* HilariousInHindsight: In the episode, the fact that a previously obscure politician could set up a new party and then come to power via a LandslideElection is treated as something so absurdly improbable that it implies that "Saxon" has somehow been manipulating the UK population. Almost exactly a decade later, Emmanual Macron did exactly that, becoming President of France as head of a new party and off the back of a comparatively short political career.[[note]](In Macron's case, the explanation was far more mundane; the initial favourite, Francois Fillon's chances were destroyed when it emerged that he and his wife had previously been embezzling the government, and Marine Le Pen, who had the most support after Fillon and Macron, was considered to be too extreme right-wing to have any chance of being elected)[[/note]]

* FridgeBrilliance: Before the Master gasses his cabinet to death, he calls them all disgusting traitors and talks about how they abandoned their own parties when his got the upper hand. Where the Fridge Brilliance comes in is that during most of his appearances in the classic series, the Master's M.O. was to team up with some other alien or villain to attack the Earth, only for the other villain to betray him and force him into an EnemyMine with the Doctor. Out of all people, of ''course'' he would choose traitors to satisfy his bloodlust.
* FridgeHorror: The Master mentions how the Time Lords thought he'd be the "perfect warrior" for the Last Great Time War. With the knowledge that there was an incarnation of the Doctor who fought in the Time War, otherwise known as the "War Doctor", and how he was feared ''by both sides'', it raises the question of the amount destruction the Master could've brought if he never fled to the end of the universe.
** Additional FridgeHorror: We have only seen very few things scare the Master, but never to extent of what the Cruciform does. And yet nothing is revealed about the Cruciform, making you question what the hell it exactly is. The fact that it apparently didn't scare ''the War Doctor'' also raises some disturbing implications about what he did back in the Last Great Time War.

* EpilepticTrees: While Winters' being referred to as the "President-Elect of the United States" was just a goof on the part of Creator/RussellTDavies, the fact that almost all of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors' eras canonically take place a year or so after their actual airdates has resulted in some fans theorizing (mostly jokingly) that the episode takes place just after the 2008 Presidential Election, and that the outgoing UsefulNotes/GeorgeWBush saw what an idiot Winters was and allowed him to meet the Toclafane on his behalf in the hope that Winters would do something stupid, get himself killed, and allow his younger and more capable running-mate -- a certain UsefulNotes/BarackObama -- to instead become the next President.

* CriticalResearchFailure: Davies later admitted he used the title "President-elect" just because he thought it sounded cooler than simply "President," not knowing it actually refers to a newly elected President in the two months before they officially take office, with the actual position still held by the previous President in a "lame duck" period.

"Note that if the event in question is something inevitable, such as an actor dying, that's not necessarily this. We all have to go at some point. It would only be this trope if the death was somehow similar to how they died onscreen"
