When Rosa Masahiro investigates a couple of mysterious rumors in her desert hometown of New Temple, she ends up captured by actual aliens. In her escape she accidentally absorbs a mysterious object called a Neural Nexus, which awakens powerful psychic abilities in the girl. Inspired by her favorite superhero shows she dons the name Sola, Star Defender to protect her family and friends and takes on the mysterious alien organization Anathema, who are using the town as testing grounds for their goal to take control of the whole galaxy.

!!This work contains examples of:
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Ophelia's friends manage to break her out of Anathema’s control without even realizing she had been brainwashed by aliens just by being kind and supportive towards her.
* ActionGirl: There’s of course the main protagonist Rosa/Sola, but most of the other girls of the self-proclaimed Star Defenders also each have gotten at least one moment to shine in that regard.
* AdultsAreUseless: You can almost count on one hand the amount of kind and helpful adults, let alone parents, in New Temple. It's saying a lot if the person that's considered the best parent doesn't have any children of her own.
* BadassBystander: Many of Rosa’s friends get to shine in that regard at least once each.
* TheBadGuyWins: The first “Divergent Timeline” chapter features Rosa being overwhelmed by Slythe and being turned into the first Zeta drone instead.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Pretty much all of the victims of Anathema‘s mind control schemes apply.
* ForcedTransformation: It doesn’t really count as consent if those turned into Agents by Anathema are being mind-controlled throughout the procedure.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Agents usually don't remember their time under Anathema's control after being freed by Sola. Sector Zero also possesses technology to cause this and uses it to try to keep information about the aliens from leaking out of town.
* MindControl: A major theme of the story. Each of Anathema’s officers has a unique way to brainwash and control others, from glowing eyes over pheromones to gaslighting.
* MonsterOfTheWeek: The story follows this type of format. Almost every chapter features one of the citizens being turned into one of Anathema’s Agents, who attack Sola and her friends.
* MultipleEndings: “Divergent Timeline” chapters are alternative endings to chapters that explore what could have happened instead.
* NotQuiteBackToNormal: Even after being freed from Anathema’s control humans keep the nanotechnology used to turn them into Agents and are technically able to turn back into their Agent-forms at will without being controlled, though the chances of this happening are stated to be very slim. Due to her hatred for humans, Rehonna goes one step further when turning humans into Agents and subjects them to genetic modifications on her whims, which requires them to undergo treatment by the Galactic Federation to properly return to normal.
** A special case is Alice, who after her time as Corrector’s metal student minion keeps the silver eye color. Later it’s revealed that due to breaking the control of her own she never turned back physically.
* SecretKeeper: Rosa’s family and growing circle of friends all learn her secret over the course of the story.
* SecretSecretKeeper: Eclair manages to figure Sola’s real identity out in Chapter 7 using Sector Zero technology. In Chapter 13 she reveals she already knows Rosa, though it seems she didn't inform her about Casey and Madelyn.
* TurningBackHuman: When Sola breaks Anathema’s mind control, Agents and their minions turn back to how they were previously. If you are one of the unlucky few to have been turned by Rehonna, then genetic therapy is necessary on top. This doesn't apply though if someone manages to break the mind control on their own.
