** The '' Monster‘’ episode alludes to that the greatest future monsters could be new virus and bacteria with epidemic potential. After the COVID 19 pandemic in 2020 really gives you shivers down your spine thinking about that.

** The ''Natural Disasters'' episode makes reference to Hurricane Andrew, which struck in 1992, as one of the costliest hurricanes to ever strike the US. Since the series ended in 1997, several more hurricanes have caused ''far'' more damage to the US, beginning with Hurricane Katrina in 2004 (125 billion USD in damages versus Andrew's 27.3 billion).
** The ''Dinosaur'' episode confidently states that we know dinosaurs are covered in scales. The episode aired in 1994, only just before [[ScienceMarchesOn the first fossils of unambiguous feathered dinosaurs were uncovered]] in 1996.

* ScienceMarchesOn: The series ran from 1994-1997, and its science facts can be a bit outdated. For example, ''Planet'' describes Pluto as a planet, when we know now it's a dwarf planet.
* TechnologyMarchesOn: Many of the series' special effects haven't aged particularly well. Smedley is an excellent example. While the animators managed to show how the bones move in relation to each other and he has a good walk cycle, he doesn't blend in especially well to the backgrounds and his running animation looks more like he's ice skating along a rail.

Added DiffLines:

** A shot of Manhattan's skyline shows the Twin Towers front and center.
** The ''Islands'' episode states that Ascension Island's populations of nesting seabirds have been decimated by feral cats. These have now been completely eradicated and birds are returning to the island.

** In universe: ''Dinosaur'' discusses how dinosaur reconstructions have changed due to new information, citing ''Iguanodon'' as an example. The original researchers believed it had a single horn on its nose like a rhino, but later paleontologists realized, after finding more intact specimens, what was thought to be a horn was actually a thumb claw.
