* ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'': At the end of ''-REVELATOR-'', plucky British time traveler Axl Low is faced with the choice of either using his powers to finally go back to his own time (as he has always wanted through the series), or using them to save Sol and Jack-O at the cost of erasing his old timeline and being stranded in the future. If he chose to go back and let them die, nobody would have ''ever known''. [[HeroicSacrifice But...]]

Even if I abandoned this world, she'll smile and tell me "It must've been such a tough decision." That's the kind of girl she is... [[WhamLine That's not good enough for me.]] It's not good enough! If my eyes are so clouded... If I let that happen... How the hell am I supposed to see that smile of hers? That's why I... '''''[[HellYesMoment GIVE 'EM HELL, BOSS!]]'''''

** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemFates'': Corrin in the end in ''Conquest'' ends up directly dealing with this dilemma. After spending so long having to keep mum about the issues [[spoiler:behind Garon's possession]] for so long and having to abandon their ideals while constantly in doubt about himself, ends up being confronted face-to-face with [[spoiler:a possessed Takumi]], driven to madness by his hatred. Azura immediately suggests [[spoiler:he]] needs to be put down, but Corrin ends up trying to get [[spoiler:Takumi]] to aim at ''Corrin'' for what they did to [[spoiler:him]], despite the obvious risk to themselves and how much [[spoiler:Takumi has lost himself in his possession. There was no expectations of Corrin to do that, yet this ends up being in part of how the two are able to forgive each other in Corrin's temporary visit to afterlife]].

* In ''VideoGame/HorizonZeroDawn'', Aloy meets a man named Olin very early in the game who is a scout for the Eclipse, resulting in the entire plot happening [[spoiler:including the death of Aloy's new friend and her father figure]]. Eventually, Aloy will get a chance to confront Olin directly, and he reveals that he is working the for Eclipse [[spoiler:because his family is their hostage, and he didn't order the attack that day, but him being present meant the BigBad was able to see her through his Focus device]]. Ultimately this is his fault, but he is remorseful since he never wanted to do this in the first place. His death is optional, and killing him neither hinders or helps your progress. This is also one of the few choices where you can't take a middle-stance (if you pick the logic option, Aloy cannot decide and you're forced to either pick the compassion or aggression option). [[spoiler:Should you kill him for revenge, he asks you to free his family, but never tell them what he did. Should you spare him out of sympathy, he shows genuine shock and helps you break out his family before vowing to pay your kindness forward.]] Either way, once your choice is made, he leaves the game, and the choice is something only Aloy will know.
