[[caption-width-right:350:Mario vs. Bowser, taken to gigantic new extremes.]]

* Bowser takes on a fearsome new form known as Fury Bowser, which dwarfs all his previous giant transformationsexcept Giant Bowser in VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiDreamTeam, but of course that took place within Bowser's dream and is easily his most menacing form yet. What's more, Mario teams up with Bowser Jr. of all people to stop him. Oh, and to actually fight the Koopa King, Mario transforms into Giga Cat Mario, a kaiju-sized version of his normal cat form. With Super Saiyan hair. Badass.
* Take note that it's not just hair, it's a golden mane. The power-up isn't just a giant cat, it's a giant golden lion.
* Fury Bowser has not one, not two, but three different themes for each of his phases. Befitting such an epic transformation, they all sound as if Bowser had walked out of a metal concert. And that's just for normal gameplay. There are two more equally epic tracks for when Mario uses the Giga Bell that would make Sephiroth proud. All can be heard here.
* The fact that you use Plessie, a Yoshi-like Plesiosaurus, in the final phase of the battle is pretty awesome, and just like Fury Bowser and Giga Cat Mario, Plessie also gets a Giga Bell and becomes a Giga Cat-like Kaiju Beast.
* On the subject of Bowser Jr, he's finally using the Magic Paintbrush again (VideoGame/SuperSmashBros notwithstanding, of course)!
** And then the ending reveals that the game itself is one long one for the paintbrush. After Sunshine, Junior never used the brush to anywhere the same potential, mostly using the paint as a projectile or in a manner akin to tar. But in Bowser's Fury? Not only can he paint items into existence with his graffiti, but it turns out that Fury Bowser's transformation and the goop scattered across the isles was born from the black paint he used to paint his father as a joke. For the first time since its debut, we're reminded of the damage that the Magic Paintbrush has the potential to cause.
** During the ending cutscene, the kid is able to physically hold back his enormous father from attacking Mario, dragging him offscreen.
