* NothingIsScarier: The scene in which the Fleshlumpeater devours a sleeping boy is made even scarier because [[GoryDiscretionShot we don't actually see him do it]]. Instead, when he reaches into the boy's window, it cuts to Sophie whose reaction says it all before cutting back to Fleshlumpeater obviously chewing something we can't see.

* AdaptationalAlternateEnding: The ending is changed significantly from the book. [[spoiler:For one, the Fleshlumpeater is a much bigger problem in the climax when it turns out that he wasn't among the giants tied up by the soldiers and has to be dispatched by the BFG siccing a living nightmare on him. * NoExportForYou: Despite being made in widescreen, this film was only released in [[Creator/TheCannonGroup Cannon Cinemas]] in the United Kingdom, running from November 1987 until April 1988. The rest of the world got it as a direct-to-video release.
** It wasn't even seen again in its original aspect ratio until 2012, when it was digitally restored and released on DVD and Blu-ray.

''The BFG'' is a 1989 animated movie made by Creator/CosgroveHall for Creator/TheCannonGroup. It is based on [[Literature/TheBFG the novel by Roald Dahl]]. It stars Creator/DavidJason as the voice of the Big Friendly Giant and Amanda Root as the voice of his human friend Sophie.

* DeletedScene: The animated film has one of these, and it is unknown why it was deleted. Taking place before the BFG and Sophie arrive at his Dream Cave, the two are on their way back from Dream Country when they again approach the other giant's domain. Sophie is somehow separated and placed in peril when she accidentally sits upon a giant Dragonfly that flies off and drops her amongst the sleeping giants, who begin to stir from her scent. The BFG rescues her before they awake and begin scouring the land, convinced there is a human present. The shot of the giants departing is later reused in the film as part of the Queen's nightmare of them and their heinous acts.

* InMemoriam: The animated film was dedicated to the memory of George Jackson, who was an animator that worked on the film, and to the memory of Ballard Berkeley, who provided the voice of the Head of the Army.
