* MagnificentBastard: Pyewacket was able to trick Leah with numerous illusions, which it turns out [[spoiler: were all part of the plan to make her think she's GenreSavvy. Added DiffLines:

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Note how Leah's mother instantly becomes nicer and more accommodating after the ritual is performed. While it could be a HeelRealization brought on by seeing her daughter apparently cutting herself...what if that was a side effect of the ritual? Could Pyewacket have supernaturally eased the mother's grief purely to torture Leah even more over what she's just done?
* JerkassWoobie: Mrs Reyes in the first half of the film is an alcoholic mess who admittedly doesn't treat her daughter very well - even selling the house behind her back and trying to transfer her out of her school because she doesn't like her friends. You can understand Leah's motivations in casting the ritual after the argument in the house. But it's clear she's grieving for her husband and does love her daughter when the dust settles.
* LesYay: Given how affectionate Janice is to Leah - they in fact share more scenes than the latter does with her crush Aaron - you could wonder if the two of them could secretly have a thing for each other.

* ParanoiaFuel: When Leah is told that Pyewacket will trick her with lies, she can't be sure of what's real or not. Even texts on her phone can be illusions.
* TheWoobie: Leah is a teenager dealing with her father's death and a mother who disapproves of her one coping mechanism - and gets uprooted to a new place against her will. Her mother even tells her that her resemblance to her dead father is making her grief worse. She enacts a ritual in a fit of rage and then spends the rest of the film in a constant state of guilt and terror.
