* SakiBiyori has a scene where Nelly says something along of the lines of "I think I don't have any new growing to do!", Satoha asks "Why do you think that?", and Nelly replies "My teeth! They're all grown!", so when her permanent teeth grew at 12, she deliberately barely ate to keep herself 140 cm tall, and only started eating more when she turned 16, hence her rapid growth between her first appearance and the newest pages.

Nelly and Fiffi's parents died of a terrible illness when Nelly was 13 and Fiffi was 3, and the girls had to scrounge around their home village of Mestia ever since.

Team Italia - a small Liceo Psico-Pedagogico in a small town, that became more of a school where people enroll when they want an easy diploma and want to relax. They don't really have a theme to it. From first to last fought: Reza a girly girl wearing too much makeup that wants to be famous. Teresa a nextdoorish countryside girl. Elesa really small and excitable but can pull off secretly good hands at the end of play. Vanna a total mahjong nerd. Mina who actually is a jock but is a very fast player. Team Espana - Also a smallish town school. From first to last fought: Elena a really warm and premurous girl who acts as the team mom to the group. Merisa the team's tactician who is just slightly edgy. Samara the big boob girl who acts sexy. Doniella a swimmer girl with dyed firetruck-red hair who is nicknamed "the mermaid". And Ezika who is actually Basque and is a bit shy.

Team Portugal - They're a small town school and are rivals to Team Espana. From first to last fought: Tamra a lovely tango dancer. Michaela a scooter rider with an undercut. Gayana a sweet pigtail girl who wants Michaela to lighten up. Ennella a tall muscular soccer player girl. And Deena who is kinda next-doorish, shortish, kinda freckly and with long braided hair.

Team France - They're a fashion school. From first to last fought: Ellene who is spunky and sexy and a bit slutty and is constantly posting pics of her cleavage on instagram. Co-Co who is a sweet girl who is slightly childish. Bervalde who is a snobby Touka-clone. Darfour who always points out that she's on a diet. Vivienne who can tell everything about a person by their hairstyle and clothing.

Team Ireland - All of them ginger with green eyes and freckles. From first to last fought: Saoirse is sweet and next-doorish and has a sweet tooth for chocolate. DeAnna is an excitable cheerleader. Minerva is hotheaded and kinda tomboyish. Clover is next-doorish but feminine and wears clover hairpins. Cerbiatta is a slightly hotheaded tactician who likes fixing computers.

Team Great Britain - They're kind of siblingy rivals to Team Ireland. From first to last fought: Amelie is yet another next-doorish untalkative Vanguard. Helen is shy and sweet and a bit childish. Theresa has blonde ringlets and is actually a princess that came to the school to partake in the best mahjong team in the UK. Whoona is REALLY into time travel and wears fashion inspired by 1980's Doctor Who. Sasha is a psychic rollerskater.

Team Nederland - Another team of redheads but not freckly. Most likely from either of the Holland provinces. Won't surprise me if Benelux had unified into a country named Holland. From first to last fought: Tjulip: strawberry blond next-doorish cutie with a tulip hairpin. Jennette: bobbed light orange hair, next-doorish, a flower breeder. Gogh: Wears a painter hat and makes pointilism paintings, and has a pointilism\cubism themed ability. Renna: A nextdoorish tomboy. Elsie: A classy but excitable girl.

Team Detuschland - Kind of punk band themed. From first to last fought:

Marisse: Smallish, slightly edgy and nerdy, and the pianist of the team.
KiKi: Flat chested and a bit sad about it. The guitarist of the team.
Bluht: One of the Blumenthal twins
Leuchtet: The other Blumenthal twin. She and Bluht are both singers and have similiar personalities with both being excitable spunky tomboys. Leuchtet is just slightly more talkative than Bluht.

Team Polska - From first to last fought:
Kiria: Aspiring ballerina.
Elska: Shy, nerdy tactician.
Leila: Next-doorish.
Rika: Tomboyish Bifauxnen.
Ellora: Glompy excitable lesboo with big boobs.

Team Czechia\Czechoslovakia - From first to last fought:
Azmara: Shy and next-doorish.
Elyeva: The sweet girl, who can see into other people's minds.
Minou: A shy girl who wants her parents to be proud of her.
Boska: Boisterous and slightly hotheaded.
Leanna: A small girl who is a bit childish.

Team Hungary\Hungary+Slovakia - From first to last fought:
Enpa: A spunky, talkative tactician girl. It can be a surprise fighting her.
Ishvi: Fast and slightly tomboyish. Always seems to know what will be the fastest way to win.
Rena: The serious, kinda emo one.
Lasza: The shy, crybaby-ish one. Also quite small.
Nana: Next-doorish and corageous, always finding an odd solution to the problem.

Team Romania - vampire-themed. From first to last fought:
Vladika: Shy tactician girl
Elvira: The brooding one.
Mona: The classy one.
Amnesty: Tall and serious one who can see other people's flow but can't control it. (a la Jun)
Ennui: Serious and slightly evil one who can drain the flow and willpower of her opponents.

Ellina: Next-doorish spunky girl from the countryside.
Liza: A serious irredentist tall girl who wears an eyepatch hiding an immense psionic power which causes everyone to bow to Serbia.
Alyana: A militaristic girl.
Alanis: A girl who always feels haunted.
Enma: A girl who can alter the destiny of her opponents (and also reads minds).

Elsa: A shy girl with long white hair.
Nera: A peppy next-doorish girl.
Grete: A girl who cares about her appearance more than her personality.
Lele: A really small girl yet is very mature.
Enekra: She is stoic and a bit of a loner.

Team Eesti\Suomi
Teppi: A stoic, really tall girl.
Amnesty: A cute, shy, small bifauxnen\bifauxta who brings a plush bunny with her.
Sveta: A stoic, shy girl that smokes.
Erema: Stoic and drinks milk a lot.
Lula: Stoic but becomes peppy when she has a good Mahjong hand.

Team Belarus\Ukraine\Russia
Svetlana: A shy, sweet girl.
Aramia: A strong, muscular, tall girl. Has a violent playstyle.
Nepska: A stoic, yet sweet girl.
Mamanya: "IN SOVIET RUSSIA... MAMANYA X's YOU!"
Ermesa: Seems like a sweet girl, then she calls on the powers of Soviet Propaganda. And you find out her bloodlust.

Saki can deliberately break even using her +/-0 play style, and has to be told to play as if she has a large handicap in order to win. Even with this, she will revert to +/-0 play style during times of great stress (such as during the National Quarterfinals), only this time, she'll make sure that her opponents end up with scores that favor her more. These seem to imply that Saki has conditioned herself to revert to playing +/-0 whenever things get too troublesome in order to ensure that she doesn't win or lose. Note that the cause of her developing this particular style is because her family would get angry at her ''if she won too much,'' which would imply that back then, [[CurbStompBattle Saki would completely dominate her family members in mahjong multiple times until they got frustrated at her]]. Hisa's problem is how to remove Saki's +/-0 mindset in order to make her play at her absolute best during the finals.

Their true power is cancelation of others abilties. Her father's is automatic and area wide, but Nodoka's has two settings. A shield and 'sword.' In order for the supernatural powers of the others to blossom, her original teacher insisted on her using her right hand, the shield. It will not be until the late individuals when Nodoka accepts the supernatural and that she herself has a powerful two-sided abiltiy. So far the shield has protected her, but it also ''limits'' her. Some reasons for this guess We've seen two people withe a two-sided style, one in each side (sets both up) and most people only get a glimpse of Nodoka's battle aura before dismissing it. Also considering her aim, is win the individuals how else will she beat Saki?
