** While he was never a hated character, Tom in the beta was a very divisive character by making quite a few idiotic decisions, such as not bothering to hide that he is an UndercoverAgent and causing Gabby's elimination just to spite Grett. In ''DisventureCamp'' he receives a necessary AdaptiveIntelligence by also trying to hide his identity and becoming a more sympathetic character by not causing anyone to be eliminated. It also helps that unlike the beta version, Tom does not easily forgive Jake for believing Ellie's lies, causing many to see him as a relatable character.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Hunter fell into TheScrappy territory [[spoiler:post Episode 9 for his tendency for UnintentionallyUnsympathetic moments, the way he handled his LoveTriangle at times such as when he avoided the girls or [[ATragedyOfImpulsiveness when he impulsively kissed Ally even though he told the girls to wait for his answer after the show]], as well as for his streak of 3 contrived immunity wins in a row (one of which he didn't even win and was handed to him). However, Episode 10 improved his popularity a little, restoring him back to his earlier BaseBreakingCharacter status. * [[BrokenBase/DisventureCamp Broken Base]]

* BrokenBase:
%%** Did Nick's AdaptationalJerkass personality in the remastered version of Season 1 do more good for his character, as it fleshed out his personality more in a fitting way for a RichBastard stereotype, allowing him to be a love to hate character for some and making him better utilized as a character than his original largely OutOfFocus counterpart? Or did the drastic change in personality do more harm than good for him, portraying him as an outright HateSink? Furthermore, regardless of one's opinion, there's also the fact that Nick was only really portrayed as a HateSink in [[spoiler:Episode 4]] whereas earlier episodes still gave him more sympathetic depths. If his personality was changed so much, should it have been done from the start so that it doesn't come out of nowhere and remains consistent? Or was it better that we were still able to sympathize with him for [[spoiler:the first three episodes]] before he became a HateSink?
%%** Who's more in the wrong regarding the Jake and Ellie debacle in Season 1? One side claims it's Ellie, since [[spoiler:she effectively threw away the bond she was developing with Jake all just to keep herself in the game, which resulted in her trusting a pair of well known traitors who had betrayed her before]]. Another side claims that it's Jake, because despite [[spoiler:having a greater bond with Tom than he has with Ellie, he still chose to trust a woman he was just starting to get to know compared to the guy he had feelings for, with his nasty attitude to Tom afterwards and the fact he never doubted Ellie's words doing more to damage his perspective]].
** Was Tess's decision to [[spoiler:keep quiet about the trio of Lake, Rosa Maria, and Riya teaming up with James and Aiden to vote off either her or Ally a correct one? On one hand, the LoveTriangle trio had disadvantage in numbers with the other 5 contestants teaming up against them. At least they didn't have to lose dignity begging anyone to join their side and didn't make deals with potentially drastic consequences with anyone. Furthermore, some claim doing any of that would've failed since Aiden prefers to side with Lake's trio and James followed suit. Avoiding doing so also allowed Tess, a girl who suffers from depression, to spend her last moments on the show happily with her friends instead of stressing over strategizing and being in the game. On the other hand, some could argue that even if Tess was fine with leaving the show with a smile, it was a selfish decision as it further worsened Ally and Hunter's chances to stay in the game. Some could also say that while convincing the girls' trio and Aiden to vote for anyone else would've been impossible, they still had the option to try to convince James (who likely didn't stick with his alliance anyway and voted for Ally instead of Tess) to vote with them for either Riya or Rosa Maria (as James likely wouldn't have wanted to vote for Lake to avoid angering Aiden), thus causing a tie. While it still doesn't guarantee the LoveTriangle trio staying in the game (especially if they chose to vote for Rosa Maria since, as the following episode reveals, she already had immunity totem by this point), it would've at least given them a 50-50 chance during a tie-breaker for things to turn out positively for them, which some could argue would've still been better than accepting the outcome and doing nothing.]]
** Hunter's [[spoiler:post-merge streak of winning immunity in the most contrived ways (first time because Lake's ring happens to quickly fall off so her victory isn't counted, second time because Nina tells Karol to share her immunity with Ally and Hunter for more drama, and the third time solely for being the only person to cross the finish line despite losing his partner along the way and accidentally having his blindfold taken off). There's one side of his fans who'll be relieved that he's safe for another episode, especially since the LoveTriangle trio is constantly targeted for elimination post-merge. However, others may easily find it annoying and compare it to equally contrived winning streak of Zoey in ''Total Drama All-Stars''. There's also the third camp of Hunter's fans who, while relieved that their favorite is safe, will admit that he keeps winning for the dumbest reasons and may be disappointed since that is bound to cause some fans to hate their favorite character for reasons outside of his control.]]
*** On the other hand, while him [[spoiler:winning immunity for the 4th time in a row in Episode 10 can be equally annoying to some, it's generally agreed that this was the one time he at least genuinely earned his victory.]]
** Riya's [[spoiler:FaceHeelTurn. Is it a great change to her character which finally gives her more plot relevance with an interesting arc which suits her character, and was it properly foreshadowed throughout the season? In other words, was she an actually well-written Scarlett from ''Pahkitew Island''? Or was she perfectly fine being a nice girl with IJustWantToHaveFriend plot, meaning the change perhaps even ruined her character, and was this change in personality too subtely foreshadowed, to the point it feels out of nowhere and out of character?]] Furthermore, which version of [[spoiler:post-FaceHeelTurn Riya is better? The one from Episode 8 where she feels remorse for choosing strategy over friendship after not warning Rosa to use her immunity totem on Lake and where she does so fueled by her paranoia of [[IJustWantToHaveFriends being left alone]] since Rosa only now revealing to her friends that she had found the totem means that she probably likes Lake more than her? Or the one from Episode 10 onwards where she's portrayed as a sneaky {{Jerkass}}?]]

** Was Alec always Fiore's MoralityPet? While Fiore still gives him some snarky comments from time to time, he is the only person whom Fiore tried to get to know better and she does apologize for a joke she made about Alec's wife (something she would not do towards other characters). Or did this start as a way for Fiore to manipulate Alec, like she did with the rest of the Purple Team? [[spoiler:It's later suggested however that he is a genuine MoralityPet as she seems horrified when he gets shot in Episode 9 despite knowing it was only during a stimulation. Moreover, in Episode 11, she states she doesn't want to leave him and is reluctant to do so when he rescues her from a giant scorpion then tells her to escape by herself]].
** As can be seen starting with [[spoiler:Episode 7]], Lake has a tendency to go too far once she feels the freedom to do anything. Does this mean her parents purposefully restricted her life so much in order to make sure she doesn't go overboard and doesn't potentially become a criminal, making them [[WellIntentionedExtremist well-intentioned extremists]]? Or are her parents really just AbusiveParents we first thought they were and Lake simply went too far the moment she tasted some freedom for the first time?
** Was Riya's attraction to Connor ever genuine? Or, considering [[spoiler:her later FaceHeelTurn]], was she manipulating him from the beginning? Sure, she did look concerned when Connor quit, but it could also been because she had just gotten Connor as an ally and without him, there was the possibility of her being the next boot.
** Were Riya's tears after [[spoiler:losing in the finale]] genuine or was it a case of someone still trying to gain sympathy from others in spite of acting as a {{Jerkass}} towards them earlier and feeling sorry for getting caught. rather than actually feeling sorry for their actions?
** Was Fiore always in a Christian school and its strictness was what contributed to her becoming an EnfantTerrible? Or was she just sent there as a punishment for her behavior on Season 1?

** Riya crying after [[spoiler:her loss in the finale of Season 2]]. It already caused mixed reaction back then, with many fans not buying her tears and seeing it as a case of someone who was sorry for being caught rather than genuinely sorry. It only gets worse by the time of ''All-Stars'', which reveals she hasn't learnt her lesson at all, with her career as villain actress making her believe it pays off being a villain even more, and with her [[LackOfEmpathy lacking in empathy]] even more as a result.

** [[spoiler:Riya]] is possibly tied with Hunter for the most drastic change in character perception, even though they don't go through as many changes as him. When the season first starts, the character essentially acts as a background character until the plot gives them something to do, and at that time audiences either liked the character but wished they did more, or were outright neutral towards them. Come the latter half of Season 2, [[spoiler:Riya goes through a FaceHeelTurn that results in her becoming the final antagonist for the season, which caused her reception to shatter the audience between those who enjoy the direction and think Riya serves as a decent villain to cap off the season, while others think the change is too abrupt and extreme for it to feel natural]].
* CommonKnowledge: Whenever Riya's [[spoiler:FaceHeelTurn]] is brought up, those who argue for how bad it was bring up the moment when [[spoiler:she leaves Aiden dangling on a cliff]] during the final challenge before leaving him to die, claiming that it was done deliberately in order to get rid of him. This is only partially true: while Riya ''does'' leave Aiden to die by [[spoiler:falling off a cliff]], what she was actually trying to do was BreakThemByTalking by telling Aiden how he wasn't cut out for the finale, all while walking towards him and Aiden walking backward, which eventually lead to the mentioned moment by accident.

While Ally does have her fans, most people now see her as generic.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: You’d be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t like Connor, due to his status as an older contestant with a friendly and encouraging personality, his struggles with his aging and trying to stay current with a younger generation causing many funny moments of awkwardness, and being one of the most openly vocal against Yul and his negative and awful attitude. Some people have even made plenty of fanarts featuring him.

** Ashley is possibly the most popular season 1 contestant [[spoiler:who didn't make it to the merge.]] She's a well-meaning, but brave cowgirl who has good interactions with characters like Will and Lill, and unlike the Beta version, she figures out Fiore's true nature before it's too late, [[spoiler: although she's still eliminated fairly early by Gabby's sole vote]]. She is also considered one of the prettiest girls in the season.
** Drew, [[spoiler:the second boot of the first season]], has a smaller but loyal fanbase who loves him for being a NiceGuy who writes in his notebook to communicate since he doesn't talk. The fact that he's one of the few characters who didn't apoear in the Beta version also makes him interesting.

** Dan has a mixed reception. Half the fanbase dislike how irrelevant he is to the story despite currently being in the competition over other characters. Him voting for Gabby in episode [[spoiler:3]] despite their bonding did not help matters. The other half likes his underdog status and how he managed to gain [[AscendedExtra more character than his beta version]], who did nothing but get eliminated first. His friendships with his teammates are also seen an endearing.
** While some people sympathize with Jake for having his ex cheat on him, his NiceGuy personality, and relationship with Tom, there are others who outright despise him for being unrealistically naïve and behaving like a ManChild when he feels like he's been wronged.
** Is Gabby an overly violent, annoying CaptainErsatz of WesternAnimation/TotalDrama contestant Sierra? Or is she genuinely funny with a softer side hidden away? Some fans side with the latter since episode 2 introduced her friendship with Dan with many praising her relationship with Ellie. Her detractors, however, side with the former. They also make special notice of her voice actress making her voice way too high pitched and noting how the narrative often seems to try and paint her in the right despite her often overly harsh and trigger-happy actions and behavior, such as her being sent off of her team for threatening to kill Nick being treated as her being bullied, [[spoiler:her random betrayal towards Dan being treated as her standing up for herself, and her betraying her alliance to try and side with the villainous trio with Ellie resulting in her boot being played as her being wrongfully blindsided]], and even go as far as accusing her of being a CreatorsPet.
** Some fans think [[spoiler: Will’s elimination was undeserved and wish his friendship with Lil and Ashley was explored more. Others think he’s an unfunny DJ bootleg who was too one-note.]]
** Yul. He's either funny and memorable thanks to his {{Jerkass}} personality that makes him a LoveToHate type of antagonist, or he's a completely irredeemable HateSink who can't even be taken seriously as an antagonist because he spends all his time being an asshole to everyone, therefore costing him his image as a master strategist, unlike James.
** Rosa Maria. She has detractors critizing her for being bland and uninteresting in comparison to the rest. She's also critized for her role of being almost solely LivingEmotionalCrutch to her friends which, while endearing in itself, rarely gives her any chances to develop as her own character. Her backstory of being a teen mom being merely mentioned thrice so far and barely further developing her character also adds to this. Her fans, however, admire how caring and thoughtful she is to everyone around her and her role of being TheHeart to Riya, Maggy, and Lake, especially moreso when she ends up being [[spoiler:the only member of the final five who hasn’t done anything questionable, making her a much welcome beacon of positivity in all the drama.]]
** Riya. Some viewers like her plot of IJustWantToHaveFriends and Bollywood actress personality, while the others despise her for being rather generic and not adding much to the story [[spoiler:for the first seven episodes]], much like aforementioned Rosa Maria. [[spoiler:Episode 8]] further breaks the base after [[spoiler:she betrays her alliance with Rosa Maria and Lake by not warning Rosa Maria to use her immunity totem on Lake despite learning she's being targeted for elimination, after becoming paranoid over Rosa keeping her idol a secret til that episode. Some claim this was a foolish and impulsive move that made her a traitor, while others cite her guilt over the action and how it was fueled by paranoia more than outright malice towards Lake.]] And then [[spoiler:Episode 10]] breaks the base even further now that [[spoiler:she betrayed her closest friend and ally, Rosa, framing her for stealing other belongings, effectively becoming another antagonist of the season, which some will be appalled by while others are glad that she has importance to the plot and that there is someone resembling a more typical main antagonist again.]]
** James and Aiden. Some people find both characters to be well-written and their chemistry to be entertaining. Others find them bland [[SpotlightStealingSquad screen-hoggers]] who are undeveloped as characters. Their actions in episodes 2 and 9 towards Karol has made them more divisive to the point of being [[DesignatedHero Designated Heroes]].

They Wasted A Perfectly Good Character is about a lack of screentime not handling.

** Rosa Maria. She's introduced as a [[TeenPregnancy Teen Mom]] who also acts as the TeamMom of her team. Unfortunately, she never develops beyond this archetype and stays solely as support for other characters' story arcs, particularly Lake and Riya.

I think this describes it better.

* FansPreferTheNewHer: While a BaseBreakingCharacter, you'd be hard pressed to find fans of Riya who prefer her self from the early half of Season 2 compared to her [[spoiler:post-FaceHeelTurn]] self from the latter half, as she was considered a pretty forgettable background character during early Season 2 while the latter half [[spoiler:gave her an interesting arc of going from a good/neutral person to a maliciously competitive one, and showed a strategic mindset she didn't show before]].
