* RedshirtArmy: Many of the Irkens serving aboard the Massive wear red uniforms. When the Resisty board the Massive in episode 1, the rebels easily massacre most of the ship's crew without a single casualty. This is downplayed by the Tallest's PraetorianGuard, who at least put up a fight and even succeed in [[TakingYouWithMe killing three rebels in their final moments]].

* GhostCity: The city where Zim and the Membranes live is strangely empty when the Tallest make their way there in part 1 of episode 1 after being teleported to Earth. The streets are devoid of any cars or people. A poster on an advertising column reveals that this is because a large number of people suddenly went missing and the city responded by enacting a curfew.

** The inhabitants of the alien planet the Tallest are planning to blow up at the start of the episode are all shown running around screaming and crying TearsOfFear when they see the Massive charging up its superlaser to fire on them.
** The Tallest and their PraetorianGuard all collectively have an "oh snap!" moment when they try to evacuate the Massive during the Resisty's attack and open the door to a presumed safe room only to find a team of armed assassins waiting for them inside.

** In episode 1, the Tallest share this reaction when the Resisty fire their WaveMotionGun at the Massive. The way they hug each other and scream in wide-eyed terror, with Purple even crying TearsOfFear, says it all.
** Also Purple in TheStinger for episode 1 part 1 when he sees water falling from the sky.
* OhCrapSmile: Purple flashes one in the first episode as he tries to negotiate with the Resisty after he and Red find themselves completely at their mercy.
-->'''Purple:''' O-o-o-okay, uh, you win now. Y-you can have all our snacks. [[MotiveMisidentification That's what you want from us, yeah?]] You-you can have them. ''[nervously laughs]''

* BoomHeadshot:
** While boarding the Massive in the first episode, Lard Nar uses his laser gun to ''blast an Irken through the head''. At least two more Irkens are also gunned down this way as the Resisty make their way through the ship.
** In episode 1, the leader of the Tallest's PraetorianGuard dies from getting shot in the center of his forehead by Resisty assassins before he even has time to react.

* BigDamnHeroes: In episode 1, right as the Tallest are about to activate the Massive's weapons to blow up a planet full of terrified aliens, they are interrupted by the arrival of the Resisty's starship, which fires on the Massive and disables its systems.

* EurekaMoment: Part 1 of episode 1 ends with Red wondering where on Earth he's supposed to find the necessary equipment to fix his PAK as he wanders through a city. His eyes are then drawn to an advertising column with a flier showing a drawing of Zim (likely put up there by Dib). The sound of a lightbulb turning on is heard in the background as Red then says "Zim" with a smile on his face.

* ItsQuietTooQuiet: In episode 1, right before the Tallest's entourage opens the door to a presumed safe room, Purple comments on how the hallway they're in has suddenly gone silent. Seconds after he says this, the group gets ambushed by assassins waiting on the other side of the door.
-->'''Purple:''' ''[nervously]'' Hey, uh, it's suddenly gone quiet, Red.

* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: During their argument in episode 1, Red gives a minor one to Purple where he accuses him of being "selfish, self-absorbed, and always bailing on everything".

* ShrugTake: After Minimoose does a SwapTeleportation with the Tallest in front of the Resisty, a bewildered Lard Nard tries to make sense of what he just witnessed. The scene then cuts to the various members of the Resisty all shrugging their shoulders.

* SkewedPriorities: In episode 1, when the Massive's alarms start blaring and the ship's comms officer warns the Tallest that they need to evacuate the bridge ASAP, Red's first act is [[SeriousBusiness dramatically shouting]] at Purple to secure the donuts. Also doubles as a CallBack to "Backseat Drivers From Beyond The Stars".

Moved to episode recap

* AshFace: Happens to Purple in the first episode when his initial attempt to repair Red's PAK results in a tiny explosion that covers his face in soot.

* DramaticGunCock: When the assassins point their pistols at the Tallest and their guards in the first episode, the sound of multiple gun cocks are heard even though the assassins are all holding laser weapons.

* EyeScream: One of the murdered Irkens that the Tallest pass by while evacuating the Massive in the first episode has his right eye blown out.
* EyeTake: In episode 1, Red is listening to Purple read through a PAK instruction manual in hopes of finding a way to repair Red's broken PAK. The solution proposed by the manual is basically turning the PAK off and on again. When Purple offhandedly remarks how this has the potential side effect of shutting the PAK down permanently (i.e. ''killing'' him), Red immediately goes [[OhCrap googly-eyed in horror]] before angrily snatching the book away from Purple.

* GoryDiscretionShot: The scene from episode 1 where Lard Nar [[BoomHeadshot shoots an Irken through the head]] is edited so that only the silhouettes are shown with AlienBlood getting splattered on the floor after the Irken is killed.
* HanlonsRazor: Discussed in the first episode. When Purple makes no headway in fixing Red's PAK despite having worked on it for four hours, a frustrated Red accuses him of deliberately trying to stall him to death. Purple takes offense to his accusation and [[IfIWantedYouDead points out that he could've just not bothered trying to fix his PAK if that was the case.]] Red responds by snapping that the only other explanation he can think of for why Purple hasn't repaired his PAK yet is that he's just incredibly stupid.

* InTheBack: In episode 1, the last of the Tallest's bodyguards is killed by Lard Nar who shoots him in the back after he lets his guard down.

* NoYou: Purple does this to Red during their argument in episode 1.
-->'''Red:''' I'm so sick of this!\\
'''Purple:''' Well, I'm sick of ''you''!

* WallRun: During the corridor fight between the Tallest's guards and the Resisty's assassins in episode 1, one of the guards gets the [[{{Pun}} drop]] on his opponent by running along a wall before leaping towards an assassin and stabbing them through the chest with his spear.

* WhatCouldPossiblyGoWrong: In episode 1, Purple offers to repair Red's damaged PAK. When Red points out that Purple almost failed his Hands-On Technician course at the Irken Academy, Purple nonchalantly responds "Yeah, but how hard can it be?"

The story follows Red and Purple, the [[EvilOverlord Almighty Tallest]] of the Irken Empire, who find themselves on the run from [[LaResistance the Resisty]] after a shocking attack on the Massive leaves them both stranded on planet Earth. With no hope of rescue and few options left, the Tallest must recruit the help of Zim and the Membrane family to save themselves and the Irken Armada from its new ruler. But with the Resisty still strong and TheEmpire collapsing, will they get back to power in time to fix things? Or will they be destroyed by the very corrupted empire they created?

** The Resisty in canon were laughably pathetic RevolutionariesWhoDontDoAnything that mostly limited themselves to petty acts of rebellion like [[PokeThePoodle stealing snacks]] from the Tallest. Here, they are depicted as more of an actual threat. In the first episode alone, they come closer to achieving their goals than they ever did in the original show; they cripple the Massive and come within inches of assassinating the Almighty Tallest.

* {{Deconstruction}}: Purple's characterization as TheDitz in contrast to the more mature and capable Red gets deconstructed in episode 1 where it's ''because'' of those traits that Red looks down on him as TheLoad and has very little faith in him doing anything right. The whole argument that causes them to split up is started by Red assuming that Purple's inability to repair his PAK is due to incompetence and lashing out at him by calling him dumb. It's also shown that while Purple might not be as smart as Red, he is far from stupid and is genuinely hurt when Red insults his intelligence and belittles his attempts to help him.
