* BrokenAesop: The moral of the story, essentially, is that sometimes you need to apologize for things even when you don't believe that you did anything wrong, and even when you may have suffered more than the person you're being asked to apologize to. The problem is, while Archer obviously doesn't think he was wrong... he is. Objectively. Bringing an animal whose behavior he couldn't really control along for negotiations with a species who is well-known to be easily offended and put a special emphasis on tradition wasn't a good idea, thus, he loses any sympathy from the audience. Rather than them rooting for Archer before finally accepting the HardTruthAesop at the end, they find themselves siding with the Kreetassans and asking for Archer to just apologize for offending them.

* TaintedByThePreview: The only Star Trek product that's more potentially infamous and embarrassing than this episode is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2y8gF57NqY the trailer for it]], which looks like something straight out of a sleazy sitcom.

* IdiotPlot: There was absolutely no reason for Archer, who is supposed to be a trained diplomat, to bring his dog along on a sensitive diplomatic mission with an alien species who basically has it as their main hat that you have to constantly tread on eggshells around them due to them being very easily offended. The resulting diplomatic crisis that effectively leaves Archer and his crew stranded for most of the episode, which is triggered by Porthos peeing on a tree in Kreetassans' sacred grove, was as easily predictable as it was avoidable. Add to this that the diplomatic crisis essentially only remains a crisis because of Archer being petulant and refusing to give a formal apology to the Kreetassans for most of the episode, due to Porthos getting sick while visiting their planet, even though this is also a direct result of his own decision to needlessly bringing his dog along for the mission.

Recap Pages shouldn't spoil things that happen after the recapped episode.

* FridgeBrilliance: The continuity error caused by T'Pol's implying that Vulcans don't keep pets (which contradicted what was previously depicted in both TOS and TAS) would later be addressed in Season 4, where it was revealed that Vulcans ''do'' keep pets, but more as a method of learning discipline and responsibility than for companionship. Archer's self-centred behavior in this episode would therefore completely fly in the face of what pet ownership represented to a Vulcan, especially seeing how T'Pol mentioned in Season 4 that she herself kept a pet Sehlat, which is ''not'' an animal for an irresponsible person to own.
