** Shaun. There's those who love her and those who hate her, most of the criticism being towards the controversial GenderFlip. There's a third group that like her as a character, but admit that they can't ignore the UnfortunateImplications of changing Shun's gender.

** The pairing of Hyoga/Shaun tends to have this reaction from the fandom. While shippers like their chemistry and the hints about a possible romance happening between the two, others hate it due to Shun's GenderFlip, and Shaun and this version of Hyoga both being considered BaseBreakingCharacter. While some Hyoga/Shun shippers were not very welcome of the change, there's still those who are very accepting of Hyoga/Shaun.

** Shaun/Saori. Fans like the idea of her and Shaun having a LadyAndKnight romance. The same shippers also love the potential of a FoeYayShipping between the two if the show ever reboots the Hades arc.

* ToughActToFollow: In terms of animation, Knights of the Zodiac often gets compared to the franchise's first attempt at CGI animation, Anime/SaintSeiyaLegendOfSanctuary, with many praising the visuals of the movie and designs of the characters, while criticizing the CGI of Knights of the Zodiac for looking cheap in comparison.

Others are more critical of it, finding the design to just be a lazy Palette Swap of Shaun and wishing the creators had given her a new appearance in this reboot.

* LesYay: Shaun is shipped with both Saori and June. With Saori, fans like the idea of her and Shaun having a LadyandKnight romance. Meanwhile, June and Shaun had already a small following before June was even confirmed to be in the show, due to the Shun/June ShipTease in the original series.

* BadassDecay: While every Bronze Knight, sans Seiya was DemotedToExtra in Season 2, Magnus and Shaun got hit by this really bad, as their fights against the Silver Knights were adapted out, and they were easily defeated by Perseus Algol and Vander Guraad.

* SpecialEffectFailure: As noted above, a major reason why the show was given backlash when it was first revealed was the animation itself, looking low-budget with many hallmarks of late-2000s Creator/{{Nickelodeon}} CGI on full display including rough looking texturing, underlit rendering and hair that looks like plastic and barely [[NoFlowInCGI moves]]. The doll-like designs of the characters don't do much in the way of helping things. These issues don't really improve much by the time of its sequel '' Battle for Sanctuary''.
** In episode 2 of the sequel series, the fight between Seiya and Aldebaran has some very pixelated texturing going on with the temple floor in multiple shots.

* UnfortunateImplications: Andromeda Shun's gender change from man to woman (named Shaun in this adaptation) brought a worldwide negative reaction and that has been mentioned by both [[https://steemit.com/anime/@dolivero/why-changing-the-sex-of-andromeda-shun-is-not-inclusive English-speaking]] and [[https://codigoespagueti.com/noticias/cultura/volver-a-shun-mujer-es-mas-machista-de-lo-que-creeiamos/ Spanish-speaking]] media, as Shun was rather unique for a guy character at his time of creation being the Sensitive Guy in a team of Manly Men and a BadassPacifist with feminine motifs that were taken seriously. To GenderFlip that character unintentionally sent out the message that an unconventional guy wouldn't fly in that universe.

** The reaction to the Netflix trailer can best be described as '''''apocalyptic''''', to say the least. The dislike/like ratio in the English, Portuguese, and Spanish trailers is overwhelmingly in dislike corner. The biggest cause of this has been Shun's GenderFlip, which [[ExecutiveMeddling producer Eugene Son]] admits was a unilateral decision by him in order to have a female main character without having to create a new character and/or change the story, even though Toei expressed reservations about the change. It's a big enough deal that newspapers in Latin America ran articles criticizing the change. Neither the [[SpecialEffectsFailure cheap looking late-2000s TV CGI]], cartoonish and stilted voice acting (despite Creator/SentaiFilmworks's cast returning to this series) or the fact that the villains were a human army helped matters any.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: [[CompositeCharacter Combining both]] the Black Saints from the original series with the [[CanonForeigner Steel Saints]] from Toei series is actually a good idea, since a common criticism of the Black Saints is that they were never explored as characters beyond being common goons, and adding Cassios to their ranks, who was Seiya's rival to obtain the Pegasus Cloth, and giving him the Black variation would be an excellent idea... except that the Black Saints are not dark counterparts of the main group, and Casios can't be the Black Pegasus Saint.

* SoOkayItsAverage: While the most abrasive reviews this series got are pretty harsh due the changes made to the plot and the characters, other, more positive reviews tend to consider it not terrible, but not particularly remarkable either.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: [[CompositeCharacter Combining both]] the Black Saints from the original series with the [[CanonForeigner Steel Saints]] from Toei series is actually a good idea, since a common criticism of the Black Saints is that they were never explored as characters beyond being common goons, and adding Cassios to their ranks, who was Seiya's rival to obtain the Pegasus Cloth, and giving him the Black variation would an excellent idea... except that the Black Saints are not dark counterparts of the main group, and Casios can't be the Black Pegasus Saint.

** For Latin American Spanish viewers, the situation is even worse, as Seiya's voice actor went from Creator/JesusBarrero, who passed away in 2016, to Darío Yazbek Bernal, who is Creator/GaelGarciaBernal's younger half-brother and, while he did some acting, especially in ''Series/LaCasaDePapel'', another Netflix series, he never did voice acting before and it shows, as his acting sounds wooden and out-of-place for a character like Seiya. However, Creator/AlfonsoHerrera, who voiced Magnus/Hyoga, received a more favorable reception.
