* AllForNothing: Jack Boyd's theme song, is titled "No Good", which the first Variant of it plays in the Act 1's main menu, in the Act 2 it plays the original sounding one, and in the Act 3 plays the second Variant of it. While in game you can play the original sounding one only after Act 3 starts. [[spoiler:The theme of the song, is that in the lyrics, Jack Boyd's wife left him, and he wanted her back during those the first 2 Acts, the Half of million that he assigned himself a goal to earn for her, was a pointless affair, as she rejects him, then in the Act 3, Jack Boyd is left with nothing else to do, but try to at least keep his position of a chief of police, which Martin said that he would, if Jack didn't fell into AngstComa during Act 2, which got Martin later killed during his absence. After both Eugene and Rogers offer Boyd to help either one of them, in return to keep his position, they betray him, and he gets fired either way, which leaves Jack with "Nothing but cold" in his bones, when he tries to seek comfort in the club he has been for 30 years, gets denied entry to, which leaves to count 100 numbers in his head for him to then go home.]]

* GuideDangIt: At the start of the first game, Jack is requested by the mayor to fire all black employees. Naturally, you would assume that this mean only all black cops, since it's much easier to legally fire cops than it is detectives. Turns out that you have to fire detectives as well, and there's absolutely no way to honor the mayor's request without legal trouble (barring RNG making both of your preset black detectives failing to turn up to work).

* ImprobablyQuickComaRecovery: On the [[spoiler:30th]] day, [[spoiler:Jack]] will be bludgeoned on the head with a metal pipe, by an unknown hooded figure. This puts him in a coma for 25 days, what lampshades the trope is [[spoiler:Jack's]] deputy Martin Stett, who will comment on how doctors gave the opinion that he could have stayed in a coma for much longer period than he would have.
** AdventuresInComaland: An retro wild-west mini-game will start, where the player is tasked with shooting bad guys on the screen, failing to shoot them on time, makes them pull out their revolvers and shoot the player, skipping the mini-game completely to the day Jack awakens. Winning the mini-game, shows the player, that he earned himself a half of million dollars, which is the goal Jack is aiming towards.

* TheFallGuy: EstablishingSeriesMoment: While Jack's initial introduction doesn't exactly paint a pretty picture of his life as the police chief of Freeburg, the moment that really sets [[CrapsackWorld the tone of the game]] is when the mayor demands you fire all of your black cops to appease the local racists.
