* So far, a few things appear to be confirmed such as the possibility that Culex might still be there since the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfYfuAOKTxA&t=820s 14/09/23 Nintendo Direct]] trailer for Super Mario RPG does briefly show Mario using the Shiny Stone to open the sealed door in Monstro Town. In addition, post-game rematches are confirmed for some bosses (with footage shown for Booster, Punchinello and Johnny being shown) though their colours are unchanged, and Booster hasn't been replaced by Wario. Everything else is still up in the air.

In the trailer, several cutscenes from the original game are shown, but they mysteriously lack textboxes. This likely means the game will feature full voicea cting similar to the ''VideoGame/LiveALive'' remake. It helps that ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBrosWonder'' seems to feature full voice acting for the Talking Flowers.

Culex himself will be made far more difficult than the SNES version to compensate for the redesigned level system.

** In addition each character will gain a new set of weapons and equipment that serves as an InfinityPlusOneSword for each party member.

** If not that, then a possible "Hard Mode" that increases enemy stats to make them stronger while giving bosses new attacks.

[[WMG: Culex won't be the only {{Superboss}} in the remake]]
Though the game has several optional bosses already with Culex being the {{Superboss}} to top them all, it's always interesting to consider how Final Fantasy games are known for adding new superbosses to their remakes and that VideoGame/LiveALive got a new TrueFinalBoss to cap off the Switch remake. Perhaps it's possible that several new superbosses will be added to give the player some new content as an incentive. Here are a few possible guesses as to what kind of superbosses could be added to the remake:
* [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Sephiroth]] (due to his appearance in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' connecting him to the Mario Bros.)
* [[VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiBowsersInsideStory Dark Star]] (due to ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiBowsersInsideStory'' mentioning him being sealed away by the Star Sprites, which could be related to the higher authority that Geno follows)
* [[VideoGame/MarioParty3 Millennium Star]] (An esoteric choice due to him appearing in only one Mario Party game.)

Added DiffLines:

* [[VideoGame/DonkeyKong Donkey Kong]] (The oldest rival of Mario's and again, an esoteric and unexpected choice).
* Evil versions of each party member such as [[VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine Shadow Mario]], [[VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor Shadow Queen ]], [[VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiBowsersInsideStory Dark Bowser]] and evil versions of Geno (referencing [[https://www.mariowiki.com/Geno#/media/File:GenoConcept1.png this concept art]]) and Mallow (resembling [[https://www.mariowiki.com/Mokura Mokura]]). (Unlikely but if they did, could guard new [[InfinityPlusOneSword weapons and equipment for each character]].
** A prototype version of Smithy that resembles his final form or might be just a PaletteSwap who uses the strongest skills in the game.

[[WMG:In the 2023 remake, there will be a new Final Boss or an extra boss added along with some gameplay changes]]
Similar to ''VideoGame/LiveALive'' with [[spoiler:Sin of Odio]], Mario RPG might receive a new boss in the remastered version since like ''Live A Live'', Mario RPG was made by Square along with having music by Yoko Shimomura which is receiving a remaster.
The gameplay changes will mostly be stat changes for balancing some characters along with better descriptions of what each attack does such as stating the element of each attack along with potential secondary effects.

[[WMG:In the 2023 Remake, Culex will be the only boss with no changes or an HD-2D style updated sprite.]]
To keep with the narrative and joke that 2D beings like him can't survive in a quasi-3D world like Mario's, Culex still retains his original 2D sprite to clash with the updated graphics further, or it gets an updated version in the style of the ''VideoGame/LiveALive'' HD-2D remake with higher detail and move animations.

[[WMG: The remake will incorporate newer gameplay elements of Mario RPG games.]]
For example; First Strikes, which have been a staple in ''every'' RPG of the franchise since; and a music player, an element that's more recent but no less consistent.

* Culex might appear in the remake or he'll be replaced with a different boss (such as Antasma) who could fulfil a similar gimmick. If Culex returns, his characterization will be based on the JP version rather than the US version.
* Luigi's role will be expanded from a cameo to full on party member. Defeating Smithy with Luigi in the party instead of Mario nets you an alternate ending.
* Wario and Waluigi will get cameos, and Wario will not be replacing Booster despite their similar designs.
* There will be a boss rematch mode similar to VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiBowsersInsideStory where you can refight stronger versions of story mode bosses with[[PaletteSwap new colour schemes]] and a secret boss at the end of the unlockable BossRush (by defeating all other bosses first)
** There may also be an option to refight all optional bosses complete with its own BossRush and potential secret boss.

* All characters now have several alternate costumes referencing other characters or palettes from other Nintendo games. These costumes are unlockable by engaging in optional side content.
* A NewGamePlus feature will be available after beating the game once or by defeating [[{{Superboss}} Culex]].

* The one kink in this theory is Geno's claim to serve a "higher authority". The honorable Star Spirits of Paper Mario appear to be the highest authority of Star Haven, making it more likely that Geno (the Star) is subservient to the seven than one of the seven.

[[WMG: Geno is Skolar of the Star Spirits from [[VideoGame/PaperMario Paper Mario]].]]
He's the third playable character to come along on the team in Mario RPG while being the third star spirit you save in Paper Mario. Meeting them both involves going through a forest maze, and they both have the most offensive attack in their respective game (Geno Whirl doing [[OneHitKill 9,999]] if timed well and Star Storm doing 7). Since he's a star spirit, all of Geno's attacks are star-themed, but Skolar is the only star spirit that's ever been known to use an offensive attack so far (the closest being Kalmar who can turn enemies into stars, but doing so doesn't reward you with star points). Star Storm itself could be a variation of Geno Blast.
