color scheme of the demons. She also says she's studying the demons for a thesis rather than being interested in them in any romantic way. Though the ending implies that [[CorruptTheCutie she's starting to enjoy the loud and rowdy life with the harem]], and the slide has her visibly blushing when staring at Judgement's cleavage.
* NiceGirl: As befitting an angel, she is pretty pleasant. Along with [[TokenGoodTeammate Justice]], she's the only one who doesn't kill you if you pick the wrong dialogue option. (Though it's still a NonStandardGameOver.)
* NightmareFetishist: Her somewhat pervy curiosity of demonkind doesn't seem to end on demon girls, and she is just as much into any demonic creatures. However, given the difference in her attitude towards the game and the girls, it's possible that her sexual interests are limited to the girls, making this {{downplayed|Trope}}. [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1275445283220975617 Shown in a little comic made by the game's creator where she seems to "appreciate" demonic creatures in Inferno castle of Heroes 3, a little too much.]] To the point of driving her to tears. [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1303040403860586496 In artwork made during an official stream]], she enthusiastically interviews a [[VideoGame/DoomEternal Marauder.]]
* NonStandardGameOver: She's an angel, so she won't kill you if you say the wrong thing to her, but if the Helltaker tries hitting on her by saying he's looking for angels she misunderstands and brings him up to heaven, which means he loses his demon girl harem.
* PerpetualSmiler: She's almost always seen with a smile on her face. While there are rare moments that can get a frown out of her, whether by upsetting her or doing something that ''really'' brings out her sense of curiosity, 90% of the time she has a big goofy grin on her face, even while nervous or sporting a ThousandYardStare.
* ReligiousAndMythologicalThemeNaming: She's named after the Biblical Azazel, a FallenAngel that engaged in a bunch of lustfully sinful adventures amidst both humans and demons, even acting as a link between demons and angels through his escapades that Heaven tolerated, to the displeasure of God. ''This'' Azazel is a good-hearted angel who gets heavily involved with demons out of her desires as well, albeit mainly through [[CuriosityIsACrapshoot curiosity]] with a hint of lust. Her hanging around them and being tempted into less Heavenly pursuits is gradually turning her into a FallenAngel, and the thing that solidifies her fall is through Lucifer manipulating her into believing becoming more demonic would help her better understand demons for the sake of connecting the two sides through her.
* StalkerWithACrush: [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1315644032899481600 A comic where she reveals Pandemonica's hidden side]] heavily implies that one of her methods for researching the demon girls is stalking them around without them knowing, something that alarms Pandemonica into "confiscating" said research. A later comic shows that she has extensive binders for all of the girls, although only four can be seen.
* StealthPun: She's writing a ''[[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Curious Angel's Thesis]]''.
* ThousandYardStare: In the epilogue. She clearly didn't expect to end up becoming part of a harem and her dialogue implies that she's been participating more than she expected. Although she seems to be more bewildered by her situation than actually upset given that her chief concern is that she can't write about what she's experienced in the thesis she's writing as no one would believe her.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Fitting for the sole angel among the main cast, she takes this the furthest out of everybody. In addition to how she shares Justice's position as a rare case of never posing a lethal threat to the Helltaker, she combines the strong sin-averse morality of Judgement with the friendly and approachable NiceGirl temperament of Justice, meaning the majority of her actions and interactions are both friendly and morally sound. Even the fact she's a CovertPervert NightmareFetishist is heavily moderated, with the absolute worst she gets being the fact her half-research half-attraction towards the demon girls can result in her doing questionable things, such as acting as a StalkerWithACrush or letting the girls coerce her into doing perverted stuff. As Loremaster, though, she drops the "good" part, being far more willing to torment and potentially kill Subject 67 for the sake of experimentation.
* TransparentCloset: Azazel is interested in demon girls and demons in general, but she repeatedly insists it's just for her research. This is in spite of her following around the rest of the girls when they intend to film a porn movie, and only found out that porn isn't real because she "checked" on the actresses. [[WordOfGod Vanripper]] has even near-confirmed through massive implication that Azazel is indeed in the closet because having feelings for the same sex is going against the rules of Heaven.[[invoked]]

The former High Prosecutor of Hell who has gone blind at some point. She looks like an action movie star from the 80s, with a confident aura and badass shades.
----
* AlmightyJanitor: Despite being the former High Prosecutor that banished Beelzebub to the Abyss and a close friend of the Queen of Hell, she joins the human Helltaker's harem simply because he asked. Played even straighter when she becomes the "Apple Pie Demon" after Loremaster conquerors Hell.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's the nicest out of all the demons, being a TokenGoodTeammate who never poses a lethal danger to the Helltaker at any point, even being able to get along with any and all of the other demon girls regardless of personality. But one best be wary about messing with her, since not only is she a RetiredBadass who acted as High Prosecutor before Judgement (who gives a good idea of the bare-minimum badassery needed for the job), but she's also heavily feared and respected by Heaven itself as strong enough to beat up Beelzebub and toss them into the Abyss.
* BlindJustice: Quite fittingly for a character named Justice who formerly acted as High Prosecutor and passed judgement upon sinners to determine the weight of their sins, she is also completely blind.
* BlindPeopleWearSunglasses: When questioned about why she wears sunglasses [[SunglassesAtNight even in the dark]], she states that rather than any special reason, it's simply because she's blind, so to avoid weirding people out through possessing cataracts and not looking at people she's talking to, she covers them, and because the RuleOfCool is her way of life, she makes sure she covers them with CoolShades.
* CoatCape: She wears her suit unbottoned and draped over her shoulders like a cape.
* CoolShades: A staple of Justice's appearance is the pair of sunglasses she wears which, due to her blindness, means that she wears them [[InvokedTrope entirely for the coolness factor]]. She loses them by the time of ''Examtaker''.
* CovertPervert: [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1363843811651248131 This sequel comic]] to Modeus' gym-porn debacle reveals that Justice is actually quite interested in sexing up humans, trying to go out and experience the events of a cop porn video Modeus told her about. When she learns the porn was faked with actors, she brings Modeus and Azazel along to try and convince some humans to "act out" those videos.
* HandicappedBadass:
** She doesn't show it much currently, since she's both retired and a NiceGirl, but in the past she was able to beat up and imprison Beelzebub, and Heaven considers her dangerous enough that she was given ''two'' RedBaron names, all in spite of the fact that she's completely blind.
** ''Examtaker'' reveals she's apparently a SupremeChef when it comes to baked goods, or at least apple pies, despite how visually intensive cooking usually is, meaning she's at a serious disadvantage.
* HappinessInSlavery: In contrast to Lucifer, she seemingly doesn't care at all about being MadeASlave by Azazel/Loremaster. It helps that Loremaster praises her and treats her more like a prize employee, and less like a subjugated servant the way she does Lucy.
* HiddenDepths: The events of "Examtaker" show that she's surprisingly good at making apple pies. Even Lucifer comments that Justice is a "treasure" for them, completely sincerely.
* {{Meido}}: She's dressed like this during the events of ''Examtaker'', and interestingly, unlike Lucifer, who resents her situation behind the Loremaster's back, Justice genuinely doesn't seem to mind her position of Apple Pie maker.
* MsViceGirl: She's the second-most moral demon among the cast after Judgement, being a NiceGirl who never poses a danger to the Helltaker. However, unlike Judgement, who has such strong morals that she refuses to do anything sinful, Justice is all about how much fun she can have without hurting anybody, which sometimes results in her breaking laws or coercing others into committing sin, not because she's trying to damn her companions to Hell, but because she doesn't let pesky things like "rules" keep her from enjoying life.
* NiceGirl: Justice is very laid-back and friendly, and is the only demon that doesn't threaten bodily harm and/or death on the Helltaker at any point.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Beat up Beelzebub and tossed them into the Abyss a long time ago during their time as High Prosecutor. She had a lot of fun doing it, and wishes you'd been there to see it. It was apparently so awesome that she earned the title "Flybreaker" for it.
* PassingTheTorch: She was the former High Prosecutor, but passed on the job to Judgement.
* RedBaron: According to one comic, in Heaven she's referred to as "the Blind" and "Flybreaker."
* RetiredBadass: She was the original High Prosecutor of Hell, though the exact reason for her retirement, whether her blindness made it difficult to properly judge sinners or she just felt Judgement was better for the job, hasn't been explained yet. Regardless, just because she left the job and spends most of her time happily hanging around having fun doesn't mean she has in any way lost her edge, as even when walking around in broad daylight and fully visible to angelic surveillance, the watching angels speak of her in a mixture of fear and respect, implying they know she's still not somebody to mess with unprepared.
* RuleOfCool: Her bread and butter, essentially. It only matters to her how cool anything is. In the ending, she's taking bets on why the Helltaker always wears his sunglasses, with Justice betting on him having laser vision.
* StillBelievesInSanta: Being convinced by an in-denial Azazel about the idea of [[FallenAngel angelic falling]] being a lie told to her by Judgement and Lucifer has her off-handedly mention how the same thing happened involving Santa Claus, strongly implying that she still held the belief that he's real well into her adulthood, only learning the truth very recently.
* SunglassesAtNight: Due to [[BlindPeopleWearSunglasses her blindness potentially weirding people out in various ways]] and being so obsessed with coolness that she just had to use CoolShades for hiding them, she wears sunglasses all the time, even in the dimly-lit Hell or on Earth at night-time. The only reason she ''ever'' exposes her eyes is to invoke sunglasses-related gestures, like the head-tilted "Are you serious?" look or a sexy TheGlassesComeOff gesture.
* SupremeChef: At least in ''Examtaker'', where her apple pies are so good that they're used to control Subject 67, who utterly loves them to the detriment of his mental freedom. Sure, he has an unnatural love of them, but it's implied that it does have to be ''good'' apple pie.
* TokenGoodTeammate: She's actually a rather downplayed case amongst the demons, especially compared to Judgement. While she ''is'' a NiceGirl who doesn't pose any harm to the Helltaker, she's actually a slight case of a MsViceGirl, being all for engaging in and encouraging others to engage in law-breaking sinning if it's for the sake of harmless fun.

The de facto head honcho of Hell. She's a calculating bureaucrat and businesswoman who makes offers that no mortal can refuse, though she's a sucker for chocolate.
----
* AffectionateNickname: She's referred to as "Lucy" by both Beelzebub and the Ultimate Demon. Though, given the animosity between Lucifer and the other two, this could be seen as more of a mocking nickname than an affection one.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: She's just as wacky as the other demon girls, but [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1386698592937709570 this comic]] shows that at the end of the day, she's still the Devil, and corrupting people using sweet lies is her nature.
* BloodyMurder: Lucifer's second BadEnd has her killing the Helltaker by turning all his blood into vinegar.
* BreatherLevel: Her "puzzle" consists of a regular office with a line of skeletons. Just walk around them, kick the one in the front of the line, and then take its place. Given that she comes before the two hardest levels in the game, this gives the player a much-needed break.[[invoked]]
* ComicallySmallBribe: How does the Helltaker convince the Queen of Hell to join his harem? [[SweetTooth By offering her chocolate pancakes]] and real-time-strategy video games.
* CoolCrown: She wears a black spiked tiara as a signifier that, while [[NoRespectGuy none of the other demons respect her authority]], she's still the bonafide Queen of Hell.
* TheCorrupter: Judgement refers to Lucifer as a ''[[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1379037838478557190 snake]]'', the Biblical implications going all the way back to the serpent that tempted Eve into tasting the ForbiddenFruit in the Garden of Eden. The way Lucifer [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1386698592937709570 uses a motherly manner to lure Azazel]] into [[FallenAngel falling]] further is especially telling, showing she has few scruples about poaching angels from Heaven with honeyed words in order to recruit them after they fall. The "Examtaker" timeline is where she succeeds in making Azazel fall... but it [[GoneHorriblyRight works too well]], as Azazel becomes Loremaster and takes the crown of Hell from Lucy. But that doesn't mean that Lucy isn't trying to get her crown back and become the Queen once again.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: It's her fault that Azazel truly descends into a FallenAngel and becomes Loremaster. Lucy managed to CorruptTheCutie as intended. But Lucy couldn't have forseen that [[BewareTheNiceOnes this nice girl Azazel would become Loremaster and overthrow her]], taking her crown and forcing her to serve as a maid.
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** She'll walk all over the Helltaker like any of the other girls, and even stabs him [[DisproportionateRetribution for accidentally splashing her with batter while mixing it vigorously]] in the artbook's pancake recipe comic. But she still thinks that it's the least she can do to help out the Helltaker in the kitchen.
** Even she's a bit unnerved by the fact that Earth regularly gets {{Alien Invasion}}s and {{Zombie Apocalypse}}s, wondering if her old boss has finally given up on the planet.
* FallenAngel: As fitting for a character based on one of the oldest examples, Lucifer was formerly an angel in service to God before eventually falling and taking up her role as the ruler of Hell.
* FoodAsBribe: The Helltaker can have her as part of the harem if he convinces her to try his pancakes. Lucifer has a thing for them, fortunately.
* AGlassOfChianti: She's always seen holding a glass of red wine when you're in Hell. She even swirls it when the Helltaker walks up to her.
* HiddenDepths: One [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1379037838478557190 comic]] reveals Lucifer apparently likes "cute talking animals," since she willingly brings up to Judgement about going to a six-hour marathon of nothing but that subject at the cinema, to which Judgement agrees despite both of them admitting their disdain of each other otherwise.
* HoistByTheirOwnPetard: Lucifer goes about trying to [[TheCorrupter convince Azazel to further become a Fallen Angel]] by telling her the 'disguise' would help her study Demons and Sin even better. Come some undetermined time in the future, this disguise and goal would end up toppling Lucifer from the throne of Hell and give rise to the Loremaster. [[GoneHorriblyRight Sometimes, she does her job a little too well.]]
* HotAsHell: The Queen/CEO of Hell is presented as a BadassInANiceSuit, and she can be convinced to join the Helltaker's harem.
* {{Housewife}}: She's the most domestic out of the harem, who helps with cooking and laundry in the Helltaker's household and is often seen wearing an apron. The two's relationship is even LikeAnOldMarriedCouple, with Lucifer sometimes bickering and teasing him. This ends up being played darkly when Loremaster seems to see domestic work as all she's good for... and now she doesn't even have the wife part.
* MadeASlave: After Loremaster, aka Azazel, conquered hell, Lucifer has been forced to be her maid... though Lucy still tries to get Loremaster assassinated bi-weekly.
* {{Meido}}: Referenced by Justice in a conversation with her, where she comments Lucifer wouldn't do half-bad if she tried maid roleplaying. Ends up becoming one after Azazel/Loremaster took over Hell, forced to be Loremaster's right-hand girl. Lucy is ''not'' happy about this, given that she openly grimaces when having to be subservient, and that [[TheStarscream she's openly plotting to get her crown back]].
* NoRespectGuy: Despite being the Queen/CEO of Hell, there's implication (particularly from Justice) that the demons follow Lucifer more out of free will than she'd like.
-->'''Lucifer:''' I'm supposed to be the goddamn Queen of Hell! Why is nobody ever listening to me?
* NotSoStoic: She's normally the picture of calm and smooth arrogance, but when Judgement refuses to stand down on her attempts to kill the Helltaker and the other demons even cheer the fighting on, Lucifer is noticeably red-faced in embarrassment while holding back tears.
* TheOlderImmortal: Vanripper has stated that white horns denote older demons. The fact that Beezelbub and Lucifer are the only two demons with white horns implies that they are ancient even by demon standards.
* {{Satan}}: Lucifer is one of the demons the protagonist adds to his harem. In this game, she's a woman, and is described as the CEO of Hell.
* SignificantWardrobeShift: In the epilogue and comics posted by Vanripper, Lucifer ditches her tiara, jacket, tie, and gloves, wearing her shirt with the sleeves slightly rolled up, and has her hair in a bun.
* SlasherSmile: Under normal circumstances, her way of smiling is through being a SmugSmiler. But [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1386698592937709570 right after she manages to]] [[TheCorrupter trick Azazel into willingly continuing her descent into a]] FallenAngel, [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Ez6LAGfWQAApNuy?format=jpg&name=large Lucifer gives a sinister grin]] that reminds us why she's the Queen of Hell.
* TheStarscream: She may have been subdued by Loremaster and forced to be her maid, but as Loremaster notes Lucy still tries to assassinate her roughly twice a week, and in private she tries to convince Subject 67 to usurp her himself, since Loremaster knows all of Lucy's tricks while 67 is enough of an unknown variable that he might have a shot.
* SweetTooth: The main reason Lucifer decides to join the main character's harem is that he offers her chocolate pancakes. ''Examtaker'' also shows she has a thing for the apple pies that Justice makes.
* TimeAbyss: WordOfGod has it that demons' horns whiten with age, but very, very slowly. That Lucifer and Beelzebub have white horns shows how exceedingly old they are in comparison to the other demons.
* {{Tsundere}}: One of the more antagonistic demons when first encountered, but by the end of the game she seems to be genuinely fond of the Helltaker, becoming distraught when Judgement threatens him in the final boss fight, and helping him bake pancakes in the epilogue, not that she'd ever admit to it. The "Examtaker" bonus chapter shows she still carries a torch for the Helltaker as she reminisces on her time with him while adjusting Subject 67's tie.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: [[https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/898/044/eaa.jpg One of the comics]] reveals she has some limited shapeshifting abilities, which she uses to transform into a goat-type BeastMan after the Helltaker asks about why demons are often depicted with goat-like features. She uses it to tease him about being [[UsefulNotes/FurryFandom a furry]].
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: If ''Examtaker'' is any indication, then that push Lucifer gave Azazel to go undercover as a demon ends up biting her in the ass ''hard'' Not only did Loremaster conquer Hell, but she forced Lucifer to be a maid as well.
* YourSoulIsMine: If you pledge your soul to her, [[NonStandardGameOver she kisses you on the forehead, and your life melts away.]] She notes that until the Helltaker arrived, everyone who reached her chose said option, and she still seems to consider him her "property" even when she does join.

[[caption-width-right:350:''"IGNITE THE SIN MACHINE! SUFFERING MUST BE MADE!"'']]

A loud-mouthed demon who seems a bit too dedicated to her job. She is the current High Prosecutor of Hell, disposing sinners by putting them through the Sin Machine.
----
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: While all the other demons have red skin-tones, that's just the dim lighting of Hell tinting it, since Azazel and the humans besides the black cop share it. Judgement however has a completely unique, inhumanly grey skin color.
* ChainPain: She attacks you by summoning glowing white chains that stretch across the arena and damage you if they make contact.
* FallenAngel: As noted by Justice when she talks to Azazel about her falling, Judgement was also formerly an angel who fell and became a demon.
* FinalBoss: Unlike the other demons, who simply vibe to the music behind their respective puzzles, Judgement actively challenges you to a battle as the base game’s only real boss fight.
* FourIsDeath: Judgement's battle has four distinct stages, and getting hit four times in any one stage will result in death.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: She is the only demon with glowing white eyes. Although it's suggested Justice had similar eyes back during her own High Prosecutor days.
* HaremNanny: While the Helltaker provides the house for the demons, Judgement is the one generally responsible for wrangling everyone, such as [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1320709194367049728 punishing Cerberus after the latter tries to corrupt some kids]], or [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1341057243349979136 stopping Modeus's plans to get her own human harem]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She has a rather stern and commanding personality as the High Prosecutor, holding a GoodIsNotNice attitude over maintaining the law and order of Hell, even if that means punishing a mostly innocent human that walked into Hell willingly when they try to ''leave'', but beneath that no-nonsense JudgeJuryAndExecutioner persona is one of the kindest and most well-meaning demons in the underworld. She's fully willing to "postpone" the Helltaker's "punishment" once he breaks her Sin Machine and convinces her to take a "vacation" by joining his harem, and when "off-the-clock" she generally has a friendly and approachable attitude, only bringing out her sterner attitude when reprimanding the rowdier girls.
* JudgeJuryAndExecutioner: Her status as the High Prosecutor of Hell means she acts as the sole true enforcer of the underworlds laws, jurying the level of sins a damned person possesses, judging them based on the weight and type of sinning, and executing the appropriate punishment. Even Lucifer, the Queen of Hell herself, has no jurisdiction over how Judgement does her job.
* KnightTemplar: She doesn't derive any joy from her job as High Prosecutor, but she feels duty-bound to carry out judgement against human sinners that try to leave Hell, with even Lucifer, the Queen of Hell herself, unable to stop her. Even once she's beaten and joins the Helltaker's harem, she is the most heavily conscious of the rules and laws of the mortal realm, punishing the other girls whenever they risk committing criminal actions.
* LargeHam: With her manic and energetic expression and her dialogue being written in all caps as well as being so bombastic, Judgement is this very much. Most girls are quite soft-spoken and calm, but Judgement just spouts her lines in the most theatrical fashion possible. Once you get to make her the offer to join the harem, however, her speech and disposition become more subdued.
* LickedByTheDog: One of the biggest signs that she's not such a bad demon is that dogs seem to instinctively like her, such as [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1303040403860586496 in this official stream art]], where it's happily licking her face, or [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1351163000464543751 when she went on a stroll with Justice]], where the dog just walked up to her, happily staring and panting when she picks it up. She apparently even [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1374027338854334464 outright adopted it]], with it now happily living with the girls.
* MsFanservice: Granted, all the demon girls are attractive, but Judgement is the only skimpily dressed one among them, with her sex appeal being such that Azazel stares at her breasts in the epilogue. Even when wearing more modest clothing in the comics, she still leaves the top open to expose her plentiful cleavage.
* MundaneUtility: Those glowing white magical chains she creates to fight the Helltaker also function well as a way to restrain people, fitting for the "jailer" of Hell. After coming to Earth, she mainly utilizes them to keep the rowder harem members in check, chaining up those like Cerberus or Modeus and having them sit on the "punishment sofa."
* NavelDeepNeckline: The jacket and top of her work outfit are open clear to her abdomen, giving you a good view of her chest and abs. Even when she wears casual clothes, she still leaves the top open down to the middle of her chest, continuing to expose her cleavage.
* NoIndoorVoice: Most of her dialogue is written in all caps, which indicates this. However, it's indicated it's at least partially her playing up her image, as it becomes normal when she stops the theatrics long enough to admit she'd actually rather not torture the Helltaker but it's her job and offering her to join the harem.
* NonstandardCharacterDesign: Judgment sticks out quite a bit from the rest of the group--her skin is dark gray instead of pale, and she's the only one to have no real "suit" motif to her design.
* PunchClockVillain: Being High Prosecutor means she's in charge of judging the sins of humans and meting out appropriate punishments, along with stopping any attempts to escape from Hell, and while she holds a KnightTemplar disposition about her work, she actually rather dislikes the job despite seeing it as necessary, and the moment the Helltaker provides her with an excuse to ''stop'' acting out her role by beating her and asking her to join the harem, she immediately takes him up on the offer, viewing it as technically being a "vacation" from her duties.
* SheCleansUpNicely: While her High Prosecutor uniform is already quite alluring, when she actually wears a suit like the other demons, she looks outright dashing.
* SignificantWardrobeShift: In some of the more recent comics by Vanripper, she's started wearing an outfit identical to Lucifer's.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: By far shows the most skin out of all the characters.
* TarotMotifs: Judgement has the number 20 in roman numbers in her armband and the back of her jacket, which is the number of the tarot card of the same name.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Of a different sort than either Azazel or Justice, as rather than being a completely harmless NiceGirl who can either be tempted into sinning like Azazel or outright revels in mostly-harmless sinning like Justice, Judgement's actually a GoodIsNotNice JerkWithAHeartOfGold whose sense of morality is the strongest out of everybody, not only refusing to do anything even slightly sinful, but also reigning in the more troublesome members like Cerberus or Modeus when they try to wreak havoc on Earth. Even her status as the FinalBoss is just her trying to enforce the laws of Hell, and she's quite easily swayed into finding a loophole in her job that lets her spare the Helltaker and spend a "vacation" on Earth. There's implications that this is because she's a FallenAngel of a similar sorts to Lucifer, but unlike her who fell due to sinfully indulging in her desires in opposition of God's laws and rules, Judgement is strongly implied to have taken the idea of maintaining laws and rules to such KnightTemplar levels that even God found her extreme and cast her out, so her morality and goodness never wavered even after becoming a demon.
* WeAreStrugglingTogether: While Judgement and Lucifer both have important jobs administrating Hell, they don't care too much for one another. Judgement explicitly calls Lucifer a "snake" and refuses her orders to stand down when torturing the Helltaker. The fact that they are both fallen angels instead of native demons seems to contribute to their animosity, especially the implications that their reasons for falling are completely opposite of each other.

Skeletal {{Mooks}} who serve as obstacles on the Helltaker's quest.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: In the prequel comic about Malina, a bunch of them are depicted as ganging up on the Helltaker and giving him a hard time, whereas in the game, they're incapable of ([[NPCRoadblock at least directly]]) even harming him and he's capable of destroying them with a single kick if they're up against a wall.
* BodyguardingABadass: Two of them join Lucifer's side when you speak with her, yet she's the one who kills you if you pick the wrong dialogue options.
* TheDeadCanDance: Two of them are dancing with big grins once you successfully convince Judgement to join you and Beelzebub in the secret ending.
* DefeatEqualsExplosion: Upon being defeated, they burst into a bunch of {{Stock Femur Bone}}s.
* DemBones: They appear skeletal, despite looking very buff. In dialogue, they are only referred to as Undead Slaves.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Played with. Their eyes are menacingly glowing white when they are bodyguarding Lucifer, but in the [[MemeticMutation Glorious Success screens]] they're obviously happy and most definitely not doom-inducing.
* NPCRoadblock: Their primary purpose. Actively Defied by the Helltaker, who can kick them around and even destroy them if they're backed against a wall, and played straight in that doing so costs the player Will, requiring them to avoid or spare certain skeletons to successfully complete the level.
* OutOfFocus: While they had prominent roles in both the game and a few of the early comics, they pretty much vanish from the comics taking place after the game story, which is {{justified|Trope}} since they act as guards for Hell, along with not making any sort of agreement to join the Helltaker, so they don't factor into the Earth-focused plots of the comics.
* ShipperOnDeck: From their positively giddy reactions when the Helltaker convinces Judgement to join his harem and if he joins Beelzebub in the Abyss they seem to wholeheartedly approve.

A group of heavenly beings that are only seen in Azazel's secret ending.
----
* AmazonBrigade: They're all women.
* AmbiguousSituation: It's not clear what's happening in the only image they're seen in. All the girls in the back are praying-at-attention, so either the officer is glaring at the Helltaker who lied his way into Heaven, or she's disciplining one of her subordinates. Or she's ''[[WhatTheHellPlayer glaring at the player]].''
* TheArmiesOfHeaven: The angels of heaven are organized into a military.
* BlingOfWar: The officer has a rather finely decorated dress uniform, HatOfAuthority included.
* CassandraTruth: One of the comics indicates that the angels have seen some of the harem on Earth (including Justice, Judgement, and Lucifer), but the angel who notices this is dismissed and told they're probably just lookalikes. Because the idea of [[VillainsOutShopping Justice and Judgement going to Earth for grocery shopping]] is considered too ridiculous to believe.
* DeathGlare: The officer in front is seen furiously glaring at... [[AmbiguousSituation someone.]]
* GoodLookingPrivates: All of them are attractive young women, and WordOfGod states that Heaven may or may not have a military fetish going on.[[invoked]]
* HeteronormativeCrusader: Between the fact that Heaven is apparently a military ("[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_ask,_don%27t_tell don't ask, don't tell]]" ring a bell?) and Azazel being heavily implied to be an ArmouredClosetGay, it doesn't take a genius to put two and two together. The fact that the more radical branches of Christianity, who also believe in strict obedience, believe homosexuality is a sin only enhances this.
* HolyHalo: The angels in the back have them, but oddly enough, the officer in front doesn't.
* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals: All the angels in the back are completely identical, with only varying hair styles.

On the other hand, the policewoman escorting the detective is wearing quite a large amount of tactical armour, and holding an automatic rifle, as if prepared for a confrontation. Then again, in one of the comics, the planet is apparently regularly subjected to alien invasions and zombie plagues so this might just be normal procedure.
* SharpDressedWoman: The detective is wearing a sharp suit of a light gray color.
* SWATTeam: The armored officer certainly gives off this vibe.
* SweetTooth: Upon the Helltaker offering them pancakes, the armored officer is seen taking off her mask and eagerly licking her lips.
* TokenMinority: The detective is black, though given how she's one of the only three human characters in the game (the detective, the police officer with her, and the Helltaker himself) it's not a particularly egregious example.
* WholeCostumeReference: The SWAT officer's uniform looks like it was pulled right from the SWAT team in the anime ''Anime/GreatPretender''. Relatedly, one of the female SWAT officers in that anime has long red hair.

A more human form of the aforementioned Beelzebub.
----
* AnimalMotifs: Beelzebub's outfit when she transforms into AFormYouAreComfortableWith is very fly-themed, with fly-shaped buttons, earrings, bracelets, and a fly-shaped broach. The inside of her jacket also resembles the pattern of a fly's wings and they rise and flap when she's excited.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: If you seek advice in the first level, Beelzebub comments that you have yet to find any cute demon girls to provide advice, and that "no matter how cute [she is, she's] but a narrator." It seems like a joke about Beelzebub's rather grotesque appearance, but the secret ending reveals she is indeed another CuteMonsterGirl.
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: In the secret ending, she turns from an EldritchAbomination into a cute girl to make the Helltaker more comfortable.
* FurryReminder: As her true form is a fly-like AnimalisticAbomination, she has a few of their characteristic traits, such as wiping her forehead and hands with a cloth when she's nervous in a similar way to how flies clean themselves, and producing a poisonously corrosive saliva from her mouth when eating, as [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1330908609782362112 this comic]] shows.
* GenderReveal: Seconds before taking on AFormYouAreComfortableWith, Beelzebub calls herself the "Mistress of Flies," letting slip that she's, well, a ''she''. Beelzebub had cleverly never been referred to by gendered pronouns before this point.
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: Played with. Beelzebub refutes Lucifer's claim the Abyss is a realm of madness by stating she's more bored out of her mind than anything (to the point she made an entire castle from molding the shadows of the realm to pass the time) and states being a little mad would be a welcome change of pace. However, as she notes under UnreliableNarrator, the possibility that she has indeed gone insane while in the Abyss and simply made up the story to pass the time might by true as well.
* IHaveManyNames: Said word for word by her in the secret ending, right before she lists all her titles: The Sovereign of Pestilence, The Warden of Decay, The Mistress of Flies, and The [[Music/KingCrimson Queen Crimson]].
* ItAmusedMe: In the various after-story comics involving her, it's shown that the heavy isolation from being stuck in the Abyss means she has taken to doing anything she can to sate her insanity-inducing boredom. One such method is filling every room of her palace with tentacles, purely for the sheer potential hilarity of seeing somebody like the Helltaker being grabbed and manhandled by them.
* LittleBitBeastly: Her hair is shaped like a fly's head, with the messy bits sticking out being rather like a fly's bristles.
* MilkingTheGiantCow: While not the LargeHam Judgement is, Beelzebub seems to possess a flair for the dramatic herself, considering that after revealing her humanoid form she poses dramatically while finishing saying her titles and officially welcoming the Helltaker.
* TheOlderImmortal: Like Lucifer, Beelzebub has white horns which mark a demon as being very old and very powerful compared to other demons.
* ShoutOut: Her title of 'The Queen Crimson' brings to mind [[Music/KingCrimson a similarly-named band]].
* SweetTooth: In the secret ending, she states that all demons love sugar but it's especially prominent with her as you buy her affections with a plate of chocolate pancakes. Rather appropriate for the patron demon of [[VillainousGlutton Gluttony]].
-->'''Beelzebub:''' [[FlatJoy This is the best day of my life.]]
* TimeAbyss: WordOfGod has it that demons' horns whiten with age, but very, very slowly. That Beelzebub and Lucifer have white horns shows how exceedingly old they are in comparison to the other demons.
* UnreliableNarrator: She brings up the question of whether or not she's telling the truth in her narration at the end of the secret ending. She also suggests that she isn't telling the story to the player, but to an amnesiac Helltaker trapped in the Abyss with her, or possibly no-one at all, having gone insane from the isolation. Either way, she doesn't give a straight answer.

Subject 667 (also known as "Subject 67") is an experimental demon-human hybrid created by Loremaster, and TheProtagonist of ''Examtaker.''
----
* NinetiesAntiHero: He plays this archetype far straighter than the Helltaker ever did, being a huge, muscular and cartoonishly AxCrazy {{Jerkass}} in red who's confrontational to everyone he meets, primarily motivated by revenge, and oh yeah, ''he's a human-demon hybrid.'' Though, given what he is and who have done this to him, it's not hard to see why he's so psychotic.
* AndYourRewardIsClothes: An unorthodox and most literal example. After braving really difficult puzzles and a positively ''murderous'' FinalBoss, his reward is [[TrademarkFavoriteFood Apple Pie]] and a fancy suit.
* ArtificialHybrid: Created by Loremaster as a combination of Demon (based off appearances, a Skeleton, to be specific) and Human through unknown means.
* AxCrazy: While his [[MadScientist creator]] did make a pretty poor first impression, in almost every line he declares his desire to gruesomely murder her. This was likely deliberate, and only apple pies manage to calm him down.
* BadassInANiceSuit: An unusual example since he gets the suit (and doesn't like it) after completing the trials given by Loremaster.
* BodyHorror: His body is covered in stitches and patches of (presumably bloody) flesh, and he's implied to be in no small amount of pain due to his nature.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Though at first glance he looks essentially like a demonic equivalent to the Helltaker, his actual personality is very different. The Helltaker has a FaceOfAThug and an aggressive side but is [[RealMenWearPink mostly genial, loving, and forgiving]]. 667, meanwhile, is far more wrathful and violent, and actively threatens Loremaster with death, something the Helltaker never considered even when dealing with the most vicious and cruel demons. That said, [[{{Determinator}} he does share the Helltaker's incredibly strong will]] and surprising cleverness, which makes Lucifer rather curious.
* {{Determinator}}: Like the Helltaker, the thing that makes Subject 67 manage going through all of Loremaster's tests is his outstanding willpower.
* FragileSpeedster: He's even more fragile than the Helltaker, who could at least pass through spikes in most of the level with only a bit of extra will loss, since contact with any of the hazards kills him instantly. He also needs to be fast and agile in order to go through the BulletHell of some of the levels, especially the FinalBoss.
* FrankensteinsMonster: He's an artificial fusion of creatures created by a MadScientist, and between the screws in his neck and the stitches around his body it's quite clear where Loremaster got the idea from.
* HandwrapsOfAwesome: To fit in with his rather FrankensteinsMonster-esque nature and mixing in with his aggressiveness, his hands are covered with bandages that leave his fingers bare.
* HiddenDepths: While he greatly dislikes almost everything involving Loremaster, [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1434855838624137221 he has a fondness for cats]] which is strong enough that he finds her creating a tentacle cat abomination "acceptable" compared to the "other" tentacly {{Eldritch Abomination}}s she's apparently made.
* HybridMonster: He's an artificial genetic fusion between human and demon, and his appearance looks like a monstrous combination of the Helltaker and the Skeletons.
* {{Jerkass}}: While he has a compulsion towards [[AxCrazy murderous violence]] against anything that makes him angry, especially the very existence of his creator, Loremaster, even when calm and interacting with people he doesn't immediately want to kill, like Lucifer and Justice, he's still surly, morose, and very abrasive. This is still very understandable, since the strong implication that [[TragicMonster he exists against his will in a constant state of agony]] would turn anyone into a near-permanent asshole.
* NumberOfTheBeast: Specifically acknowledged in-story as something Loremaster thinks will make him more successful... until Lucifer reminds her that he's 667, with 666 having already died.
* RealityWarper: When Loremaster comments that she is surprised that Subject 667 keeps passing all her tests, he comments that [[MediumAwareness he "can always skip puzzles from the menu."]]
* RedIsViolent: His skin is crimson and he's ''very'' confrontational.
* ScannableMan: He has what looks like a barcode smack-dab in the middle of his forehead.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He more or less exists so that ''Examtaker'' can have a Helltaker-esque protagonist without having to interfere with Beelzebub's ending.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He's utterly obsessed with apple pies, completely dropping his murderous aggression towards Loremaster when given some. This was actually deliberately engineered into him, since possessing such an insatiable craving for them that forces him into subservience under a decently good baker is Loremaster's way of making him easily controllable.
* WeaksauceWeakness: He's incredibly powerful, able to take down a huge robot many times his own size. However, he loves apple pies so much that anybody who offers him one is able to control him quite easily. This is [[JustifiedTrope deliberate however]], as it is stated in the art book that, to nullify this anger, Loremaster [[CrazyPrepared programmed him (and possibly previous subjects)]] with a weakness to apple pies, completely mollifying them.
* YouRemindMeOfX: In the ending, Lucifer tells him that he reminds her of a man she used to know, causing her to wonder how he's doing. She's obviously referring to the Helltaker.

----
* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: It's implied that she is not popular among her subjects; she fondly speaks of Lucifer as "my best girl" for ''only'' trying to assassinate her at least twice a week, and Subject 667 just flat-out hates Loremaster. (Justice doesn't seem to mind her much, though.)
* AchievementsInIgnorance: She somehow took over Hell in the TimeSkip to the ''Examtaker'' chapter while believing [[ImplausibleDeniability she's still on her research project]] and [[FailedASpotCheck still an angel]].
* AffablyEvil: Despite being the antagonist and arguably one of the most threatening characters around, she maintains her polite, cheerful, dorky personality and is quick to give compliments and encouragement. She even refuses to begrudge Lucifer for trying to assassinate her at least twice a week, and when Lucifer openly mocks Loremaster, the only condition Loremaster gives is that Lucy ask permission first.
* AmbiguouslyBi: On the one hand, she's ''[[TransparentCloset Azazel]],'' made Lucifer her maid, and calls her "my best girl," but on the other, she calls Subject 67 a "handsome specimen" with a "delicious body."
* AnArmAndALeg: In spite of saying how easy to conquer Hell was, she still lost both arms and now uses cybernetic prosthetics in their place.
* AnimeHair: Her hair looks fairly normal until you notice that the sides of her haircut are shaped like squares, sharp angles and all.
* AntagonistTitle: It's a bit subtle and only implied, but the bonus chapter has her become the new "Helltaker," though unlike ''THE'' Helltaker who did so through romantically "conquering" Hell and "taking" it with him to Earth, Loremaster ''literally'' conquered Hell and "took" it for herself.
* ArtificialLimbs: While at first glance they can potentially look like really futuristic gloves, her character notes mention that sometime during the TimeSkip she actually lost both of her arms in her efforts to take over Hell, using her newfound scientific prowess to create cybernetic replacements for them.
* AssassinOutclassin: Lucifer tries to assassinate her ''twice'' per week. The fact she's still around (and being [[EasilyForgiven surprisingly nonchalant towards said assassination attempts]]) should make it clear how dangerous she really is.
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: Given the kind of place Hell is, it's heavily implied through both the chapter and concept art descriptions that she had to fight practically every demon and force them to submit in order to become the true ruler of Hell. It wasn't as easy as she claims since she [[AnArmAndALeg lost both of her real arms]] in her efforts and required [[ArtificialLimbs new ones]], but she succeeded in gaining the title, along with making Lucifer and Justice her servants.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Based on what is said by both Loremaster and Lucifer about her ascent to the throne, a decently big part of how Loremaster managed to conquer Hell was because of her dedication to her research, resulting in Loremaster being able to fully understand almost anything demonkind could do to try and stop her. It wasn't foolproof, since she still needed to make them submit by force and facing the entire LegionsOfHell alone was taxing enough she [[AnArmAndALeg lost both of her arms]], but her ability to know what makes everybody tick and how to break them helped her succeed.
* BecomingTheMask: Loremaster exists as Azazel's "disguise" to enter and better study demons. After overthrowing the CEO of Hell and ruling to the events of ''Examtaker'', the disguise is here to stay.
* BigBad: Loremaster is the one who is running the deadly experiments on sin that Subject 667 is trapped in. Thus, she's the main antagonist of the ''Examtaker'' DLC.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: The entire vibe of ''Examtaker'' is hugely different due to Loremaster's presence and influence acting as a major contrast from former Hell-ruler Lucifer:
** Lucifer is a very old demon; Loremaster is a very young one.
** Lucifer's Hell is warm-colored, grungy, run-down, and medieval; Loremaster's Hell is cold-colored, sterile, precise, and technological.
** Lucifer is very prim-and-proper and reserved; Loremaster is more overtly goofy and enthusiastic.
** Lucifer turns out to have [[DefrostingIceQueen a kind side]] and a sense of real empathy; Loremaster comes across as borderline deranged and obsessive, and her goofy attitude belies her side that cares only for her research.
** Lucifer never directly opposed the Helltaker and in fact tried to protect him from Judgement, even if [[NoRespectGuy her efforts were defied quite easily]]; Loremaster is personally responsible for all the suffering Subject 67 goes through, and despite everybody else's efforts her torturous experiments are successfully pulled off.
** Lucifer was the demon closest to the Helltaker and still remembers him fondly; Loremaster seemingly cares nothing for him, with her as Azazel following the Helltaker simply for the benefits of extending her "[[CovertPervert research]]" regarding the demons.
* CoolShades: Part of her new attire includes a pair of red transparent goggle-like shades, adding to her MadScientist persona while also making her look extra badass. Considering [[MadScientist her personality]], they also double as SinisterShades.
* CovertPervert: It's Azazel, after all. When she subjugated the two most powerful demons in Hell, what did she do? Turned them into [[{{Meido}} maids, of course!]] She also still gets jittery and sweaty, like a thirsty adolescent as Lucifer notes, when she sees something even mildly suggestive.
* TheDarkSideWillMakeYouForget: Loremaster claims at one point to have perfectly researched and catalogued all the sins in existence ''ten times over,'' and is currently in the process of creating entirely new demons. It's pretty clear that whatever useful information she could gain from her studies was wrung out long ago.
* DyeHard: Not her hair, since [[MysticalWhiteHair that turned white thanks to her fall from grace]]. Instead, she paints her horns white to make herself look like an elder demon.[[invoked]]
* EyeColorChange: Back when she was Azazel, she had blue eyes. Her fall from grace turned them [[RedEyesTakeWarning red]].
* EasilyForgiven:
** She spends most of the DLC forcing Subject 667 to undertake various tests where one wrong move instantly kills him, and the subject repeatedly states a desire to kill her for creating him, but when she offers him apple pie after he gets there, he decides that enjoying some baked goods is better than killing her and lets her live. Though this is actually subverted as he still wants to kill her, but his compulsive love for apple pies means so long as he gets a steady supply of them, he will become unwillingly subservient.
** She herself has this view towards Lucifer in regards to her being TheStarscream, even seeing it as a positive that the former queen limits herself to "only" attempting assassinations twice a week. Granted, it's implied this is due to Loremaster not even seeing Lucifer as a threat, as she can counter anything Lucifer throws at her with ease.
* FallenAngel: This is Azazel after her fall from grace is complete, becoming not only a demon, but the full-fledged overlord of Hell. She even took it from Lucifer, saying it was "surprisingly easy" to turn her into a servant. In spite of her demonic descent, Loremaster still insists that she's an angel, reaching ImplausibleDeniability about how this is all ForScience.
* FemaleGaze: She calls Subject 667 a "handsome specimen" with her first line of dialogue, and later says that she wants to put that "delicious body" through even more trials.
* ForScience: Her dedication to study demons evolves into full-blown experimentation on demons and humans for the sole sake of better understanding demonkind, with zero concerns about how morally bankrupt she's become. ''Examtaker'' is after she's fallen so far, she's willing to create a human-demon hybrid so she could sin against creation itself. Loremaster justifies all this to herself by believing that [[ImplausibleDeniability she's still an angel in spite of all the obvious signs that she's a demon]], and that it's all for the sake of her research. Even the one moment of clarity that Loremaster seems to have about her "missing" halo is [[IgnoredEpiphany brushed aside]].
* FromNobodyToNightmare: As Azazel, she was originally just a rank-and-file angel who simply wanted to conduct research about demons. But the corruptive influence from being in their presence eventually made her turn into Loremaster, an incredibly dangerous demon who took over Hell and is even able to cow Lucifer into serving her through fear. Her growth rate is exceptionally noteworthy given how she is still not an elder demon as her horns are still black, yet both demons that directly serve her are white-horned elder demons.
* FutureBadass: Azazel is nothing particularly special as angels go, is more-or-less irrelevant to the plot of the original game, and tends to be a ButtMonkey in the webcomics. Loremaster is quite possibly the most successful demon in history, and is the BigBad of ''Examtaker''.
* GoneHorriblyRight: Lucifer deliberately encouraged Azazel's fall from grace, only for it to work ''far'' better than intended with Azazel becoming Loremaster, ascending to the top of Hell's hierarchy, and later overthrowing Lucifer before making the former CEO of Hell her personal maid. [[HoistByTheirOwnPetard Lucy only has herself to blame for giving her future usurper the push she needed]].
* HellHasNewManagement: Sometime after becoming a true FallenAngel and turning into a demon, she took over Hell, displaced Lucifer, and rechristened herself as Loremaster. She ended up [[AnArmAndALeg losing both of her arms]] for her efforts, but she managed to succeed, with Lucifer [[MadeASlave turned into her unwilling maid]], something she hates and does her best to try killing Loremaster for. By the time that ''Examtaker'' starts, all of Hell has been converted into one big science experiment for Loremaster, all for the sake of understanding sin in all of its possible depths.
* IgnoredEpiphany: After claiming that [[ImplausibleDeniability her angelic halo is just in her other coat]], Loremaster appears to have a moment where she remembers that she lost her halo after becoming a FallenAngel. However, she quickly brushes it off.
* ImplausibleDeniability: Loremaster's denial that she's fallen into temptation is so great that she repeatedly insists that she's definitely still an angel. Those red eyes, long horns, forked tail, MysticalWhiteHair, and the fact that she's ''currently ruling Hell'' for the sake of examining sin in all of its depths, even experimenting with human-demon hybrids for the sake of sinning against creation itself? Just a disguise, and all for her research! She's even still got her halo! (It's in her other coat pocket, so you can't see it right now.)
* LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine: To compliment her MadScientist persona and "Science Demon" title, her new outfit includes an unbuttoned white labcoat.
* LightIsNotGood: While she does add some demonic black to her wardrobe through her suit, she still has the highest amount of white among the cast in her color scheme, including her [[WhiteHairBlackHeart hair]], painted-white horns, white LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine, and mostly-white ArtificialLimbs. While she still ''[[ObliviouslyEvil thinks]]'' she's a case of LightIsGood, she's very much become a true FallenAngel willing to torture and torment people for the sake of her WellIntentionedExtremist efforts, which is represented well by how her demonic-black suit is covered by the angelic-white lab coat.
* MadScientist: In her pursuit of increasing her understanding of demons, she's taken to conducting torturous experiments where she creates {{Hybrid Monster}}s based on demonic essence in order to see what new things can be learned about demons beyond the ones that already exist.
* MeaningfulRename: While her original name Azazel fit well due being based on a Biblical FallenAngel, after becoming so engrossed in her research efforts she decided to take over Hell to learn more, she rechristened herself as "Loremaster," a MadScientist who has SeenItAll in regards to everything that already exists about sin and demonkind, and decided to expand her efforts into making new "demon lore" to research.
* MoralMyopia: Sure, she'll admit to committing countless atrocities, but remember, her actions are ultimately acceptable when an angel does it, and she's [[ImplausibleDeniability definitely still an angel, and not a deluded demon]].
* ObliviouslyEvil: She's still under the impression that she's an angel, despite having fallen long ago, and just sees the entire thing as one big experiment. It reaches levels of ImplausibleDeniability when she insists this, as Loremaster is very clearly evil, torturing her experiments in death games and uncaring about what happens to them.
* ObliviousToHatred: The people who don't like her don't make it a secret, and yet the blatant hatred always seems to fly right over Loremaster's head. Lucifer in particular tries to kill Loremaster at least twice a week, yet Loremaster still refers to Lucifer as her "best girl."
* OhCrap: While it's combined with excitement at his power, she does seem to be a little scared of Subject 67 when he completes the sixth test, and repeatedly offers him [[TrademarkFavoriteFood apple pie]] and anything else he'd want (except Lucifer) to get him to calm down.
* OpaqueLenses: After Subject 667 completes the last trial against the FinalBoss, Loremaster strikes a triumphant pose with her arms out, and her SinisterShades turning an opaque red.
* ReverseArmfold: As the above picture shows, Loremaster does this quite a lot, befitting a FallenAngel MadScientist who tortures her creations ForScience.
* SheWhoFightsMonsters: Loremaster has become so obsessed with studying sin and demons that, upon learning every single thing there was to know about sin and demons, she decided to create new sins and new demons in order to study them. Subject 667 is such an example; she created a human-demon hybrid for the sake of sinning against creation itself.
* SlasherSmile: In contrast to the (mostly) innocent and excited smiles [[PerpetualSmiler she would almost always wear]] as an angel, half the time she's smiling as Loremaster comes off as disturbing, especially with how wide the grins can get.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: She's convinced her end goal is the eventual cure of all sin. What separates angels and demons, in her view, is that angels have good intentions behind their actions. Nevermind how her current intentions are a far cry of her initial motive behind exploring Hell.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: She's still conducting research for better understanding demons in the hopes of uniting Heaven, Hell, and Earth, but becoming a demon has made her lose enough sight of her morals that she's willing to create horrific {{Artificial Hybrid}}s that she puts through torturous and potentially deadly experiments for the sake of her efforts. Loremaster even seeks to "sin against creation itself" by creating the ultimate hybrid of human and demon, which Subject 667 proves to be after passing her tests. She's also so convinced what she's doing is right that [[ObliviouslyEvil she doesn't understand how utterly evil her actions are]].
* WhosLaughingNow: The other demons used to treat Azazel as naïve, silly, or a plaything that {{The Corrupter}}s of the group could toy with. In the ''Examtaker'' timeline, Loremaster has not only become a greater threat than any demon before her, but also stolen the throne from Lucifer and forced her to be a maid. Loremaster even says "they underestimated my curiosity" while giving a [[GlowingEyesOfDoom glowing-eyed]] stare with a SlasherSmile at Lucifer, who can't even respond to Loremaster's taunting except with a pained grimace.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: While she is indeed a good bit older than when she was Azazel, since a decently long time passed during the TimeSkip, it hasn't actually been long enough for her horns to turn white naturally. She deliberately paints them white to give her the ''appearance'' of an elder demon.
