Olive's adoption status

* when Olive's mother walks in on her playing the guitar, she says Olive's father was as straight as they come, while her current husband says he used to be gay. I think Olive and her older brother biologically belong to the mom, who got remarried and then adopted her younger brother.

to:

** If Olive is in fact adopted, this is the most likely explanation. It is implied that Olive was at a minimum her mother's biological child. When her younger brother says that he's never going to go through puberty, Olive's mother says that the family is made up of late bloomers, then names both herself and Olive as examples. The brother then says that ''he'' is adopted, but no mention is made of Olive's paternity.

'Father' and 'dad' are two very different things.

** she calls him Dad though.
*** Maybe he entered Olive's life when she was very young and she has never been in contact with her bio-dad, or sporadic enough contact to not form that kind of relationship with him. ''Ergo'', Mr. Penderghast is her dad.

* Olive says that he's in college, though. Unless that's the euphemism the family uses?

Friends With Benefits now does have a page, so linked to that

Yeah, we don't have a page for the movie FriendsWithBenefits yet but in the film Mila Kunis's character takes a sign from a waiting limo driver and writes on the back of it. The side not written on has O. Penderghast printed on it.

...I cannot believe it took me over a month to notice that I'd gotten the name wrong.

Why they think this is anyone's guess -- maybe it has something to do with the fact that she looks like Emma Stone and yet has never had a boyfriend. Either way, it explains why they simultaneously believe Olive when she says George is gay, but still think he's her boyfriend; they assume George and Olive are ''both'' acting as TheBeard.

* Taking this one further, Olive must have another, older brother. After all, she tell Rhiannon that she had a date with George, a classmate of her brother's at college. It is established in the film that Rhiannon and Olive had been friends for years, so surely Rhiannon would have known if Olive's only brother were too young for the story about George to be at all credible. So Olive must also have an older brother. It is even more unlikely that the Penderghasts were able to have two children but not a third. So it is probable that Olive and both of her brothers were adopted.
