* HarsherInHindsight: In-story, every single bad thing that eventually happens on the island can be traced to Montgomery, Val Kilmer's character, being an asshole who thinks everything revolves around him and should cater to his tastes. During production, Val Kilmer's antics and antagonising behaviour were one of the chief reasons why the production turned into such a nightmare.

* {{Narm}}: After [[spoiler:Moreau is killed]], Montgomery starts dressing like Moreau (complete with makeup and stuffing towels under his shirt to mimic his gut) and mockingly mimicking his grandiose speeches. While this is ridiculous enough on its own, instead of mimicking the British accent Marlon Brando had given Moreau, Val Kilmer does a stereotypical Marlon Brando impression, making it abundantly clear he's doing this to mock ''Brando'' more than his character is mocking Moreau.

* {{Narm}}: After [[spoiler:Moreau is killed]], Montgomery takes over Moreau's PA system and starts mockingly mimicking his announcements. However, instead of mimicking the British accent Marlon Brando had given Moreau, Val Kilmer does a stereotypical Marlon Brando impression, making it abundantly clear he's more concerned with mocking Brando than staying in character.

* TookTheBadFilmSeriously: While it's a disaster overall, you can't say it's because of the performances of Creator/DavidThewlis, Creator/FairuzaBalk, and Creator/RonPerlman. All three give performances that are better than the film probably deserves.
