* SpecialEffectsFailure: The Asteroid battle. The strings are so obvious, and like the Miki and Cosmos scenes, this could also have been cut without impacting the film, since it makes one wonder just how the Moguera could fly all the way into space in a short time, fight [=SpaceGodzilla=], return to Earth, and still have [=SpaceGodzilla=] not arrive at Earth until sometime later. It almost undoes the goodwill that Kawakita created with the spectacular editing involved in Godzilla's arrival at Birth Island.

* SpecialEffectsFailure: The Asteroid battle. The strings Though Kawakita‘s effects are so obvious, still relatively good for the era (such as the final fight and like the Miki and Cosmos scenes, this could also Godzilla’s first appearance for example), it does have been cut without impacting noticeable flubs, more so than past Heisei films.
** At one point when Godzilla goes underwater,
the film, since it makes one wonder just how tip of his tail is visibly shown snapping off the Moguera could fly all the way into suit.
** The outer
space in a short time, fight [=SpaceGodzilla=], return to Earth, between MOGUERA and still have [=SpaceGodzilla=] not arrive at Earth until sometime later. It almost undoes [=SpaceGodzilla=]. while the goodwill that Kawakita created miniatures used for the two are well detailed, the background is just a black wall with no stars or planets to be seen. Not helping matters is the spectacular editing involved in Godzilla's arrival at wires holding both the monster models and the asteroids are visible.
** When Yuki’s chasing Godzilla on
Birth Island.Island, there’s a brief shot of Godzilla’s face casting a shadow on the ground, which looks more like a stiff, plastic toy slowly sliding across the ground.

* NeverLiveItDown: Miki Saegusa’s line about feeling sorry for [=SpaceGodzilla=] after its death has been met with plenty of snark from the films detractors as an example of how poorly her character was written. This is despite the fact that this line was taken from the films notorious HongKongDub (which were known to change the dialogue around for no reason). Her actual dialogue has her say that [=SpaceGodzilla=] was a truly evil monster and that she was happy it was killed in the end.

* ContestedSequel: Arguably the most polarizing entry of the Heisei era. Depending on who is consulted, this is either an entertaining film with fun characters and a great final fight, a SoOkayItsAverage entry that doesn’t live up to the rest of the era, or an irredeemable atrocity with bad special effects and an inconsistent tone.

* CriticalBacklash: While many agree that it’s the weakest of the Heisei era Godzilla films, there’s been a surge in defenders for the film who feel its unjustifiably bashes and beaten as one of the absolute worst Godzilla films ever made. Many point to BadExportForYou in regards to the terrible, Toho approved dubbing and the even worse translations on the Sony Blu-ray that change the characters dialogue and motivation to something not seen in the original Japanese version. For example, Miki Saegusa is often mocked for scolding everyone for always trying to kill Godzilla and for feeling bad that [=SpaceGodzilla=] was killed, when in actuality she’s justifiably upset that no one is understanding the greater threat with [=SpaceGodzilla=] and was indeed thrilled by his defeat Some also felt that it was still a fun movie in its own right with some good fights and fun characters. Granted it doesn’t fix every other problem with the film, but some feel it deserves another watch in its purest form.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Many of the sequences involving Miki and the Cosmos are not only abrupt, but they really have no impact on the plot whatsoever. Hell, these sequences could be cut from the film altogether, and their absence wouldn't impact the plot in any way at all.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Little Godzilla, despite not getting that much screen-time, is rather divisive. Some see him as unintentionally creepy, saw it as overtly pandering to little children and a downgrade from the awesome UglyCute design he had previously. Others think he’s genuinely cute and love his quirky interactions with the main characters. Still there are those who like him just fine, but are baffled by how he went from hunched over and reptilian, to standing upright, to hunched over again.

** Spacegodzilla. Some view him as cool looking and sinister, while others view him as a bland clone of Godzilla. His generic-sounding name certainly didn't help matters.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Takayuki Hattori composed a rather nice score for the film, and Godzilla's 1994 theme is very rousing. [=SpaceGodzilla=]'s theme is probably the best theme in the score, sounding not only ominous and powerful, but also seemingly referencing Koichi Sugiyama's Biollante score as well, which actually helps the film since it references the 1989 movie several times. The song that plays over the end credits, Echoes Of Love (by Date of Birth), is also very pleasant.

* CompleteMonster: Most Heisei kaiju didn't have a choice about whether they were good or bad. Not so the case with the wickedly clever [=SpaceGodzilla=], an EvilTwin if ever there was one. Created when Godzilla's cells fused with a crytal alien, the resultant clone arrived in our solar system with two thoughts in mind--TakeOverTheWorld and slaughter his genetic donor in the process. Butchering the inhabitants of a space station that he flew past, [=SpaceGodzilla=] arrived on Birth Island where he assaulted, and then kidnapped Godzilla's adoptive son, Junior, out of spite. Making his way to Fukuoka, [=SpaceGodzilla=] converted the entire city into a series of giant crystal spires that drained life from the Earth and fed it into him, enabling him to become stronger and stronger. Slain by Godzilla and MOGUERA before he could repeat the process in other cities, [=SpaceGodzilla=] was described by Mothra's priestesses as an abomination and was as deliberately malevolent as a Heisei monster could get.

* TooDumbToLive: [=SpaceGodzilla=]. He travels billions of miles across the universe to come to Earth and start shit with Godzilla. That is a bad idea of galactic proportions.
