The show was produced by {{Creator/Sunrise}}, the same animation company that is also responsible for making the opening animation for the game.

It was premiered on July 1, 2021, though various distributors had streamed the first two episodes ahead of the airing date. It was licensed by Funimation to be streamed in most countries, while Medialink licensed the show to be streamed in South and Southeast Asia. Wakanim (a subsidiary company of Funimation) had also licensed to show to be streamed in Nordic countries.

The anime follows the story of Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall, two new Other Suppression Force (OSF) soldiers who are recruited into the organization to combat mysterious creatures known as the Others.

!!This anime provides examples of:

* TheAnimeOfTheGame: While following the game's story, it also subjects it to AdaptationExpansion at times by mixing up Yuito and Kasane's scenarios.
* AdaptationExpansion: "Scarlet Psionics" shows Yuito and Nagi Karman doing anti-Other training prior to being recruited to the OSF.
** The same episode also shows Kaito Sumeragi conducting a commencement speech to the new recruits. Meanwhile, Yuito and Nagi were talking about the OSF woman who rescued the former after the speech.
** "Conspiracy" shows Gemma and Karen meeting with rogue OSF soldiers from Suoh secretly before they started their revolt.
** "Red Strings" shows Yuito, Kasane and their pre-party members engage rogue OSF forces led by Karen. It also shows Kagero trying to hide from the fight by using his invisibility powers.
** "Karen's Revolt" shows more of what was happening in Suoh when rogue OSF forces and Seiran National Defense Force troops raided Suoh. It also includes the evacuation of New Himuka Government [=VIPs=] to a safe room underground.
** "The Hunt for Nagi" has an original scene where Hanabi helps a civilian find her way to the hospital's neurology department as she's a dud.
** "Karen's Wish" has a flashback on how Karen first met Alice. It also showed what happened that led to Karen being recruited to the OSF.
** "A 2,000-Year Ambition" gives more details on the immigrant expedition that led to the creation of New Himuka City. The episode also firmly confirms that the Moon helped facilitiate the Extinction Belt by ensuring that the Other particles stayed on Earth.
* AdaptedOut: The final boss fight with Karen is not depicted from the game as he willed himself to travel through the Kunad Gate instead to close it.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: "The Hunt for Nagi" has Hanabi helping a female civilian look for the neurology department. Turns out that she's helping with reprogramming Nagi.
* HoldTheLine: Loyalist OSF soldiers and Suoh NDF troops were present in "Karen's Revolt" to hold back the Other creatures that raided the route to the safe room.
* InTheBack: During the fight on Kunad Highway in "Red Strings", Kyoka takes out a rogue OSF soldier from the back with her crossbow pistol.
* MoreDakka: New Himuka uses retractable anti-aircraft guns when Others dropping from the sky were detected.
* PragmaticAdaptation: The Seto/Kyoka Platoons conduct a capture the flag training scenario inside a junkyard (done in a VR arena), unlike the game where they do it in an abandoned building in "Scarlet Guardians".
** Chairman Joe Sumeragi was killed en route to the New Himuka Government safe room underground and not outside OSF HQ.
** Hanabi spots Nagi being brought to the hospital's Neurology Department
** In "Togetsu", Kasane's party meets with the hooded Togetsu Design Children outside instead of inside their pyramid in Mt. Hinoa. Kasane also doesn't bother to come inside, telling the [=DCs=] that she'll tell her team whatever they tell her, which starts a fight. Yuito's party later comes to Togetsu.
** Kasane and Yuito join forces to fight the conspiracy in "The Design Children". They later split up as of "A 2,000-Year Ambition".
*** Suoh-based OSF forces raid Togetsu to hunt down Yuito, Kasane and company. This never happened in the games.
** Yuito's team gets ambushed leaving the New Himuka Government Building by a Suoh OSF team. The game has them leaving right away after the alarm was raised.
* TwoLinesNoWaiting:
** "The Hunt for Nagi" has Yuito's team investigating the Suoh OSF Hospital for traces of covert brainwashing after Hanabi spots Nagi, while Kasane's team is checking on closing the Kunad Gate.
** From "A 2,000-Year Ambition", the surviving OSF teams led by Yuito and Kasane investigate the mysteries of Togetsu while escaping from a manhunt from pro-Suoh OSF forces.
* WhamEpisode:
** "The Hunt for Nagi": Yuito's team investigates the hospital after Hanabi catches a glimpse of Nagi being brought to the Neurology Department.
** "The Rebel Yuito": Karen offers Yuito a suppressant drug to help him before Yuito and company proceed to Togetsu.
