* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Sho Minazuki [[spoiler: has the tragic backstory where he was raised Ikutsuki and can only connect with people by fighting them]]. But he is such a nonstop asshole to everyone, [[spoiler: even after his plan is thwarted and everyone forgives him and he realizes he had a friend all along]]. And he enjoys petty acts of cruelty so much, like [[spoiler: taking control of Labrys with her remote control, making her attack her friends, and laughing about it]]. Which would all be fine, if the main characters did not constantly forgive him, never try to hold him accountable for his actions, and insist that all he really wants is to connect with people, which excuses his behavior.

** To a far lesser degree, [[spoiler:Akihiko in his ending. The ending of ''Arena'' indicated that he'd want to quit the Shadow Operatives one day, Mitsuru was far more than willing to pay for his college expenses, and Aigis would keep tabs on his classes. The ending here shows that he regularly skips them, and would rather keep aimlessly training like he did on his global expedition (that he dropped out of college in the first place to do). The narration even states that he finds college a nuisance, despite the fact that he'd need some sort of higher education to become a police officer anyway, even with the connection he intends to establish with Officer Kurosawa. * AccidentalInnuendo: When Yukari beats Ken, she'll comment on how "big" he and Koromaru grew. The chat picked up on this.

%% Do NOT link to AndTheFandomRejoiced. It is for in-universe examples only.
%%
* BaseBreaker:
** Ken and Koromaru being TheDividual. People would like to play as Koromaru, but hate that Ken is attached to him, while others are fine with them together. The fact that Ken could de-summon him and fight on his own further raises the question as to why they can't be separate.
*** Ken himself. While his redesign is positively received, many people [[RonTheDeathEater still blame him]] for [[WhamEpisode October 4th]], plus, he still has [[Creator/MonaMarshall his less than popular English dub voice]]. At the same time though, being in the game gives him a chance to develop more as a character (one of the complaints about him in the original game).
** [[EnsembleDarkhorse Adachi]] is back and even has his own campaign… as [[InternetBackdraft DLC]] included with all new purchases of ''Ultimax''.
*** Atlus seems to want to avoid as much backlash as they possibly can with this decision, however, as Adachi is completely free whether you own the game or not on the first week of the game's release.
** The reveal that Marie is also going to be DLC has brought a similar reaction, as a holdover between those who dislike her and those who enjoy her inclusion into the canon story.
*** The fact that she's paid DLC has calmed down the detractors, as they can just avoid buying her. But that then opens another can of worms over Marie fans that are forced to buy her, as well as people who despise paid DLC to begin with. Atlus is evidently aware of Marie's reception and has also made Marie free on the first week of the game's release.
** Margaret being a ''paid'' DLC character from the start.
* BrokenBase: "Do you think the [[{{Persona 3}} P3MC]] should be a playable character?" That question is something of a FandomBerserkButton that no one can agree on.
** The fact that the DLC is on-disc. While some people are fine with it since they're temporarily free, the practice of on-disc DLC being present at all was found condemnable by some.
* ComplacentGamingSyndrome: Funnily enough in ''Ultimax,'' the most popular characters in ''Arena'' are still popular. Expect to see A LOT of Sho (both versions) and Narukami.
* HilariousInHindsight: The first line of the chorus to "Time To Make History" (The new battle theme from ''Persona 4 Golden'') being the Baseball terminology "Step on up to the plate" became this when Junpei was unveiled, dressed in a Baseball uniform & wielding a Baseball Bat as his weapon of choice. This was ramped up when "Time To Make History" replaced "Fog" as the Instant-Kill theme.
* MemeticMutation: Anything to do with [[HotterAndSexier Ken]]. People acting astonished that him drinking milk to get tall actually did something.
* TearJerker: Junpei daydreaming about proposing to Chidori becomes tragic when you remember [[spoiler: she's canonically ''[[TheLostLenore dead]].'']]
* {{Woolseyism}}: In Japan, the two Shos are separated by naming the one without a Persona in kanji, and the one with a Persona in katakana. This obviously doesn't work in English, so Atlus instead opted to separate the two by having one operate on a FirstNameBasis (without Persona) and the other on a LastNameBasis (with Persona).
** Adachi's localized title as well. Especially if one doesn't care for the cabbage bit.
