** The “Christmas Warol” arc’s Bonus Panels contains a side plot involving Franchise/ProfessorLayton and [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Aerith]] being evil. In the final bonus panels of the arc, [[Franchise/StreetFighter Chun-Li]] is seen talking to some fellow audience members who didn’t enjoy the Layton/Aerith plot as they think the sex and violence clashes with the wholesomeness of the play. Said people are [[VideoGame/FarCry3 Vaas Montenegro]], [[VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoV Trevor Phillips]], and [[VideoGame/ConkersBadFurDay Conker]], whose home video games have plenty of said sex and violence.

* HaHaHaNo: In "[[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/bug-type-pokemon-everyone-is-home/ Bug-type Pokemon]]", Kazuya, Incineroar and Sephiroth are greeted by [[TheRival Nemona]], who introduces them to Paldea and all of its [[ObviousBeta glitchy, buggy glory]].

** Samus after Little Mac had regressed to a toddler for being in the Rewind Spring for too long in "[[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/its-rewind-time-everyone-is-home/ It's Rewind Time]]".
** Sonic after finding out that the [[VideoGame/{{Portal}} Portal Gun]] was crushed by the rampaging Titan Pokémon in "[[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/maus-haus-everyone-is-home/ Maus Haus]]", preventing him and the others from returning home with it. [[ProfanityPolice Arven calls him out on his language]].

* ThousandYardStare: In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/twitching-streamer-everyone-is-home/ Twitching Streamer]], Iono develops one from being starstruck. Shortly after meeting Sora, he introduces her to Mickey Mouse. Iono becomes so overwhelmed by having Mickey on her livestream that she could barely speak. Then Sora brings out Arceus. Iono then turns to the camera with an empty stare in her eyes.

** {{Exploited}} by Bayonetta to revive the fighting game characters, thanks to a tip from [[Franchise/MortalKombat Scorpion]], by mimicking a KO screen with the help of Flying Pikmin.
** [[spoiler:{{Discussed|Trope}} in regards to Pyra/Mythra. Turns out that Sephiroth's poison didn't kill them because blades can't die from poisoning and simply fainted. They would usually recover after leaving combat, but being in a house with fighters that classify as monsters meant that they technically were stuck in a combat situation.]]

** [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/smash-brothers-in-arms-everyone-is-home/]] [[spoiler:after getting rid of the maushold infestion at the Smash House, Palutena is glad that the war did not cause any casualities... Until Link notices that his arm was chopped off by one of the Maushold now serving it as their Hunt Trophy on their little conquest]]
* AndNowYouMustMarryMe: In the Hyrule sub-arc, the Great Fairy becomes obsessed with Luigi and forces him to marry her. Luigi, completely terrified, flees on the day of the wedding, [[{{Bridezilla}} angering the Great Fairy]].

* AscendedExtra: After several comics of Incineroar, Kazuya, and baby Piranha Plant traveling to the other worlds to revive the other Smash fighters on their own, Kirby joins them in reviving the Belmonts, and immediately afterward every revived character besides Bowser (who stayed behind to watch the remaining bodies) travels to Hyrule to revive the Zelda characters (with Kazuya and Incineroar taking backseats for the next several comics). Following comics show that now everyone is making an effort to revive their fellow fighters and not just Incineroar and Kazuya.

* BabyMorphEpisode: In "It's Rewind Time", Little Mac is de-aged into a toddler after accidentally being left in the Rewind Spring for too long. [[spoiler:He returns to his proper time thanks to Dialga.]]

** Ice Climbers: With Madeline's help, Kazuya and Incineroar find some 1-UP Corns.
** Simon and Richter: Alucard helps Incineroar, Kazuya, and Kirby collect a couple of Magic Crystals from boss monsters in Castlevania.

** Zelda and Young Link: Peach and Daisy bring them back by using fairies

** Olimar and Ridley: Planted by Pikmin on PNF-404 to revive as part-Pikmin.

** Inklings: Get splatted and revived by a homemade respawn point, though too much power gets used, so they come out looking like Handsome Squidward (they get returned to normal later by Nova).

** Byleth: She was actually brought back immediately thanks to Sothis' Divine Pulse, but chose to fake her death to stop any backup plans Sephiroth might have in store
** Corrin and Chrom: Get revived by a Bifrost Staff by Mii Gunner dressed up as a maid.

** Cloud: Tifa suggests using a large and beautiful Phoenix Down, and Barret is able to do the job using one of Kazooie's feathers.

** "Hylian Invasion" (amusingly also related to the shrine) has the Smashers realizing that they can use Dialga to travel 100 years into the future. Dialga declared that it would be possible if he used Young Link's Ocarina of Time as an aid, but it would be unsafe to head to Hyrule because it was far from Sinnoh and they can't leave the dead bodies unattended for too long. Isabelle stated her wish that they had a way to quickly navigate both time and space. Arceus and Dialga stare at each other for two beat panels, then Arceus asks if they had another Pokéball (to catch Palkia).

** In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/miiracle-cure-everyone-is-home/ Miiracle Cure]], the end punchline is a nod to [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/no-fun-sans-sans-everyone-is-home/ this strip]] where the Mii Gunner wears the [[VideoGame/{{Undertale}} Sans costume]] full-time to be accepted by the other fighters.
** In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/brotrip-everyone-is-home/ Brotrip]], Incineroar being a Pokémon trainer is a nod to [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/kalos-christmas-everyone-is-home/ Kalos Christmas]], where he tried to catch replacement Pokémon.

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: King K. Rool during the early stages of Everyone Is Home used to be portrayed as a gentleman MeanCharacterNiceActor, had an affable tone towards everyone, and even lacked his bloodshot eye. Later on, he would go back to being unambiguously grouped as a villain, and he got his bloodshot eye back, though like many of the other villains, he has standards as he's the first one to tell everyone that Banjo and Kazooie's bodies are missing and refuses to join Sepiroth.

** When Link is put into the Shrine of Resurrection, he's declared not to be able to reawaken for another century, leading his portrait to be colored but marked with a question mark for each strip. * ChekhovsSkill: [[MeaningfulBackgroundEvent In the background on one panel of]] [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/metroid-med-everyone-is-home/ Metroid Med]], the Duck Hunt Duck proves to be a natural shot with the Arm Cannon. [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/duckfight-everyone-is-home/ The next comic]] sees the duck earn the extra lives necessary to bring back the ''Franchise/StarFox'' fighters by way of scoring a hundred hit points on a stage.

** When the group go to Kalos to find Xerneas so they can revive the rest of the Pokémon fighters, they find Incineroar trying to catch replacement Pokémon with no luck. While ranting, he tosses one of his catches into a Wonder Trade machine... which pops out Xerneas in return.

** Ness and Lucas just so happen to be slurping on cups of Lifenoodles (the revive item from their game series) just after Spring-Man reveals that Min-Min wanted to replicate the recipe.

** Medusa has to face the full might of Alucard, Kirby, Kazuya, Incineroar, and Kirby.

** Before Arceus can deliver divine punishment to the group, Sora throws a Master Ball and captures it in [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/psalm-493-everyone-is-home/ Psalm 493]].

* DecompositeCharacter: Sheik is not a transformation of Zelda in this comic, as they are each from different part of the Timeline.

** If Isabelle 2 is as deserving of Hell as the original Isabelle, then her reaction to seeing Kirby trying to use a decapitated Mario penguin's head to revive King Dedede is this.

* EvilAllAlong: We all knew Sephiroth is evil, but then he turns a new leaf following the Pyra/Mythra incident. Then come [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/dinner-despair-everyone-is-home/ Dinner Despair]], turns out his nice guy shtick was all an act to lethally poison everyone and torment Cloud (who was trying to warn everyone about this but was ignored), who also dies. Thankfully, [[SpannerInTheWorks Kazuya and Incineroar didn't fall victim and plan on resurrecting everyone]], and in addition to that [[spoiler:Kirby survived being poisoned, Samus wasn't present when the dinner took place, Byleth was immediately revived by Sothis but she played dead until Sephiroth left and went on her own quest to stop him once and for all, Pyra/Mythra merely fainted because of the poisoning but couldn't auto-heal by themselves due to being stuck in battle mode because of the presence of monsters, and Joker barely survived the poisoning with 1 HP left thanks to Byleth giving him Pichu's Focus Band, but was still left unconscious.]]
* ExactWords: Arceus suggests to find Xerenas to help revive everyone, which he describes as "a blue quadruped with glorings horns". Except he never decided to elaborate that he meant either "find the blue quadruped with glowing horns ''in the Kalos region''" or find the blue quadruped with glowing deer antlers, because Samus and Pikachu (in Sinnoh) just so happen to cross paths with Dialga -- a blue quadruped with glowing horns.

** Before resurrecting the ''Mario'' crew, Incineroar doodles a mustache on Rosalina... and shaves her head, [[GuyOnGuyIsHot positions Mario and Bowser as if they were about to have a passionate kiss]], [[DragQueen dresses Bowser Jr. in drag]], strips Luigi, Daisy, Peach and Wario down to their underwear and [[AThreesomeIsHot positions the former three in a threesome]], and [[OverlyLongGag shaves off the latter's mustache]]. [[{{Revenge}} In turn]], they all shave off part of his fur, with Rosalina using it to make a wig, Wario a moustache, and Peach and Daisy [[FurBikini bikinis]] ([[MsFanservice Which they show off quite a lot]]).

* FakeDefector: ...[[spoiler:It turns out Meta Knight never joined Sephiroth's side at all. The Smashers simply had Kirby pose as Meta Knight to trick Sephiroth, and Kirby drops the ruse when Snake gets Sephiroth in a choke hold to smack a Friend Heart at Sephiroth's face.]]

** Sephiroth only went for the ''Smashers'' and not the Assist Trophies. So the likes of Waluigi and Alucard were able to help revive the other Smasheres as well.

* GrossUpCloseUp: When it came time to reviving Sonic, Tails suggests that they use the Princess kiss method. Peach immediately refuses once she takes a good look at Sonic's rotten corpse.

* HaHaHaNo: In "[[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/bug-type-pokemon-everyone-is-home/ Bug-type Pokemon]], Kazuya, Incineroar and Sephiroth are greeted by [[TheRival Nemona]], who introduces them to Paldea and all of its [[ObviousBeta glitchy, buggy glory]].

* IronicName: "A Christmas Wariol" has Jin playing the role of Tiny Tim...except Jin is canonically billed in at 6'.

** In a preview for one of the bonus strips while the Smashers are in Hyrule, the text specifically mentions that The Great Fairy is forcing Luigi to marry her so things would not be lost on viewers come [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/of-dogs-and-ducks-and-horses-everyone-is-home/ Of Dogs and Ducks...and Horses]].

* KnightOfCerebus: Yes, Sephiroth has his funny moments here and there, but staying true to his character, is genuinely evil and sticks out of the group like a sore thumb. This reaches his apex with Dinner Despair, [[TheBadGuyWins successfully poisoning everyone and taunting Cloud one last time before escaping]]. Thankfully, Kazuya and Incineroar intend on bringing everyone back. Sephiroth returns in [[spoiler:[[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/sora-at-the-door-ah-everyone-is-home/ Sora is at the Door-ah]]]] to kill Bowser (who wasn't able to find a disguise perfect for Hyrule) and destroy the rest of the bodies, but [[spoiler:Sora's]] intervention saves both the Koopa King and everyone else. In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/hellraisers-everyone-is-home/ Hellrasiers]], he tries to kill them all again with Giratina, only for [[BigDamnHeroes Doomguy, Villager, Isabelle (the original one), and Bayonetta to arrive at just the right time]]. One horrible memory later, and sticks to the original plan of taking Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, and Xerneas. When Dedede, Young Link, Zelda, and Kirby find him in his Elden Ring hideout, he's in the middle of making a plan, and they beat him up offscreen. He then flees to the [[VideoGame/KirbyAndTheForgottenLand Forgotten Land]], hoping they don't find him, [[VilerNewVillain but considering the antagonistic force in that game]]...

* LongGame: Sephiroth admits to having played this trope, playing the brain-damaged nice guy until he finally got everyone poisoned... [[SpannerInTheWorks except for Kazuya, Incineroar]], [[spoiler:Kirby (who survived because he is Kirby), Samus (who left on a mission before Sephiroth could poison her and left a spare varia suit behind), Byleth (who was immediately revived by Sothis, played dead until Sephiroth left the Smash Mansion, and departed on her own quest to put a stop to him), Pyra/Mythra (who were fainted due to Blades not being able to killed via poison, and unable to auto-heal due to the presence of many monstrous fighters), and Joker (who was left with 1 HP thanks to Byleth's quick thinking but still required external healing afterwards).]]

** Played straight with Sephiroth thanks to the change of Heart finally setting in.

** In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/of-dogs-and-ducks-and-horses-everyone-is-home/ Of Dogs and Ducks... and Horses]], Bowser shows Sora a list of all the fighters. They are listed under three categories: "Revived!", "?????", and "Working On!". The ones under "Working On!" are characters that can be revived through their respective means, while those under "?????" still apply for the FridgeHorror aspect of [[ReplacementGoldfish replacement]].
** In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/metroid-med-everyone-is-home/ Metroid Med]], the Duck Hunt Duck can be seen using Samus' Arm Cannon to shoot down an enemy. The next comic, [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/duckfight-everyone-is-home/ Duckfight]], sees them use the Arm Cannon again to get the extra lives for the ''Franchise/StarFox'' fighters.

* MilestoneCelebration: InUniverse example. In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/psalm-493-everyone-is-home/ Psalm 493]], Sora is the 1,000th visitor in the Pokémon center, and is awarded a Master Ball for such achievement.

* MundaneUtility: Several smashers use their various psychic powers to... cheat at poker.

** In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/mr-arts-crafts-everyone-is-home/ Mr. Arts & Crafts]], Hero is seen wearing paper cutouts that make him look like [[Franchise/DragonBall Vegeta]]. His home series, ''VideoGame/DragonQuest'', has character design by Creator/AkiraToriyama, who created Dragon Ball.

* NoEnding: The plotline of the Great Fairy forcing Luigi to marry her is left unsolved. Luigi flees from her the day of the wedding, but it is not known [[WhatHappenedToTheMouse what became of the Great Fairy after this]] and Luigi simply reunites with the rest of the Smashers once the Hyrule sub-arc is finished.

** How do you know Bayonetta has been hit hard by Simon dumping her? She's not wearing her Smash attire, rather she's sulking and wearing a plain sweater.

* OutOfFocus: Pichu's masochism, an exaggeration from its original Smash appearance, was a prominent gag in the early days of the comic, whether as the main punchline or a background gag. Later on, Pichu would be side-lined in terms of screentime to the point where its masochism was hardly one of its defining traits. %%most explicitly shown in "Defibrillamon", where Pichu's self-harming tendencies was pushed aside for the main punchline of it and Pikachu being jacked up in electricity.

** The Yiga clan learns the hard way why it is ''not'' a good idea to offer Ganondorf's friends as sacrifices. This includes the Ice Climbers who are children.
* PaperThinDisguise: Whenever the groups travel to different areas to revive/replace the fighters in the "Everyone is dead" arc, they will usually change their attire to blend in with the region. In Sinnoh, the animal fighters dress up as Pokémon, and Cynthia thinks that Kazooie is a real Ho-oh.

** [[spoiler:As it turns out, Samus wasn't at the Kazuya welcoming party because she left for [[VideoGame/MetroidDread a mission to ZDR weeks prior]] and thus was not poisoned by Sephiroth. She left a spare varia suit behind and everyone thought that her body was inside it, so when she calls for help, she gets surprised by Bowser reacting to her being alive.]]

* ReversePsychology: This is how Incineroar manages to talk the Isabelle of Buttville Island to leave with him and Kazuya. After she makes a point of refusing to go, opting to stay and wait for the island representative to return (even though it's been eight months since she was last seen), Incineroar states that he understands her stance, as she seems busy and the task they need her for would require a ton of research, hard work, and problems to solve... And one cut later, she angrily arrives at the Smash Mansion, lugging suitcases.

** The loss.jpg formation is snuck in every instance or two. You may find it on a bathroom sign (in Dinner Despair), or even star formation (in Cranky King)!

* SanitySlippage: Implied, but not outright confirmed. Sephiroth in [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/hellraisers-everyone-is-home/ Hellraisers]] has much more detail and exaggeration on his face, and his dialogue (with the exclamation marks) indicates a raised voice and yelling. This is a far cry from his appearance in [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/sora-at-the-door-ah-everyone-is-home/ Sora at the Door-ah]], where he is aware that his magnum opus is being undone, but still keeps a calm attitude and a normal voice. It is implied that his sanity takes hits at seeing his greatest masterpiece being slowly undone.

** During the communal shower in [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/showers/ Royal Belly]], multiple characters have their private parts covered with soap bubbles.

** When Zelda wakes up naked during the Tears of The Kingdom arc, her breasts are covered first with a few Little Froxes then in dust clouds.

* SillyReasonForWar: In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/fall-out-everyone-is-home/ Fall Out]], several Smashers get into a heated argument, which later escalates into an all-out brawl, over whether fall is a lovely or lousy season.

* SparedByTheAdaptation: In ''[[VideoGame/PokemonScarletAndViolet Pokemon Scarlet]]'', [[spoiler:Professor Sada had died protecting a Koraidon from a more hostile Koraidon two years prior to the events of the game. In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/death-averted-from-above-everyone-is-home/ Death (Averted) From Above]], the tragedy was averted thanks to the Smashers' fight for the champion title resulting in them crashing down onto the hostile Koraidon]].

** For the "Sephiroth Brings Despair" Arc, Sakurai ends up being this in the long run: by ensuring Kirby locks Incineroar in the basement, Incineroar is safe from the poisoning. Moreover, he also had Sora be given an invitation to Smash, meaning that Sora arrives just in time to stop Sephiroth from ensuring the dead Smashers at that point stay dead.
** Incineroar getting locked in the basement for figuring out Kazuya before the proper reveal by Kirby ends up derailing Sephiroth's plan to kill the entire Smash cast to spite Cloud as he was imprisoned in the basement and never got poisoned.

** [[spoiler:Turns out Samus wasn't present when Sephiroth poisoned everyone. She went off on a mission at the planet ZDR and left a spare varia suit behind.]]
** Sephiroth and Giratina could count as well, throwing a wrench in the hero's side.
** Dedede, Kirby, Young Link, and Zelda thwarting Sephiroth's Elden Ring plan with their sudden teleportation in his hideout.

** When there is a new character introduced. They are now a resident at the Smash Mansion.

The cast about to use Xerneas to revive all the other dead Smash Bros. members, until Sephiroth appears with Giratina (being a Pokémon trainer himself to some extent), taking Xerneas, Dialga, Palkia, and Arceus.

** [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/a-piercing-speech/ If you look closely at the trash in the last panel]], there's a copy of Mighty No. 9.
** [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/sweet-home-nohr-everyone-is-home/ During Corrin's revival]], the support system in Fates gets a turn as the other fighters finds the ships of [[AgeGapRomance Elise with Benny]] and [[NotBloodSiblings Corrin with Camilla]] very disturbing.

* TemptingFate: In Dinner Despair, (Dr.) Mario advises Cloud to let bygones be bygones and start trusting Sephiroth... right before everyone drops dead from the latter's poison.

* UncertainDoom: [=BotW=] Link in [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/results-may-fairy-everyone-is-home/ Results may Fairy]], as Kass helped the group assigned to revive him place him in the Shrine of Resurrection, but didn't tell them that Link would only awake after one hundred years had passed until ''after'' they locked the shrine. Link's picture is coloured in (indicating he can be revived), but has a question mark. Whether the group will resort to something to bring him back now, or find another [=BotW=] Link, is up in the air. The solution is {{time travel}}ing into the future using the legendary Pokémon Dialga (and Palkia for traveling from Sinnoh to Hyrule).

* UngratefulBastard: Dark Pit admits that he would rather have been dead after Fox gave him the reviving drink.

* ViolationOfCommonSense: Reviving the fighters relies on either knowledge of video game lore or by giving them extra lives from their home series. Shulk? His teammates just spam healing spells, which one might not think it works due to Shulk being dead. Though, FridgeLogic might have kicked in when you realize that according to Xenoblade Chronicles, [[spoiler:Shulk's actually a zombie.]]

** Dinner Despair is agreed on to be the first major whammy from the team, mostly due to a happy event gone completely sour, an intentional poisoning plot, and said planner is Sephiroth. It marks the series' descent into the CerebusRollercoaster.
** In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/status-report-part-2-everyone-is-home/ Status Report – Part 2]], it reveals that Byleth [[spoiler:''had'' used [[TimeRewindMechanic Divine Pulse]], but decided to [[FakingTheDead fake her death]] so that she could figure out any sort of backup plans that Sephiroth might have in store.]]

** In ''Death (Averted) From Above'', [[spoiler: Professor Sada is about to pull her TakingTheBullet for the first Koriadon, when she, the two Koriadon and AI Sada hear a loud explosion...at which point, Sephiroth and Kazuya's group as well as Sora and Arceus suddenly rain down with Sada letting out a "What the---?", thus indicating the Smashers were in the past of ''Pokémon Scarlet'' all along.]]

** No mention of the Great Fairy, her Obsession with Luigi, or that she made him marry her against his will, is ever made after "Of Dogs and Ducks... and Horses"

** Incineroar acquires a Miraidon by assaulting a player who had one.

* YetAnotherChristmasCarol: The Holiday 2023 special event is a parody of ''Literature/AChristmasCarol'', in which Wario plays the part of Ebenezer Scrooge. Other characters include [[VideoGame/HiFiRush Chai]] as his good-natured nephew, Waluigi as his late business partner, Kazuya as his current business partner with [[Franchise/{{Tekken}} Jin Kazama]] as the Tiny Tim of the story, [[VideoGame/WarioLand Captain Syrup]] as Wario's exwife, and Isabelle, King Dedede, and [[VideoGame/{{Undertale}} Sans]] ([[TotemPoleTrench plus Sephiroth]]) as the Ghosts of Christmas. Initially presented as an AlternateUniverse, [[spoiler:[[ProsceniumReveal it's revealed in the end to have been a stage show that the Smash House performed for their community]]]].

* HypocriticalHumor: Simon is canonically a hunter of evil but dates {{Dark Action Girl}}s in this series. He didn't start out as this, constantly trying to kill Bayonetta for being a witch, but the bonus panels reveal that he softened up on her after the two of them had a one-night stand.

** It was up to readers of the comic to who would get the Fire-type starter Pokémon Fuecoco during the [[VideoGame/PokemonScarletAndViolet Paldea]] Vacation arc. Incineroar won the vote, and a second poll was held to determine who would get Sprigatito and Quaxly between Kazuya and Sephiroth; Kazuya ended up getting Sprigatito and Sephiroth got Quaxly.

** "Hylian Invasion" (amusingly also related to the shrine) has the Smashers realizing that they can use Dialga to travel 100 years into the future. Dialga declared that it would be possible if he used Young Link's Ocarina of Time as an aid, but it would be unsafe to head to Hyrule because it was far from Sinnoh and they can't leave the dead bodies unattended for too long. Isabelle stated her wish that they had a way to quickly navigate both time and space. Arceus and Dialga stare at each other for two beat panels, then Arceus asks if they had another Pokéball (to catch Palkia).

* BreatherEpisode: After the "Everyone is Dead" saga, the next episode is about Kazuya, Incineroar and Sephiroth becoming Pokémon trainers in [[VideoGame/PokemonScarletAndViolet Paldea]].

** The trip to Sinnoh to revive the Pokémon characters recalls an old gag from the various "Galar Border Patrol" comics about certain Pokémon not being allowed in Galar because they weren't included in the Galar Pokédex. It happens when Incineroar tries to bring Greninja's body into Sinnoh, but neither of them are allowed in, referring to how ''VideoGame/PokemonBrilliantDiamondAndShiningPearl'' is restricted to the first 493 Pokémon that existed during Generation IV. And as Pangoro obviously isn't part of Generation I-IV, its unofficial Johtonian counterpart Ursaring stands in as the border security.

* ComicallyIneptHealing: Arceus, the creator of all Pokémon, is only able to revive Jigglypuff. He has to explain that he's only good at ''creating'' life, not bringing it back.

** Kazuya carries the same expression nearly everywhere he goes. It's funnier when he's wearing the sailor outfit in the Pokémon reviving sub-arc.

** When the group go to Kalos to find Xerneas so they can revive the rest of the Pokémon fighters, they find Incineroar trying to catch replacement Pokémon with no luck. While ranting, he tosses one of his catches into a Wonder Trade machine... which pops out Xerneas in return.

* DeliberateInjuryGambit: "[[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/the-things-we-do-for-love-everyone-is-home/ The Things We Do for Love]]" has the various guys of Smash coming up with different ways to injure themselves to see Prya/Mythra in the hospital after she damn near drank herself to death against Bayonetta. Captain Falcon and Ganondorf give each other a simultaneous [[MegatonPunch Falcon/Warlock Punch]]. Sonic tries to [[SuperDrowningSkills take a bath]]. Chrom (who is ''married'') tries to sing Jigglypuff to sleep. Wario tries to get Mr. Game & Watch to hit him with a 9 hammer. Incineroar hooks up a jumper cable on his tongue and is about to hook the other end to Pikachu. Shulk gets a warning from the Monado about Richter (who has a ''fiancée'') winding up the [[BatterUp Homerun Bat]]. Dr. Mario is throwing down his visor yelling "[[ScrewThisImOuttaHere I QUIT]]" as we see the AmusingInjuries that happened. Falcon and Ganondorf have fist imprints on their faces while Falcon is carrying Sonic's lifeless body. Chrom's head has a bit of ceiling around his neck. Wario had the 9 hammer in his head. Incineroar got his shock and Richter got the Monado sword slammed in his face.

** Following the revival of the Pokémon fighters, the plan was to use the Legendary Pokémon on hand to easily restore the remaining fighters. However, Sephiroth interferes and throws a big wrench by stealing the Legendary Pokémon, preventing the story from ending so quickly. He also throws a huge wrench in a later plan of theirs to use the Rewind Spring to revive the other Smashers by having Hades guard the Spring and telling him not to let the fighters use it.

** The Pokémon (mainly Pikachu, Charizard and Ivysaur) were able to speak human language in the first strips released. As the series went on, the Pokémon were all relegated to only communicate via PokemonSpeak, minus the obvious exceptions of Mewtwo and Lucario. The only exception to this is Incineroar, who has always been able to speak a human language for reasons unexplained.

* GenreSavvy: Downplayed. Wario doesn't know enough about the mechanics of Pokémon to understand how Electivire works. But he does know an Electric-type when he sees one, and asks the Electivire's trainer to use it to revive Pikachu and Pichu.

* HeKnowsTooMuch: [[spoiler:Incineroar figured out the last two fighters for Fighter Pass Vol. 2 before they were announced. Unfortunately he revealed this to Kirby, who promptly deals with the Pokémon under Sakurai's order. Ironically, this ends up ''saving'' Incineroar's life when Sephiroth murders the rest of the cast.]]

** Spring-Man gets this for his refusal to help K. Rool and Leaf (Female Pokémon Trainer) in reviving Min-Min, even saying she deserves it for "taking" his spot. Not even Waluigi was this petty and vengeful. To see K. Rool trick Spring Man with a fake Smash Invitation to get him to spill his guts. The pay-off is quite fitting, as it is the very same trick Sephiroth used no less.

** In an allusion to what fans might be thinking now that they have the Creation trio (sans Giratina) and Xerneas, the fighters can use them to revive everyone. Unfortunately, Sephiroth anticipated this and uses Giratina to steal the fighters' Pokémon and thwart their plan.

** When [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/psalm-493-everyone-is-home/ the Smashers go to a Pokémon Center]] to revive the rest of the Pokémon, Sora is seen being given a Master Ball for being the 1,000th visitor, which comes in handy when they go to Arceus to revive the rest of the Pokémon fighters and the God Pokémon is uncooperative.

* MilestoneCelebration: InUniverse example. In [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/psalm-493-everyone-is-home/ Psalm 493]], Sora is the 1,000th visitor in the Pokémon center, and is awarded a Master Ball for such achievement.

** Kazuya breaks his stoic demeanor in "[[ChristmasEpisode Kalos Christmas]]" out of concern for Incineroar getting all winded trying to catch 'mons in Kalos. He gets particularly emotional at the Christmas party once the other Pokémon characters are brought back to life by Xerneas, hugging Incineroar while getting a nice patting on the back in return.

* PaperThinDisguise: Whenever the groups travel to different areas to revive/replace the fighters in the "Everyone is dead" arc, they will usually change their attire to blend in with the region. In Sinnoh, the animal fighters dress up as Pokémon, and Cynthia thinks that Kazooie is a real Ho-oh.
** Later in the Paldea arc, none of the residents of Paldea are aware that Incineroar is actually a Pokémon, and believe him to be just another [buff] human.

The cast about to use Xerneas to revive all the other dead Smash Bros. members, until Sephiroth appears with Giratina (being a Pokémon trainer himself to some extent), taking Xerneas, Dialga, Palkia, and Arceus.

* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Incineroar is capable of speaking human language, whereas the other Pokémon barring Mewtwo and Lucario are limited to PokemonSpeak, [[MindScrew is able to catch and train other Pokémon]], and is arguably [[AnthropomorphicShift the Pokémon that has the most human-like behaviour of the whole cast]]. Despite this, none of the other characters question ''why'' is Incineroar capable of all of this but not the other Pokémon.

* UncertainDoom: [=BotW=] Link in [[https://www.woodenplankstudios.com/comic/results-may-fairy-everyone-is-home/ Results may Fairy]], as Kass helped the group assigned to revive him place him in the Shrine of Resurrection, but didn't tell them that Link would only awake after one hundred years had passed until ''after'' they locked the shrine. Link's picture is coloured in (indicating he can be revived), but has a question mark. Whether the group will resort to something to bring him back now, or find another [=BotW=] Link, is up in the air. The solution is {{time travel}}ing into the future using the legendary Pokémon Dialga (and Palkia for traveling from Sinnoh to Hyrule).

** In ''Death (Averted) From Above'', [[spoiler: Professor Sada is about to pull her TakingTheBullet for the first Koriadon, when she, the two Koriadon and AI Sada hear a loud explosion...at which point, Sephiroth and Kazuya's group as well as Sora and Arceus suddenly rain down with Sada letting out a "What the---?", thus indicating the Smashers were in the past of ''Pokémon Scarlet'' all along.]]

* FlippingTheBird: When [[spoiler:Meta Knight (actually Kirby)]], defects to Sephiroth's side, he gives the Smashers a double deuce.

** The third Arc features Link and Pikachu being stranded in Hyrule, both having [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTearsOfTheKingdom acquired Rauru's arms]], while the other Zelda Fighters sans Sheik have also been separated from each other after being split up by Calamity Ganon. * FalselyReformedVillain: Sephiroth seems to have dropped his villainous tendencies after a few doses of LaserGuidedKarma, if still remaining a prankster with only Cloud being paranoid that this is a ruse. Turns out he hasn't been reformed as the moment he manages to win the roster's trust, he takes advantage of it to kill them off.
