* CerebusSyndrome: The series started off somewhat serious, but after Dyson showed up, it took a nosedive into traumatic. The violence became more disturbing, torture and mutilation showed up more often, Tron's terrible past became more apparent, and Beck's uprising continued to fail. The slide is clearly seen with the treatment of the character Cyrus: [[spoiler:he was introduced as a truly good person whose influence ''started'' the fight against CLU, and ended up being sadistic, evil, and Beck's most dangerous enemy.]] Notably, the two episodes prior to the finale both have ''unrelated'' {{Downer Ending}}s, and the finale isn't exactly all upbeat, either.

The slide is clearly seen with the treatment CompleteMonster: In spite of the character Cyrus: [[spoiler:he was introduced as a truly good person whose influence ''started'' the fight against CLU, and ended up his being sadistic, evil, a SissyVillain, Pavel quickly becomes . He intentionally giving an unreasonable time-frame for Able's Garage to repair his tanks, and Beck's most dangerous enemy.]] Notably, the two episodes prior is not only annoyed that they succeeded, he's disappointed that he couldn't send them to the finale both have ''unrelated'' {{Downer Ending}}s, GladiatorGames. He gleefully tortures dozens of other programs, to the point where ''[[LudicrousGibs voxels]]'' are scattered all around his chamber. He thinks nothing of helping a train filled with passengers, outright stating that he's fine with ''everyone'' dying on the train as long as it got rid of ''one person''. He killed a bunch of prisoners just to test out his new upgrade, laughing all the way. His worst moment was when he [[AndIMustScream transformed]] [[UngratefulBastard his ally]] into a SlaveMook, apparently out of frustration that he was essentially demoted minutes earlier. The only time it appeared that he had standards was ultimately subverted; he was alarmed that Tesler killed on his his soldiers, not because he was shocked at Teslers extremism, but because he was afraid that Tesler could do the same to ''him''. This is backed by Pavel himself later killing an underling just to take his DeadlyDisc. Not a single thing is likable or redeemable about the guy, and the finale isn't exactly all upbeat, either.show fully hammers it home every chance it gets.

** Many of the deaths involve bisection, severe impalement, getting gibbed, or getting chunks ripped out of them, and you can be sure that all of this is shown on screen. Torture is pretty vicious, too, involving bits of the program getting vaporized out. At one point, Beck is being boiled alive while strapped to a chair. The show gets away with this because, being programs, there's no flesh or blood, merely featureless bluish cubes.
