** Many, many fans decried [[KarmaHoudini Ashfur ending up in]] [=StarClan=] despite being unremorsefully guilty of treason and attempted murder, on the weak excuse that "he loved too much". [[spoiler:Here that's turned into a plot point: him being let off the hook so easily allowed him to become ''the main antagonist''. And why is he the antagonist? Because of his "love" for Squirrelflight. The narrative makes it clear his feelings absolutely do ''not'' justify his actions, and various [=StarClan=] cats deride their decision to trust him.]]
** When Rootspring and Bristlefrost [[TheyDo confessed their mutual feelings]] in "Veil Of Shadows", many fans were quick to point out that Bristlefrost had shown no romantic interest in Rootspring until the moment she confessed, and the pairing nearly broke the base. However, as the series continued and the two showed a remarkable amount of maturity (Rootspring acknowledging that Bristlefrost would [[LovedINotHonorMore choose her clan over him]] and being okay with that, the two not starting an actual relationship because they know it would cause even more tension in a tumultuous time, etc.), even being willing to go to Hell and back for each other, they became a fan-favorite pairing. It was only made all the more poignant after [[spoiler:Bristlefrost pulls a HeroicSacrifice to end the war with Ashfur, making her DeaderThanDead, and leaving Rootspring with only her dying dream to hold on to.]]

I remember the hate that Bristle Root got initially, at least in my corner of the fandom. If there's disagreement then I'll remove it, but at least going off my experiences it seems like they went from being an annoying aspect of the books to one of the core reasons to read them.
