** Which also raises the question of just why he pursued Carol so intensely. Was it LoveAtFirstSight or was he desperate for a new wife/mother for his kids?

* VindicatedByCable: After a disappointing run in syndication, the show spent nine years on ABC Family's schedule and became part of The Hub's schedule shortly before it changed its name to Creator/DiscoveryFamily.
* DarthWiki/WhatAnIdiot: Dana, normally one of the show's [[IdiotBall smartest characters]], gets one in "Sister Act". Karen, jealous of Dana dating Michael, has called Michael and claimed that Dana is 14 instead of 18, which would mean serious legal trouble for Michael. Based off this, Michael confronts Dana at the diner about the supposed "age gap".\\
'''You'd Expect:''' Dana to remind Michael that she's the manager of the diner. Given that Wisconsin has work permit laws for anyone under 16, Dana couldn't possibly hold that job if she was only 14. Michael has been shown to be an intellectual and would understand that Dana's job title makes it obvious that Karen is lying. Dana could further undercut Karen's claim that Karen is the older sister by reminding Michael that she's Karen's boss at the diner, which wouldn't make much sense if Karen was the older of the two.\\
'''Instead:''' Dana doesn't think of any of this, causing a scene that leaves Michael more inclined to believe Karen and Dana desperate to find anyone to back her up.\\
'''So Now You'd Expect:''' Dana to speak to the owner of the diner. He could easily confirm for Michael that Dana is 18 as she claims, as he's her boss and has her information on file.\\
'''Or:''' Dana could ask one of her crew members to confirm her age. They'd have no reason to lie and plenty of incentive to tell the truth, given she's their boss.\\
'''Instead:''' Dana asks '''J.T.'''. Granted, Dana doesn't know J.T. has taped her conversation, but J.T. has shown he'll do anything he can to torment Dana.\\
'''Predictably:''' J.T. backs up Karen and claims Dana is only 14.\\
'''The Result:''' Michael breaks up with Dana.

When he does hire one, she's absolutely gorgeous, and although very qualified--which, to be fair, he sincerely admires her for--it's also clear that he hired her for her looks and that her competency was just a lucky bonus.

** Frank's unseen first wife also gets this. Did she callously abandon her family or was she desperate to escape from a marriage that she felt trapped in? We know that Frank basically stalked Carol on her vacation and convinced her to marry him within ''days''. Later, he sincerely asks her how long people should date before they marry, revealing that he's genuinely clueless about how relationships work. It's not hard to imagine that he did something similar to his first wife and she eventually got so miserable that she felt she had no choice but to leave.

YMMV can't be played with and the reason for the subversion means it's not an example

* MoralEventHorizon: A very rare example of this trope being subverted by the Lambert children, who in the Season 4 finale try to prevent their stepsiblings from meeting their new baby sister, and show absolutely zero remorse for doing so when caught. Note that this is about as deep into this trope as a family sitcom is likely to ever get. The subversion occurs throughout the rest of the series, which continues to present them as generally well-meaning people despite very clear evidence otherwise.

She's portrayed as a bitch for doing so, even though she's made it abundantly clear that she's not interested and is therefore completely justified in being angry and annoyed that in true TV style, he refuses to take "No" for an answer and continues pursuing her.

* HarsherInHindsight: "Beyond Therapy" sees the family go to just that, due to Carol's concern over how the constant BlendedFamilyDrama will affect the new baby. Everyone gets a one-on-one time with the therapist to vent their feelings about the baby announcement, but Brendan's proves surprisingly prophetic. He bemoans how he'll lose his role as the cute youngest one in the family and summarily get shafted, which ends up being exactly what happens (especially when Lily goes through SoapOperaRapidAgingSyndrome).
