* It's been decades since the TV show's heyday. Possibly the city's mayor ''back then'' was similar to the one in the old series?

** While to each their own, I would say the last sentence is a bit too presumptuous. Given those things are the life blood of Scooby and his sibling entities from the get-go, I doubt many think a complicated multiverse for any "error" is the "only way" to go about watching them these days.

* Counterpropsal: There are multiple continuities in the Scooby-Doo franchise. With how many years it's been going combined with multiple different incarnations set in different time periods: 1960s/1970s can be one continuity due to the amount of fictional characters that show up; the 1980s & some 1990s stuff that's more mythology-based rather than the normal formula is another; ''A Pup Named Scooby-Doo''; the 1997–2001 animated films, which could possibly be set after the 1960s & 1970s stuff; ''WesternAnimation/WhatsNewScoobyDoo'' and the 2000s animated films; the first two live-action films; the third and fourth, which can't even be considered prequels to the first two due to different character developments made; ''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooMysteryIncorporated'', since it can't be a stealth prequel by any means to the original series & later stuff doesn't reference it at all; the 2010s films, and ''WesternAnimation/BeCoolScoobyDoo''. Basically, all of these represent different continuities in the franchise, whether on purpose or not. Considering the amounts of AnachronismStew, TechnologyMarchesOn, NegativeContinuity, etc., this is the only way to really go about watching future installments of the franchise.

[[WMG:The Mayor from the real-life Dynomutt cartoon doesn't exist in the fictional cartoon shown in the movie.]]
Neither Shaggy nor Scooby pointed out the similarities between him and the Mayor they met during the movie.

** Not really, actually a MythologyGag, it may seem complicated but other Hanna Barbera characters have been fiction in one another's show and then actually cross over with them. Blame the probable faulty time stream
*** Scooby turned on a Yogi Bear cartoon in a Pup Named Scooby Doo, and then the kids actually meet Ranger Smith
*** Betty mentioned watching the Yogi Cave Bear show, then Yogi actually shows up real in a later episode
*** Elroy watched the Flitstones on his friend's tv watch and then they actually met in a movie
*** Dr Jeremiah Surd mentions he was watching Scooby Doo (which could be more complicated when in 13 Ghosts it appears Scooby's "real-life" is broadcasted on tv.)

* Probably not a guess so much as fact, considering that in this movie every Hanna-Barbera character ''other than the Scooby gang'' is fictional within this universe.
