** It didn't help when trolls started interfering with the ARG around the time of the "No Hands" videos, posting false leads leading people through other accounts and websites and things [[FunnyMoments only to lead to a photoshopped cover of]] ''[[MemeticMutation In The Aeroplane Over The Sea]]'' by Music/NeutralMilkHotel [[FunnyMoments with MC Ride's face photoshopped over the boy.]] [[MindScrew Then one of the leads supposedly debunked lead to the discovery of actual clues and hints, as alluded to on Flatlander's website,]] as it was already difficult to determine which clues were genuine and which ones weren't, let alone if ''any of them'' were.
*** At one point the ARG had somebody buying dog aspirin off the deep web.
*** As it turns out, ''none of them were.'' After the password was figured out for a .RAR containing what was thought to be a new EP (complete with a tracklist and everything), [[FunnyMoments only for it to be]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjBWqP8n0X8 Tim & Shim Do The Raps Out Of Their Mouths]]. ** Their ARGs, in which they frequently post very cryptic and creepy pictures with hidden puzzles all over 4chan and the Deep Web, and generally messing with everyone heavily.

* Epileptic Trees: Their ARGs spawn a lot of them, as well as Flatlander's whereabouts. For instance, a sizable amount of people believe that Flatlander was in Korea for SXSW, and that Hill and Ride were playing over a pre-recording of Hill's drums. (Though this is not beyond reason, Skype calls have a lag to them that would've made playing live over skype ''extremely'' difficult and impractical, along with Flatlander's website changing to pictures from Korea around the same time.)

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: It is unclear how much of the band's image is genuine or not. Many believe they are all putting on an act, and from there are either {{Magnificent Bastard}}s or [[YourMileageMayVary massive try-hards.]]

** In the few interview we have of the band, Hill does all the talking with Andy chirping in every so often. MC Ride remains silent.
