** Walnut the Forretress from ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'' is divisive, especially for Chugga picking her as his StoneWall over [[StarterMon Baggage the Umbreon]]. Supporters agree with Chugga's assessment that Umbreon's moveset is too lacking in ''Colosseum'' and that it was better to make use of a less popular and available Pokémon, noting that Chugga will have plenty of opportunities to use Umbreon in later [=LPs=]. Detractors of Walnut, however, feel Chugga's reasonings for using her are hypocritical, as while Chugga claimed that Umbreon wouldn't be able to do much besides "Bite and Toxic stall" Foretress ultimately spent many turns either using Rapid Spin (which is a move '''much''' weaker and more situational than Bite) or Toxic stalling, noting that Chugga didn't get Spikes (the main reason he cited for using Forretress) until the post-game and seldomly used the move at that.

** Over the years, Emile has gained flak for his negative viewpoint on ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire]]'' with him going as far on one occasion to call them the worst mainline Pokémon game[[note]]Though he followed it up by mentioning he's never played the Sinnoh remakes nor does he plan to[[/note]]. ** Haywire the Zebstrika from ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' is divisive with fans just due to how overshadowed she ended up being the entire LP (usually shown up by Emile's Krookodile). She certainly has her fans, having some perfect IV's and admittedly getting better once Emile finally gets some decent moves on her, like Overheat and Wild Charge, while others feels Zebstrika in general is just a Pokémon that tends to suffer from CantCatchUp at higher levels and feel Emile could have chosen a better member for his team (that would still qualify as being underrated). Emile even addresses this in the LP proper, bringing up a vocal part of his viewers that begged him to switch out Haywire (many of them actually wanted Emile to break his usual "no Legendary rule" and add Zekrom to the team, so that there would still be Electric-type coverage), and even admits to having seriously considered retiring Haywire before lamenting that he ''really'' wanted to give her another chance to prove herself and try and make her work... Though by the time ''VideoGame/PokemonBlack2AndWhite2'' rolled around, Chugga admitted that like Trifecta below, he doesn't think of Haywire very fondly in hindsight.

** Walnut the Forretress from ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'' is divisive, especially for Chugga picking her as his StoneWall over [[StarterPokemon Baggage the Umbreon]]. Supporters agree with Chugga's assessment that Umbreon's moveset is too lacking in ''Colosseum'' and that it was better to make use of a less popular and available Pokémon, noting that Chugga will have plenty of opportunities to use Umbreon in later LPs. Detractors of Walnut however feel Chugga's reasonings for using her are hypocritical, as while Chugga claimed that Umbreon wouldn't be able to do much besides "Bite and Toxic stall" Foretress ultimately spent many turns either using Rapid Spin (which is weaker than bite) or Toxic stalling, noting that Chugga didn't get Spikes (the main reason he cited for using Forretress) until the post-game and seldomly used the move at that.

** Pandora the Absol from [[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire the ''Emerald'' LP]] was widely derided upon her capture due to lacking any [=STAB=] moves to compliment her typing (prior to [[VideoGame/PokemonDiamondAndPearl Gen IV]] moves were categorized by type with all Dark-Type moves being special), many predicted she would be the weak link in the LP. Ultimately, however, Pandora proved to be an amazing asset against several Gym Leaders and even managed to single-handedly defeat the first half of the Elite 4, with many now considering her to be the M.V.P of the team.
** Munchkin the Granbull in ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'' was disliked for being an EleventhHourRanger who took the place of widely assumed (and originally planned [[EnsembleDarkhorse Flygon]]) as the team's final member, with Munchkin losing their first onscreen battle [[DiggingYourselfDeeper only making things look more dire]]. Ultimately however, Munchkin proved their worth in subsequent battles thanks to their strong attacks and Intimidate ability making for good kinship with his other team members.

** Chugga mentions in ''Colosseum'' that most of the time in his ''Pokémon'' playthroughs, the last Pokémon he gets for his team tends to get forgotten or even rejected by fans, as they suffer from LateCharacterSyndrome and have trouble finding a niche before the ending arrives. There's Tessie the Lapras from ''[=FireRed=]'' (an unevolving gift Pokémon obtained late in the game), Volvagia the Dratini from ''Crystal'' (who suffered from Gen 2's level curve and didn't become a Dragonite until the penultimate episode of the series), Pandora the Absol from ''Emerald'' (another unevolving late-game catch, and a frail one to boot), and Munchkin the Granbull from ''Colosseum'' (a weird Normal-type gotten right before the final dungeon, and many people were hoping that [[EnsembleDarkhorse Vibrava/Flygon]] would be the final team member instead). In fairness, Chugga usually has good reasons for picking each team member, and last choices have been no exception.

** While Trifecta seemed to be the end of the sixth member curse, Supernova the Clefable in ''Platinum'' and Haywire the Zebstrika in ''White'' took up the ButtMonkey mantle, with the former becoming infamous for the ineffectiveness of her low accuracy moves and the latter getting shown up by other team members becoming a recurring joke throughout the series, ultimately reaching their peaks with Supernova becoming the team member to sit out of Victory Road to free up the HM Slave spot and Haywire was replaced by [[OlympusMons Zekrom]] for the final battles. Chugga would later go on to bring up the amount of flak Haywire had received and how he'd even seriously considered the suggestion to replace her, which is practically unheard of for his Pokémon team members.

** Volvalgia the Dragonite from the [[VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver ''Pokémon Crystal'' LP]]. Fans appreciate Chugga making use of a [[InfinityMinusOneSword Pseudo-Legendary]] that has been [[PowerCreep overlooked with time]] allowing the Dratini line time to shine and wish Chugga would use a Pseudo-Legendary again in a future team. Detractors argue that Volvalgia proves why Chugga '''shouldn't''' use these types Pokemon as they don't get much use of [[AwesomeButImpractical]] their actual power in single-player, with Volvalgia not reaching its final form [[EleventhHourSuperpower until the penultimate episode]], with her being used against two of Red's Pokémon.

** While she had a ''loud'' hatedom, Trifecta from his ''Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness'' LP had more than a few defenders who liked that Emile was giving an overlooked Pokémon some time to shine and argued that most of her losses weren't even her fault. Her better performance in the post-game helped win a few detractors over, but as seen from this page alone and Chugga's later regrets, this sentiment definitely isn't universal.

* UnexpectedCharacter: TransAudienceInterpretation: When Chugga first encountered Lasagna the Crustle in his ''Black 2 & White 2'' LP, they initially were a female crab, only to become a male crab instead when Emile reset the game due to not having sturdy. This caused many people (including Emile himself) to interpret Lasagna as non-binary, or as a trans male.

** Pango and Croque ended up being Emile's least popular villagers in his ''New Leaf'' LP, however many also feel he unfairly chose them as the designated bad guys of the village after bad first impressions and at times had to bend over backward to keep that narrative going. Even taking this into account that one is supposed to treat the villagers with established personalities, some still feel he treated them a bit unfairly, as he seemed to be intentionally twisting whatever they said to be as negative as possible[[note]]For example, Croque mistakes him for a ghost after he returns from his long absence in Welcome Amiibo and begs him to leave him alone, and Chuggaa interprets this as Croque wishing death on him. Towards the end of the series, however, he did come to accept Croque's catchphrase as just something he says without any ill intent, and agreed to bury the hatchet with him (Pango had long since moved out by this point).
