He doesn't do this when buying things because he doesn't want Recette to have trouble with her shop, but gleefully haggles when buying them back. This would also explain why he is generally grumpy whenever Recette strikes an easily agreeable deal, because that wasn't fun. The above would be the reason why he is still buying it.
