* Confirmed (to an extent) as of episode 18. Depending on how trustworthy Xanu is, the Foreclaimers constantly experimented on souls to create "perfection", and upon creating him (Xanu), they stuffed him in a cell and experimented on him further despite being an ''artificial god''. He decided to commit genocide on them out of revenge. So far, Gothi's memories and discoveries line up with this, though time will tell if any information is still hidden (deliberately or not).

At least, the ones that didn't have a HeelRealization and [[GoneNative went native]].

[[WMG: The foreclaimers originally had empathy and it was slowly coming back]]

Perhaps it was a cultural thing, perhaps their empathy was suppressed by magic, but at some point they lost that part of themselves. Gothi was the first foreclaimer to regain he empathy and survive, if their society had survived they would have all regained it eventually. However, This would have destroyed their society as they realized the horrors they had commited.

* In the end, we never find out, but we discover that they ''can'' develop empathy if they train themselves to feel it. They also had a ''faint'' conscience, as the total collapse of their empire managed to cause some to have a collective MyGodWhatHaveIDone.

Magical Amish and {{Mad Scientist}}s. The former are generally harmless and don't deserve genocide, while the latter are just as sick as the people who tortured Xanu. This causes conflicts.

[[WMG:The foreclaimers had to find another power source for their crystals]]

Notice how in episode 27 the forclaimer who has a power crystal has a silver glow, not a golden one? At some point after they fled though the portal they lost access to the technology and had to adapt.

* Jossed - Power crystals are hard to come by after becoming LostTechnology, but the Foreclaimers get by. When a Foreclaimer outlives their usefulness, they pass their crystals to their favored children as sacred heirlooms. As for how they ''power'' those soul-devouring crystals, well, [[WouldHarmAChild that's what the un-favored children are for]]. Which is pretty much what they did to 'defective' children before the Fall.

[[WMG: Goddrick III is actually Goddrick I, having found a way to reincarnate and possess his descendants.]]
It would be ''so'' in-character for Goddrick to have found a way to store his soul in a crystal that became data instead of fuel, and then jammed it into his own grandson and re-wrote their personality into his.
As for why he would waste precious resources ''trying'' to achieve immortality, well, let's just say that Goddrick II's obsession with lemons doesn't portray a competent, stoic heir.
