From the scenes on Remulak we can see that, while their technology is more advanced than ours, their society is about 2000 years behind ours (an emperor, gladiatorial games...) and when the emperor sees that Beldar has capped his teeth, he says that it's a major offense. This lets us infer that, when faced with her daughter's temporary tattoo, Beldar wasn't just being a strict dad: he reacts like that because what he saw went against his belief that any body modification is a crime. In turn, this makes us wonder what he thought when he had his teeth (all three rows of them) capped...
