We're obviously, as viewers, are supposed to take it as a joke, but the man's tone might suggest he's actually seen this thing BEFORE. If we're dealing with a world where the above mentioned things can happen, not to mention food can come to life and slide away from the plate, then perhaps Greendale is part of a Crapsack World where people can throw away an unwanted child, Lane' age, older or younger, and let the garbage truck haul them to the landfill.
