* TooCoolToLive: [[spoiler:O’Malley and her main colorful group of pirates.female pirates are the only actual pirates in a show called "pirate princess", put up a great showing against the OneManArmy samurai, and then (most of them) get blown to smithereens halfway through the series.]]

** The initial trailers, and several of the early episodes, seemed to indicate that the series was going to be a high seas adventure with Fena learning to be a pirate captain, sort of like a mashup between ''Manga/OnePiece'' and ''Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean''. Then the second half swerves in a completely different direction and introduces several high-end concepts like the nature of humanity and Fena being a witch with magical powers. Many wish the staff had just kept things simple and done a straightforward pirate story. Not helping matters is Fena herself has little to no agency in her own series because of this and [[https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/this-week-in-anime/2021-09-23/.177698 more than a few people noticed this.]]

It still deserves to be mention since this is a legit criticism of the series.

The third paragraph of They Wasted A Perfectly Good Character clearly states that main characters can't qualify, regardless of their apparent lack of utility in the story.

** Fena herself, despite being the main and title character. All throughout the series, Fena is rarely, if ever, allowed to actually do anything on her own, and it actively ignores opportunities to let her grow as a person or do anything that doesn't involve getting kidnapped, having the plot explained to her, or being saved by other people. Any attempt at letting her do something on her own is handwaved away, such as when she leads the party to where the coordinates are in the underground tomb, not because she herself does it, but because a mysterious voice said so. She's basically a PinballProtagonist with little to no agency in her own series, and [[https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/this-week-in-anime/2021-09-23/.177698 more than a few people noticed this.]]
