* LastNameBasis: Downplayed. Most of the demon lords are referred to by their last name plus their title, except for close friends/relatives.
** Prince Xavier calls Lord Lust by his first name (Richard), because [[spoiler: they are sleeping with each other]].
** Xavier also calls Lady Sloth, Phoebe, because he seems to have known her for a long time.

* DemonDevilDistinction: Demons are the decendants of one of the [[SevenDeadlySins seven Demon Lord lineages]], and Devils are demon/angel hybrids.

** Played straight with [[spoiler: Lilith's scars from her near death at the hands of Paymon just magically disappearing within several episodes. Justified, as Lilith has supernatural healing capabilities due to being a devil.]]

* SexyDimorphism: An extremely downplayed and justified example with Lilith. She is the most human-appearing of the devils, with five fingers and toes, a lack of horns (though she does start growing them in Season 2), and pink instead of red skin. She still does look like a devil, just less so than her brothers. Her and her brothers also are demon-angel hybrids, and some look for human than others, so it could have been luck-of-the-draw.

* {{Hellhound}}: The royal family of Hell keep a few of the ''Guardian'' variety as protectors. [[spoiler: Lamp]] is also a ''Guardian'' Hellhound.

* MoreExperiencedChasesTheInnocent: Lilith is definitely not a virgin, and she ends up having a crush on Sam, who had never been in a relationship. She fell in love with Sam because she was genuinely trying to get to know her better and help her without any ulterior motives. Sam also didn't know who Lilith was when they first met.
** Unusually for this trope, Lilith isn't really a sweet-talker and frequently embarrasses herself in from of Sam, and Sam can be really smooth when she wants to.

* SexyDimorphism: An extremely downplayed example with Lilith. She is the most human-appearing of the devils, with five fingers and toes, a lack of horns (though she does start growing them in Season 2), and pink instead of red skin. She still does look like a devil, just less so than her brothers.

* MagicallyBindingContract: It is possible to make a binding contract with a devil or demon, though no actual signing is required; it's done through a magical handshake. Doing this seems to leave a square mark on the demon/devil's skin, at least in the cases of [[spoiler: Lilith]], who has plenty of these and [[spoiler: Paymon]] whose chest is absolutely ''covered'' in them.

* NothingButSkinAndBones: Zero is so skinny that he has literally ''[[{{Pun}} zero]]'' muscle on him; you can see his ribcage and spine quite clearly. Justified, as Zero is a reaper and he [[spoiler: died of starvation]].
** Averted after he [[spoiler: touches Sam's halo to stop him from glitching.]]

* SupernaturallyValidatedTransPerson: Zero was trans while alive, and after he died his soul took on the gender that he had always identified as.
** The creator confirmed that his human form, Craig, was drawn to make it obvious that he was assigned female at birth, while his soul took on the form of an assigned male at birth person.

* GoodIsNotSoft: As explained by Sam, all angels are trained to be capable warriors as soon as they enter school.

* SupernaturallyValidatedTransPerson: [[spoiler:Zero]] was trans while alive, and after they died their soul took on the gender that they'd always identified as.
