Eighties nostalgia had a major revival in the 2010's and is still going strong, and it even came 40 years after the decade, just as ''Pleasantville'' came out fourty years after the 50's and in a wave of Cold War era nostalgia. The film could use the likes of Series/{{Cheers}} or ''Series/FamilyTies'' for it.

Not quite as idealized, but 90s nostalgia in many ways is starting to replace 50s nostalgia, and represents a more idealized and fundamentally optimistic outlook on the world than today. It could use something like an ersatz Series/{{Friends}} or Series/TwoGuysAndAGirl as well, and deliberately reference the rise of streaming with the idea of a streaming service recently picking up the older show as the inciting incident rather than a TV Marathon.

[[WMG: Alternatively, will be remade in the mid-late 2020s, and will involve an idealized version of UsefulNotes/TheEighties]]

The residents do seem to have some idea of a personal history, and that things will continue as they always have, which is disrupted when the kids show up. They may experience the passage of time as the running of each episode, either multiple episodes all in one night as a marathon, or one or two episodes per night in syndication, the same stories over and over again. But after all these changes, will the reruns ever be the same again?

This would explain the moratorium on "leaving town" from [[http://jhuger.com/kissing-hanks-ass Hank's list that he dictated]]. Oh, and the cable guy who gave David and Jennifer the magical remote control? He's Hank!! Sex?! That never used to be a thing in Pleasantville. So all this bit about wieners, buns, and condiments would be the perfect stand-in for sexual purity. Also, one solid proof of Hank's existence in Pleasantville? He always sends a stork to deliver a baby to prospective parents!

[[WMG: Pleasantville existed in a cyclical time loop of reruns.]]
