** The devil's Minoshiro, ''definitely''. But the garden-variety minoshiro register as more regular-cute on the UglyCute scale.
*** The normal Minoshiro seems to fit the description better: it has a big head, large eyes and stubby little limbs, but also gelatin-like skin and no proper mouth. The Devil's Minoshiro on the other hand does away with most of the cute traits, instead possessing an elongated body with dignified proportions, but also the same grotesque elements as the normal Minoshiro. YMMV, ofcourse.

While more conscious of his actions than the Gouma, he was still physically unable to stop the killing once he started. It's telling about his mental condition how he walked into hospital because of cold like nothing was wrong, right after his rampage, clearly unable to comprehend the consequences of his actions.

** It turns out that the Sacred Barrier [[spoiler:is actually meant to psychologically condition people to associate the outside world with the dark depths of their subconscious mind, so the entire world outside the protected areas is constantly being ravaged by the uncontrollable thoughts and emotions of the psychically talented people. Think of the Bakenezumi and how they probably used to be ordinary people.]]

* FridgeHorror: The children and Rijin the monk all show a disturbing tendency to pick the violent solution whenever they come across a conflict, as long as they aren't fighting against actual humans. It pretty plainly shows that for all the conditioning they go through, the PK-users are still prone of highly destructive behaviour, only barely kept in check by the social and genetic conditioning.

* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: The Hashimoto-Appelbaum Syndrome is a mental illness that pretty much forces its victims into this mould, reducing their ability to relate to their fellow human beings and eventually corrupting everything they touch subconsciously with no control over their power, finally turning into Gouma ("Karmic Demons").

* TearJerker: [[spoiler:Shun giving his collar to Saki and saying good bye to his pet dog Subaru.]] ItMakesSenseInContext.
** Episode 8 in general is this. You have Mamoru ''desperately'' trying to get Maria's attention only to find his efforts in vain, Shun and Satoru [[spoiler:breaking off their perfectly healthy relationship because of Shun's SanitySlippage]], and the above example [[spoiler:which definitely foreshadows that something horrible is going to happen to Shun.]]
** Episode 10 is pretty much one huge TearJerker, especially [[spoiler:Shun's death]].
*** Even before that climatic moment, there's Saki calling herself out on her inability to save [[spoiler:Shun]]. To see a 14 year old girl walk so close to the DespairEventHorizon is hard to watch.
*** [[spoiler:Subaru's death to a Fujonneko]] was pretty saddening to watch as well, especially when [[spoiler:Shun takes a moment to reflect on his pet dog's HeroicSacrifice.]]
*** On top of all that, [[spoiler:one would never expect Shun, of all people, to resign himself to his fate and feel so broken because of it. Seeing him do just that is ''heartbreaking'']]

* CrowningMomentOfAwesome: As Rijin leads the main characters out of the forest, their ambushed by an army of Bakenezumi. Rijin takes them all out by using his psychic powers that resembles a grim reaper. Needless to say, it has to be seen to be believed.
** Satoru [[spoiler:taking out an entire network of installments belonging to the hostile Ground Spider colony... by tossing a single blue torch.]]
** [[spoiler:Saki gives Satoru's Juryoku back. Cue a non-stop chain of [[CurbStompBattle Curb-Stomp Battles]] against the Tarantula colony.]]
** Saki suiting up and going stealth to [[spoiler:save Shun single-handedly]] in Episode 9. While it remains to be seen whether her mission will be successful, getting that far undetected past high security as a ''14 year-old girl'' is impressive.
