* MoralEventHorizon: At first we think Bayard crosses this when Ellony dies because of him and basically shrugs it off and mocks Khaster for grieving. Then he deliberately, slowly, and brutally kills Tayven, and it's so horrible that the characters who know about what happened that night are sworn to secrecy. [[spoiler: As it turned out, Tayven lived, but considering this event still completely broke Khaster and very nearly did kill Tayven, it counts.]]

* CompleteMonster: All the other characters make this claim about Bayard. Considering he not only does horrible things, he has zero remorse about it, they're not wrong. Even his own mother, who claims him for a favorite son, knows that he's a monster and tells him this to his face. Even Varencienne, who used to adore him, turns away from him when she learns what he is.
