As a FallingBlocks game, Monster Slider presents the player with a field and blocks in six colors: red, yellow, green, purple, blue, and cyan. Three of any given color need to be touching to be eliminated from the field. The signature gameplay feature that Monster Slider brings in is that the bottom of the field is tilted. The player can change the direction of the tilt as they please and this will cause the blocks to slide towards the new lowest point. Timely tilts can be very useful in creating chain eliminations. Eliminations are good for keeeping one's field empty, scoring points, and thwarting the opponent. Every time an elimination occurs, a candle is generated. Candles can be spent to summon skulls from the opponent's field's ceiling. Skulls are blocks that do fall down, but are not affected by the tilt of the field. They can only be eliminated by being next to color blocks that get eliminated. A row of skulls will just keep sitting there. It's game over when the blocks and skulls fill up the field.
The protagonist Nina is the character one traverses story mode with, but in two-player mode and endless mode, eleven of the twelve antagonists are also selectable. Each of them has a unique special ability that can only be activated by eliminating a rapidly color-changing special block. Doing so generates a crystal and much like candles, crystals can be spent as the user deems it strategically sound. One crystal pays for one usage of the character's special ability. As an example, Nina's Holy Prayer plants a holy cross in her opponent's field. A holy cross can never be made to move from where it is planted and like a skull can only be eliminated when color blocks adjacent to it are eliminated. The only character not ever available to the player is Claudia, whose Bloody Lawn causes roses to sprout in the opponent's fields, which raise the floor or lower the ceiling and thus make it harder to keep the field from filling up.

In regards to the story, it begins when Dracula wakes from his slumber in his castle and abducts Claudia, a beautiful woman from a nearby village. The villagers try to save her, but are driven back by Dracula's monstrous servants. Claudia's younger sister, however, is gifted a holy cross and with this edge sets out to save Claudia herself. Nina battles her way from the cemetery to a waterway that leads into a cave system underneath Dracula's castle, then up into the castle and further up into the clocktower until she reaches Dracula's hideout. Against expectations, his defeat doesn't quite reunite Nina with Claudia, as Claudia and Dracula are in love and by now married. Claudia is furious and demands retribution by means of combat. Nina defeats her and gets the full story, being both exasperated at Claudia's behavior and just a teensy jealous about her solid marriage.

Monster Slider (モンスタースライダー) is a horror-themed Puzzle Combat Game by DATT Japan for the UsefulNotes/SegaSaturn. It was released on March 28, 1997 in Japan only and with that is the first of a series of two games both titled Monster Slider. The other was released later in 1997 for the arcade and represents an AlternateContinuity.
As a FallingBlocks type game, Monster Slider presents the player with a field and blocks in six colors: red, yellow, green, purple, blue, and cyan. Three of any given color need to be touching to be eliminated from the field. The signature gameplay feature that Monster Slider brings in is that the bottom of the field is tilted. The player can change the direction of the tilt as they please and this will cause the blocks to slide towards the new lowest point. Timely tilts can be very useful in creating chain reactions, which don't only score points but also cause multiple skulls to come down in the opponent's field. Skulls are blocks that do fall down, but are not affected by the tilt of the field. They can only be eliminated by touching other blocks that get eliminated. A row of skulls will just keep sitting there. It's game over when the blocks and skulls fill up the field.
In story mode, only Nina is available to play with, but in two-player mode and endless mode, twelve of the thirteen characters are available. Each of them has a unique special ability they can activate by spending a gemstone generate by eliminating a rapidly color-changing special block. For instance, in Nina's case, her Holy Prayer raises a holy cross in her opponent's field. A holy cross is like a skull, but worse because it will not fall down the field no matter how empty the column beneath it is.
* OneeSama: Nina refers to Claudia as "onee-sama" and she herself is the polite young girl archetype. This sets up the expectation that Claudia is even more ladylike. * Verbal:
** The wolfman ends all his sentences with "wan", the Japanese equivalent of "woof". Extra comedy is derived from the fact that the tic occurs while he tries to convince Nina that his indeed the wolfman and not the dogman.
** The golem is a bodybuilder with a habit of randomly saying "chuus" ("チュース"), a derivation of the greeting "ちゅーっす" with a sprinkling of the German bye "tschüß". The informal greeting has both athletic and masculine connotations and was popularized a few years before 1997 by the manga Manga/SlamDunk. Additionally, nearly every other thing the golem says ends on "-ssu", which creates informal politeness again with athletic and masculine connotations.

"Saifu" means "wallet", so in context the term can be thought of as "walleteer". She goes on to explain how she's enjoying a pretty nifty lifestyle in exchange for obeying an order here and there, essentially giving the definition of a henchman but focusing more on what she gets out of it than what she is made to do for her pay.
%%* Dracula:
* FishPeople: One of Dracula's henchmen is a gillman, who is obnoxious and mostly speaks English. Along with the witch, he guards the waterway leading into the cave system beneath Dracula's castle. His special move is Tidal Wave, which by means of water temporarily raises the floor of his opponent's field.
* Golem: One of Dracula's henchmen is a spiky golem, who along with the yeti guards the cave system underneath Dracula's castle. One of Dracula's henchmen is a yeti, who along with the golem guards the cave system underneath Dracula's castle.
* GorgeousGorgon: Medusa is a beautiful woman in fine clothes who just happens to have a couple of snakes growing amidst her luscious blue hair.
* GrimReaper: The skeleton is only identified as such, but he, taking a cue from Franchise/Castlevania, may be more of a grim reaper. He is dressed in a short cloak, carries a scythe, and still has eyes that glow when he instigates a chain reaction.
%%* TheHyena:
* IgnoredEnamoredUnderling: Medusa was and is in love with Dracula and hurt that he went and married Claudia. As such, she readily tells Nina where in the castle she can find Dracula. She would not have fought the girl either would she not have called her old.
* IntelligibleUnintelligible: The yeti only produces grunts, yet Nina can communicate with him without trouble.
* InvoluntaryDance: The skeleton's special ability is Skeleton Dance, which forces his opponent's field to tilt back and forth until its effect ceases.
%%* LightningReveal:
* MinidressOfPower: Claudia wears barely anything: a strapless top that doesn't even go as low as her ribs matched with a ridiculously short wrap skirt. Yet she is the most powerful resident of Dracula's castle and only gets beaten by her younger sister because of the holy cross she wields.
%%* MoodWhiplash:
* NoNameGiven: Other than Nina, Claudia, and Dracula, no names are used within the game. Medusa is technically not named, but her stage is named Medusa. The skeleton, wolfman, gillman, witch, golem, yeti, ghost knight, franken(stein), and pharaoh are unnamed.
* OneeSama: Nina refers to Claudia as "onee-sama" and she herself is the polite young girl archetype. This sets up the expectation that Claudia is even more ladylike. This isn't the case: Claudia is selfish, somewhat uncouth in her presentation, and violent. It is quite a shock for Nina after all she did to save her.
%%* PerkyFemaleMinion:
* RepeatingSoTheAudienceCanHear: Nina's conversation with the yeti has her repeat everything else because how else is the audience going to know he's miffed because he got lost while trying to set up an ambush for her?
%%* SecretUndergroundPassage:
* SomethingAboutARose: Claudia's special move is Bloody Lawn, which causes roses to sprout in her opponent's field. Each rose causes the floor to raise a certain height or the ceiling to come down. The effect is only undone by the roses being eliminated by lining up three blocks of the same color right next to them.
* Verbal:
