!!!''Manga/{{Beelzebub}}'' provides examples of the following tropes:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:A]]
%%* AbsurdlyPowerfulStudentCouncil: The Six Knights of St. Ishiyama.
* AccidentalKiss: One happens between Hilda and Baby Beel in Chapter 176, which [[spoiler:makes Hilda revert back to her post-memory loss personality]].
* AccidentalMisnaming: Izo calling Oga 'Madason'. In his defence, Oga did originally introduce himself like this.
* AccidentalTruth: The Akuma Academy story that Furuichi told the rest of the delinquents, when [[spoiler:an ''actual'' Akuma Academy was introduced]].
%%* ActionGirl: Hilda, Kunieda and the entire Red Tails gang.
* ActuallyThatsMyAssistant:
** Oga thinks Lamia is the imperial doctor, and she plays along with it, until the ''real'' doctor comes and smacks her for trying to hog the spotlight.
** A more minor variant is when Izo mistakes Tojo for the leader of the delinquents due to the fact that he's the strongest of the Tōhōshinki.
* ACupAngst: Aoi; her chest bothers her slightly, particularly when she's compared to Hilda. The other Red Tail girls seem to feel the same way during their [[HotSpringsEpisode communal bath]].
--> '''[[DirtyOldMan Koma]]:''' Calm down. Whether they're massive or itty bitty, I love all tits.\
'''Aoi:''' {{I|tsPersonal}}TTY BITTY!?
* AdoptivePeerParent: What most human characters think Oga is. However, none of the demons ever point out that it's weird a teenager got chosen to foster Beel.
* AdultsAreUseless:
** When hearing about Oga's involvement in a gang war, his mother says "You got in another fight? Seriously? Well, I guess you'll take care of it".
** There's also the fact that everyone just assumes Oga and Kunieda are teen parents, without actually trying to get the details straight.
** Saotome starts getting hit with this, since while he'll teach the kids, you have to wonder why he, the man Behemoth described as a OneManArmy, doesn't ever even try to help them out when say, [[spoiler:Lucifer]] shows up.
* AffectionateParody: Of tournament arcs (especially at the end of the En arc), standard shonen, and delinquent-based stories.
** The volleyball match is one big homage to sports manga. This is especially obvious in the anime, with the liberal use of [[JapaneseVisualArtsTropes anime effects]] and dramatic, rousing music.
* AliensSpeakingEnglish: This is lampshaded by Furuichi, who believes that Japanese is the native language of the Demon World simply because all the demons he's encountered can speak it fluently. Chapter 226 tells us that this is not the case, and reveals that the majority of demons use TranslatorMicrobes to communicate. Hilda is actually the only person to play this trope straight, since she took the time to physically learn various Earth languages.
* AllPartOfTheShow: When the [[MakesSenseInContext magical girl group]], [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg along with Oga and Furuichi]], crash a theme park show and start fighting [[CreepyCrossdresser a bunch of hideous cross dressing delinquents]], all the audience does is comment on how intense the show is getting.
** At the end of the St. Ishiyama arc, Izuma convinces the student population that Teimo storming the school was a battle demonstration and Oga's demon powers were special effects.
* AlwaysInClassOne: ''All'' the characters that come from Ishiyama are in the same class ([[InvertedTrope 3F]]) when they transfer to St Ishiyama, freshman, junior, or senior status be damned. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded by several people.]]
-->'''Hilda:''' Isn't it weird that they're in the same class as Oga?\
'''Kanzaki:''' What I want to know is... why the hell are you guys in that same class as me?
* AlwaysSecondBest: The Upstart arc shows that Kanzaki has major issues with being seen as a lesser delinquent to Oga. His attempts to prove himself as Oga's equal lead him and Furuichi right into [[spoiler:Nasubi's]] [[DefensiveFeintTrap trap]].
* AmazonBrigade: The Red Tails. Their pledge is that if you get a boyfriend, you have to leave the group.
** And then came the Red Tails' demon world counterpart made up of Pillars Agiel, Tiriel, Paimel, Fabas, and Elim.
%%* AmbiguouslyBrown: Pillar Lunana, who's somewhat of a ''ganguro'' as well.
* AmbiguouslyGay: Alaindelon. He can teleport people by splitting in two, then closing up around them. Cue the "[[DoubleEntendre you were inside me]]" innuendos. He has a daughter, but that doesn't prove anything.
** The implications that he has a crush on Furuichi have been dropping like anvils lately. The anime takes it to a whole new level.
* AmuletOfConcentratedAwesome[=/=]PowerUpFood: The milk formula in Super Milk Time. It's even got power-up levels measured in cc's!
** From a filler episode with a rare form of said milk: "Not only does it change all the Demon Milk Proteins into safe to ingest Demon Peptides, it's gone through Demon Enzyme Digestion and Demon Membrane Filtering Treatment, and with its Demon Lipid Components, chiefly Demon Middle Chain Triglycerides, its Demon Essential Fatty Acids have been Demon Strengthened, [[OverlyLongGag Demon Combining the Demon Fructooligosaccarides and Demon Nucleosides]], and more and more and more... into Demon [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment Golden Yellow]] Broth!"
** The Demon Lord's tissues, which [[spoiler:allow the user to summon a demon from Behemoth's 34 Pillar Squad. They strengthen Furuichi so much that he can even [[WorfEffect take on Oga, Miki and Tojo]]]].
* AmusingInjuries: Any time Oga beats up some random mooks, or gets beaten up by Hilda. Or he gets electrocuted.
** Furuichi. Every. Single. Time.
** The [[DirtyOldMan perverted]] Tengu that Aoi [[spoiler:partners up with.]]
* AndShowItToYou: Happens to [[spoiler:Furuichi]] at the end of Chapter 207, thanks to [[spoiler:Lucifer]].
* AndTheAdventureContinues: The epilogue starts with Oga's class' graduation, with most of his friends having previously graduated coming back for it. [[spoiler: Then we find out Oga's been romping around the demon world fighting whoever he darn well pleases and has been given custody of Beel's new little sister, Nico, and Beel knows one new word after all this time.]]
* AndYouThoughtItWasAGame: The Ishiyama gang and the online video game chapters. [[spoiler: It escalates into a full on war.]]
* AnimationBump: Probably not so significant, but the scenes containing Oga's fight with Tojo were quite well-done, and somewhat more fluid than most of the other fights before it.
* AnimeChineseGirl: Pillar Head Ananta, {{odango}} and all.
** Pillar Head Yinglong seems to be her SpearCounterpart.
* AntiAntiChrist: The story actually seems to be telling the beginnings of such a trope.
** Tamapochi gets the same treatment in Chapter 164, prompting her BreakingTheFourthWall rant.
* AntiHero: Oga, when he can be considered a hero at all.
* ArrangedMarriage: Attributing to his immense wealth, [[spoiler:Himekawa]] had been betrothed to marry [[spoiler:Kugayama]] since birth. They were childhood friends and were close, at least until [[spoiler:Kugayama outwitted Himekawa and took the Demon's Portrait]], and was further strained when [[spoiler:Himekawa ditched his old fancy academy to go to Ishiyama]]. Despite all this, she was apparently still in love with him all along.
** It gets even more complicated. [[spoiler:Kugayama]] fell in love with him during childhood, and in response her grandfather arranged the marriage. However she didn't want to reveal the fact that they were engaged to him, fearing that it would ruin the relationship they already had. [[spoiler:Himekawa]], who didn't know the identity of his fiancee (and possibly didn't know about her being a {{Bifauxnen}}), grew to value her as his OnlyFriend and thus felt betrayed when the truth came out. This is probably the reason he left the academy in the first place.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Alex, Sakaki and Miki of St. Ishiyama. [[spoiler:They get their just desserts.]]
* ArtEvolution: Oga seems to have been getting a lot more good-looking lately...
** Being his first manga, you can really see the artist developing and becoming more comfortable with his style over time. Though it hasn't changed much, it's improved greatly, becoming smoother and cleaner with a great deal more detail (particularly in backgrounds) and effects.
* ArtifactOfDeath: The Demon's Portrait, the objective of the San Marx FetchQuest, has a 50:50 chance of bringing either death or wealth to its owner.
** [[spoiler:It turns out to literally be a demon's portrait, that of Beel's mother painted by his father, it's pretty impressive considering his father's CloudCuckooLander personality.]]
* ArtificialRiverbank: A popular hang-out spot for Oga and Beel, and often where confrontations take place.
* ArtShift:
** Happens when Beel tries to imitate Oga's facial expressions.
--->'''Oga:''' That is the perfect impression of me.
** This is hilariously lampshaded by some of his classmates.
--->'''Thug:''' He looks as weak as hell...
** The third anime ending has a much softer {{shoujo}} sort of look, using block colours and, for some reason, giving Aoi red eyes instead of blue.
** Aoi is again drawn in a shoujo style during her farewell with Izo.
--->'''Izo:''' [[LampshadeHanging Did something about you... change]]?
** Oga is drawn in shoujo style in the cover of Chapter 142. It's probably done to mock the distinctly shoujo-esque revelation that [[spoiler:a TrueLovesKiss will cure Hilda's amnesia]].
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: The Tohoshinki are the ''de facto'' leaders of Ishiyama High by virtue of being the strongest delinquents out there. Later on, they recognize Oga as their new "Chief" after the latter united Ishiyama by kicking all of their asses (except Kunieda, who fell in love with him).
* AssShove: A warning for all [[spoiler:Pillar Squad]] {{mooks}}: ''Don't'' try to mess with a pissed off Oga on a mission unless you want a spear up your ass.
* AstronomicZoom: When Oga realises the after effects of Super Milk Time.
%%* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: Oh boy, Godzilla's got nothing on this.
%%** [[spoiler:Happens again in Episode 54. Especially now that there are two of them...]]
* AuthorAppeal: Considering the amount of detail he puts in when drawing them, it seems Ryuhei Tamura is a fan of motorcycles.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Hilda with both Yolda and Oga.
** After spending all her time fighting with Yolda, [[spoiler:Hilda performs a HeroicSacrifice to save her sister's life without hesitating.]]
** After Hilda [[spoiler:lost and then regained her memories,]] each subsequent arc has several scenes that show how, despite their near-constant bickering, she and Oga deeply care for and trust one another.
* AxesAtSchool: Pretty standard behavior for Ishiyama High, and considering its reputation no one really complains about the kids having stun batons, flick knives or even guns on them.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:B]]
%%* BackToBackBadasses:
%%** Oga and [[spoiler:Miki]] against Teimo.%%Are an example how?
%%** [[OldMaster Grandpa Kunieda]], [[BadassTeacher Principal Isurugi, and Mr. Saotome]] give a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown to [[spoiler:Behemoth]].%%Which is an example how?
* BadassAndBaby: In Chapter 132, [[spoiler:Beel stops a giant battle axe with his tiny [[BareHandedBladeBlock bare hands]]]].
* BadassInANiceSuit: Oga, once he gets kitted out in the San Marx uniform. The mangaka seems to like dressing him up in these on cover pages too.
%%* BadassLongcoat:
%%** The standard Red Tails uniform.%%Is what?
%%** Behemoth's Pillar Squad wear a black leather version.%%Of what?
%%* BadassTeacher: Zenjuro Saotome. Sadohara Takumi attempts to be this, but it fails miserably.
* BadlyBatteredBabysitter: Oga at the beginning when he's constantly getting electrocuted.
* BalanceOfPower: Tōhōshinki, who are the four upperclassmen gang leaders that control Ishiyama High.
** At least until Oga started unintentionally throwing everything out of whack by [[spoiler:hospitalizing 2 of the 4 and unintentionally getting the 3rd to give up her title of leader, which creates an EvilPowerVacuum that the 4th unknowningly fills until he is defeated (again by Oga).]]
** The very first teacher the kids get when they transfer to St. Ishiyama tries to use this to keep the kids in line by beating the strongest in the class in an arm wrestling match. Too bad the in guy in question is Tojo.
** Since the Ishiyama students were spread around while the school was being rebuilt, neither Oga nor the Tōhōshinki were unable to keep them all the smaller groups of Ishiyama delinquents in line. Now over ''thirty'' different groups are vying for the top spot in the rebuilt Ishiyama, the six most notable and dangerous being led by freshmen, and they all plan on taking out those who went to Saint Ishiyama first. Not only that, but since Aoi quit her leadership spot and Nene was unable to keep an eye on all of the Red Tails, some have branched out and created an entirely new group, lead by someone who Aoi knew was going to do something like this eventually.
* BaldOfEvil: The students from Teimo, most of whom apparently ''are'' bald, rather than skinheads.
* BandagedFace: Pillar Odonel, made even more poignant by the fact that the bandages are tattooed, cover his entire head and his arms are chained to his sides.
* BattleButler: Himekawa's enigmatic, hyper-competent butler Hasui, who seems to be a JackOfAllTrades.
* BattleCouple: That's what everybody ''assumes'' Oga and Hilda are.
** The Best Couple Grand Prix actively encourages this among its participants, as its main purpose is to find the best Battle Couple in St Ishiyama.
* BeachEpisode[=/=]PoolScene: Started out as the first, until Alaindelon came to forcibly shift the scene to the latter.
* BeastMan: Pillar Vabam, who is essentially a dog on two legs wearing a suit with sunglasses, guns and smoking a cigar.
* BeatPanel: In Chapter 220, the panel that comes right after [[spoiler:the Solomon Company representative almost fatally wounding Takamiya]] simply consists of most of the delinquents staring in shock.
** The Upstarts get one in Chapter 225, after Oga reveals that he's currently in... [[spoiler:America]].
* BelligerentSexualTension: Oga and [[spoiler:Hilda]] have developed this. It took them long enough.
** Yuka and Kanzaki seem to be going this way as well.
* BerserkButton: For Hilda it's insulting her cooking. She will make you eat it until you die.
%% Doesnt explain the reaction. ** Oga's appears to be either getting in the way of his fights or, surprisingly, hurting his TrueCompanions.
%% Doesnt explain the reaction. ** Don't try and out-cheat Himekawa, especially not in online gaming. Just don't.
%% Doesnt explain the reaction. ** If you value your life, ''never'' touch Kanzaki's facial piercings.
* BerserkerTears: When Baby Beel or En cry [[ShockAndAwe bad thi]][[PlayingWithFire ngs happen]].
* BettyAndVeronica: Although Oga doesn't really care that much about either of them, romance-wise, Aoi (who is dark-haired) would fit as Betty while the blonde Hilda would be the Veronica. Likewise, the Betty for Beel would be Chiyo, with Futaba as the Veronica.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Kaoru from the Red Tails.
** [[spoiler:Kugayama]] is revealed to be one, even wearing a male uniform.
* BigBad: The Tohoshinki for the first few arcs, then Izuma for the St. Ishiyama arc, then Behemoth for the Akuma Academy arc, then Kugayama for the San Marx arc, then the Upstarts for the Return to Ishiyama arc.
* BigDamnHeroes: Natsume seems to have turned this into a habit, though his intentions still aren't entirely clear.
** In Chapter 135, practically [[spoiler:THE ENTIRE DAMN SCHOOL]]. Might be a [[SubvertedTrope subversion]]. Sure they certainly have a big damn ''entrance'', but the games they were supposed to complete get overridden by Jabberwock and his personal Pillars hold them up so they don't manage to interfere with his and Oga's showdown. Overall, they do zilch. Lampshaded repeatedly afterwards.
--> '''Kaoru:''' We didn't get to do much in the last fight.\
'''Izuma:''' You [[spoiler:burnt down the school]] pretty quickly after we arrived.\
'''Shizuka:''' Us arriving was supposed to be the big climax!
** In Episode 55, Kanzaki saves Himekawa from a sticky situation by [[ItMakesSenseInContext passing him his hair gel]].
** Kanzaki gets another one in Chapter 216, after he [[spoiler:gets powered up by Beel]]. Though it's subverted, as the main reason he joins the fight is to [[spoiler:get information on where the power sealing device is]], rather than to bail out the other delinquents.
* BigFancyCastle: [[spoiler:Ishiyama (now called the {{Alliterative|Name}} and PunnyName of Akuma Academy]], a.k.a Demon / Devil Academy) becomes this after Behemoth takes over and rebuilds it.]]
* BigFancyHouse: Kanzaki lives in one, due to his father being a {{Yakuza}} head. More surprisingly, [[spoiler:Nene]] also has one, the unexpectedness of which is repeatedly lampshaded.
* BigOlEyebrows: En has particularly bushy ones. They don't even match his hair.
** Baby Beel's "agitated" face.
* BigWhat: When Lamia and Furuichi find out that [[spoiler:Hilda and Yolda are siblings]].
* BilingualBonus: Hilda and Yolda's names can be taken to mean "it's noon" (Hiru-da/昼だ) and "it's night" (Yoru-da夜だ).
* BishieSparkle[=/=]LoveBubbles: Beel gets both while he is acting like Oga.
** Mr. Saotome becomes very [[LoveBubbles bubbly]] when encouraging the delinquents to speak with the principal.
--->'''[[OnlySaneMan Furuichi]]:''' What the hell is this?!
** HIMEKAWA. In the anime, the sparkles seem to be automatic and multiply the moment he does... well, ''anything''.
** Furuichi after discovering [[spoiler:the power of the Demon Lord's tissues]]. Like in all other appearances of the trope, it's lampshaded.
--->'''Nene:''' ...Your complexion doesn't look too good.
* BeautifulAllAlong: After getting his hairstyle changed and [[TheGlassesGottaGo shades removed]] forcefully, ''Himekawa''. None of the other characters even recognised him!
* BizarroEpisode[[invoked]]: Episode 49 A.K.A the New Year's Special: "Baby Beel's Journey To The West".
--> '''Oga''': [[BreakingTheFourthWall But you gotta do a special for New Year's!]]\
'''Furuichi''': [[BreakingTheFourthWall Don't you people have an inkling of creativity?]] [[LampshadeHanging This is as cliche a New Year thing as you can get!]]
* BlackSpeech: Baby Beel briefly speaks in what is apparently demon language after tapping deeper into his powers.
* BlandNameProduct: [=PS2=] = Play Stephany 2. In the manga the 2 is flipped to make a 5 - a good decade and a half before the actual Platform/PlayStation5 entered the market.
** Averted when Oga and Furuichi are explicitly playing on the Wii Fit.
** Pockini instead of Pocky.
** The Ishiyama Gang, in search of Lord En, goes into Himekawa's place and plays ''[[DeepImmersionGaming End of War 4]]'', which is ''[[BlatantLies certainly not ]]'' a ShoutOut to a [[VideoGame/ModernWarfare certain spinoff]] of a [[VideoGame/CallOfDuty successful FPS Franchise]] by Creator/{{Activision}}.
* BlatantLies: The opening lines, as narrated by Oga.
** While on the plane to Okinawa, Shinjo asks why the Ishiyama group look so serious and angry, to which Oga replies that they're excited. Tojo tells him to shut up in case they're looked down upon. He seems raring to go.
** Oga introducing himself and Beel to Izo as [[VideoGame/DragonQuestV Madason and Nimzo.]] It takes [[IdiotHero Izo]] a while to realize he's been duped.
---> '''Izo:''' [[LateToThePunchline I see...]] [''{{beat}}''] WAIT THAT'S A LIE!
* BlazingInfernoHellfireSauce: Every [[MasochistsMeal Demon World recipe]] prepared by Hilda has to have a squirt or two of this.
* BlindWithoutEm: The [=MK5=] become the [=MK4=] when one of their members steps on his glasses and therefore cannot see a thing. The ridiculousness of this is pointed out by the other characters.
* BloodbathVillainOrigin: [[spoiler:Takamiya's origin]] is a slightly downplayed version of this; he became the angsty, screwed up person he is today after [[spoiler:Lucifer left his father and his coworkers comatose shortly after he formed a contract with her]]. The visuals ''aren't'' downplayed, however, so it comes off as this played absolutely straight.
* BloodFromTheMouth: Apparently a result of extreme emotional trauma more than anything.
** Happens to Furuichi, Hilda, and Oga [[spoiler:in Beel's body]] when Baby Beel [[spoiler:in Oga's body chooses Aoi over Hilda]].
** Happens again in Chapter 168 when Oga tries to do a comedic bit [[spoiler:mimicking Kugayama as she revealed her true gender and love for Himekawa]] and Himekawa [[spoiler:when he learns of Kugayama's true feelings for him]].
** Happens far more seriously [[spoiler:to Furuichi in Chapter 207 when he is stabbed and has his heart ripped out by Lucifer]]. And then again to [[spoiler:Oga, [[BroughtDownToNormal after being sealed from Beel's power]]]], who outright vomits the stuff out. Aoi also gets in on the action, after [[spoiler:combining the powers of the King's Crest and her Black Tech to launch a last ditch attack after Oga's powers fail]].
* BloodKnight: Oga, Tojo, Agiel, and possibly Baby Beel himself.
** Izo seems to avert this, as he tends to beat up his own gang members for starting fights rather than retaliating against the opposing side and is the only character in the series so far to ''turn down a fight'' against Tojo. The only reason he's even at Oga's throat is because he sees him as a rival for Aoi's affections.
* BloodOath: It is revealed that to make a full contract with a demon, the demon must consume some of the potential contractor's blood.
* BloodUpgrade: Baby Beel, who will electrocute everyone in the vicinity at the mere sight of blood, whether it's his or not.
* BlueWithShock[=/=]SweatDrop[=/=]CrossPoppingVeins[=/=]AlertnessBlink[=/=]ColorFailure: Used with great frequency by most characters, but particularly Oga, Furuichi and Kunieda. The anime takes it to new levels.
* BodyguardCrush: From the way she blushes around him, it can be assumed Pillar Lunana feels this way about Jabberwock.
* BodyHorror: Don't let Baby Beel get too excited... [[spoiler:your arm might explode.]]
* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: Oga's ''boke'' to Furuichi's ''tsukkomi''. The series even plays on this from the very start of the first chapter/first episode.
** This is switched around in Oga's dream sequence, where Oga plays the role of the straight man to everybody else's absurdity.
* BookDumb: Apparently all of Ishiyama High. They "hate studying 180 percent!" and Furuichi got the highest on the standardized test (a 59). And as Furuichi mentioned earlier, the test was on ''elementary school subjects.''
** Moves into InformedFlaw territory for some of the delinquents. In particular Natsume and Himekawa are shown to be very intelligent in other episodes (though Natsume didn't seem to study and Himekawa still cheated on the test like everyone else). It was probably just RuleOfFunny at work, though.
* BookEnds: The Okinawa trip both starts and ends with Alex being roped in to deal with the delinquents' holiday shenanigans.
* {{Bowdlerise}}: In the original manga, one of [=MK5=] pulled a gun on Nene and seemed about to shoot her. The anime changes it to having him prepare to punch her, which made her reaction of despair pretty uncalled for. Also, the way Natsume takes out the whole gang in the manga is far more violent and involves a lot of blood, whereas the anime version just cuts to them lying unconscious at his feet.
** Basically all of the blood was removed, even though the manga isn't that gory and blood is only shed when things become really dangerous. It looks plain ridiculous when Oga can get stabbed in the side with a spear and come away with nothing but a ripped shirt.
** Animax-South East Asia actually had ALL anime episodes edited for re-broadcast in the region with Baby Beel '''wearing a diaper'''.
* {{Brainwashed}}: Pillar Head Salamander tries to do this to Oga and Tojo. [[spoiler:It fails.]]
* BrattyHalfPint: Lamia. Though Furuichi just thinks she's {{tsundere}}.
** En and Futaba too, as the former is a prince who's used to being spoiled while the latter is simply a SpoiledBrat.
* BreakingTheFellowship: Occurs in Chapter [[spoiler:231]], after Oga chooses to [[spoiler:let Beel go back to the Demon World with his mother]].
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Though several characters endanger it, Kanzaki outright smashes the fourth wall when he complains about being given a tiny panel while trying to make a dramatic speech.
** Tojo turns up during a dream sequence in Chapter 124 and mentions that he's been OutOfFocus lately. The others reply that he's out-of-character and it's been so long no one even remembers him any more.
** Furuichi does this after the ending animation in Episode 33.
** In the beginning of Episode 43, after waking up from his first KangarooCourt dream, an annoyed Oga [[QuipToBlack asks to get to the opening already]].
** Happens quite a bit in the ''[[DeepImmersionGaming End of War 4]]'' episodes, particularly Nene who wonders why her avatar is still alive when she died oh-so dramatically in the previous episode. Also, Natsume takes a peek at the chainsaw carnage done on Shiroyama and cheerfully announces that they can't show it to viewers.
** In Episode 54, [[spoiler:Giant Baby Beel starts to tear off Giant Black Baby Beel's wings]] and Furuichi declares that they can't show that on TV, with the animation replaced by a scene with Alaindelon.
** When Oga ruins Furuichi's fantasy in Chapter 146.
--->'''Furuichi:''' '''''DIE!''''' Apologise to all the readers and '''''DIE!''''' [[ItMakesSenseInContext Why the hell would we go all the way to Okinawa to see monsters?!]]
** In Chapter 160 some thugs call out Oga when he starts an introductory InnerMonologue about how he's an OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent.
** Tamapochi in Chapter 164, after Oga avoids her attack.
--->'''Tamapochi:''' Please read the mood! That was the scene where you get hit and start spurting blood!
** Oga in Chapter 173 when [[spoiler:he and Furuichi finally start their fight after several pages of small talk]].
--->'''Oga:''' Stop wasting panels, goddammit!
** When Tojo and Shizuka get introduced for their Best Couple Grand Prix challenge in Chapter 182, they have a massive panel dedicated to them. Cut to their opponents, a minor background couple, who are complaining about their (much smaller) panel.
** Himekawa accidentally dropping Kamiya off a hotel roof.
--->'''Lackey:''' Thank God, it looks gag-like.
** When Takamiya fights [[spoiler:Furuichi]], he talks about the tendency for manga characters to get a [[EleventhHourSuperpower convenient power-up]] when pushed into a corner. Then, after he's [[spoiler:beaten Furuichi half to death]], he says it would make for a good manga-like scenario wherein Oga gets revenge.
** The way Yuka introduces Natsume and Jinno when they arrive to help Kanzaki fight Himekawa.
--->'''Yuka:''' Natsume and Jinno are here! Nobody knows if these two are weak or strong; they're totally mysterious!
* BrickJoke:
** General Furuichi. During the Volleyball incident, Furuichi was included because he is obviously the mastermind and leader of these punks. [[spoiler:Later on he has to recruit them all to help him, and succeeds. He really does become their leader, if only for a time.]]
** He seems to be fully stepping into this role by the Upstart arc, to the point where's he's the one planning the delinquents' counterattack against the upstarts. [[spoiler:Hecadoth even addresses him as 'Tactician' when he's summoned.]]
** When Tojo first learns about demons he starts thinking about bears, [[{{Pun}} due to the words for "demon" (''akuma'') and "bear" (''kuma'') sounding the same in Japanese.]] When we meet him again, [[spoiler:he's calling Akuma Academy "Kuma no Academy" (Bear Academy).]]
** Tojo [[ManlyTears crying]] after [[spoiler:the school he'd just finished building gets burned to the ground]].
* BridalCarry: Hilda does this to Beel [[spoiler:(in Oga's body)]] when he gets tired. However Oga [[spoiler:(in Beel's body)]] protests and ends up carrying him himself. Thank goodness Oga's strength seemed to have carried over!
--> '''Oga:''' I'd rather die than have a woman carry me.
** In more straight-up examples, Oga's also done this with Aoi and Hilda.
** [[BelligerentSexualTension After arguing with each other]] for most of the Best Couple Grand Prix three legged race, [[ShipTease Kanzaki ends up having to scoop Yuka into his arms]] and make a mad dash for the finish line in order to scrape last place.
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler:Happens to Oga during the climax of his fight with Takamiya.]]
* BullyingADragon: The punks that try and mess with Aoi's grandpa. Works about as well as one would expect.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Quite a few characters are shown to have their various quirks yet are all very competent: Oga himself is one of the strongest characters, yet carries a baby around with him. Dr. Furcas Rachmaninoff is one of the greatest demon doctors and chooses to take on the appearance of a blob wearing a fedora (his true form is vaguely shown to be rather badass). The Demon King himself is shown to be quite random and whimsical in his behaviour, yet is still, as his title implies, The Demon King.
* TheBusCameBack:
** Chapter 111 features the return of several minor characters, such as [[GoldFishPoopGang MK5]], whose sole purpose seems to be to prevent the main characters from meeting Mr. Saotome.
---> '''Oga''': Dammit. [[LampshadeHanging Each time I think things will turn over to what we want, these fodder characters keep popping up!]]
** Later arcs have the bus coming back for [[spoiler:Behemoth's 34 Pillar Squad, thanks to Furuichi summoning them with the Demon Lord's tissues]].
** Suiten reappears in Chapter 181, as she's competing in the Best Couple Grand Prix with Mr. Saotome.
** In Chapter 184, [[spoiler:Izo Aiba]] turns up just in time to become Aoi's replacement partner in the Best Couple Grand Prix.
* ButThouMust: When Oga's about to fight Tojo, Kanzaki and Himekawa offer to help gang up on Tojo. When he refuses, they respond by making the exact same offer, causing Oga to make the comparison to ''VideoGame/DragonQuest''.
* ButtMonkey: Furuichi, oh so much. He's always either getting beaten up by Oga, beaten up by someone else, electrocuted by Baby Beel, roped into Oga's crazy schemes against his will and paying far more for them than anyone else, caught in compromising situations, or rejected by the ladies, and he generally seems to have the worst luck in the world.
** In Chapter 143, Oga reveals that part of the reason he drags Furuichi everywhere because he ''thought it would be funny.'' Poor guy.
*** [[spoiler:Chapter 173 thoroughly deconstructs this when the resulting psychological problems from his poor treatment cause him to snap, to the point where he doesn't even care if he dies anymore, so long as he gets to beat Oga. It counts as a brutal case of TruthInTelevision, as the shit Furuichi gets put through would be an extremely severe case of bullying in RealLife.]]
** This is hammered home in Chapter 212, when the six parts [[spoiler:of his ''soul'']] are identified as creepichi, mobichi, loli-ichi, bitchichi, furuchin and garbage respectively.
--->'''Tojo''': [[LampshadeHanging ...don't you feel pathetic saying that about yourself?]]
** [=MK5=] is definitely one. Despite the group's status as a gang of dangerous delinquents, the only purpose they serve is to be pounded down by both protagonists and antagonists. After their first appearance, it's their ''talent'' to "be beaten in the space of one page".
** The poor guy who got hired to teach at Demon Academy. He has no idea why all his students are blatantly not high-school age, or why they have ''gills'', or why they're organized like an army, or why they take orders from a little kid. He was unemployed, so he didn't really have any choice. Luckily, he's knows not rock the boat, so he probably survived until [[spoiler:the school's destruction. Which means he needs a new job again]].
* ByThePowerOfGrayskull: The anime's MagicalGirl episode gives us "Piple Yople Pampoppin". Becomes a funny moment when [[TheComicallySerious Hilda]] is forced to say it.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:C]]
* CallingYourAttacks: Oga starts doing this during his fight with Miki. [[spoiler:They are just his ordinary attacks with impressive names.]]
** Aoi is guilty of this with her sword techniques.
** Also, CHANGED MAN PUNCH! and etc.
** Yuka does this when she get her hands on a HumongousMecha. ItMakesSenseInContext.
** Don't forget the ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann'' style FinishingMove the whole group delivers when the HumongousMecha upgrades into a CombiningMecha - DIAMOND EVIL ARROW!
** [[spoiler:Father Switch W! WOULD YOU [[PrecisionFStrike FUCKING DIE ALREADY]] KICK!! Father Switch P! THE GREAT PUNCH OF OGA!!]]
** Devil Shock, POMPADOUR SPECIAL!
** Merry ''Chrunch''mas!
* TheCavalry: The [[spoiler:34 Pillar Division]] attempt to be this during Furuichi's fight against [[spoiler:Takamiya]], but fail miserably. It's later played straight a few chapters later when the rest of the Ishiyama gang storm the school to provide backup for Oga.
* CannotSpitItOut: Aoi and her feelings for [[spoiler:Oga]]. Kumagawa [[spoiler:couldn't tell Himekawa she loved him for years]], but recently confessed.
* CasanovaWannabe: Nobody can deny Furuichi has lots of enthusiasm. His success rate, on the other hand...
** He finally gets some in Episode 53 of the anime. [[spoiler:Too bad she's a [[CuteGhostGirl ghost]] who only has eyes for the ghost that's possessing him...]]
** Later, we're introduced to Mikagami of Teimo's Shadow Force.
* CastOfSnowflakes: The massive cast of {{Mooks}} are all drawn uniquely, even those who are simply characters in the background waiting to get trounced by Oga. Quite a pleasant surprise granted they are all supposed to look like generic [[JapaneseDelinquents thugs]], but each one manages to have several distinctive features in the drawing of their facial structures, scars, tattoos and piercings, hairstyles, musculature, clothing, and accessories. Of course, the wide variety of {{delinquent}}y scars, tattoos, etc. the author can pick and choose from helps.
* CasualDangerDialogue: Sometimes. It helps that Oga is a {{Cloud Cuckoo Lander}}.
* CatapultNightmare:
** Oga does this in Episode 3 of the anime after dreaming about what a grown-up Beel might turn out like.
--->'''Oga:''' '''''[[DepopulationBomb TOTALLY WIPED OUT!]]'''''
** In Chapter 124. [[RunningGag To be frank]], it was a really messed up dream.
** Alaindelon at the end of the utterly random "Robot Oga" omake. Though he seems more confused than afraid. As are the readers.
* CatFight:
** Hilda and [[AloofDarkHairedGirl Aoi]] duke it out over who Beel likes more, in the chapter aptly titled 'Cat Fight'. [[spoiler:He chooses Aoi.]]
--->'''Hilda:''' Let's do this... [[LetsFightLikeGentlemen like women]].
** The [[invoked]][[BigLippedAlligatorMoment utter randomness of it]] is lampshaded by Oga.
--->'''Oga:''' Hey, you two. I think you're forgetting the original problem here. We're trying to get me back to normal right? [[LampshadeHanging Then why are you two fighting it out?]]
** Furuichi doesn't seem to mind though.
--->'''Furuichi:''' [''{{nosebleed}}''] What a nice scene that was...
** In Chapter 140, Nene worries that this will happen if Aoi and Hilda [[spoiler:who, due to amnesia, wholeheartedly believes she's Oga's ''wife'']] meet.
--->'''Nene:''' This is bad! If (Aoi) sees this, it'll be [[ActionGirl Dangerous Beauties]] Coliseum!
* CensorSteam: The use of this trope is ''hilariously'' lampshaded by Furuichi in Chapter 222. Fourth wall? [[BreakingTheFourthWall What's that?]]
--> '''Furuichi''': [[ButtMonkey Dammit, I can't see through the steam!!]] [[BreakingTheFourthWall When this volume is printed, they'll removed the steam, right??]]
* CerebusRetcon: Originally, it was said that the Demon King decided to destroy the human world because he was bored. Eventually it was revealed that he decided to do it [[spoiler:because his wife had just left him. Or, rather, he still wanted to do it because he was bored, it's just that normally she would have been around to stop him]].
* CharacterCatchphrase:
** "Goodnight!" Shimokawa. "DABUU!" may also count.
** "PANEEEEH!"
* CharacterTitle
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower:
** Oga, who considering he gets electrocuted on a daily basis, would be dead without it.
** Tojo and Kunieda are just as bad, being able to easily destroy concrete, throw people across rooms, break steel with their fists and run at supersonic speeds.
* ChekhovsGun: Tojo was briefly shown doing part-time work at a construction site. [[spoiler:Turns out they were building Akuma Academy, and Tojo was sleeping there when Oga turned up.]]
** The flimsy pack of tissues that Furuichi was initially furious at receiving from the Demon King as a reward [[spoiler:turn out to have incredible summoning powers]].
** The Red Tails' [[spoiler:restriction on not allowing its members to have boyfriends gets rescinded, setting the stage for Aoi's return as leader.]]
** The third crest was an obvious one, but it still manged to be surprising. [[spoiler:Himekawa reveals he had Oga's all along, but made it look like Takamiya's instead via a fake tattoo.]]
** That build up of power right after the Tojo fight that destroyed the school the first time? [[spoiler:Achieving that same buildup was Himekawa's plan all along as a FakeDefector.]]
** Remember the Father Switch moves that Oga used against Jabberwock? [[spoiler:They were his first attacks which fused the energies provided by the King's Crest and his Black Techs together. He later uses a more perfected fusion against Takamiya.]]
* ChekhovsGunman:
** Most of the apparently minor antagonists that Oga defeats early on later return to take active roles. Examples include Shimokawa, Kanzaki's Gang, Himekawa, the Red Tails, and Teimo. The anime also brings back several other denizens of Ishikawa.
** [[spoiler:Iris, Baby's Beel's mother,]] is a ''HUGE'' one. While she's first introduced in a throwaway appearance during the Demon Portrait arc, the Return to Ishiyama arc reveals that [[spoiler:she's one of the key players in the Solomon Company, meaning that she's a potential traitor to the royal court, and possibly has enough power to force six of the SevenDeadlySins into serving said company.]]
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler:Himekawa. He realized that separating Oga from Beel causes a massive power buildup, as seen in the aftermath of the Tojo fight. So he faked a FaceHeelTurn, hid his King's Crest, and got a machine that seals off Beel from Oga to achieve the exact same effect, all the while making it look like he was aiding the enemy. The second one of the spellmasters says it'd be enough power to beat Takamiya and Lucifer, Himekawa breaks the machine.]]
* ChickMagnet: Oga, for some reason, seems to be attracting a lot of girls, at least one of whom is definitely in love with him.
** Himekawa with his hair down draws a huge gang of St. Ishiyama girls to their classroom to swoon over him.
* ClassTrip: After a lot of fuss the delinquents get to go along on a field trip to Okinawa.
* ClockTower: [[BigFancyCastle Akuma Academy]] has one, which is destroyed by Oga during his fight with [[spoiler:Jabberwock]].
* CloseCallHaircut:
** Kunieda gets one at St. Ishiyama from Sakaki. But she doesn't let it faze her and quickly pays him back.
** Hilda gives one to Yolda, [[WreckedWeapon breaking her broom]] in the same hit.
--->'''Hilda:''' Try it again and I'll give you a crew cut.
* ClothingDamage: Kiriya gets all his clothes blown off (except his boxers) when Oga and Beel hit him with a lightning bolt.
** [[PantyFighter Agiel's]] BadassLongcoat gets ripped to shreds after she gets hit with one of Aoi's sword techniques.
** Aoi seems fond of doing this. Her finishing move against Ringo shreds all of Ringo's clothes except her underwear.
* CloudCuckooLander: Oga, the guy who thinks it perfectly normal to fish a dead body out of the water, only to have it split open and reveal a baby inside. Then take the baby home...
** Reinforced when he meets Aoi. She's trying to explain that Kota isn't her son, but her brother. Cut to Oga beginning a début boxing match between Baby Beel and Kota. While she was talking.
** When En addresses his "brother", Oga's first reaction is to assume he's talking to Hilda and that she's secretly a man. His next reaction is to comment on how short En is.
** [[ComicallyMissingThePoint "If I stay like this forever, then I won't be able to play the piano!"]]
** [[VillainsOutShopping "What are they doing? You can't catch crayfish in the winter, they go into hibernation!"]]
** Sometimes it's raised to new heights, like sympathizing with a girl raised as a man, saying he knows the feeling because he was raised as a man too.
--->'''[[OnlySaneMan Furuichi]]:''' That's because you ARE a man!
** "[[ComicalOverreacting Since they're worlds above me... does that mean...]] [[AlienAmongUs they're aliens]]?"
** Also Tojo as well. [[HypocriticalHumor Even Oga thinks he's weird]]. He attempted to trade a little girl some guy was holding hostage for a box of candy.
*** Although the joke was that the candy, Chinsuko from Okinawa, sounds similar to the Japanese word for "penis", so the guy holding the hostage thought he wanted to... you know... trade the girl for his penis.
** The Demon King is possibly even more random than both Oga and Tojo.
** Being one seems to be a requirement for any absolute badass. Note how the three examples here are also considered to be the strongest in the story.
* CombinationAttack: The Best Couple Grand Prix has a lot of these, since all the participants are [[BattleCouple couples]].
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Kanzaki tells Futaba that Santa's dead in the hope that she'll give up asking for presents. Instead, she immediately comes to the conclusion that Santa is screwing around with her because she's a kid and goes on the warpath.
** In Chapter 206, Mr. Saotome warns Oga not to fight [[spoiler:Takamiya and Fuji]] as they are "worlds above" him. Cue [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Oga]] jumping to the conclusion that [[AlienAmongUs they're aliens]]. Saotome then tries to pound the fact through his thick skull by drawing a diagram... only for [[IdiotHero Oga]] to misread that too.
** [[IdiotHero Oga]] [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} does this a lot.]] When the truck that he's trying to hitch a ride from gets held up by armed robbers, he ''immediately'' assumes that they're asking for a lift, and starts worrying about how they're all going to fit.
* ComicalOverreacting: Oga's reaction when the Demon Express mail carrier makes him drop his 50 yen down the drain. The next few pages has his various acts of revenge as {{funny background event}}s.
* CombatCommentator: Utterly skewered. When Oga starts calling attacks which are perfectly normal punches and kicks, Furuichi immediately starts making up bullshit to explain to the other people on the sidelines.
** Later, during the [[MundaneMadeAwesome volleyball match]], one of the two official commentators is wearing a cat costume, and is only allowed to say "meow". Whenever he tries giving genuine commentary, he is chastised by the other commentator.
* ComedicSociopathy: Pretty much everybody on the series has sociopathic tendencies - even characters who are ''not'' supposed to be delinquents. Like ''1-year-old'' toddlers.
* ContrivedCoincidence:
** At the beginning of the online video game arc, the delinquents form a complicated plan to track down En... only for Chiaki to reveal that she's been playing him the entire time.
---> '''Himekawa''': [[LampshadeHanging ...Seriously]]?
** And then later they realize [[spoiler:he's been ''in the room next door'' for the past week]].
* CookingDuel: Literally in Chapter 183.
* CoolCar: En and his maids get one thanks to Isabella's magic.
* CreepyChild:[[spoiler:Takamiya's demon Lucifer]] is revealed to have the appearance of an emotionless young girl in a gothic lolita dress.
* CreepyCrossdresser: Miwa, who wears mascara and set [=MK5=] on Kunieda because he thinks he should be the only "queen" of Ishiyama.
* CreepyDoll: Decapitation Island is ''full of them''. They're all possessed by demons and many are life-size. Luckily they're also quite stupid.
%%* CrossCounter: How Oga and [[spoiler:Takamiya's]] fight concludes.
* CrucifiedHeroShot: Happens to [[spoiler:Hilda after she is subdued]] by the Pillar Squad.
* CultureEqualsCostume: Oga invokes this is Chapter 288, when he decides that his group are to storm the [[spoiler:Solomon Company factory]] dressed in garb from the Feudal Era. While he's [[IdiotHero convinced]] this is an [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} ingenious scare tactic]], [[OnlySaneMan Furuichi]] repeatedly lampshades the fact that [[FunnyForeigner they look like fools]].
* CurbStompBattle: Pretty much every single one of Oga's fights.
** The Aoi-Izuma vs Kanzaki-Yuka Best Couple Grand Prix match in Chapter 184, where Kanzaki and Yuka are beaten in a single page.
---> '''[[CombatCommentator Commentator:]]''' [[LampshadeHanging What an incredibly short curtain fall!]]
** Aoi and Kanzaki are subjected to this at the beginning of the Upstart arc, with Aoi being beaten by a [[spoiler:splinter group of the Red Tails]] and Kanzaki being pounded into a bloody plup by [[spoiler:Nasubi]].
** Kanzaki's battle with [[spoiler:Nasubi's cronies]] seems to be heading in this direction, until he gains the [[spoiler:King's Crest]]. [[HeroicSecondWind Then it's a completely different story]].
* CustomUniform: Only two or three people actually wear the school uniform straight.
* CuteLittleFangs: Lord En. It's safe to assume little brother Baby Beel will develop these as well - as soon as he's done teething.
** In Chapter 138 [[spoiler:teething and cute little fangs on Baby Beel are confirmed!]]
* CuteMonsterGirl: Tamapochi, the guardian of the Demon's Portrait.
* CutenessProximity:
** Yuka finds [[BrattyHalfPint Futaba]] absolutely adorable. This extends to Lamia as well.
--->'''Yuka:''' She's so bratty! It's so cute!
** Tojo can't seem to help himself when it comes to small animals and babies. [[ImTakingHerHomeWithMe He immediately seeks to adopt them]].
* CuteWitch: Pillar Elim comes complete with the requisite staff and [[RobeAndWizardHat wizard hat]].
* CutShort:
** Due to the manga's sudden cancellation (justified by its poor ratings the last several months), the final chapters was forced to rush the section of the Ishiyama Upstart arc it was on to end the fight against Fuji, and then capped the manga off with a [[TimeSkip 2-year-jump]] epilogue in the final chapter.
** The same applies to the anime adaptation which rushed through the climax of the Akuma Academy arc to create a GeckoEnding.
