* ArtisticLicenseGunSafety: There are multiple scenes where during shoot outs, there are civilians in large gatherings getting caught up in the attacks. Because of the stand offs, there should be more dead bodies by the time the film ends.
* BittersweetEnding: Huang is dead, but Fan has lost his friend Terry and his love Amy. Shirley lost her fiancé in a drive by ordered by Huang to the thugs. The police force is left in tatters from the wake of the destruction Huang brought upon it and its officers.

* CompleteMonster: Inspector Huang. He's the BigBad responsible for everything that happens in the film. He kills Terry when Terry confronts Uncle Tat, he frames Fan as being a dirty cop, sends the thugs to kill Fan's love Amy, [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil tries to force himself onto Shirley]] when she confronts him for being a dirty cop, orders an assassination on Uncle Tat's life so he can't testify against him, and takes Shirley hostage [[DirtyCoward when he is cornered]]. It's cathartic when Fan finally puts a bullet in his head.

** The Black Thug. He's quite a skilled fighter despite his size. He is portrayed by Donnie Yen's good friend, Michael Woods.

!!Tiger Cage II YMMV:
* AlasPoorVillain: [[spoiler:Uncle Chiu, head of the Triads, is murdered by Waise]].
* AllForNothing: The scene where Inspector Yeung chases the assassin who killed Waise's assistant. Yeung doesn't get to take him in, but shoots and kills him when he flees on foot. Without any evidence to go by, the chase seems pointless...
** Unless you watched the Hong Kong edit where she fights Waise Chow in the climax rather than Yau facing off against him.
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation:
** Did Waise truly love Petty to where he wanted to spare her from being killed? Or did he view her as being disposable as hinted of him being TheCasanova at the Adonis Club by the elevator conversation between Waise, David, and Kent?
** During the robbery scene, was Yau trying to be good Samaritan caught at the wrong place at the wrong time? Or did he join the brawl out his frustration from the divorce?
** The extent of how much David knew about Mandy. It's hinted that David frequent the Law Firm Waise and Mandy worked at multiple times. So he must have known her as a friend by then. During the Karaoake scene, David confessed his feelings to her. Was he happy that her relationship with her fiancé ended so he could be with her?
* BittersweetEnding: Depending which version is watched, Waise is either dead or arrested for his crimes. Though some elements are kept the same: David and Petty are both dead and it's left ambiguous on if Tak survived his gunshot wounds from Waise.
* CompleteMonster: Waise Chow. He staged the robbery to get the money away from Uncle Chiu without arousing suspicion. When Mandy witnesses the crime, he sends his goons to kidnap her. When Petty confronts him about his crime, he sends his assistant to murder her. He uses David to help him find the money in the elevator of the Law Firm he works at. After David finds the money, [[spoiler: Waise kills Uncle Chiu, takes over the Triads to begin the greatest secret drug trade in Hong Kong, and then proceeds to kill David as well]]. Watching the final battle go down between Yau and Waise feels cathartic... if only Mandy didn't steal the last shot.
* DamselScrappy: Mandy Chang, hands-down. Even if she could stop screaming for maybe five minutes, she still drags the film down with her almost zero contributions in the film, save for [[spoiler: bashing Waise's brains out in the final battle]].
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: When Petty Lee confronts Waise for his role with the Triads as a Lawyer, there appears to be repressed Sexual Tension between Waise and Petty. Waise tries to convince Petty to join him on one of the greatest Drug exchanges in Hong Kong. Petty responds in disgust by trying to slap him, but he catches her wrist. He then asks her in a creepy tone, while holding her wrist firmly, if she still loves him as he tries to pull her close to him. From the look of fear on Petty's face, one can confirm that she made the right move to get out of there. The scene almost looks as if Waise is about to hit Petty... [[AttemptedRape Or do something worse since they're both alone in an empty office at night]].
* HilariousInHindsight: Creator/RobinShou, who portrays Waise, looks like a Bond Villain out of the late 80s Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton Film/JamesBond film eras respectively. Nevermind the the fact that he goes on to his [[Film/MortalKombatTheMovie first appearance in American films]] alongside Creator/TalisaSoto (Kitana) and Creator/CaryHiroyukiTagawa (Shang Tsung), both whom previously starred together in the Film/JamesBond film ''Film/LicenceToKill'', in which Soto was Lupe Lamora, the secondary Bond girl, and Tagawa was Kwang.
* IKnewIt: Waise was the BigBad the whole time. The biggest giveaway was the robbery. He faked getting knocked out after getting punched in the face while cornered in the elevator. [[spoiler: His first meeting with the American thugs show him being weapon savvy when they try to attack him. His fight between him and David also shows how dangerous he was the whole time]]. Another give away is the fact that Waise is portrayed by Robin Shou, an actual martial artist in real life. A simple punch to the face wasn't going to keep him down for long.
* JustHereForGodzilla: Fans of Donnie Yen will be interested in his characters Terry and Yau in the first and second Tiger Cage films. Fans of Robin Shou, David Wu, and Cynthia Khan may check out the second film.
* MeanCharacterNiceActor: Waise Chow is a pretty terrifying character from staging the whole robbery to killing the leader of the Triads. Creator/RobinShou is the opposite as being a kind actor.
* MrFanservice: Inspector Yau, David, and Waise are portrayed by Donnie Yen, David Wu, and Robin Shou. It can't be denied that they are some good looking men. Bonus goes to John Salvatti and Michael Woods, the two American thugs in the movie. They're not hard on the eyes.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: After outrunning the Triads but getting separated from Yau, David takes Mandy to a hotel after she inadvertently knocks herself out by running into a light pole. She wakes up naked and questions David, whose in a towel, on what he was doing while she was unconscious. When he gives a loaded answer, she beats him with a pillow until he drops his towel. He hits the floor trying to cover himself up, begging her to stop teasing him before telling the truth. He got rid of her old clothes because her clothes stink and bought a new set for her.
* NoodleIncident: Yau's divorce. The audience knows very little of what was the last straw for Yau's marriage. The only hints given is his hot-blooded attitude and what his soon-to-be ex-wife shared with Mandy.
* RomanticPlotTumor: The sudden romance between Inspector Yau and Mandy Chang seemingly happens out of nowhere, considering at no point in the movie did either character seem to show interest in each other. She's only a DesignatedLoveInterest for him because the script says so.
* SpecialEffectsFailure: In the scene where the Black Thug is impaled, the spike isn't seen going through him even though his torso falling back onto it is in full view. Indicating that the spikes are fake.
* {{Squick}}:
** The elevator scene where Kent says he's been a good boy because of "AIDS". Funny for the three men, but awkward for the audience to watch.
** Yau tries to use the toilet while handcuff to Mandy. Her slinking down while he's in the bathroom leads to him peeing on himself.
** When Yau is running from the Triads and the police, he gets hit from above by waste water and hides in a barrel full of wet trash. Yuck!
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Waise is portrayed by Robin Shou, who is not only handsome with a slight tan complex, he is close to six feet tall.
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The whole second film was released in the late 1980s to 1990. The cellphone Waise uses after the robbery occurs is hilarious to look at seeing how bulky it is. There's also the exercise bike used in the torture scene. It's funny seeing that these models are rarely found in gyms across the world.
* WhatAnIdiot: Petty Lee: Petty overhears David and Waise talking about their scheme to expand the influence of the Triads through their drug trade by cleaning the money to where it becomes untraceable. In this scene, she realizes that Waise has not been the good boyfriend she hoped that he was.\\
'''You'd Expect''': Petty, being a lawyer, to be smart and try not to get caught in the office. If anything, she should have hid out of sight, listen to more of what David and Waise are saying, wait for the room to clear, quickly call the police, and get Waise arrested as well as David.\\
'''Instead''': She confronts Waise, calls him out for being a dirty Lawyer, and tries to slap him. She goes back to her apartment to record an audio message to Waise saying that she’s dumping him BEFORE she calls to police.\\
'''The Result''': Because of her actions, she gave Waise enough time to send his assistant to her apartment and kill her... while she was on the phone with the police. Had she been smarter, she would have lived to warn Mandy that Waise couldn’t be trusted. Her death ends up causing both Mandy and Yau to be framed for her murder.\\
'''To Be Fair''': Waise’s assistant could have gotten away with murder had she not stuck around and get into a shoot out with Inspector Yeung. If she was smart, then she should have left when the police showed up and let Mandy go down for the murder. By getting shot, her bullet wound ends up allowing Yeung to figure out who killed Petty.
** But... this is only relevant to the plot if the audience watches the Hong Kong edit, where Inspector Yeung takes on Waise and finally arrests him. That edit is the only edit of the two versions for Tiger Cage 2 where Waise lives.
* ValuesDissonance: There are two throw away lines that poke fun at gays, but they add nothing to the plot. The first is in the elevator with Waise talking with David and Kent. Waise jokes about David and Kent going back to a secret men's club and hooking up. David notes that he doesn't stand a chance as Waise is a Lady killer... but Kent says he's been a good boy because of "AIDS". The only thing that is later discovered about Kent is that he was an undercover cop that was about to bring Waise and the rest of the mafia down and that he hid the brief case of money [[spoiler: in the elevator]]. His death occurs after Mandy accidentally launches him through her car windshield. So it's unknown on if he was telling the truth or not. [[spoiler: The second is Mandy wishing the best for Yau and David after finding the hidden money in an elevator. Yau questions her on if she is calling him and David gay]]. These lines in recent films would not be accepted in changing times as they would be deemed Homophobic.
