** Pucci's relationship with DIO is often questioned by many readers. A 6 year difference is very small and doesn't really warrant a Values Dissonance entry

* ValuesDissonance:
** In the manga, while playing catch, Jolyne randomly says that F.F. throws, "like a queer",In the original Japanese, she describes F.F. as looking like an "okama" (a Japanese-language slur interchangeably referring to CampGay or otherwise effeminate men, crossdressers, and trans women), which was changed in the tankobon release to the more neutral "gei" (which is more associated with MachoCamp or ManlyGay men). something that would probably be commonplace in the West (especially among hardened delinquents like Jolyne) in the early 2000s, the time of release, as well as 2011, when the story takes place, but would probably be quite a no-no since at least 2014. This phrase is even more confusing given the story's own hints about Jolyne being AmbiguouslyBi, if her reaction to is any indication. Possibly aware of this fact, David Production opted to leave the line out of the anime. However, there is still a nod to this dialogue in the first opening, "STONE OCEAN", which features a rainbow over F.F. throwing a baseball.
** Despite being one of the heroes, Anasui is shown to be an unstable Yandere with Jolyne (not to mention his murder of his previous girlfriend and the man she was cheating on him with), and is accordingly made the butt of jokes whenever he tries to get with her. But the culmination of his and her arc is [[spoiler:his reincarnation getting with Jolyne/Irene in the new universe and preparing to marry her. While it can be assumed that he's probably nicer in this new universe (given that he's not in prison), there's still the fact that he's a 25-year-old man marrying a 19-year old, an age difference that's not inappropriate but would certainly raise a few eyebrows among modern readers, not to mention the implication that this is the ending he deserves for pursuing an uninterested girl, hero or not. Somewhat lessened by the fact that Irene is shown to be into him too, as well as everything they went through together in the previous universe, but it's still something that modern audiences may find skeevy]].

* ValuesResonance: Despite being released in Japan during a time where worldwide, the portrayal of trans people in media was still not being taken very seriously, the (manga-only, although he potentially appears in the background of Loccobarocco's lecture in the anime) trans male inmate that Jolyne encounters at Green Dolphin is shown to be just as buff and handsome as any cis male [=JoJo=] character, rather than some offensive caricature. There is the fact that he's being sent to a women's prison and the fact that the staff refer to him with female pronouns, but given that Green Dolphin isn't shown to have much care for its inmates in the first place, this can be chalked up to DeliberateValuesDissonance. In addition, Jolyne treats him with quizzical wonder, even proclaiming him as being "the dawn of a new era", rather than the absolute disgust seen at the same time in many Western works trying to riff off of Film/TheCryingGame. With anti-trans "bathroom bills" becoming an increasingly hot topic in the late 2010's and 2020's, the scene can also be interpreted as a criticism of purely sex-based segregationWhose proponents usually focus on putting trans women into male spaces, so flipping the genders involved by showing a passing trans man being forced into a female-only space where he clearly doesn't belong highlights the absurdity of these beliefs, which is still an extremely progressive message even decades after the chapter's release.

** The removal of in the third batch of the anime wasn't well-recieved by fans, to say the least. Adding back the Thunder Mc Queen one. It was removed due to Fan Myopia but I feel it doesn't qualify for this, since it's not really about fans of Cars projecting their views onto Jojo, but rather people in general finding the similar name funny (of any characters named Mc Queen, Lightning is probably the most well known one even to those that didn't watch Cars). Adding it back since it's a commonly seen joke.

Added DiffLines:

** A rather memetic example of this is the suicidal janitor Thunder [=McQueen=], who, while named after fashion designer Alexander [=McQueen=], also has a name strikingly similar to Lightning McQueen, whose movie actually released several years after Stone Ocean.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Stone Free being localized as "Stone Ocean" in both the subtitles and the dub is generally agreed to be a poor decision. "Stone Ocean" refers to Green Dolphin Street Prison, so having Jolyne name her Stand after her nickname for the prison itself, rather than her goal to escape from it, makes much less sense.

** Before the anime was announced it was very common for fans to make jokes, memes, and fanart comparing Enrico Pucci to fellow villainous SinisterMinister Kirei Kotomine from the Franchise/FateSeries, resulting in Kotomine's voice actor Creator/JojiNakata being a very popular fancast for Pucci. Fans eventually got their wishes when Joji Nakata voiced him in the official Ultra Jump Stone Ocean commercials as well as Eyes of Heaven. Come the anime adaptation, Pucci was recast again, but this time as none other than Creator/TomokazuSeki, who famously voiced Kotomine's partner-in-crime Gilgamesh, and whose resemblance to DIO and similar levels of HoYay towards Kotomine were one of the main reasons people started comparing Pucci to the latter in the first place. These castings also had the side effect of accidentally making Pucci's first voice actor being Creator/ShoHayami in All Star Battle a lot funnier, since he played Tokiomi, the last member of Kotomine and Gilgamesh's triumvirate in Anime/FateZero.

** A rather memetic example of this is the suicidal janitor Thunder [=McQueen=], who, while named after fashion designer Alexander [=McQueen=], also has a name strikingly similar to Lightning McQueen, whose movie actually released several years after Stone Ocean.
** Originally, in Eyes of Heaven, Pucci was voiced by Creator/JojiNakata, who's known for playing fellow SinisterMinister Kirei Kotomine. Come the anime adaptation, and Pucci is now revealed to be voiced by Creator/TomokazuSeki, who's best known for playing Koto's partner-in-crime, Gilgamesh. And before that, he was voiced by Creator/ShowHayami, who was Tokiomi Tohsaka, the liaison between Kotomine and Gilgamesh.

Meant to be brain folds like her stand.

* FashionVictimVillain: Character designs were pushing it in Part 5, but by this point, there was essentially no limit to what could be considered clothing in [=JoJo=]. Special mention goes to Lang Rangler's brown leather getup including a helmet that covers part of his eyes, Miumiu's heavy wrinkled sweater resembling a set of small intestines with a pair of eyes, Rikiel's cow-patterned jumpsuit with a chin hood and head suction cups, and D an G's multi-colored toga that might as well be a rug.

I wouldn’t really call these popular nicknames as they’re closer to nonspecific epithets.

** "Cow Man" for Rikiel, referring to his cow-printed suit.
** "Plankton Girl/Plankton Waifu" for Foo Fighters, mostly from fans who find them attractive or cute.
** "Baseball Kid" for Emporio, based on his baseball uniform and him being the gang's TagalongKid.
