* AudienceAlienatingEra: This era was not a friendly time for being an X-Men fan. After Disney claimed Fox's assets and reclaimed the movie rights to X-Men, rumors began circulating that Jonathan Hickman was gearing up to write this new volume of X-Men comics. Instead, it was a rough two year patch written by Creator/MatthewRosenberg (mostly), starting with "X-Men Disassembled", which saw the team dealing with a resurrected and messianic ComicBook/XMan who curbstomped them and whisked them away into the ''ComicBook/AgeOfXMan'' storyline. Meanwhile, the title limped along as the recently resurrected Cyclops and Wolverine reunited and gathered what was left for a LastStand of sorts, which ended up being a bloodbath as Rosenberg took out a number of iconic heroes in ridiculous ways.

* FanonDiscontinuity: Several fans are more than happy to ignore this run even happened. Seeing several of the characters killed already alive and well in for the ''ComicBook/DawnOfX'' initiative does help in that regard. The fact that ''ComicBook/XMen2019'' ignores and even outright contradicts it only added more fuel to the fire. And the fact that it doesn't probably just pisses everyone off even more.

* AudienceAlienatingEra:
** "Disassembled" is ''not'' liked for derailing numerous characters, weak characterisation, contrived plots and running with the ConflictBall. Not helping matters is its release as a weekly 10-part story, or that it's the first arc of a relaunch that ''immediately'' led into a crossover.
** Rosenberg's solo run. While initial response was mostly positive, over time it became criticised for rehashing old stories and making some disliked character changes, particularly with Cyclops. The grim and gritty tone doesn't help, given that mutants going extinct has more often than not been the status quo for mutants for the last two decades. Not helping matters is the body count, with many issues featuring the death of at least one popular B-list character, as well as the strange running gag of killing off Madrox dupes. Some were very happy to hear that the run would be coming to an end to make way for [[ComicBook/XMen2019 Jonathan Hickman's run on the franchise]].

* VoodooShark: The consequences of Emma's attempt to save mutants by erasing everyone's memories of them, as explored in [[https://screenrant.com/xmen-mutants-saved-dumbest-comic/amp/ this article]], causes more problems than it solves; in short, if doesn't affect the records and institutions built in response to mutants, leaving organizations like O*N*E* with obvious gaps in their personal history they'd want to fill.

Word Of God or similar is need it for this trope.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Marvel seems to have learned from the complaints about its predecessor, ComicBook/AvengersNoSurrender's length, as ''Disassembled'' arc is only 10 issues long, as opposed to a whopping ''16.''
** The book attempted one by addressing complaints about characters from ''New X-Men'' being DemotedToExtra. [[GoneHorriblyWrong Most of the fans of these characters considers these efforts being spit in the eye and told to be grateful.]]
** Annual #1 is a Saving Throw towards Cyclops, acknowledging his lackluster death from the Terrigen Mists and resetting him to his pre-House of M characterization. Kid Cable even admits he brought him back from the dead because he couldn't let his dad die so pointlessly, echoing many complaints from fans not about Cycylops dying, but about ''how'' he died.
--->'''Cable:''' You're...you're their '''leader'''. Their '''hope'''. For you to die on your knees from a damned infection? From mist? That's '''not''' the way it should have gone down. I couldn't let that be the end.
** With the mixed reception to Psylocke going back to being Caucasian, Revanche has a role in Rosenberg's run -- she also wears a modified version of the "ninja bathing suit" Psylocke costume that was popularised by Psylocke while in her Asian form.

* UnfortunateImplications: [[spoiler:Wolfsbane's death]] was ''not'' received well at all. Besides the fact that [[spoiler:she died, not kicking and screaming like a former New Mutant/government X-Factor/X-Force/X-Factor Investigations/etc. member should have, but cowering and apologizing as she's being beaten by men]], some saw the entire thing as an allegory for [[https://www.comicsbeat.com/uncanny-x-men-17-trans-panic-murder/ trans-panic murder]] and all the [[https://io9.gizmodo.com/the-x-mens-latest-death-highlights-why-marvels-mutant-m-1834502984 baggage that comes with that]], while not even using a transgender character or doing it for any specific reason. Rosenberg later apologized and said that this wasn't what he had in mind when he wrote the scene, but accepted the criticism and promised to do better.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: The portrayal of Pixie, Anole, Rockslide, Armor, and Glob. They either [[DudeWhereIsMyRespect have a legitimate point]] but come off as UnintentionallyUnsympathetic due to poorly-thought characterization. Or they are intentionally written as whiny and entitled so that they can learn a lesson but come off as UnintentionallySympathetic because at the end of the day, [[StrawmanHasAPoint they're right]]. On a meta level, whenever their portrayal has been an attempt at acknowledging complaints from ''New X-Men'' fandom or at constructing a [[StrawmanFallacy strawman]] of their argument and basically telling these fans to shut up?

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: What was eventually achieved in Rosenberg's solo run. At the start, killing off characters was treated as very dark and serious by many readers. But after Jonathan Hickman's run was announced and Rosenberg continually slaughtered characters for no apparent reason, it became a mix of thinking none of this will matter once Hickman's run begins and that the deaths aren't even worth getting upset about anymore; this seemingly hit its peak with what happened to [[spoiler: Magik, who is consumed by her dark side... despite an apparent version of her being prominent in the promotions for Hickman's run]].
